For fans of Disney princesses and Sailor Moon–style girl power, Cursed Princess Club is a lighthearted story of a young royal who finds her place in a world obsessed with princes, beauty, and happily-ever-afters.
Just because you’re cursed doesn’t mean you’re not special.
Gwendolyn, the youngest of the king’s three daughters, is living proof that princesses don’t always have it all. She isn’t like the other princesses in the Pastel Kingdom. In spite of her big heart and love of baking, Gwendolyn isn’t particularly attractive. Unlike her sisters who have woodland creatures do their hair and makeup, or have flowers blossom wherever they sleep, Gwendolyn is a bit . . . different.
When her father proposes marriage for her and her sisters to make an alliance with the Plaid Kingdom, it breaks Gwendolyn’s heart to hear that Prince Frederick thinks she’s “really ugly.” Overwhelmed and ashamed, she runs away to the forest and encounters the twisted world of the Cursed Princess Club, where her life will never be the same.
In this fourth book of the series, Gwen plans a dinner party with Frederick’s help; Frederick spends an afternoon with the Cursed Princesses (without realizing it); and we learn about Prince Whitney . . . all the while Nell’s premonition hangs over their heads. The question remains. . . if Nell really is clairvoyant, then who will end up dead?
This volume collects episodes 78-93 of the hit WEBTOON series. A special epilogue features a day with Prince Jamie.
LambCat is a small, omnivorous, and easily frightened creature who has burrowed deep into the Pacific Northwest to draw comics and make music. They can be lured out by Bill Evans records and frosted animal crackers.
In a Nutshell: By far, among the best graphic novels (series) I have read. An astounding combination of plot, characters, social issues, and art. This review is for the ENTIRE fourth season and not specifically for this graphic novel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOTE: I'm reading this book on the WEBTOON app, but as Goodreads doesn't have that option, I'll be updating my progress against the graphic novel entries. The first two graphic novels corresponded with the first two seasons of the webcomic. However, from the third book onwards, the paths diverge. This unreleased fourth volume of the graphic novel series is based on episodes 78 to 93 of the webcomic, which means season three (which ends with episode 106) is still going on the physical books. My review, however, is for the entire fourth and final season, so it will go far beyond the content of this graphic novel.
The plot continues from the events of the third season, and should NOT be read as a standalone work. No plot preview, as I don’t want to go into spoilers.
All feedback from the first three books is applicable for this one as well. I have already spoken about the characters and the themes in my earlier reviews. As this is the final season, I shall focus on the overall plot development and execution.
First off, anyone who thinks that this is a straightforward story with a linear plot and suitable only for young girls is SO wrong! There are various subtracks in the storyline, partly connected to the characters and partly connected to the group they belong to. So the basic plot demarcation is the Pastel Kingdom, the Plaid Kingdom, and the Cursed Princess Club. Then you have the character-oriented subplots, such as the “princels” (note the word play with 'incels') who love to hate not just women but also Blaine and all he stands for, elder children such as Blaine and Calpernia who are stressed out by the role they need to play as future rulers, or even shy Gwen who is so comfortable in her own skin until someone calls her ‘ugly” and destroys her self-image, literally. The story arcs span romance, humour, satire, fairy tale, mystery, dark fantasy, coming of age, and in the finale, even a thriller.
This was the longest season, not just in terms of number of episodes but also wrt the length of each episode. The start of the season is a bit complicated as there is so much going on. Keeping track of everything is tricky, though the author does help with many clues and reminders of past incidents. I was a bit afraid that my rating for this would drop a little as the detailing was going at a slower pace. But once the events from all the arcs began to come together, it was mind-blowing!
What a nail-biting finish this was! I laughed, I cried, I yelled at the characters, and I rooted for (some of) them with all my heart! It was an amazing ending that ties every single thread of the plot neatly without going into clichés or OTT rainbow finales. There’s no cliffhanger, and no forced coupling.
I think the story ended at a good place, and there is no need of (or a hint of) any sequel or extension. But it should be apparent that if any new CPC story does come out, I will definitely read it.
I have praised the book enough through these reviews. As this is the final review of my CPC experience, I want to shower praises on the author:
🙌 For handling art and story and music for such an extended story so capably.
