I want to preface this review by saying that I have really enjoyed this series. Maybe it’s because I have been reading them all back to back or maybe I am just getting old and grumpy, but this book was hard to get through and felt tedious. There was lots of eyelash fluttering by men and women alike and basically the entire book was someone telling Cate she needed to rest. And the refusal of the author and Cate to acknowledge at all whatsoever the two men who both want her has gone on way too long. This one wore me out and not in a good way.
Meh. I’ve hit the point I want the series to end. I don’t enjoy the constant repetition of phrases (door burst open, bit her lip, fluttered eyelashes, and for heavens sake, please stop telling everyone to rest!). I also just do not like the main character, Cate. Her personality seems to change mid story and it often feels contradictory. While I enjoyed the first two immensely, the magic bits have gone so far from time travel that I’m just ready for the series to be over.
📚 Book Review 📚 Taken from Dunhaven Castle By Nellie H. Steele
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lady Cate Kensie is ecstatic after her latest successful adventure returns her estate manager, best friend, and confidant, Jack Reid, back after he was kidnapped and tortured by an organization that will stop at nothing to obtain and control the powers held within the stone walls of Dunhaven Castle. Cate’s high spirits are short-lived as she finds that some of her decisions and activities in securing Jack’s rescue have changed history and she must now take drastic measures to save her beloved castle, the castle staff, and her friends. Cate allies herself with a powerful, and some say evil and wily, warlock to find the previous countess of Dunhaven Castle, which includes time-traveling to numerous past centuries on her quest, finding herself in the middle of a famous French emperor's war to control the world, fighting agents of a powerful evil agency, and battling another unknown illness that threatens her sanity and perhaps her life. This latest edition of the Cate Kensie saga was well-written and definitely action-packed. I enjoyed the camaraderie that Nellie H. Steele has infused between the characters' relationships, sometimes loving and other times combative, but always unified. I found the devotion that the author expressed of Cate Kensie on her mission to save her home and family extraordinary. The plot was well-developed and the world-building was outstanding. The book was a real page-turner for me, I enjoyed every minute of the story and fully anticipated the unexpected twist I have come to expect in this series. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great mystery. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reay Copy
I was enjoying the cozy time travel series but now the storyline has changed completely. I made my peace with magic being thurst in this series but there's too much of the time loops and repetitive scenes. The main character's have lost their personality now. Cate is nothing like the girl in the earlier book. Her personality has become so weak and confused. All she does is do whatever Marcus says with a few tantrums here and there. Jack's character has changed drastically. I didn't like how he was treated throughout the book by everyone, even Cate. He has now become Damein part two by getting panic attacks over every little thing. His character deserved better. Somehow Marcus Northcott has taken the lead in this series, sending both Cate and Jack on the backseat.

Cate, Jack and Marcus really go through a lot of time periods in this book! Not willingly most of the time. That Gianna is a real piece of work. Cate can really hold her own against her! We were hit with another doozy of an ending again. I can’t wait for the next book to find out how they get out of that mess! Poor Jack!
Another fantastic story with all the good stuff! Plenty of suspense and action. I'm liking evolution of certain relationships and can only wonder what the next adventure will be. Well done!
The last two haven't been as light as the early books, but they have a lot more action! There were times I just wanted to shake some sense into Cate though. Marcus has really grown on me.
I can't believe I have to wait until November for the next book
As I read this book I became more and more impressed with the Duke. His ability to use time to thwart the bad guys was impressive. When the Duke was first introduced in an earlier book he was a villain. By this book he is a hero. I hope he and Cate stay together. He needs to listen to his mother.
Talk about a whirlwind! This latest time travel book takes off and doesn’t let the reader rest until the end. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Love the twists!
The twist and turns in this book had me wondering, how were they ever going to solve the problem of Jack’s disappearance. I was so engrossed and so involved in this book, but I am afraid my poor puppies wound up waiting too long for their dinners. A spellbound story.
More hominids by the agency and the dangerous games they play. Must say as a cozy it is intense. And as smart as Cate is she can't see the the truth between her and Marcus. The nightmares she had early on :I guess right what they really were.
I love Nellie H Steele, but I do get a little bit tired of how long it takes to free the people in the stories. I love the characters, but I hope the next book doesn’t drag so much.
I love this series but was driven to the brink of insanity by the number of times “biting her lower lip” has been written in the past few books in this series. Saying something over and over like that is distracting and shows lack of imagination. Hoping the remaining books aren’t lip biters. 😂
I love this series, but now that I can't get anymore at the library she decides to do a huge cliffhanger? Hopefully my library will get the next books soon!
Nellie is quite masterful at creating in-depth characters, story, and setting. There is a lot that has happened and happening in Cate Kensie's life. She is able to weave these with the mystery premise of the book. She is quite clever at how she introduces time travel into the setting. It is quite entertaining and thought provoking how she has this travel as major story creating device. Her life in the castle and the characters around are well developed and they become your friends. There are tearful moments and knuckle gripping moments, all making for a great adventure.
I really miss the lighter stories at Dunhaven, but the later half was on fire. Couldn't stop! Cate and Jack became more agitating to me in this book and I wanted to just "shake" them!! ha,ha.
