Gosho Aoyama (青山剛昌) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best known as the creator of the manga series Detective Conan (known in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as Case Closed).
Aoyama made his debut as a manga artist with the work Chotto Matte which was published in the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday on winter of 1987. Shortly after that, another work by Aoyama, Magic Kaito, was published on the same magazine.
Full of reappearances from recurring characters, it’s the use of the familiar and the soon-to-be that bolsters engagement and boosts the world building. With a fantastic ensemble, the new pieces bring a fresh perspective that will further spin the positions of the power players in the future.
*Pinning Osaka as my place to visit in the future* 1. so happy got to see Hieji & Conan team up in this case. 2. the next case was not a murder *BREATHES* was a good one, as always killing someone because of love or jealousy 3. the case about the foreign old man looks like a case we will see again, the guy with the curly tresses and the hat is someone we will see very often. 4. my favorite one in this volume is SATO’S MARRIAGE MEETING!!! which will be continued on volume 33
also this volume had 11 chapters (the other ones used to have 10 only…hmmmm)
Word of warning...do not try to read this story without having read volume 31...and recently. The case jumps right into action and you may feel lost if you don't remember what happened in the last volume! The first full case involves a reunion that ends up being an attempted murder! As per the usual case, the killer is hidden among those who found the body. I will freely admit this was one I had picked the wrong person, but was a fun story that kept me intrigued. The circus returns to Japan and while so much is happening...an elderly man is kidnapped. What is the motive? Will her survive? Can the Junior Detectives crack the case in time? The story ends...but leaves a few things dangling which I believe will be picked up at a later time. The final story of this book involves a love triangle of police officers. Its a fun one where no ones life is in jeopardy and it seems like a fun story. It will be completed in volume 33 so be prepared to be left hanging.
1st case: The case in the castle of Osaka continues. More people are being killed. Heiji and Conan are investigating while Heijis father works on his own plan. Suddenly someone takes Conan and Heiji is all by himself. 2nd case: Kogoro gets invited to a birthday party by Yoko Okino. Suddenly the host is attacked. Conan finds the culprit but it may be too late for the culprit already. 3rd case: The kids meet a nice gentleman who later gets kidnapped. He might not be who everyone expects him to be. 4th casse: Sato accepts a blind date. It is someone she knows. Will Takagi be there on time to confess his feelings?
Well, this was one of my favorite Volumes yet. My least favorite chapter was a 6 (really great) and the rest were 7s and 8s - which is just incredible. This is the introduction of James Black (enough said).
I mostly enjoyed this volume because it was so ridiculous it became funny. If I didn't find it funny I'd have been really disappointed in the first case. I had high expectations because the beginning of the case in the previous volume was so dramatic. The ridiculousness continued with the other cases, and I think it's going to continue with the last case. The whole subplot with how every cop loves Satou being the scaffold for the case is just stupid.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
One of the stories is dedicated to the horizontal plot with the introduction of James Black's character. Shuichi Akai shows up again. Nice case of the idol reunion. The last chapter is dedicated to the love story between Sato and Takaji.
General Synopsis: As mentioned above, I am going to write a proper review for this soon, but I have a few books ahead of this one in the queue, so I cannot stop reading DC NOW! That's sacrilege. I have decided to read all the chapters available up to now (we are almost to 1000!) As you can see, I am totally fangirling over here and I don't care, because this is one of my favorite manga series, ever! But all of this aside, there are a few things I wanted to list so I don't need to go back and look everything up when I do finally sit down and write my fangirl review. ✌🏻
DO NOT click on the spoiler link if you don't want to read all the cases in this volume, because it will ruin it for you. On the other hand, if you're a fan like me or are looking for a certain case (and please note, these are how I have set the cases), etc. click away, that's why it's there.
Another spoiler link, so don't click if you don't want to ruin this manga. I am going to include the characters introduced or as the series continues are in this volume. Personally, I think us DC fans love certain characters more than other (yes, Heiji, I mean you!), so sometimes when we are re-reading this series (like all the time!) you might wish to start at a specific case or start when a certain character is involved.
Characters in this volume:
Personal Opinion: #1, I never call this CASE CLOSED. If you do, you're not a true fan of this series, so don't even bother reading my review or my personal opinions. I'm sorry if I offend you, but you offended me first by telling me you want to read CASE CLOSED or you just love Jimmy.
#2, as you can tell by #1, I read this online. I would never waste my money buying a manga series in english that cannot get the name correct and mess up the main characters to make it appear more "ENGLISH." I am so happy I don't run a blog and this isn't a review on Sailor Moon, #1, because I have a huge soap box tirade against DiC. I also don't think there is anything against reading something online. Comics, which is what manga are, are meant to be read and shared and sometimes paying over $10 is too much in my opinion. Plus, I read the newest chapters as soon as they are released from Japan, because I would never miss a release of DC. So this is my personal shout out to you translators from me, Thank You!
THE OSAKA CASTLE INFERNO: A HUNT FOR HIDDEN TREASURE A thrilling visit to Osaka Castle turns into a nightmare when tour guides become victims of gruesome attacks, set ablaze and left to fall from perilous heights. As Conan and Heiji dig deeper, they uncover a chilling connection between the crimes and a long-lost legendary treasure hidden within the castle’s walls.
THE IDOL'S ENGAGEMENT: A DEADLY ENCORE Kogoro is invited to the engagement party of Kaoru, a rising star and former idol group member, who fears she’s being stalked. When she is brutally attacked during the party, all signs point to an obsessive outsider. However, Conan quickly sees through the staged evidence, realizing the true culprit is among the guests. As Megure’s search for the weapon comes up empty, Conan pieces together a shocking revelation from a hidden listening device and victim’s drawers.
A CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY: THE KIDNAPPING OF JAMES BLACK A simple trip to an animal show takes a dangerous turn when the Detective Boys befriend James Black, a mysterious Englishman mistaken for billionaire Randy Hawk. When James is abducted in a case of mistaken identity, Conan and the Detective Boys follow the trail of clues—including a cryptic bloodstained strap—leading them into a high-stakes race to save him before it's too late.
You can pretty much guess that if a book has Kazuha and Heiji in it, it's often going to be my favorite in the book. I just adore the way the two of them play off one another, and in this book, we not only get them but we get to learn a little more about Heiji's dad, a policeman himself. Conan and Heiji involve themselves in the mystery of a series of mysterious deaths at a historic castle. But Heiji's dad is tryingto get them to leave well enough alone.
I kind of like it when I find myself shouting at a character for doing something dumb while at the same time knowing that it's exactly what the character would do, not some OOCness for the sake of the story.
Overall a bit better than the standard cookie cutter 'Case Closed" cases. Though, as usual, some of the situations surrounding it can dent anybody's suspension of disbelief with it incredulity.
The biggest stinker of this volume for me, was File 8: "What the Lion Dropped". The implausible chain of events, the political messages, and the hint that this is a prelude to a whole new conspiracy (in addition to the primary MIB), had me going crazy.
