Action hero Nick Kismet returns in a novella length thriller. A chance to unravel the secret that has haunted him from birth leads Kismet to a beautiful reporter with mob connections, a war between criminal forces and a showdown with an evil beyond belief.
Sean Ellis enjoys a lifelong love affair with adventure. He enjoys adventure racing, mountain biking, has competed in several off-road triathlons, and is also a decorated combat veteran who now resides in Arizona.
According to publication dates, this is the first of the series about Nick Kismet, but it didn't seem like it. As I read, there were constant allusions to previous adventures that made me think I had missed something. I plan to read the next book (which is a whole book rather than the novella that this one was) so we'll see if I just read it out of order. This one really felt like one long action sequence, so I'm hoping for a bit more depth and character development in the next one. But despite my criticisms, I am sufficiently interested to keep going with Sean Ellis' books as I think there is a lot more to come. The fact that he has written a book with Jeremy Robinson is a great incentive.
I originally read this book a number of years ago and I remember enjoying it immensely. Having just obtained the paperback release I wanted to read it again and I wasn't disappointed. Nick Kismet receives a mystery summons to a meeting at the Empire State Building, his interest is roused and he attends, little did he know what he was getting himself into. From then on it is non-stop action. Being a novella, it is a quick and easy read. I love Sean Ellis' writing style and now I want to go back and re-read all the Nick Kismet books, I want more. If you like action, with an air of mystery and good storytelling this is the book for you. I'd recommend reading it after The Shroud of Heaven.
As always, Sean Ellis has many twists and turns which keeps you totally and completely intrigued. Love the character of Nick Kismet. He is once again on the hunt for the elusive Prometheus group
My only complaint...... it was a novella.... I didn't want it to end. Sean Ellis never fails to deliver in his books. Rapidly became one of my must read authors.
Read The Devil You Know. You won't be disappointed.