🙌 For providing cute little content warnings where necessary, such as for depiction of terminal illness or depression or graphic violence or even spiders.
🙌 For keeping such a complicated storyline together without faltering.
🙌 For redefining what “princess” and “witch” and “cursed” can stand for.
🙌 For highlighting the poison that comes from bearing grudges and the freedom that comes from trust.
🙌 For the creativity of her pop culture references.
🙌 For all the smashing of negative social attitudes and cliched beauty standards.
🙌 For showing that some things cannot be and must not be forgiven.
🙌 For showing that there’s no shame in asking for help.
🙌 For not forcing romantic arcs where they aren't needed.
🙌 For so many memorable characters, including Laverne the llama. 👑🦙
🙌 For proving how a 'Happily Ever After' could mean so many things.
🙌 For making me feel teenage enthusiasm once again.
🙌 For penning a fairy tale beside which all other fairy tales pale.
🙌 For doing complete justice to its genre and performing well beyond its target audience.
🙌 For proving how indie doesn't mean low quality.
🙌 For giving me a wonderful chance to bond with my daughter.
Thank you, Lambcat! And best wishes in getting all the graphic novels released soon. It must be a mammoth task to convert a vertical scroll story into a comic book layout.
5 stars without hesitation.
My thanks to the WEBTOON app for this free access to the story!
PHYSICAL GRAPHIC NOVELS: Volume 1: Complete Season 1, Episodes 1 to 29. Volume 2: Complete Season 2, Episodes 30 to 61. Volume 3: Season 3, Episodes 62 to 77. Volume 4: Season 3, Episodes 78 to 93. Volume 5 (To be released in November 2025): Season 3-4, Episodes 94 to 110.
The author has mentioned on her Instagram account that it might take 10 or 11 physical books to complete the whole webcomic. So I've effectively read at least 10 full-length graphic novels within 4 days! 😱
One feature that some WEBTOON readers might enjoy is that all the seasons come with their own background music, which matches the mood of the panels you are on. This is a novel feature. While I admire the effort this must have taken, I confess that I kept the music muted after the first few episodes; my mind can’t handle music and reading together. But I must give credit to the author for this. She handled the art and the story and the music – wow!
If there was a way to rate it above 5, I would! This journey started as a discovery towards self love but in this season, it became much more.
This didn't remain a story just about Gwen. We learn more about her sisters, the different club members and the parents. Suffice it to say, I'm not shocked at finding out who the villain of the series was. Despite learning about his villain arc, I hold no sympathy. He set on his path deliberately and cared for nobody.
Is there anybody cuter than Laverne, the llama?!! She is an absolute icon deserving of all the pampering.
I don't think I've mentioned this in the previous reviews, but the artwork is fantastic! It captures all emotions, intentions and thoughts brilliantly. In wider shots, it maintains the intricacy and provides a picturesque view.
Despite being a story about princesses and fairytales, it encapsulates something not common to them. Happy endings while married to the prince is not always possible. Sometimes, the curses are never to be broken and you are forced to live with it and accept your reality. You can still have your happily ever after. All you need is self love and a great bunch if people surrounding you, who remind you that you are more than your curse. It doesn't define you or hold you back. Only you can do that.
This novel is also rooted in forgiveness. We all make errors and can be judgemental. We all may end up hurting someone due to our actions. So giving everybody a second chance is important. If they realize their faults and are apologetic about their actions, they deserve forgiveness. Slotting people into neat boxes can never work. They have various dimensions and should not be typecasted into a particular role.
Self love is about being kind to yourself, acknowledging the good within and accepting yourself without judgement. While it enforces this message, it also propagates kindness towards others. It can really help someone turn their life around.
The action scenes in this story were stupendous. The action often happens in the gutter outside the panels of a graphic novel. We employ our imagination to fill the gaps. With great illustrations, it makes the imagination easier and more magnificent.
I learnt a lot from this graphic novel and would highly recommend it to everyone!
I absolutely adore the Cursed Princess Club - while I have the WebToon app, I didn't discover this series until earlier this year when my mom picked up the first volume at her library. She was so adamant that I would love it too that I ended up reading the first volume while visiting her, devouring it completely in one day. What I absolutely love about this series is that it reminds me of a DreamWorks cartoon - the drawings and general story will appeal to younger readers, but there are so many jokes and references that only adult readers will truly appreciate.
