Now he's my boss! The guy I had a mega-crush on. The guy my heart pined for like a trendy pair of jeans that fit or an effortlessly chic summer dress. Will the obstacles to our love story last time return this time round? Or will destiny finally realize we deserve a rom-com-worthy ending? Ethan was my crush when I interned with him at his family’s architecture firm one summer. Despite my best efforts, he never saw me as anything other than office furniture. He was polite, cool, and distant. I never quite understood why. Was it him or was it me? His company just took over the lowly architecture firm where I work, making him my new boss. Awkward! After a re-org (thank you stars for aligning!), he’s got a greenlight from my quirky roommate, me, and the universe to ask me out. It should be smooth sailing from here, until . . . I’ve been attracted to Maggie ever since she was an intern at Wells Architecture. But Mom’s Louboutin-clad foot was firmly between me and the beautiful intern. According to Mom, dating and marriage are supposed to be like a strategic company merger. A mere business transaction rather than a love match. After a re-org removes any conflict of interest—like me being Maggie’s boss—I start dating Maggie and quickly realize that this woman is the one. I fall so fast and so hard my head spins. But Mom, a doomed, partially finished office building, and fate have other ideas . . . Can Maggie and Ethan overcome the seemingly unsurmountable hurdles in their path to happiness? Crushing on the Boss is Book 5 in the hilarious romantic comedy series Too Busy for Love . Leah Busboom wanted to become an author since the day she learned how to read! She specializes in the Romance genre because she loves a good story with a happy ending. Her books are known for their heartwarming stories; intriguing characters and hilarious real life situations that will make you want to laugh out loud.
Leah currently lives in Colorado with her wonderful husband, her "Blue Bomber" bicycle and a hundred bunny rabbits that roam free in the neighborhood.
This was a good read. Maggie works for Ethan. They both like each other but the company is dealing with a huge issue. Together they try and fix it but things complicate their relationship. Thankfully, in the end everything works out and they get their happy ending.
First, I’ll talk about Maggie. She is awesome. A true strong woman. She loves to dress to impact and make her curves look awesome. A fashionista. She tackled the project that was managed to be a disaster and made it a successful construction. She saved the project by going to his granpa and asking him to finish the construction. She really cared for the construction of the building, her colleague’s employment and the client. I loved how she grew professionally and everyone was complementing her for her organization and how she managed the project. It was cool ti read the friendship with her colleagues. She is even strong emotionally when Ethan decided to choose business instead of their relationship. I’m glad she didn’t forgive him so fast and was determined to stay professional. I lived her character, her strength, her determination, and professionalism.
Ethan’s character… I disliked him from the beginning. Ethan had a crush on Maggie in the summer internship when they were in college but his Mom insisted that he had relationships with business in mind. So, he was cold with her! An dit seems like he had many dates set up by his mom during at least 10 years since the MC saw each other again. This in itself from chapter 3 had me triggered. He is a mamas boy, letting his mom take control of his love relationships even though he didn’t want to have a relationship like his parents (purely business not for love - which btw are divorced for years and his dad is in his 3rd marriage!!). And it shows (being a mama’s boy) through the book when he is thinking about something with Maggie or even with Maggie and he thinks what would his Mom think or say about x y z!!! Ugh!! “I want to show the parents and my sister how it’s done when you find “the one” and give your heart away.” “This time around, I’m not going to let Mom stop me. I’m a grown man and not a wet-behind-the-ears college kid anymore.” That’s what he said in chapter 3 and had me hoping this is gonna get better because he would fight for Maggie and go for the love relationship not the business relationship. I felt completely disappointed when I continued reading. He even goes out with a girl his Mom set him as a date for a charity dinner. She dressed in skimpy clothes; and even says he checked her out!! I mean, shouldn’t you have eyes only for Maggie. “The barely there dress draws my eyes like a moth to a flame. Now that she’s standing still, merely a few feet away, I blink, then take in every revealing inch.” Ugh. This chapter was just disgusting to me as I felt he was cheating-in a way- on the girl he said he liked. It’s like he can’t say no to his Mom. And why did he have to go for a hug at the end of that date??!! Again… ugh!! And oh, how bad he hurt Maggie when he was cold with her after his Mom caught them kissing in his office. Full on rejection. Just because of his Mom!! And the change of his Mom’s belief about marriage just in a few weeks time made me mad. She repeatedly told his kids that marriage was a business transaction and love shouldn’t be involved. And suddenly, she went to a paint and sip event and fell in love with the paint instructor!!! And the wedding in the book is hers not the MCs!!! I just wanted to finish the book!! And forget about.
