The house across the road from the Tooms has been empty for years, so Gerry Tooms is surprised when he sees an old man in a rocking chair on the porch. He is even more shocked when the headlines if the old man's newspaper predict future events, most of the dangerous and deadly.

When Gerry discovers the old man has a message warning of a dark force, they must work together to fight an evil ghost and save the town. But who is the old man, why must Gerry save the town and hpw is he going to do it?

Read 5/9/2026- okay so I have read a few of the books in this series and they are interesting and creepy 🤣 of course but so far I am glad they are small books 📚. They are also geared towards younger people who enjoy creepy stories lol 🤣. In this one we met Isaac who lives across the street from a spooky house believed to be haunted. One night Isaac looks out his 2nd story window and spots an old man rocking his chair and the guy gives Isaac the creeps. After that a lot of scary things start to happen around town. Supposed to be cursed by original owner Mr Greenville anyways the old man tells the boy that he is a ghost 👻 and he needs Isaac's help getting rid of Me Greenville in order to save the town and that is all I am going to say enjoy.

I picked this little novel up at the dollar store. The cover made the story sound interesting and it is October so I purchased the little book. Books tend to follow me home like lost puppies.
Anyway, this is a young adult (YA) novel. It is good for short time entertainment. The story is only 107 pages including illustrations. As soon as you get interested in it, it is over.
The story is about a young boy who meets an old newspaper editor who lived next door. The two have an adventure that may possibly save the town from a long recurring curse.

This book was not what I expected. It was actually pretty good. The ending was not what I expected either. As a mild spoiler, the ending was not a happy one. It was also pretty dark. Overall, this book gave me the "creeps", pun intended. It would have scared me when I was in grade school I believe. It's a bit dark for children.

This was such a bore. The mystery and creepiness was missing. I didn't like Gerry, the protagonist. The plot revolved around this Moot guy and we can all see what was going to happen in the end... I have to say I am disappointed after being impressed by Edgar J. Hyde's last book.

This was the second book that I read in this series. I’m not the target audience, but I find these books to be an easy read to do in one sitting. The end had a twist I was pleasantly surprised with!
