This is a book and author with potential. The storyline was very real and the characters believable.
Although I thought it was a good story, I can only give it 3 stars for a two main reasons. First, it needs a good edit, not just for grammar and poor sentence structure, but to ensure the character's names are correct. (Jason, running through the woods when in fact it's Tommy. The name mix up occurs at least twice).
Secondly, whilst Spy Hill may be a "very real place" (in the author's own words), the portrayal of it is not. The author needs to do further research on areas that he is not familiar with in order do paint a realistic picture. (I'm much more willing to go with things that couldn't possibly happen if the author has been generally authentic in the rest of the story). This applies to police procedure and domestic violence in the book as well. More could have been done on the issue of abuse, but I think the author generally got this right.
Hopefully the author can find a good editor and improve on this obvious talent in his next book.