At least the relationship with his dad improving was a good highlight. I liked that. And his involvement with his siblings.
All those bad things tainted the good moments they lived together. For me at least. If it wasn’t for Maggie’s awesomeness, this book would be terrible as a romance novel. Sorry. But it wasn’t that romantic to me when the H is like Ethan.
SAFE virgin/celibate/manwhore: doesn’t say age gap: not much ow/om: one date with a ow separation/breakups: yes cheating/sharing: no possible triggers: he can’t say no to his Mom regarding his love life - seems he has dated a lot for business, he goes on a date with a girl his Mom set him with for a dinner and she was dressed almost naked, he is hot and cold with Maggie HEA
The Too Busy for Love series has been such a fun series to read, and I have been impatiently waiting to read the next installment that features my favorite character of the series thus far, Maggie. Let me tell you, Crushing on the Boss did not disappoint and quickly became my favorite in the series thus far.
Maggie’s story was everything I thought it would be and more. She is such a refreshing character, so fashionable, beautiful and smart with a good, confident head on her shoulders and I love to see it! I was curious to meet the man that would elevate Maggie and be a good partner, and Ethan is absolutely perfect! Ethan and Maggie are old crushes that end up reconnecting when Ethan becomes Maggie’s boss. The flames haven’t distinguished over the years, but dating the boss is the least of their worries as they work together on a huge project that threatens to take an entire company down with it.
I lived for the tension that built between Ethan and Maggie as the story progressed, and loved every scene they shared together. Honestly, the entire cast of characters are wonderful, with the exception of a few bad apples that I loved to hate. There were moments that I giggled, and I caught myself grinning almost the entire time I read, which is exactly what you want in a rom-com. There were also moments of sheer frustration as they fight against the clock to get the project finished, and so much gets in their way that I really began to wonder about the ending. Luckily, the novel ended on a happy note and quicker than I wanted it to! There is a sixth book already in the works, so I am back to impatiently waiting.
This series gets better and better as does Leah’s writing. The imagery puts you there in the office and at the building with the characters, with people that you can’t help but fall in love with and root for. It’s the best kind of romance and one that I highly recommend.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through BookSprout. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
I enjoyed this book a lot! I think it’s one of my favourites from this series. Maggie and Ethan had crushes on each other as college summer interns at his family’s architecture company. Years later his company acquired the company Maggie was working at and the feelings were still there. But the path to future happiness was littered with work problems, shady business dealings, and sabotage. I liked that they weren’t too coy about expressing interest in each other, once it was feasible in terms of their work relationship, and that we saw a good portion of time of Maggie and Ethan dating. Sometimes it’s just nice to see characters in a happy relationship. Unfortunately, they definitely had their hands full with work stresses with pretty high stakes. I was engaged in the whole work situation. It was a really intriguing plot line and kept me engrossed. Maggie was a great sassy female main character, and I liked Ethan a lot too. The secondary characters were so funny and entertaining, they really fought to steal the show. I’m looking forward to the next book, which is focused on two of the most entertaining of them. There is carryover from other books in the series (and I enjoyed them so I’d recommend reading them for the best reader experience), but this book reads very well as a standalone. This is a closed door story with no harsh language.

