LUX and the New TECH #6

LUX-6: Contact: Lux and the New Tech

Rate this book
Lux keeps inventing things or adapting the alien tech (ancient tech to the aliens) because the active alien civilizations they discover through portals and probes have gone through cycles of war, decline and rebirth several times. Lux further develops the portals using discovered alien tech. Earth empties refugee camps the UN was running (1,200,000) and send them with a military escort for their 'safety'. The military sends many ships for escort duty with orders to take over the colony and use the refugees as a labor force. Prissy commands the defense force and they redirect the refugees to modern housing built rapidly with recovered alien technology.

Other alien groups are contacted and mixed groups of alien refugees from a war zone are brought back to Green. Alien medical technology was discovered that allows extension of the human lifespan threefold. Tourists are brought to Green in great numbers to discourage attacks from greedy Earth nations. A demonstration soccer tournament brings in fans and a large number of spies trying to tap into the alien technology. An alien race of Allung (slavers) arrives at Earth and Green. More technology is developed but each new development adds new complexity to the situation.

The situation gets more complicated until...

To faaaaaarrrrrr

First, I have to tell everyone I’m an avid reader of this series. I read the first book and couldn’t stop reading until I finished this book. I do enjoy stories of this variety and I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series, but I do have an issue with this book. It is a big issue too. When I reviewed the last book, I said it had gone a bit too far. Some things that were done some things that were said were just a bit too much. It’s not that the story wasn’t good. It’s not that the scientific concepts violated any rules it’s that some of the things the characters did didn’t make sense. Simple things like going into a room full of soldiers first rather than sending in the drone to fight. That was OK in the last book because it was few and far between but this book no there were far too many times when I was able to stop and say that makes no sense. Not that the story was bad it’s that the actions taken by some of the people who are the brightest in the story made no sense for someone with this much intelligence. I can understand in the first book having to read about people who didn’t understand how bright our MC is I can understand reading it in the second book or the third book or the fourth book, but by the time we get to the sixth book I shouldn’t have to read about people still in denial of basic facts. Especially after certain situations in this book, the author literally said people still don’t believe this happened and I said how could they think anything else? It makes no sense and it has to be called out. Also, the idea that these groups keep continuing to try and attack them groups from earth who should’ve gotten the hint by now that’s ridiculous. It makes no sense now. Even at the end of this story, we’re being told the same tale again, and it makes no sense that someone from earth is trying to attack again, no that’s not a spoiler that’s an afterthought of the main story. It just makes no sense. I honestly would’ve given the book 3.0 stars, but I didn’t want to hurt the author and their reputation for the good series overall.

Message To The Author:

OK now this is a spoiler loaded message to the author. I often write these for books. I really like to let the author know how I felt about certain plot points and some issues I might have with the story. Sadly, I have some issues with this story. I think we see actions taken by the MC which makes no sense. Too often a man of science does something that an idiot would do without experimentation and verification of safety. Who jumps into a new dimension without making sure it’s a dimension they can survive in. It literally could function on a totally different Dynamic physics that makes no sense to have that happen. Again it’s a story sci-fi so I’m OK with it, but it makes no sense. At the end the general that still wants to fight and take over and all of that that’s a played out plot point. It needs to end. In fact, this whole idea of earth thinking they can defeat him please no more. It’s played out. There are other plot points that need to be explored. Tell me about the other alien races, in fact, I have to question why weren’t we told specifically what all of these races look like. It took so long to get details of some of these species. I do hope there’s more in the series because I think there’s a lot that could be explored but I think it continue to touch on old plot points too much. How could people from earth who were attacked by aliens not now believes aliens existed that just didn’t make any sense. That’s exactly what was written in the epilogue. You can’t literally see the McDonald’s down the street get blown up and spaceships land on the planet and round people up and then suddenly have everyone say that didn’t happen that makes no sense. I love the series but some Cleanup work needs to be done.

I have enjoyed this series immensely.

