When he turns, I see his eyes. There's a sense of surety in them, a sense of danger, a sense of entitlement and definitely, arrogance.'

'My gaze drifts to her exposed back, and the tiny knot that secures her shimmering choli in place. Emotions of anger mix with a strange desire in me.'

Four years later, when they meet again, D's world has crumbled around him. The burden of caring for his sick father and six-year-old sister has left him with little time for anything else. Yet, despite their diverging paths, D and A find themselves reconnecting in unexpected ways. Their mutual attraction deepens.

Seriously?! The guy talking all shitty things to a random girl just like that feeling all self righteous taking up more than the first half of the book and the girl is just nodding to it all?!

Yes, racist and sexist terms are still getting printed and I do not understand how we are all still okay with it.

Dive into the realm of romance and life’s unpredictable twists as Durjoy Datta weaves another captivating tale, exploring themes of love, career, relationships, family, and friendship in his new book World’s Worst Best Girlfriend. With an engaging plot and vivid narrative, the story delves into Aanchal’s life, her complicated relationship with Vicky, and her journey to success. We witness the struggles of a middle-class family striving to achieve their dreams.

Durjoy Datta’s writing style is captivating, keeping the readers engaged throughout. It touches upon subjects like abusive relationships, life struggles, and making the right choices. The descriptive narrative allows readers to immerse themselves in the story’s settings and emotions. While the book is primarily a romance novel, it also explores the importance of friendships, family dynamics, siblings bond and personal choices. These elements add depth and richness to the narrative, making it more than just a typical love story.

As always, Durjoy crafts relatable characters that resonate with readers. Stepping into the shoes of Aanchal and Daksh, it makes us realize that life can change at any moment, it’s up to us how we take it. While Aanchal’s character is compelling, it is Daksh who truly shines, evoking a range of emotions from readers. You will feel angry at Aanchal’s actions and feel proud of Daksh and his approach towards life. Supporting characters like Vanita, Gaurav, and their families add depth to the story, offering glimpses into the world of male friendships, which is equally fascinating.

IT'S NOT THAT BAD-- (I'M LYING)

I hate Aanchal, she's my most hated fmc EVER. She's that bad. She realises the mmc's worth when she finally see's that he's moved on with another woman and wants him back.

I BEG DURJOY to not give them a happy ending. Because that would be SO BAD on Daksh's part.

I always believe in the saying that 'the people who are not with you at your worst don't deserve you at your best'.

And she just DOES not deserve him. I know that daksh looked like a little rich brat when he was first introduced but no my man has been through it after his mom died. He deserves better PLEASE DURJOY. And the abortion part just blows my mind. Like miss ma'am does not know what communication is. Like I get that she wants to succeed in her career but why WHY would you do THAT to a already suffering person.

SHE BROKE HIM.
AND FOR THAT....
I WILL ALWAYS HATE HER.

Book 59 of 2023- World’s Best Girlfriend
Author- Durjoy Datta

“He reminded me of that feeling of being seen, of being important. Of what it’s like to have an audience of one and yet feel as if an army of people are hanging on to your every word.Once again,he made me feel as though everything I said should be carved in stone”

It’s a story about Daksh and Aanchal. Both are different and twisted in their own unique ways. They both got to meet in a posh resort in Andaman’s, and they ended up having a major crush on each other, they are super attracted to each other, but that was it. They didn’t stay in touch after the trip. Aanchal has a toxic boyfriend and a load of family responsibilities to be taken care of. On the other hand,Daksh’s world is so different and he doesn’t have to care about a thing, life was sophisticated. But for Aanchal, it’s just the opposite. Fate plays a big role in their life, what happened in their lives? Did they end up together is what the rest of the book is about.

I thoroughly enjoyed the reading. It was fast paced. Anyone could easily finish this book in one go. I love the way Durjoy has handled the whole toxic boy friend relationship part and the way she move from him. It’s so realistic. I’ve never read something this closer to reality about a toxic relationship. Overall it’s a great read! All the love and romance would make us fall in love, all over again.

But hey, the story isn’t over! Part 2 is coming soon! So it’s your turn to read this book and eagerly wait for the next part just like me!!

This was my first time reading a Durjoy Datta book. I was very disappointed. I found the story to be below average and the repeated use of abusive language throughout the story was extremely disgusting. Also, there were several typos in the book which I don't expect as a reader.