This is one of those books that you just don't want to put down or even end. I loved Maggie and Ethan's story. Although Maggie is a strong passionate and a totally independent woman she still feels as though she has to prove her talent and worth in a very male environment where she works. When Ethan and his mother's company merge with the company she works for there are major issues over management and suddenly Maggie is promoted to project manager. This is what she has longed for and she hopes to prove to everyone but mostly Ethan how well she can do this. Secretly having had a crush on each other when doing summer internships together years ago their fledgling romance builds. But nothing every goes to plan but after quite a few hilarious escapades the twists and turns hopefully workout and maybe love can workout. I recieved this as an ARC copy and this is my own personal and honest opinion and review of the book. I truly hope you'll enjoy this just as much as I did. Five stars 🌟 is definitely not enough for this book
You will love this newest book in the Too Busy for Love series. It was a blast watching Maggie and Ethan try to navigate a personal relationship through the minefield of relationships that plague their headline construction project. I think the thing that really set me chuckling was the fact that I have worked (or knew someone who did) in the construction industry enough to believe that the nepotism and borderline illegalities could actually happen and lead to exactly the featured consequences. Maggie and Ethan are perfect together and will be a force to be reckoned with in the design and construction industry for many successful years to come.
I received an ARC copy of this story from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Margarite struggled to advance at an organization that only promoted men and downplayed her contributions until her former crush Ethan’s company takes them over. Still she struggles with so many setbacks perpetrated by corrupt men. I was amazed at what she was able to accomplish with determination and perseverance. She is such a fashionista too rocking the body she has and clothes that make her look good. Ethan is attracted to her but has to deal with his mother’s preconceived notions about marriage and the financial struggles of the new company. There were so many laugh out loud moments in the book. Her new roommate is a riot. But also sweet moments too. I also have a fear of heights and Ethan was great about that.
Charming rom com. Fun, romantic read for these hot summer afternoons. Maggie and Ethan meet up again after being summer interns together in their youth. Now Ethan is Maggie's boss so they have to tread carefully in the workplace and above all, in front of Ethan's domineering mother who believes in business matches not love matches! Love Breezie and Oliver, eccentric minor characters. Maggie is very independent , refreshing to read though the obsession with fashion was a bit overboard at times. As for Ethan , romantic and rather swoonworthy but could be a little 'wishy washy' in a couple of places. Adds to the contrast between the two. As I said before, a refreshing change from a dominating male. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I am of course fully biased in my review: I am an architect and this was about an architect!!! Yay!!! Finding love with her new boss slash fellow intern all those years ago slash her forever crush and eek I was here for it.
Loved Maggie in book 4 in this series, loved her even more. Ethan was perfect for her and while I was sideeying his lack of spine in the “we need to keep things personal” mini plot arc, he turned himself around.
My only issue with this book is that I do not see this happening in real life, as I work in government as an architect and all of my bosses are old… ha! Thankfully I have this book to fondly look back on to, and more books in this series to catch up on.
I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.
Maggie and Ethan are so great together. They knew each other when they interned at Ethan's family business years ago but never took the chance to tell each other how they felt. Years later Ethan's family merges with the business that Maggie works for, and the sparks start to fly instantly again. I love that in this book Ethan wastes no time in pursuing Maggie, but they have a lot of odds against them. Frist he is Maggie’s boss and Ethan's mom does not approve of relationships that don’t provide business benefits. Maggie is great at her job and loves to blog about fashion, it is one of her passions. The two of them are great together if you want to laugh and swoon all in the same book then this one is for you.
Maggie and Ethan have had a crush on each other since her internship at his family’s architecture firm. He always behaved properly. And now his company has taken over the firm where Maggie works. A re-organization allowed them to date, much to their mutual happiness. But work is still difficult and they both have their hands full working out the details. Will they get a chance in their busy schedules and problem-solving to nurture their relationship? Or will that go on the back-burner while they take care of the business issues that arise? Because he already knows that Maggie is the one for him!
