Andi hates weddings. So when her best friend Alex tells her she's getting married in Italy, and asks her to be her maid of honour, she knows she's the wrong woman for the job. But Alex won't take no for an answer, and so begins a week-long trip to a beautiful villa in Italy, full of potential disasters that it's Andi's job to avoid. But what if she's the one causing them?
Enter Owen, fellow wedding-hater, Best Man and also the worst person for the job. Tall, sexy and warm, Andi can't help but feel the ice around her heart begin to melt when he's around. But as Andi and Owen grow closer, the disasters begin to multiply, try as they might to keep them at bay. Together, can they put their feelings aside and pull off a successful wedding for those they love most?
Based on the cover and the description I assumed this book would be super cute and light and easy to read, like a lot of other rom-coms I read.
I was wrong.
The main character was too self-centered. She was annoying, very “me” focused but saying how good of a friend she was for still coming to her best friend’s wedding and being maid of honor and all that since she was cheated on during her wedding day- just a collection of things that made me dislike her.
The plot line was so slow it was practically nonexistent. To be honest, I’m not 100% sure what the plot was meant to be. The wedding? But that ended before the 65-70% mark. The romance maybe? But the romance was also nonexistent, because the characters didn’t seem to have a connection or chemistry or anything at all.
It was just way too slow and boring for me. I was looking forward to reading it but even the writing style didn’t mesh with me; I thought it was flat and hard to read.
Thank you to Lucy Knott and Aria & Aries for the arc. As soon as I saw the cover of the book it reeled me in and I thought it was going to be really cute. It was a quick & light read. Though, I hated the protagonist. She was super annoying and there was no real chemistry built between the characters. The book fell a bit flat for me, but Owen’s character and descriptions of Italy kept me going.

My favorite part of this book had to be how wonderfully the author described the settings of Italy and all of the food. They made me really crave some of that delicious food and want to be in Italy so bad!
The MCs worked well together. I would say the fmc could have been more supportive of her best friend's wedding and not make it about her at some parts but ultimately she learnt and grew from those mistakes and was apologetic.
Ergo we love to see growth ya'll and it's nice having flawed characters but if we picking between them I'd say mmc, Owen owned it more (see what i did there?😂) The way he stood by her + supported her was cute! I feel like they did need to connect deeper tho esp as a couple.
Side characters were also fun to read about and have in the book. I liked bestfriend,Alex she was a real one. Charlie and Alex (lgbtq+ rep) were sweet & they had a wonderful wedding that brought their maid of honour and best man together.
It was cool having mmcs that had an aversion to love after a past and seeing them come together and have a change of heart.
Overall, an average read with some cute moments that tied it all together.
On her wedding day, Andi catches her fiancée, Hannah, cheating on her with the maid of honour. She already did not have a positive view on marriage; however, this just solidified her stance. So, when her best friend Alex tells her she's getting married in Italy and asks her to be the maid of honour, she is not fully on board but agrees. Alex's fiancée, Charlie has convinced her best friend Owen to be her best man. In a fun little twist, he shares Andi's opinions on weddings and relationships!
Now, I'm not going to sugar coat this review... and I've been avoiding writing it because I hate how disappointed it has made me.
I understand the main character has some character development later on in the book. But she is the most annoying character I have ever had the displeasure of reading. I understand having a lot of trauma when your fiancée cheats on you on your wedding day. However, when your best friend is getting married, you don’t push your negative energy onto them. You support them. It shouldn’t be difficult.
I found it hard to look past how unlikeable Andi is which made the book difficult to like overall. I truly truly wish I could have liked this book more. It had a lot of potential.
NOW! If the plot was that her best friend was acting the way Andi was towards her, it would have been more tolerable since the main character wouldn't have been the insufferable one.

