I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Seojun supremacy.
I know I should be rooting for Suho — he’s sweet, he’s soft, he knows her secret — but Seojun just has that energy. That undeniable push-pull tension with Jugyeong that makes every scene with them electric. Also, that whole “don’t sit on a man’s bed like it’s nothing” moment?? I’m screaming 😭
But fr, this volume is such a mixed bag. The commentary on beauty standards and lookism? Starting to fade. I really wanted more of that realness from earlier volumes, but it’s slowly morphing into pure high school K-drama chaos. Not a complaint, just... a shift. And I’m kinda missing the depth 😞
Still, this manhwa has me by the throat. The emotions feel real, the art is jaw-dropping, and the love triangle is deliciously painful. There's this rawness to Jugyeong’s insecurities that hits a little too close to home sometimes — especially when she’s debating whether anyone could love her bare-faced. It’s dramatic, it’s messy, it’s got heart. And I want more.
Manifesting clarity, closure, and more Seojun in Vol. 5.
And maybe... maybe some actual plot momentum too 😭💔

SEOJUN!!! Oh my goodness. Suho who? I'm sorry, I know I'm supposed to be rooting for Suho x Jugyeong but how can I when Seojun is right there? I like his dynamic with Jugyeong better too. She's not so afraid of him. They have this friends to lovers vibe that I love.
I had a hard time reading the scenes in this graphic novel due to the quality of the eARC and I hope that isn't passed onto the published book. I have no clue what Jugyeong was texting Suho about or how he responded because it was so heavily pixelated.
I was amused and swooning at that scene with Jugyeong in Seojun's room where he reminded her, in a flustered huff, that he was a man and she shouldn't just sit on a man's bed so casually. It gave me total otome vibes!
With the news that this series is going to get adapted (again), I saw spoilers galore for the series and now I don't really know how I'm going to continue!
I do find this series lots of fun and very enjoyable. However, I do feel like it's losing it's commentary on superficiality and lookism in favour of this love triangle with Jugyeong, Suho, and Seojun. It's not like I expected this series to be some manifesto, I just thought there would be a tiny bit more on this subject in this volume. It's disappointing to me, and I'm hoping that Yaongyi gets back to it in the next volume.

Yes, this is mostly trashy high school romance KDrama at its finest but I am addicted. There are darker themes throughout, such as mental health issues, which make the storyline deeper than what’s on the surface.
That cliffhanger alone made me rate this one a definite 5 stars. Am itching to read Volume 5 already!
The Jugyeong - Suho - Seojun love triangle is in full effect during these chapters.
Suho and Seojun were both trying out for the same Kpop band, but it is revealed that one of their bandmates died. Could Suho have been involved somehow? He is very depressed and put onto more medication, so is struggling to show his feelings towards Jugyeong. She still has feelings for him, but Seojun keeps popping up everywhere in her life! She just made a new friend at work who turned out to be his sister, he added her on Facebook (by accident whilst stalking her page 😅). She naturally starts getting closer with Seojun whilst Suho is struggling on the outside. When it comes down to it, who will she choose romantically? It’s approaching time for her to go to college, will she be able to get the tuition money to do the makeup course of her dreams?

Llegué a un punto en mi vida en la que ya no me gustan los triángulos porque ahora me gustan ambos personajes y, por más que infiera con quién se va a quedar la protagonista, igual no la paso bien cuando ella elige a uno por sobre el otro.
Me gusta que en este tomo se empieza a introducir poco a poco la soledad de Suho y que también se planta la semilla de los celos... bueno, quizá eso es lo que no me encanta. Creo que una vez había pensado en lo confuso que es cuando alguien siente celos por alguien, como que ese sentimiento te arroja a pensar que sí o sí amas a esa persona y tal vez no es tan así. Lo siento poco racional y eso no me parece bien del todo, o sea, sé que todo el mundo define el amor es desde lo irracional, sin embargo, por algo dicen que el amor no es suficiente en una relación. Quizá estoy exagerando un poco pero mis pensamientos no dejan en ir en esa dirección sobreanalizando cada detalle, sobre todo porque ellos estan en una fase en sus vidas en las que uno está destinado a cometer errores y a dejarse influir por cosas que creen que son decisivas pero en realidad no. Mi punto es, ya está complicado el estudiar y tener que elegir algo para el futuro como para complicarte con el drama del primer amor, así que los compadezco a todos.
Mi consejo de vida es que no tomen decisiones guiados por la idea de que van a estar siempre con la persona que están saliendo. No sé por qué lo digo pero sí, eso es lo que se me vino a la cabeza ahora.

