Some turns in our lives feel so nostalgic. Many memories are attached to such places. The cover makes me feel similarly.

Deodar Ke Phool is a beautiful collection of poems. This anthology has myriad poems followed by lovely black and white pictures. All of these convey similar vibes, mostly painting the sketch of a heart that has been broken by the ups and downs of life. I feel it makes this book appropriate to be read at times when you are thinking of spending some time with yourself, ready to once more feel those nostalgic vibes of days gone by, perhaps on a rainy, dark afternoon while you sip your hot tea beside the window.

All of these pieces touch on deeper aspects of our lives and thus portray the hues of our emotions in similar situations. The poems are non-rhyming, short, and have a modern poetic style.

Do check out this book if you are into poems and enjoy immersing yourself in them often.

Books are supposed to open thought windows, but are also meant to be relaxing at the same time. And this why I have never been a fan of abstract poetries. They are way too open to interpretation and just make my mind run faster, without churning out anything solid.

If you are a novice in poetry, like me, then you need to check out ‘Deodar ke phool’.

Based on a myriad of themes, the poems are written in very simple and sweet language. They won’t pressurise you into thinking of the philosophical aspect of things, but they will bring back buried memories. They are like the Paper Boat ads

‘Kitabo ki duniya’ will re-kindle your love for books.
‘Jo na ho mere saath’ will mend your broken heart.
‘Maa baba’ will make you conscious of how you’ve grown up and apart during these years.
‘Nigaho mein jinki hum’ will put the words of a broken heart on paper.

When Asha offered me her book, my first feeling was skepticism.

And then this tiny little book arrived at my doorstep a few days later and I decided to give it a go with no expectations whatsoever.

As my previous ventures of reading in Hindi have been a failure, the thought of facing it again to be honest was intimidating. However, as soon as I read the first poem, the feeling of nostalgia hit me. As if I was back again to my high school days reading Hindi poems during the recess.
What a delight it is to come out of your fear and engulf yourself in that feeling of comfort.

Since 2020, my affinity for reading Hindi literature, particularly modern Hindi poetry, has grown exponentially. During this journey, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the captivating collection of poems penned by Asha Seth, titled "Deodar Ke Phool." Just as Shri Ramdhari Singh (Dinkar) beautifully stated "Kavita Shabd nahi, shanti hain; kolahal nahi, moun hai," poetry signifies inner peace amidst the battle of thoughts within the mind, where every thought aims like a weapon and the heart becomes a shield; "Deodar Ke Phool" by Asha Seth is an enchanting compilation of Hindi poems that leaves readers spellbound with its heartfelt verses.
