In 1970, a vibrant Mississippi weekly, The Ford County Times, faced bankruptcy. Unexpectedly, a 23-year-old college dropout, Willie Traynor, took ownership, much to the shock and dismay of many. The paper's prospects seemed bleak until a young mother's brutal rape and murder by a Padgitt family member. Willie Traynor detailed the grim story, and his newspaper began to flourish.