Anchal and Daksh meet on Andaman Island during their vacation and realise they have a crush on each other even when trying to stabilise their failing relationships. They spend time together, though they know they aren't meant to be. But four years later, Aanchal meets Daksh again under different circumstances, and this time, they are still going through rough patches in their relationship and life, respectively.

What hits off as a fling for Aanchal ends up being the love of his life for Daksh, but they part ways because their priorities are different. Daksh wants to get married and raise babies, while Aanchal wants to soar high in her career, and she is still suffering the after-effects of her previous toxic relationship. They meet again three years later in a marriage, but this time, Aanchal realises she is in love. But is it too late already, or will they find their together forever?

Personally, the book did so much better than I had expected. It was a portrait of modern complicated relationships and the accountability that comes with it. Daksh was like a breath of fresh air, a guy whose existence was a far-fetched dream. Aanchal, though independent and assertive, is indeed the worst girlfriend and wouldn't accept it otherwise.

I would have enjoyed it better if it were not so predictable and repetitive and had the extensive detailing of their sexual encounter been in check. The swearing was still acceptable because it kept the narrative real. The ending, even though was a cliffhanger, I was completely satisfied with it. I feel that even the next part should continue along the same lines. Whatever said and done, I can't accept either emotional or physical cheating in a relationship as casual and a helpless alternative to a toxic partner, and it was the ultimate letdown for me in the end.

Anchal and Daksh meet in a resort in Andamans, a very unlikely bonding occurs. They are different not only in their social and economic conditions but also maximally in their outlooks for life.
Although they go their separate ways - Anchal has found her lucky charm and Daksh a crush for life.
.
We meet them again 4 years down the line, when life for both of them has changed. Anchal is different, so is Daksh but the attraction has somehow stayed - So will this be your usual boy meets girl, then meets again to be a happily ever after?
.
Absolutely not! Durjoy adds reality and practicality and most importantly the contemporary touch to the story - relationships and adulting is not easy. You have to deal with family responsibilities, social face along with your heart and mind!
.
The representation of a toxic partner and hanging onto a relationship coupled with a strong supportive cast in Gaurav, Vanita, Rabbani and others gives the story more perspective.
.
To be honest, I could identify with a lot of situations in the story. Understandably Daksh is more loveable a character than Anchal but not judging at all, we have to see Anchal and what led her to take most decisions.
I love that luck is given a role her in itself because however much we deny it and want to make it scientific, destiny does have a role, I believe.
.
This was incidentally my first book by Durjoy and I am looking forward to the next one!
.

°°World's Best Girlfriend by Durjoy Datta°°

Thank you @penguinindia for giving me the opportunity to read my first ever Durjoy Datta book. Although it is presented to us as a romance book, I think it aimed at things more than just an average romance novel. I do have my issues with the execution and how I expected a bit more classy take on how things are presented, I still think a lot of themes in it can be discussed.

The representation of a toxic teenage relationship and the repercussions of it on the one who was abused throughout and her future relationship choices is the centre of this novel. I do think that this depiction could have been done in a better manner considering that the target readership is full of young adults (the language use at some points was really off putting for me) nevertheless the point that one can be stuck in an abusive relationship and get scarred for life was put across. The accentuated portrayal of abuse could've been done in different ways.

Another strand of the book was the showcasing of alternate career choices and normalising it. A lot of talent is wasted in between the fixed choices of engineering, medical and commerce rat race and the protagonist's brother strives to be a gamer which is an emerging career option that not a lot of parents in India accept as a viable one.

The characters had their share of sweet and tragic moments and if you're looking for a short read this week you might just pick this up.

Durjoy Datta's "World's (Worst) Best Girlfriend" takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster through the complexities of modern relationships. While the book offers an intriguing perspective on the struggles of toxic relationships, it does have its share of shortcomings.

One aspect I found challenging was the use of irrelevant comparisons and cliché statements throughout the narrative. For instance, comparing boys playing FIFA to the Pandavas gambling with Draupadi's fate felt insensitive.

Another point of contention was the unrealistic conversation between the mother and son about his girlfriend's physical attributes, which occurred on page 25. While it may have aimed to address the topic of open communication about relationships with parents, it came across as forced and out of place.

The book explores the struggles of getting into prestigious colleges like SRCC and the relationship challenges that accompany academic pursuits. It underscores the desire of people wanting to excel but being held back by their toxic partners. Toxicity comes in the form of gaslighting, abusive language, and plain blackmail.

