The Adventure of the Scarlet Blaze While wrapping up a kidnapping case, Conan and Hattori find themselves on the trail of another criminal: a serial arsonist who leaves a model of a red horse at the scene of each fire. The police and fire departments are stumped, but to Conan, the case feels eerily familiar. Can he jog his memory before the arsonist claims another victim? And what will he and Harley do when Ran and Kazuha receive the fatal red horse?
Gosho Aoyama (青山剛昌) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best known as the creator of the manga series Detective Conan (known in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as Case Closed).
Aoyama made his debut as a manga artist with the work Chotto Matte which was published in the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday on winter of 1987. Shortly after that, another work by Aoyama, Magic Kaito, was published on the same magazine.
This volume starts different from the previous ones...with a new story that directly connects to the last one. There is a recap in the beginning which is unheard of in this series (at least by me)! Then it goes into a arson/murder case which is the covers theme! This was pretty good because as the story goes on...there are 4 potential suspects and I was not really able to figure out who the murderer was until the end...which made this very satisfying. The next story revolves around the Junior Detectives and a bunch of college kids. What starts off as an innocent camping trip turns into a murder mystery! The final story of this volume starts off with a child star hiring the Detective Moore to find his mother who abandoned him as a baby. What starts off as a story about just finding his mother quickly escalates to a murder mystery! I actually believe these children (including Detective Conan) would be scarred for life with seeing so many dead bodies and incidents! This volume concludes in an awesome way ending the case and leaving you very satisfied!
this volume included so many cases that weren’t as entertaining as the ones before. ‘the red horse’ was crafty one but the next two cases were the same old conan-seinen-cases so yeah.
in “the red horse” case there was this little doll that Ran made that she believes if she hanged it outside the window it will not rain the next day. I kinda watched conan when this episode aired and i remember making that doll !
the next cases were okay. so hopefully the next volume will involve some development in the plot!
The Red Horse case was interesting, especially because the killer seemed to have copied the idea from The A.B.C. Murders. I had an inkling that Agatha Christie's famous book was the source - and I was right!
The false friendship story and the kid finding his mom were nice enough. One of the cute moments of this file was Ayumi trying to call Ai as Ai-chan. In the end, Ai did allow Ayumi to do so, but prevented Genta and Matsuhiko!
After the case with Heiji and the code is solved, Heiji and Kasua stay in town. Though there is someone who sets houses on fire. Suddenly there is a fire with someone getting killed. There is a main suspect but something seems to be off. Then the detetctive boys solve a case while camping and finally a child star looks for his mother who left him.
General Synopsis: As mentioned above, I am going to write a proper review for this soon, but I have a few books ahead of this one in the queue, so I cannot stop reading DC NOW! That's sacrilege. I have decided to read all the chapters available up to now (we are almost to 1000!) As you can see, I am totally fangirling over here and I don't care, because this is one of my favorite manga series, ever! But all of this aside, there are a few things I wanted to list so I don't need to go back and look everything up when I do finally sit down and write my fangirl review. ✌🏻
DO NOT click on the spoiler link if you don't want to read all the cases in this volume, because it will ruin it for you. On the other hand, if you're a fan like me or are looking for a certain case (and please note, these are how I have set the cases), etc. click away, that's why it's there.
Another spoiler link, so don't click if you don't want to ruin this manga. I am going to include the characters introduced or as the series continues are in this volume. Personally, I think us DC fans love certain characters more than other (yes, Heiji, I mean you!), so sometimes when we are re-reading this series (like all the time!) you might wish to start at a specific case or start when a certain character is involved.
Characters in this volume:
Personal Opinion: #1, I never call this CASE CLOSED. If you do, you're not a true fan of this series, so don't even bother reading my review or my personal opinions. I'm sorry if I offend you, but you offended me first by telling me you want to read CASE CLOSED or you just love Jimmy.
#2, as you can tell by #1, I read this online. I would never waste my money buying a manga series in english that cannot get the name correct and mess up the main characters to make it appear more "ENGLISH." I am so happy I don't run a blog and this isn't a review on Sailor Moon, #1, because I have a huge soap box tirade against DiC. I also don't think there is anything against reading something online. Comics, which is what manga are, are meant to be read and shared and sometimes paying over $10 is too much in my opinion. Plus, I read the newest chapters as soon as they are released from Japan, because I would never miss a release of DC. So this is my personal shout out to you translators from me, Thank You!
THE RED HORSE ARSONIST: A FIERY PURSUIT Heiji, Conan, and Kogoro investigate a mysterious figure lurking near Ryoko Morozumi’s house, fearing he may be the infamous Red Horse arsonist who has been systematically setting precincts ablaze. When Ryoko’s home goes up in flames in the dead of night, four suspects emerge: a salesman, Ryoko’s secret lover and Feng Shui consultant, her sister, and her husband. With airtight alibis clearing the latter three, suspicion falls heavily on the salesman. But is he truly the mastermind behind the fiery trail of destruction?
DEADLY DESCENT: A MURDER IN THE MOUNTAINS While camping, the Detective Boys cross paths with the Outdoor Club, a group of college students with distinct roles—one cooks, one drives, one fishes, and one funds their trips. Their peaceful trip turns deadly when the club’s cook is found lifeless on the road. Initial evidence suggests a tragic accident—she lost control of her bike and plummeted off a cliff. But Conan’s keen eye spots a crucial inconsistency: the lack of blood at the scene, hinting at a carefully staged murder. With three remaining members and a chilling secret between them, Conan must unmask the killer before they vanish into the wilderness.
A CHILD STAR’S LOST PAST: SECRETS IN ATAMI Seven-year-old movie star Kazuki Kinukawa arrives at the Mouri Detective Agency, determined to track down the mother who abandoned him at a church years ago. He has no intention of reconciling—only to tell her she’ll get no money from his fame. Clues lead Conan and company to a seaside hotel in Atami, where Kazuki’s mother may be hiding under a false name. But before they can find her, a freelance writer seeking to expose a dark family scandal is murdered. His final act—a photo taken at the moment of his death—reveals a woman with a distinctive beauty mark as the culprit. But is she truly Kazuki’s mother, or is there another truth waiting to be uncovered?
Caso "¿Has Visto a Mi Madre?
In this book, Conan and Heiji join Mouri in investigating a case of arson where everything's not as it seems, the kids are on a camping trip that gets interrupted by a murder and Mouri gets hired by a child star to find his birth mother.
It's hard for me to pick a favorite here, since all three of these are actually really strong, enjoyable tales. All three actually have a bit of emotional resonance - with one of the suspects in the first case, with one of the campers (and with Ai) in the second and with both the child and the mother in the last. I think it's one of my favorite volumes of this series.
More good mysteries, the ones about the friends who weren't really friends was just plain sad. I really enjoyed the one about the child star and the fires though!
