The house across the road from the Tooms has been empty for years, so Gerry Tooms is surprised when he sees an old man in a rocking chair on the porch. He is even more shocked when the headlines if the old man's newspaper predict future events, most of the dangerous and deadly.

When Gerry discovers the old man has a message warning of a dark force, they must work together to fight an evil ghost and save the town. But who is the old man, why must Gerry save the town and hpw is he going to do it?

This was such a bore. The mystery and creepiness was missing. I didn't like Gerry, the protagonist. The plot revolved around this Moot guy and we can all see what was going to happen in the end... I have to say I am disappointed after being impressed by Edgar J. Hyde's last book.