This was a cute closed-door Rom-Com starring 2 jaded, anti-love characters who have been burned in the past. Forced Proximity, strangers to friends to lovers, found family, grumpy/grumpy-sunshine.
Andi is pretty grumpy/grumpy in all aspects except Owen who is kinda grumpy/sunshine. They fit well together, but it wasn't really explained. It seemed pretty Instalove/lust that brought them together besides them finding solace in the other's also anti-love/wedding points of view.
I was in love with Owen from the beginning. He's a sweet, lovely, caring, man who is the perfect best friend to Charlie. Lucy didn't really go into his past much so all the cryptic phone calls with his brother (who we never meet) about his past and such never really get answered. We don't really know what happened in his past relationships that turned him so cynical (besides the one he briefly mentions).
Andi I found to be irritating and selfish and unrelatable. I get she's stressed with real life and turned off by love and weddings having attempted one of her own that would traumatize anyone, but people are normally pretty good at being happy for their friends even if their friends are getting married. Like she adores Alex and Charlie, but cannot seem to keep making everything about herself.
The novel was more a love story with Italy (and I was okay with that). There was more descriptions of the food being eaten (and they were always eating) than the characters or their interpersonal connections or character growth. I feel like if the effort put in to describing Italy and the food was put into the characters, this book would've been off the charts.
Thank you NetGalley, Aria & Aries, and Aria for providing this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
After Andi catches her fiancee Hannah cheating with the maid of honour on their wedding day, her already tainted view of love is shattered. So, when best friend Alex announces her week long wedding celebrations in Italy, Andi is not on board. Lucky for her, the best man Owen also hates weddings! What could possibly go wrong?
What a fresh take on rom-com! This book goes to show you don’t always need the smut when you can have an epic romance. Lucy creates such colourful descriptions. from the warmth of the Amalfi Coast, the yellowest of lemons & the mouth watering food… I felt like I was dreaming of Italy at one point.
At times, it was a bit slow hence the 4 stars & closer to the end, I felt there was a rush to cram in details to back up Andi’s future work plans that could possibly have been introduced earlier but overall, this was a lovely, heart warming story.
Perfect to take on holiday, a book full of humour, chaos and celebration.
Thanks to Aria & Aries and NetGalley for the ARC! Well done Lucy Knott!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of “The (Anti) Wedding Party” in exchange for an honest review. I hate writing lukewarm reviews but this was not the book for me. The protagonist, Andi, was really hard to get behind. She was so self-centered that it was hard to root for her romantic success. I also didn’t really feel connected to the couple as there wasn’t really any bonding/connecting that happened. It just felt unfulfilled.
this is painful to get through. on top of the plot just being soooooooo slow, andi as a main character was so unlikeable. i was not rooting for her at all and contemplating dnf’ing this many times. the premise had so much potential but overall just fell super flat.
thank you netgalley & aria for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

My Opinion
Andi has always had doubts about marriage, can she put them behind her to be the maid of honour at Alex's wedding? This was a sweet read and I read over 280 pages of this in one sitting, The best man Owen is also against weddings - what can possibly go wrong? This is going to make for a great holiday read, or with the descriptions of the Amalfi Coast it will make you think that are on holiday.
If you are looking for an easy, light-hearted read then look no further.

Andi is 34, living in Manchester, running a chippy with her mother, and is very cynical about love. Years ago she was about to be married when her fiancé was caught cheating on her moments before they were due to walk down the aisle. Ever since she has been anti wedding, but with her best friend getting engaged and asking her to be maid of honour at her week long festivities in the Amalfi coast of Italy. She tries to be on her best behavior but her anti wedding attitude causes more than one situation.
Enter Owen, best man and as with Andi, is very anti love and anti wedding. Over the week they both find a lot of common ground as they carry out their responsibilities, and the chemistry between them may change both their outlooks on love.
This was a really cute idea for a story, and the amount of food and italian culture had me wishing to be with the characters in the story. Unfortunately i could not get over my annoyance of Andi. She was truly insufferable for 50% of the book, and there was no saving my enjoyment past that point. She felt like such a buzz kill for so long, and I understand being scorned by love, and being hesitant to trust again, but she was so self-obsessed, and I could not get behind how bad of a friend she was for the majority of the novel.
The (Anti) Wedding Party by Lucy Knott is a great contemporary romance novel that takes you on a journey of love, self-discovery, and friendship.
I enjoyed Andi and Owen's banter and single's crusade of being *anti* wedding. I especially enjoyed Andi's relationship with her mother and Knott's beautiful description of the Italian countryside. I really enjoyed this one. It was the perfect read to get out of a reading rut. While Andi was an unlikeable character for the most part it didn't take away from the story.
With a witty dialogue and cute storyline, this book is a great choice for a light-hearted and enjoyable read.
Thank you to netgalley and the Aria & Aries team for an eARC in exchange for an honest reivew.
This is a great contemporary romance novel about love, self-discovery, and friendship.
Andrea and Owen's banter is the best thing in this book. They are so fun while trashing everything during their best friends' wedding. Both Andre and Owen had bad experiences while in a relatioship, so they have sworn off everything that's connected to love and marriages.
Andrea was not one hundred percent on board with being her best friend's maid of honor, with everything that the title entails, but she tried her best to help her friends, even ewhen things did not turn out the best.
And maybe I'm a bit biased being Italian, but the way Lucy describes Italy and the Italian food is perfect!
Thank you to netgalley and the Aria & Aries team for an ARC for an honest reivew.
This story had potential but was unfortunately very mediocre. I found myself struggling my way through this book because it was just boring. I’m really sorry to say it, but that’s the truth. Owen was very cute and wholesome as the love interest, but everything else about this story was just meh. I read and watch a lot of romance and this is nothing I haven’t seen or read a 100 times before. It tries to be funny with the references to Hallmark movies and romcoms, but that’s exactly what this was, a Hallmark kinda story with the quality you can expect from that 🤷🏻♀️
⭐️⭐️.5
Was there chemistry? 🦋🦋.5

