Who is this man in seat seven?

Amanda enjoyed his smile, pleasant and well framed against the backdrop of his ruggedly tanned face and close cropped dark hair flecked with gray. But at the same time, She sensed a certain sadness beneath the pleasant exterior, as if this strong, durable looking man had been hurt, damaged, or broken in the past. This man is different, She thought to herself and was surprised at the immediate attraction she felt for a stranger.

It wasn't just physical attraction, the kind that many people mistake for love and then proceed to ruin their lives accordingly. No, this was more than that. Maybe it was because of the holiday or perhaps it was due to her loneliness, but Amanda had the feeling that this man was meant to sit at her table tonight, that some unique circumstances had conspired to bring them together.

Could it be love at first sight? Could it be destiny? Could he possibly be feeling the same thing?

Broken Man is the centerpiece of The Broken Man Series of contemporary romances by Christopher Scott. Approximately 200 pages, 50,000 words.

Christopher Scott is a somewhat broken man currently residing in Florida and trying to make sense of the world around him. Broken Man is the centerpiece of the Broken Man Series and is followed by a sequel, Damaged Souls, and the third installment of the series, Broken Again.

Mr. Scott has also spared his readers the ignoble experience of reading his first novel, Shattered Woman. Thankfully, that novel has been unpublished and is being reworked as the fourth and final installment of the Broken Man Series. Look for it in December, 2014.

Jack is Broken Man! He had finally fallen in love with a woman named Brittany. She's a soon to be single mother going through a divorce so naturally, she wanted to take things slow.
Brittany had two daughters and Jack found himself falling in love with the girls as well as their mother. Jack could see a future with her and the kids and he was extremely happy, that is until New Years Eve when Brittany was killed by a drunk driver.
Jack blamed himself for her untimely death because she was coming to be with him even though he didn't want her on the roads on that night.
The girls (Delaney and Bailey, Brittney's daughters) father also blamed Jack and wouldn't allow him to be a part of their lives anymore, so not only did Jack lose Brit, but he also lost his only connection to her.
Jack became depressed and was walking around in a fog so one day he decided to go to Atlantic City and play some Poker.

Amanda was a young woman that has had a rough start in life. Amanda's mother was a alcoholic and a drug addict and didn't pay nearly as much attention to her daughter as she should have. Amanda's grandmother practically raised her until she died when Amanda was 12. After her grandmothers death, Amanda's mothers drinking and drugging got worse and Amanda often found herself alone for long periods of time. At 16, Amanda got a job in a bar so she could take care of herself because at this time, her mother was almost non-existent in her life.
Later she enrolled in college and worked at a casino in order to make a living so she could one day leave Atlantic City behind for a better life.

Jack sits at the poker table that Amanda is working and she is immediately attracted to him, but Jack is only interested in playing poker and not in flirting. Amanda finds this refreshing and soon they become friends until Amanda tries to take their friendship to the next level.
Jack isn't at all ready for this and decides that he needs to return to his real life and not see Amanda anymore.
Amanda decides that Jack isn't like any other guy that she as met and she doesn't want to give up on him, but is afraid that she may be too late!

Man this book was refreshing! I love to read about lost souls and this is a really good book. I am glad that I read it!

The book starts out telling of Jack and Amanda's lives apart about a year before they actually meet. This part is fine and gives you an understanding of the 2 main characters, but the story moved a little too slowly for my liking. Jack and Amanda didn't even meet for nearly half the book. The story has a great premise and plot, but based on the synopsis I expected a little faster pace with different types of details. Much of the first portion of the book could have been done through flashbacks to have the main characters together sooner. I really like my main characters to at least have met each other at least 10-15% into the book. I really enjoyed the banter they had going on at the break tables and wish that there had been more of that. Those scenes seemed to have spotlighted and showcased their personalities best. One of the biggest problem I had was the fact that they understood each other so well without actually talking about things. I get the soul mate part, but that level of understanding doesn't come about without a lot of face time and discussions - which the readers didn't see. I enjoy reading character's conversations as it helps the relatability factor tremendously. All in all, I think that it was a successful debut novel for Christopher and that future books will only get better.

This seemed like it could be a good story, but was just painfully slow and there were a few author quirks I just couldn't get around. One, he never uses contractions, so formal, it just makes for a boring read. Two, there is too much use of the names, Okay Jack said Brit, Wait Brit said Jack, oh Jack, what Brit, just throw in a he said or she said every so often.

Jack and Amanda both have a sad past and meet each other not knowing this. She likes him, he can't seem to move on, but they try and date. I just couldn't wrap my heart around such cold characters, they just seemed too chatty and boring.

The sex scenes were blah, lots of premise, not to heavy on the details. Guess we can figure it out for ourselves. It was almost as if the author was afraid to use some more descriptive wording.

I really tried to give this a shot, I did read the whole thing waiting for it to pick up, unfortunately it never did.

So glad Jack and Amanda finally found their way to each other after all of the hurt and pain that they had both endured. Can't wait too read the rest of their story. I HOPE they get the Happily Ever After that they so DESERVE. Thank you Christopher Scott. I have not read many romance novels written by a man, you did a WONDERFUL job! It was truly a PLEASURE! 3.25 Stars

Great read

I really liked this book and the characters in it. I found myself tearing up in certain parts. I think the author did a great job of helping the readers feel the emotions of Jack and Amanda. It was a quick read as I read it in a day. I would definitely recommend this book to friends.

I picked this book up today knowing that I had a few hours where I could indulge my love of reading, unfortunately I didn't finish the book as I found it very slow paced, what I read was well written but the pace set wasn't for me, I will keep it on my kindle and may return and revise my rating at a later date.
