Without warning, the lights go out. Cars grind to a halt, and phones stop working. Amidst the chaos, Sixteen-year-old Serenity Jones is forced to flee for her life. The perilous journey out of the city becomes even more difficult when she discovers the route to safety is blocked. The young loner's years as a runaway from the foster care system and subsequent life on the streets have equipped her with survival instincts. However, this fight is different, and Serenity finds herself staring down the barrel of a toxic nightmare. The clock is ticking. In this high-stakes race against time, Serenity must escape a city that seems intent on devouring its own. Endure the Dark is the first book in bestselling author TL Payne's fast-paced Reign of Darkness series.
I wondered if this was going to follow the tried and true pathway for EMP aplpocalyptic novels, but found enough of a difference to keep me engaged with the different characters and storyline. Looking forward to the next one.
This was an excellent first part to this new & exciting series! A brilliant action packed adventure with a strong female main character, lots of action, good levels of tension everything you could want from an EMP end of the world story! I do always enjoy this authors work & I do recommend for all that love this genre!
This book sets up the just-before-the-disaster lives of the main characters, and a fair bit of the book focusing on that before the EMP happens. I was initially skeptical of the main character being a homeless girl, but she emerged as a good character, tough, human, resourceful and able to survive. She ended up being an excellent way to see the unfolding disaster since she could be in places that most regular characters could not. Also have to really like Ruben the ex-detective. Sadly, the bad guys are quite one dimensional, though fortunately, some are not with us for long. I look forward to book 2.
Serenity Is living on the streets and trying to watch out for her friends
Serenity while living on the streets Finds A soul The security guard Reuben , In the mean time Serenity See somebody Taking Emergency food and hiding it. The group take some of it And eats it since they're hungry, Franchise Decides he wants it for himself. While on the streets Serenity meets Finn, An overly bright 6 year-old boy. Read the screw story To find out how a group Of homeless Kids Deal with an EMP.
This story tugged at my heart as I discovered Serenity. She is quite a character… She has so much going on and she comes from so little. But, it’s very believable. The terrible things that happened didn’t take away her spirit but, instead, made her stronger in her resolve each step of the way. Page by page I found her full of hope and it kept me turning the pages! You’ll enjoy this. And, I’m looking forward to book 2!
As all first books in a series go, there was a lot of introductory parts for all of the main characters. I enjoyed getting to meet several of them. I have read this author before and have liked them all. This was no exception. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a post Emp book that isn't A prepper stronghold or even anyone remotely ready for this scenario. A great read!
DNF @ 62% great premise but I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the characters which is weird for me. Very bleak, the homeless angle. Had a nightmare the first night I read it about never being able to exist in a any space comfortably, being constantly told to leave, always had to keep moving. That part stuck with me but I really hated the Craig/corrupt politician angle. And the father of Finn angle. Just didn’t care enough about any storyline to want to read more unfortunately.
I really like the way the action takes off almost from the first page. Serenity, homeless 16 year old kid, trying to keep herself fed. Her father is in prison, her mother is gone, her little brother taken to live with his father. After leaving the foster parents she was dumped with, she struggles to stay safe. This is her story…and it looks to be a good one!
A brilliant start to a new series Reign of Darkness and it's a quick-paced page-turner. We follow Serenity, a young teenage homeless girl when the EMP hits and she knows how to survive. Really looking forward to the next book in December.
Another great book and another series from an author I really enjoy reading his work
What a great first book in the new series. I really enjoyed the story and the rich characters. I read the book in a day and can't wait for the next book!
I liked the characters but wish that there was more of a conclusion. I finished the book which is a great sign since so many books these days are so bad that they are abandoned midway through.
A really good read, I must admit it was just right, not to predictable, I was routing for Serenity all the way, well done grandparents, good job teaching self defence and independence. Can't wait to read book 2
This book has an original approach to others that I have read after The eruption Of an EMP. Of course it was written with an ending that compels the reader to continue the series.
There are a lot of characters in this story. Some good and some really bad. It’s interesting to see how they will eventually connect since they all are going in the same direction. Serenity and Jane are survivors in their own way. Looking forward to reading where Serenity ends up. Personally, I hope she stays with Finn and gets revenge on Hall.
It is a story of what could happen if a EMP went off and the survivors deal with lack of food and water while trying not to be killed by domestic terrorists who want it all at the innocents expense.
This was such a good book! I think having the perspective from a homeless teen is so unique! This is the first of its kind and was really insightful. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens!