I get so attached to the characters of this series. The naivety of Jugyeong's character in this book is adorable and sad at the same time. The fact that she has no self-confidence is heartbreaking. The author manages to captivate us from start to finish! What follows is intriguing.

Ostatnio miałam okazję znowu zagłębić się w historii bohaterów serii "True Beauty" i się nie zawiodłam, a zakochałam jeszcze bardziej, ponieważ 3 oraz 4 część jest znacznie lepsza od dwóch poprzednich. Dalej też wciąga i sprawia, że ciężko się od nich oderwać.
Oczywiście jak i w poprzednich częściach mamy tutaj pokazany problem z akceptacją siebie oraz to jak wiele makijaż może zmienić, fakt że nie zawsze pokazujemy ludziom swoją prawdziwą twarz. Tutaj jednak dochodzi jeszcze wiele innych ważnych tematów. Pokazuje jak hejt może działać na innych, to że bycie sławnym nie jest wcale tak kolorowe jak może mam się wydawać.
Te części były pod pewnymi względami o wiele bardziej poważne. Ale rozwijaja nam się tutaj także wątek romantyczny, bo nasza główna bohaterka zaczyna coś czuć, ale nie tylko ona.
Te pozycje nie są długie, czyta się je szybko, więc będą idealne na jeden raz. Bardzo miło można przy nich spędzić czas, ale także coś z nich wynieść. Ja je osobiście polecam z całego serca i już się nie mogę doczekać dalszych części! Jak dobrze, że premiera 5 już niedługo!

This book has my favorite cover so far and my least favorite collection of webtoons of the series. I liked the love triangle. But I really hated the body shaming, fatphobia, and focus this collection had the size of the human body. I know Korean beauty has different standards than us, but this has been translated for an English-speaking audience, which reading it can be triggering. I would have liked a little warning at the beginning.

Jak tam mija wam wtorek? U mnie jak widać postawiłem na wykorzystanie słońce do stworzenia kolejnego posta. Tym razem 3 i 4 tom wydawanego u nas przez @wydawnictwojaguar popularnego webtoona True Beauty.
(Uwaga może zawierać spoilery na temat fabuły, dlatego też jeśli nie znasz tej serii, a chciałbyś/chciałabyś poznać moje zdanie to zachęcam do zajrzenia na profil i zajarzenia do postu z recenzją z pierwszymi dwoma tomami ☺️).
Jugyeong Lim od zawsze była obiektem żartów rodziny i rówieśników. Uważano ją za niewystarczająco ładną. Chcąc uciec od swojego wizerunku, zaczyna uczyć się makijażu z tutoriali. A to diametralnie zmienia jej życie.
Seojun, Suho i Seyeon – trzech facetów, których bolesna przeszłość zostanie wkrótce ujawniona. Trzy razy S! Najlepsi Przyjaciele na Zawsze! Ale to NA ZAWSZE może być krótsze, niż którykolwiek z nich mógłby przypuszczać.
Jako, że miałam okazję zapoznać się zarówno z wersją serialową (k-dramą),a także z wersją animę wyczekując kolejnych tomów sądziłam, że wersja komiksowa nie zrobi na mnie wrażenia i zbytnio mnie niczym nie zaskoczy. Nie sądziłam, że będę tak bardzo mocno się mylić.
(Anime w zasadzie ogromnie odbiega od historii aktorskiej, jak i webtoon'owej, przez co szczerze stracił na swoim uroku. Nie będę ukrywać, że to właśnie przez wersję anime trochę się bałam, iż właśnie tak wygląda historia komiksowa. Na szczęście się myliłam).
True Beauty to nie tylko śliczna kreska i momentami zabawna swą karykaturalną formą, ale też naprawdę dobrze wykreowana historia dla nastolatków, ale szczerze również ja (osoba dawno po studiach) świetnie się przy niej bawiłam. Szczerze trudno nie polubić całej naszej trójki bohaterów. I choć nasi bohaterowie mają po naście lat, ilość scen, przy których można odczuć skręt zażenowania ich pomysłami lub podejmowanymi decyzjami jest dosłownie znikoma.
Myślę, że True Beaty będzie idealną serią do leniwego czytania podczas zbliżających się już wielkimi krokami wakacji.
A już niedługo na półkach księgarni pojawi się kolejny 5 tom!