This was such a difficult read, not because of its storyline but because of the main character. I think this is the first time ever I hate a main character in romance book. The main character is unsufferable, annoying and has a lot of negativity. I get that she have trauma due to her ruined wedding but it did not excuse her horrible actions toward her best friend who is so excited and happy to get married. The least thing she could do is to be happy for her friend. I just don't care about the romance anymore when I'm so annoyed by her character.
One thing I genuinely enjoy is the wedding location. It's perfectly described and atmospheric.
Andi hates weddings but is still serving as her best freind's maid of honor. Her only saving grace? The equally wedding hater best man, Owen.
This was a cute romcom. I loved the setting and all of the details of the Italian wedding and setting. You were really transported there. Most of the characters were great and I did root for Andi and Owen to find their relationship as it developed. I was also a big fan of the friendships in this book. They were all really there for each other. I did find Andi a bit trying and hard to connect to.
All in all, this was a cute wedding romcom!
Thank you to the publisher and author for the gifted copy!
not going to give it a rating bc this was a DNF but god i did not like the main character at all (which is a major reason why I couldn’t continue this). I enjoyed a fair share of books w unlikeable main characters but the mc here was just a different kind of unlikeable - acting childish and upset over your best friends’ (who were the ones helping and supporting you during yours and who helped you deal with the aftermath, who even then were holding back their excitement for your sake) wedding because of your experience w yours is just… not it.
The cover and blurb of this book grabbed my attention and I thought I was in for a fun light rom-com. However what we got was a FMC who was so unlikable that I couldn't push my thoughts aside to finish this book.
Unfortunately, this is a DNF for me after 3 attempts to pick it up and keep trying.

This book was super cute and fun and uplifting. I love our heroine's journey to find herself and her relationship with her mom even when they had some differences. The hero was sweet, and I like how their romance developed. I had some issues with the bi-rep, but I'm not going to focus on that. Overall, this was a fun read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly a very cute and romantic read! Loved the depictions of Italy and the love interest Owen as soooo endearing. Andi was a tad bit annoying because she constantly let her insecurities get the best of her (which once or twice I get, but like when you're 80% into the book and it keeps happening you kind of just 🙃).
Overall, would definetely read again in the future, especially if I ever find msyelf in Italy. (Also good bi representation).
Thank you NetGalley and Aria & Aries for giving me an arc in exchange for an honest review!
This book had such a fun cover and exciting premise (wedding haters, Italy, wedding preps, friendships!) but I found the main character Andi extremely annoying. - Fictional characters can be unlikeable of course but I didn't really root for Andi at all - There was hardly any chemistry between the leads - I am not sure if I felt how much the main leads hated the wedding. Perhaps Andi being annoying masked that.
3.5 stars rounded up because spiky females usually get marked down.
After Andi catches her fiance Hannah cheating on their wedding day, her already cynical attitude towards love is cemented. This is a problem when her best friend Alex announces her wedding celebrations in Italy. Luckily for Andi, her views are shared by best man Owen.
This book, however, is really Andi's slow growth to opening herself up. At 34, she's only ever worked with her mother in the now-failing family family fish and chip shop. At times she's a poor best friend to Alex with her attitude, or, when she feels Owen getting through her guard, a bit of a porcupine. Luckily she got a few home truths served by other characters! Some might find her off-putting (and she certainly tested my patience with her especially near the end), but I find my favourite sort of characters are the ones who are spiky because they have to undertake a real growth to make changes and own up to their mistakes.
At times, I think the pace got a bit too slow, and I'd liked to have seen Andi's growth start to emerge a bit earlier on (especially her work plans). And while there's a fantastic spark between the two cynics as they find themselves as they spend the week in the Italian sunshine participating in wedding festivities, I would've liked more on how Owen's feelings changed, given how often Andi pushed him away. Owen was equally if not more cynical than Andi, but totally supportive and sweet so it just didn't quite become clear why Andi made him re-evaluate his stance.
With its vivid descriptions of Italian life, from the food, the Amalfi coast and the heavenly-sounding villa, I was ready to pack my bag and book a plane ticket to head there myself. All in all this book is a fabulous summer beach read with the fun and banter that I really appreciate.
This book drug on for no apparent reason. Could have been shorter. The wedding was in the middle of the book, and it was pretty good up until that point, but after words, I skipped parts. I really hated Andrea. Her poor me pity party and continuously hurting everyone else thru the whole book got old.