Maggie and Ethan met before during an internship. Now Ethan and his mother have bought the company that Maggie works for. Turns out things are not going well for one of the tower projects so Maggie becomes head manager of the project. She still has a crush on Ethan but isn’t sure about his feelings. I must say this one wasn’t my favorite of the series. I wasn’t really into all the construction stuff. I was just getting irritated with the last company and all the things they messed up on. Maggie was the perfect person for the job even though Ethan couldn’t figure out what he wanted. I wasn’t expecting his mom to have such a drastic change but it worked out for everyone.
Ethan and Maggie know they have a strong attraction the first time they meet, but Ethan's mom only believes in marriage matches that foster good business relationships. She complicates his love life for years. When Ethan sees another chance to put his love life back on track with Maggie, he decides this time he won't let his mom interfere. When she does, he almost loses Maggie again. Finally fighting for a true love match and the woman he's wanted in his life for so long, he stands up for their future together and pours out his heart. This book has a great story line full of humor and colorful characters. It's definitely worth the read!
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from Booksprout.
They secretly crushed on each other as interns now they meet again as young professionals. Their relationship is strained by outside forces that they struggle to deal with. They are an adorable couple. He's a hunky nerd, and she's a flirty fashionista. Their friends are quirky and fun, too.
The story was well written it moves along quickly, but is not rushed. It's mostly light and funny with a few surprises, but also has a few more touching moments.
I enjoyed reading Crushing on the Boss, book 5 in the Too Busy for Love series by Leah Busboom. I loved the leading characters, Maggie and Ethan, and that the crush was not one sided. It’s always fun to be able to laugh out loud when reading a book and this author has a wonderful knack of creating situations that make me laugh out loud or at least shake with laughter if reading while someone else is trying to sleep. There were some happy surprises along the way and of course, a happy ending. I would recommend this fun read and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
This clean rom-com was a fun read and is the second book I have read by this author. It is also the second book in the series that I have read and it can definitely be read as a standalone. If you are looking for a light-hearted read with humor & romance, you will want to read this! I found the characters engaging and relatable. I loved the dual POV as well as I love being able to get inside the heads of both main characters.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a sweet, swoon-worthy, clean (Thank You Leah!), funny, and exciting book. The real life problems of family meddling, crushes, changes in the family dynamics and how that can have a bearing on your own personal love life was beautifully written. The go-getter attitude and self-love that Maggie has in this book is absolutely incredible. I need to find a real life blog like hers so I can follow it, 😂. Leah wrote an amazing book that I lost myself in and would again and again.
Kisses only. This has a very tenuous connection to the other Too Busy For Love books (Breezie is in this book and the first of that series as is William Clutterbottom). The book was fine. I didn’t like when the author had the characters refer to “my date”, “my girlfriend” and “my boyfriend” I felt it dehumanized the characters. Why not just call them by their name especially since we know to whom they’re referring.
I love stories where the woman is strong, smart, and confident. Maggie has it all, and it was pleasantly recognized by her new boss. There are problems galore in the workplace that Maggie has to solve as a manager, but the heart issues are on a whole different level. Ethan is a good boss, a respectful team player, and a great romantic interest, if he can keep his mother at bay. Yet another delightful story by this author.
This is a fun story with a second chance for love as well as career success for Maggie. There's romance, humor, and skulduggery as finishing a major architecture project under "impossible" conditions. Great characters with chapters written from different point of view in this smoothly flowing book. Very enjoyable!
A charming and delightful romance. It was wonderful to read about a capable woman in the workforce. It is kind of a second chance romance. Entertaining and engaging. Thanks to Booksprout for providing a copy. My review is voluntary.
I really liked Margarite and Ethan! I found the secondary characters hilarious, as most of the problems they had with their construction site. And i loved seeing how Maggie bloomed in her project manager role. Also, the dates Evan organized were to die for!
What a fabulous romcom filled with love, laughter, a little deaviousness, and lots of heart. I truly enjoy this series and highly recommend it to anyone enjoying a lighthearted fun read.
Such a fun story with a dynamic couple Maggie and Ethan. They are so sweet and swoony. There is a surprise that it didnt see coming making for some laughs and all around great story.