Terminé el ep. 50 y necesito más, menos mal que en webtoon aún sigue, lástima que ya no hay más partes por aquí para seguir calificando pero de por si le pondría 5 estrellas a todos.
Simplemente es una historia que me está encantando cada vez más, al igual que la serie, ambos muy adictivos.

Wolicie posty czy rolki?
Bo ja mój ostatni wpis o serii "True Beauty" i hejcie w internecie miałam początkowo zrobić jako rolkę, ale uznałam, że tak ważny temat trzeba czytać w swoim tempie. Jeśli jej jeszcze nie widzieliście polecam cofnąć się o dwa kafelki :).
3 i 4 tom "True Beauty" recenzuję dzięki uprzejmości @wydawnictwojaguar i jest mi bardzo miło, że nawiązują ze mną współpracę barterową przy komiksach.
Tom 3 cofa nas do wydarzeń bohaterów z przeszłości i porusza tragiczne wydarzenia związane z hejtem internetowym. Temat ten będzie powracał przez całą serię, ale tym razem kończy się on dla bohatera najbardziej drastycznie jak tylko to może być. To obrzydliwe jak ludzie potrafią podcinać skrzydła ludziom, którzy nikogo nie oszukali, nie zwodzili, tylko po prostu komuś się nie spodobał ich wygląd czy stan kondycji w danym momencie. Przypomina mi się sytuacja z Sakurą z Le Sseraphim, która od początku swojej kariery w Japonii I Korei błyszczała, ale z każdym kolejnym niepochlebnym komentarzem gaśnie coraz bardziej.
W tomie 4 trójkąt miłosny nabiera rumieńców i żałuję, że wiem co będzie dalej z tą historią, bo naprawdę za pierwszym razem można przeżywać! Zwłaszcza, że obaj kandydaci na wybranków naszej bohaterki są cudownymi osobami! Nadchodzą też matury, a główna bohaterka postanawia zdawać do szkoły makijażu więc musi się uczyć. Z resztą nie tylko ona, bo każdy z bohaterów bardziej skupia się na nauce. Ale niedługo drogi bohaterów się rozejdą - w końcu każdy z nich pójdzie inną drogą życiową i przestaną widywać się w szkole... Dodatkowo w tomach poznamy tajemnicę ojca Suho!
Kreska choć nadal piękna, mam wrażenie, że jest nierówna, ale co się dziwić - w takich długich seriach jeszcze nie raz będziemy świadkami delikatnej rewolucji po to, żeby koniec końców stawała się lepsza. Przeraża mnie trochę, że jeszcze 15 tomów przed nami!!! Dlatego tymbardziej chwalę wydawnictwo, że wydaje po 2 na raz!

Okay, I’ll be real — True Beauty is both iconic and exhausting 😭. The art? Gorgeous. Like, every panel could be a wallpaper. The message about beauty standards, insecurity, and self-acceptance starts strong… but the story loses its focus halfway through.
Ju-kyung’s journey from insecure teen to confident woman is relatable, and her early growth actually hits. But once the love triangle starts looping for the 47th time (Suho or Seojun nation still fighting for their lives 💀), it becomes more about drama than depth.
What keeps it afloat is the emotional core — that ache of wanting to be seen for who you really are. It’s real, and it’s what makes True Beauty special despite its flaws.
TL;DR: Beautiful art, strong start, mid pacing, too much triangle, not enough self-love. Still, it’s an undeniable cultural moment in webtoon history.

I really struggle with this series. I kinda hate the premise...I hate how badly Jugyeong sees herself when she isn't wearing makeup. We're on volume 4 and I feel like she should have moved past this by now.
But...somehow at the end of each volume I find myself wanting to read the next volume. I wouldn't pay for this series...but I will happily pick up the next volume at the library.