Cursed Princess Club starts by being a story about the royal family of the Pastel Kingdom - the overprotective, but extremely loving King and his four children: daughter's Maria, Lorena, and Gwendolyn and their extremely pretty brother Jamie (who often get's mistaken for his sister). While the family is extremely loving to each other, Gwendolyn doesn't exactly look like her siblings and it often elicits negative reactions from those around her. This is especially the case after the girls are betrothed to the princes from the Plaid Kingdom and Gwen's new fiancee has a less than stellar response to her.
Gwen ends up running into the forest after the Prince's initial rejection where she meets the Cursed Princess Club, a group of princesses (and one prince!) that have all been forced out of their respective kingdoms due to curses that were placed on them. This ranges from a princess with no eyes, to one with lobster claws for hands, and another that turns into a were-spider at that time of the month. While they assume at first Gwen must be cursed too, over time they realize she's not and this becomes a story about loving yourself for who you are.
I really love this series as a whole and Volume 4 was no different - I enjoyed the advancements in certain stories, specifically Calpernia's and Gwen/Frederick. This book makes me wish the CPC was a real group, as these girls know how to throw parties.
I really look forward to the next volume and am sad there's no publication date announced yet!
I received an ARC copy of Cursed Princess Club Volume 4 from NetGalley for an honest review.
Beautiful and heart warming! <3 Exactly what a hug in a book is. Thanks to my dearest Roshni (@roshreviews) who keeps introducing me to all the new things. The entire series is available free on Webtoons app.
I'm not sure that this is the cleverest fairy tale parody out there, but it's definitely one of the most fun. It also deserves a lot of praise for normalizing discussions about periods even in mixed gender groups - I love that it's part of Prez's more literal curse and that she has no problem with everyone discussing it or knowing about it. Turning into may be cause for shame, but having a menstrual cycle isn't.
This comic healed something in me - an absolute 10/10 recommend. A satisfying, fantastic conclusion to this wonderful series. (I cried at least five times and I wish I was exaggerating.)
The part when Gwen sees her mom in the mirror? Then meets her mother’s family? Wearing her hair in a braid for the first time and seeing herself whole in the mirror?? loving her true, authentic self?
If I have ever have children, this will be a must read for them. It’s already a must read for me, and I think anyone, of any age, could truly enjoy and get something out of it.
Love, love, LOVE Gwen and this story. 💚
Four years have passed since I started reading this, and after months of not checking webtoon updates, I came back to what has become my comfort comic series.
I had to re-read some of the past episodes, and I fell in love over and over again with each one of the following.
This is just…the most original, beautiful, funny, entertaining and moving story I’ve read on this platform. I’ve cried, I’ve laughed and I’ve even healed things thanks to this.
As usual, this webtoon series is full of powerful messages, fun and deeply thought out characters, exciting and perfectly timed plot and dialogue, and beautiful art. Gwen’s journey to self love and acceptance is, as always, extremely touching and sweet. I love the CPC and the Princels aren’t as bad as they seem. Overall a great start to the fourth (and final???) season!
I never laughed so hard. I was literally snorting while reading this. It's just as good as the first one. I fell in love with the first volume and that love is still going strong. I have all volumes in paper and hardback thus far and will continue to do so until the series either ends or we have an unfortunate bad breakup. I sincerely hope that doesn't happen. So far, so good!
The twists of this story, while zany, all make sense and it's believable. The characters are all real and the care they have for one another is palpable. You can feel it and it's so cozy and warm and NICE. This is just an enjoyable, funny romp and I am HERE for it.
HIGHLY recommended if you need something silly and lighthearted and fun, with a serious undertone running throughout. Start at the first volume, the character growth is part of the fun.
5, loving this and can't wait for the next volume, stars!
My thanks to NetGalley and Wattpad/WEBTOON Unscrolled for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
This was an excellent continuation of the Cursed Princess Club series! I loved this installment and seeing how the characters grew and developed from earlier books. This series never fails to make me smile and I can’t wait for the next volume.
