Wish Me from the Water

Two teenage hockey players brutally murder their parents in an unexpected altercation after a close friend and teammate commits suicide. The town's people believe the suicide was another tragic result of bullying, but the two boys have learned the true reason their friend took his own life, and decide to take matters into their own hands.
Detective Dean Daly is called in to investigate the brutal murders and believes there is much more to the murders than first appears.
Not far away, a young housewife, Sarah, is in a very bad place. Her husband Gerald finally crosses the line from verbal abuse to physical abuse and breaks her arm. She takes flight in the middle of the night, and Gerald vows he will track her down to the ends of the ends of time, and insists she can never leave him.
Detective Daly soon becomes involved in both events, not knowing that he will soon be caught in the middle as the two stories collide.

This is a story about courage, strength, and standing up for what you believe

I really enjoyed this book, in fact this is the second time i have read it, its a shame about the odd repeated words, or bad grammar, but I've a feeling that's down to whoever transcribed it onto the Kindle format, and not the author, the story line is gripping and you really get three stories in one, but they all come together in the end in a really enjoyable read.

Makes you consider what if

I chose a five because it held my attention. This book reminded me of the Menendez brothers. What if?
One thing that bothered me is Sarah's story. As a counselor she is not infallible, however not reporting what happened to her and staying in close proximity to her terror just did not set well. One or the other would be more believable. Small bother, did not take away from the read.

A very weak "thriller" that just never really had any meat on it's bones. Brothers Jason & Tommy Oliver murder their parents. This was following the suicide of one of their good friend Tim. The two events are linked. However, the boys refuse to ever disclose a motive. Two other friends Ricky and Bobby visit the boys in jail over and over trying to get at the motive. Detective Dean Daly who showed no sense of urgency throughout the book, was clearly outmatched in this case. I don't think he ever actually figures things out. The other part of the story line is Sarah and her abusive husband Gerald. Sarah is content with being a punching bag for several years. Sarah runs away and begins to live with Simon. The two story lines come together at the conclusion in an implausible series of events. This one just lacked any punch to the thrill. It's characters were just not believable. I had a hard time figuring out who was the most inept of the "adult" characters. The ending was pure farce and made me actually mad. Well, it does read quickly since it lacks a body. If you really have low expectations for a "mystery/ thriller" I'd recommend this. It would be better to just not pick it up, move on to something else.

This is a book and author with potential. The storyline was very real and the characters believable.

Although I thought it was a good story, I can only give it 3 stars for a two main reasons. First, it needs a good edit, not just for grammar and poor sentence structure, but to ensure the character's names are correct. (Jason, running through the woods when in fact it's Tommy. The name mix up occurs at least twice).

Secondly, whilst Spy Hill may be a "very real place" (in the author's own words), the portrayal of it is not. The author needs to do further research on areas that he is not familiar with in order do paint a realistic picture. (I'm much more willing to go with things that couldn't possibly happen if the author has been generally authentic in the rest of the story). This applies to police procedure and domestic violence in the book as well. More could have been done on the issue of abuse, but I think the author generally got this right.

Hopefully the author can find a good editor and improve on this obvious talent in his next book.

Great story. I really liked this book a lot. The author really had me connected with the characters, especially the boys, and that is why the five stars.
There were two story lines right from the start, and both had me hooked immediately. It took me a while to figure how they were going to come together, and when they did, I still didn't know how it would end.
The book left me wanting more, and once I closed the cover after the last page, I couldn't help thinking about the characters and what future was to come for them. there have only been a few books that have done that to me.

Wow! I just didn't want to stop reading. The author really thought this one out, and as much as I thought I knew where it was going, I never saw all the twists and turns along the way. Characters are believable, and so very unique.
I really felt a compassion for the two brothers even after what they did. Something I never thought I would feel after such a crime. Almost cried at times.
If you read the author's other book, Extreme Malice and liked it, then you'll absoutely love this one.
Great read.

I did enjoy this, as in the story, however the writing of it was a bit........ amateurish. Sounds a bit too critical, but I did spot quite a few mistakes, or words that didn't really need to be in there, and over-use of the characters names ..... like "Tommy looked over to Jason, where Jason was ......."
Also thought the ending wasn't quite right....

Still a good story though - despite all that!

Given that this book was either free or very cheap on kindle store, it was a very enjoyable read. An unknown author for me but I would certainly read more of their books. Set near Calgary the book entwined two stories and at first it's difficult to see how they are linked. Two brothers commit a murder and the story revolves around why they did it. Fairly fast paced with good characters along the way, I found I was gripped to know what was going to happen to the boys and those closest to them.

This was quite a good book, yes there were errors in grammar and stuff, but I will leave that to the grammar police :-)

Personally I liked the book, it had me wanting to keep reading and reading and not wanting to put it down.
The ending was a little flat, but still good, matter of fact the whole book was good enough for me to go and get the other books this man has written.

Not my cup of tea. Did not like the writing, author used 50 words where 10 would suffice. It seemed as if it was aimed at young adult but I don't think this was the prime target area. The ongoing theme of 'it's ok for boys to cry' got a bit tedious and wordy. Didn't finish book, got about 20% in and just lost interest.

Amazing Read

I give it 5 stars because it is a "can't stop reading" type of story I almost miss work just to keep reading.

Enjoyable thriller with a reasonable ending. I kind of predicted the climax but read on to see how all the protagonists ended up together.

I love how the characters are well written and lives come together. Good story, but I don't understand why the boys wouldn't tell anyone the secret.....
