Cookies And Cookie Bars are one of those desserts that we loved as children and still enjoy as adults. In My Cookie And Cookie Bar Recipe Book, you will not only find traditional cookie recipes, but also everyday Cookies and Cookie Bars you can make all year. Whether you like the traditional Wedding Cookies or something even more special like Apricot Bars this book is for you.
I bake quite a lot and I've been looking around for some different recipes and this book not only has a great selection, it's free, well laid out and nearly all the recipes have a coloured photo of the finished product which is something I look for, I like to see exactly what the finished product should look like. The recipes themselves are fairly basic which is all you need in a cookie recipe, I'm not bothered for fancy the only real problem I had with this book was that as far as I could see none of the recipes gave you any idea how many cookies/bars they made and while yes it may depend on the individual and how much mixture you use but surely the author should give us a rough idea.
I've read through the recipes and made my shopping list but to be honest there's so many that I want to try I don't really know where to start, maybe with the Tangy Lime Cookies, Deluxe Lemon Bars or the Luscious Lemon Lime Bars, I'm spoilt for choice, there's even a couple of stranger ones like Spicy Hot Chocolate Cookies or Chocolate Chip Bacon Cookies....yes that is bacon as in one package of thick sliced bacon! This is an American book so as you'd expect all the recipes use cup measurements, if you don't already have some then they're widely available, most supermarkets sell them.
I wrestled with the score for this one. Had it not been free when I downloaded it, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gone as high as four stars. The recipes themselves look fine, but this is probably the most un-fancy, quick-and-dirty cookbook I think I've ever seen.
To the good, we're talking about cookies. Some of these get pretty creative, and combine flavors in ways I might not have thought to do myself. I've read other reviews on Amazon stating the recipes aren't original. I'm certainly not going to spend my time trying to prove those reviewers right or wrong, but I will say that a lot of them sound pretty original to me. Not all, certainly, and even some of the funkier recipes can probably be found online in some version or other - what can't? - but there's a benefit to having them all compiled in one place.
Also good, there are a lot of recipes. (Or, at least a lot when you consider the book is, at the moment, free.) 45, if we're being specific. 21 are for cookies, 19 are for bars/brownies, and 5 are frostings. That's a lot of dessert!
But the weirdest thing about this? The thing that guaranteed this book could never be worth five stars? There are no YIELDS! You don't know before making it whether a recipe is going to give you one dozen cookies, three dozen, fifty dozen... (Well, OK, we can be relatively sure we won't get that many. At no point are we instructed to purchase industrial equipment or organize a team of church volunteers for an assembly line.) Joking aside, isn't that kind of critical information? I suppose the author could make the argument that rolling your cookies out into a different size will change the yield, but...some of the recipes even say "roll into 1" balls." And the author still can't tell us how many cookies we're going to get?
The overall impression I get is of a cookbook author who slapped the contents of her granny's index cards into a word document and called it a cookbook. Do these recipes look good? Yes. Are they creative? Yes, many of them are. Am I going to make them? Most certainly! But could the author have done a more professional job? Oh yeah.
I would give this an almost four. It is a quick read cook book. maybe 40-50 recipes. There are recipes for cookies and cookie bars. I was pleased to find some recipes I have never seen before. There are quite a few cookie recipes that have some kind of fruit in them. Some for apricots, bananas, orange zest etc.the cookie bars look good too. I am anxious to try out some of these recipes. they all look pretty simple to do. some more expensive than others. I have this book on my kindle. looking forward to trying out many of these treats.
I picked this up as a short term freebie on Amazon.
There are some traditional recipes, but what caught my eye were the more adventurous ones. A spicy cookie (with cayenne pepper) and Creamsicle cookie. my favorite ice cream flavor as a cookie - I have to pick up a couple of ingredients, but then into the oven with this - I have to try it.
Thank you Sara for some cool recipes.
An update. I made a batch of the Creamsicle cookie bars. The family liked them. I have to look for another interesting recioe
Cookie And Cookie Bar Recipes (Cookie, Cookie Bar And Frosting Recipes Book 1) Colorful book showing the item along with the ingredient list and how to make the cookie bars. no nutritional information but they do look easy and fast to make. Many of these you could probably use the healthier choice of some of the ingredients, low fat margerine, egg white, etc.
Cookies, Cookie Bar Recipes & Frosting Recipes Book1
I like this book as it has plenty good cookies and Bars with Frosting Recipes included. The recipes are simple with only a few ingredient to make them. The recipes seem simple to make and would be easy to make for great after school snack for your kids, or just a nice treat for you.
Plenty of wonderful recipes, some I've never seen before.
Lots of recipes and lots of photos to help in your pursuit of a beautiful cookie! Easy to understand instructions and plenty of pantry ready recipes. Would recommend to any level of baker. Some of these recipes are new to me, so I cannot wait to try them out! Thanks for the new recipes!
I liked the variety of cookies and bars. I would have liked how many cookies each receipt would make. I could tell by the side of the pan about how many bars the receipt would make.
I like treats to not only be easy to fix but tasty as well and this book fits the bill perfectly. There is something in here that will please your family and friends as well as having them beg you for more.
I don't have good luck with cookbooks. Never use enough recipes to warrant getting it. This cookbook was like a walk down memory lane! I remember my mother making many of the recipes. I will definitely use this one!
I love baking, especially cookies! I just looked through the book, there are several recipes I want to try. I like the fact that the recipes have most ingredients you already have in the cupboard.
Several of these recipes are simple and involve ingredients commonly found in many kitchens. Using butter in most and only requiring a few steps are reasons I will make many of these.