This series is so cute. It's about a club for cursed princesses. We get to follow and see their unique stories of how the girls learn to love themselves and live with their curses. This is such a cute spin on princesses with curses.
Who would have thought that a story about cursed princesses, a fabulous llama and finding your beauty from the inside would be for me? Because they were right! This feels like it was written for the kid inside of me that wanted to be a magical girl and a mermaid and in a secret society… I wanted to be a lot of things, but The Cursed Princess Club feels like it’s meant for those people, who like me, wanted to be so many things when they grew up.
I love Gwen so much. She’s not what you think of when you imagine a princess. But just because the outside doesn’t match the inside, she’s judged for it. And seeing as how she’s been so sheltered by her family her entire life, the first time she hears anything negative, it shatters her self image and makes her world turn upside down. I feel for her so much.
This is such a multi-layered story that brings me nothing but joy to read. When I think I know why or what is going to happen, I find out that I really know nothing.
If you haven’t read this yet, it’s available on WebToons now, but if you’re like me, you’ll be waiting for the printed version of each volume.
Thank you to WebToon Unscrolled and WattPad Books for sending me a physical copy.💜
I feel like I've been waiting foreverrrrrr for this next installment of the Cursed Princess Club, and it was so worth the wait!! So much stuff happens, but I can't yell about any of it because it would be spoilers! Suffice to say that things between Gwen and Frederick finally come to a head, as well as figuring out what the deal is with the mysterious (and very cool) tiger-striped face guy! We get a little more character development for Gwen's sisters (whose names are escaping me at the moment) and their suitors as well. Also, laughing my butt off at that one guard, LOL!
This is the fourth volume in the Cursed Princess Club series, and needs to be read in order. I can't wait for volume five!!
I enjoyed returning to this series after finishing the third volume back in November, and I plan to keep up with the physical volumes as they're released. The recap at the beginning of the book was helpful, and it didn't take much time for me to reorient myself in the story.
It's neat how this entire volume takes place over a single day, and while I enjoyed every chapter, I'm looking forward to time moving along more quickly in the future. I want to know about Gwen's mother and see what the CPCPCP discovers while visiting the Plaid Palace!
Cursed Princess Club, Vol. 4 by LambCat was a great continuation in this series featuring new guests to the club, a premonition, progress in love, and a hopeful future for everyone. This one still makes me chuckle with its loveable wackiness, and I'm still enjoying my time reading each new volume that releases. Be sure to check out volume one if you enjoy fairy tale stories with a twist!
I’ve read this graphic novel in full on Webtoons multiple times, but I’m so happy to be collecting them in print and experiencing them again. The Cursed Princess Club is perfection from start to finish. This will always be my favorite graphic novel.
I love so many characters, but Gwen and Frederick are so precious and their development is handled so well.
Shout out to Jamie. His character is hilarious and always makes me giggle.
The cursed princess club plotting to beat Frederick for what he did to Gwen - back in season 1 😂😂. The plaid king is plotting big n get his revenge. Diary of Gwen's mother arc plot where she meet pastel king, fall in love n some pastel king parents disagreement because of her looks. Whitney - redemption arc - for what he did to prez is wrong in the past but now he's changed man n he's apologize to prez. He did save some princesses from danger n also got cursed by his brother.
I'll just use this space to review the final season- what a SLAY! I do think the ending was a bit rushed- maybe the last few episodes could've been stretched out a bit more. And I wish more ends had been tied up in terms of romantic relationships, such as Syrah and Saffron or Prez and Whitney. I really really hope this is not the end of cursed princess club 🙏🙏🙏🙏
This series is so entertaining and I managed to follow the plot really well considering I hadn’t read Vol. 3 beforehand. The characters are all so dumb though, but in a fun way.
[I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.]
A bunch of loose ends slowly being tied up…I can sense a possible ending in a book or two. Still fun, bizarre, and cozy, though the cliche of poor communication as a plot device really got to me in this one. But this series is a bit like popcorn; nearly impossible to stop at just one.
Personally, I thought this book wasn’t as great as the first three. I think the author was kind of grasping at straws at this point. I want to finish the series so I’m gonna read the next book but based on this, I do not have high hopes