I wonder if this is the final book to the series. It doest say that in the description, like most authors would do but the wording in the book definitely seems like it’s implying that and there’s an outtake from a new series that’s supposed to be a spin-off from this one—great, great grandson of Lux, along with Anna, who’s bored with the aging Lux, and they want to head out and find new aliens and have their ow adventures. When I looked at it, the book “Outlier” was released in I think January 2022. It was supposed to be a series but there is only one book. So I don’t think I’ll read that unless there will be more to follow and in a timely manner.
I enjoy Mr Pence style of writing. He’s very creative and certainly good at creating a world in which to place his characters. The characters are a joy and have come a long way from Lux’s basement bedroom/game room where Anna came to be sentient and a true friend to Lux and Prissy. She really is the reason the characters have been able to do so much and save worlds and species throughout space. She’s pretty incredible.
At the end of the book, Mr Pence self evaluates, and in his own words, acknowledges his editing errors but asks us to not let those stop us from writing a review. I try very hard to leave reviews because the authors appreciate them and I think it helps in some algorithm onAmazon (that’s a guess. Thinking it might be like TikTok or something lol) Plus, as a consumer, I appreciate reviews that people make to give us an unbiased opinion. Anyway, I appreciate his writing and storytelling despite those errors and his wonky sentences that show up sometimes. Be forewarned, there are quite a few editing sna-foo’s but again, it’s worth the read.
I would suggest to the author that he find some trusted readers who could act as AR (Advanced Readers) or BR’s (Beta Readers). Good bR’s will catch those misspelled, duplicate or missing words and some will be able to catch the wonky sentences and help you to fix them. Giving them access chapter by chapter is a better choice if you’re one of those writers that is writing clear up to the release date. This way, at least most of the book would have been somewhat edited with corrections before release. If you found a person really good at spotting those Salk errors but also really good at enhancing your sentences, then bring them in as an AR and they can help you from the beginning. You just have to be sure to give the time to do their magic too. It can be a great experience for both people.
In a situation like this, where the book is already released then I usually still do edits while I’m reading a book, (I can’t help it!😉) sending corrections, options through the kindle Notes section that will email them to the writer. My kindle is broken, thus I’m using my iPhone which the kindle app does not allow access to that portion for some reason. So I simply placed my comments in the highlighted Notes section of the book. I’m guessing the author has access to those so I’m hoping they will help with some options, if he wants them. Then he can delete those notes. If not, I could probably send them to an email.
Just an offer.
I’m hoping our storyline is not an end but it feels like it is.

Not bad ender. I've seen a lot worse and thankfully it did end

I enjoyed this series in this book was good.2⁄3 of it was about normal but near the end it accelerated To the series end. All the books in this genre of suffer the same fate the tech gets so high and Empire gets so big that it's pretty Tough to write about and it's not nearly as exciting anymore In the series and move to another one. That said at the end of the book the author does make introductions for the next series. So we'll see how that goes.

Enjoyed it to the end

The story ends with this book, but does tail off to a new series the author is writing with a descendant of Lux. I felt the ending of the series was a bit rushed, and the giant space battles were done with fairly quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series, and will start the next by this author which moves from a technical Sci-Fi character moving to a world with magic. Should be interesting. Glad I read this series first as I was about to read the other series when I found these books were older.

Much improved

My review of the last book was "terrible." This one is still in desperate need of a good editor, and still has two books worth of (underdeveloped) plot, but by every other metric is considerably better. Writing is more consistent, plot and characters still excellent - but the author needs to expound on almost every plot jump! One of the few series I've read that would be better if it was twice as many books.

Still a great series

The plot ran a bit fast for me and the author now tends to tell more than show, but I still very much enjoyed this novel.

I still think he needs a better proofreader but I'm actually starting to get used to his grammar chaos and wrong word speed bumps. /grin

Great Series

While MC is rather OP, the series is highly entertaining and flies by quickly. My only gripe through it all happened in this book where San Franchisor and the Valley were saved from the KEWs. Really? Save California?? Otherwise, a really entertaining series.

Great scifi/adventure series for teens-adults

Love the story. Includes my favorite idea 'if you don't know it's impossible then anything is possible.' Looking forward to reading more from this author.

excellent series

This story of a young man who pioneered space to earth was fantastic. It still bothers me that the government will demonize inventors and kill them instead of working with them. Unfortunately I think they do that all the time. I wonder how many golden geese die…

Great Conclusion

Pence has written a fun and even exciting conclusion to the Lux series. All these people have developed wonderfully with consistent character. He brings great helpful annotations that bring old information back to my tired mind. Well done!

What's going on? Am I reading the Trade World Saga? Oh no Lux is in this book, but the alien races are all the same and the teaching cilidors are also back. But the time line of Lux Vs Trade World is not lineing up anyway you look at it. It's just a bit too much the same thing, unless it's aiming to become alternate reality/multiverse.

I quite enjoyed the story, but it does not bear close examination, the implications of the learning machines and rejuvenation treatment are incredibly far reaching, I think the author has just got carried away and not fully thought through where the story was going.
This was confirmed as the story turned into Comic Book Science Fiction, in fact towards the end I got the impression he was just rushing to get it done so he could move on to his next venture.