A funny observation I made was the author’s correlation of correct English in text messages as a measure of the person being a good partner. Although I myself am a huge use-correct-English-on-text person, not doing so doesn’t make the person bad in itself.

One of the strengths of this novel is its departure from the typical love story formula of a happy ending together for the two protagonists. This unexpected twist was refreshing and provided a unique perspective on relationships. However, the announcement of Part 2 leaves readers curious about the direction the story will take.

Throughout the book, the relationships portrayed are consistently toxic, leaving the impression that there are no truly healthy connections in Aanchal's life. This may be a reflection of the author's intention to emphasize the impact of toxic relationships on life choices, but it would have been more balanced if at least one relationship had met the expectations set by the book.

Aanchal's character is considered selfish and self-centred by the other characters, and her actions often raise questions about her choices and motivations. Daksh and Aanchal's compatibility also comes under scrutiny, as their differing views on family and children make them seem incompatible.

The title "World's (Worst) Best Girlfriend" feels somewhat inappropriate. Aanchal has been gaslit to believe that she is the “worst girlfriend”. And, in the entirety of the novel, we don’t see her “best girlfriend” phase either. The title couldn’t have been World's (Worst) Best Boyfriend either, because like Aanchal, although Daksh hasn’t been the worst boyfriend, his best boyfriend phase hasn’t been brought to the limelight.

One notable feature of "World's (Worst) Best Girlfriend" is Durjoy Datta's writing style. The book is crafted with a fluid narrative of two protagonists that makes it remarkably easy to read. The abusive language though is something I don’t appreciate in the books I read, and this one has a lot of it. The author’s concise chapters keep the reader engaged, and I found myself immersed in the story, finishing the book in less than five hours. This accessibility and readability positively contribute to the overall reading experience, making it a book that can be enjoyed in a single sitting.

In conclusion, "World's (Worst) Best Girlfriend" by Durjoy Datta offers a unique take on modern relationships and toxic dynamics. While it attempts to shed light on the impact of such relationships, it leaves readers longing for at least one positive and healthy connection in Aanchal's life. Nonetheless, the cliffhanger in the ending adds a layer of intrigue, leaving readers eager to see what Part 2 has in store for Aanchal.

There is nothing to review actually.
"mumma yaar", "chota baby", "baby, babu"
I just can't with it!!!
DNF'D

I also don't understand why still people who can make an impact (the author) are promoting shitty behavior in the name of 'showing the reality'.
There is no reality into only getting a job/life/career/future if you study all day but still have a secret boyfriend.

Forced myself to read more than 3 chapters to atleast know the second character's POV. But tgat too was just a waste of time.

No hate for the author, just for the immature mentality!

Name : World's best girlfriend
Author : Durjoy Datta
Genre : Contemporary romance

My 💭 :

If you are a rom-com lover and love complex relationships between grey characters, this is THE book for you!

Before we begin, I was so happy to read that the hero is a Bengali guy too! The bengali in me jumps in happiness everytime I find a Bengali character 🤩.

Full disclosure : this is the first time I am reading a book by Durjoy Datta. If you guys know me, I am not a huge rom-com fan tbh, so I generally avoided this author's works as his books are from this genre only. But since change is the only way to grow, I decided to give his new book a go. (Omg I can rhyme 😂!)

Very surprisingly, I finished this book at one sitting. The pages just flew by! I must say I understand now why there are so many youth fans of the author. His writing style has an addictive quality that will keep you wanting more. So unsurprisingly, it was past 2 AM when I was done with the book. 🙈

The story gave me a feeling of hot and cold throughout. I absolutely LOVED the first 100 pages or so. The first meet cute and the quirky banter between the MCs were very engaging to read. And tbh, I liked both the characters at this point. Aanchal seemed like a very realistic headstrong girl. She knew what she wanted and she was gonna have it - her attitude was like that. It was quite inspiring to read this side of her. Daksh, on the other hand, was complete 180 from her. He was laid-back, chill and casual, with a head full of romantic idealism. He was a walking green flag, if not a little too green, a little too much on the emotional side. He had this conversation about his nature with Aanchal and I really liked her response that he will get someone who will love him for him. And YET... ☠️

I have so much to say about Aanchal. At the beginning of the book, she seemed like a good person with a few streaks of greys, but definitely a person who knows the difference between right and wrong. And yet she stayed with that toxic abusive gaslighting guy Vicky. Okay, she might be in gratitude towards him for helping her out in studies, but that doesn't mean she HAS TO be in a relationship with him forever. Doesn't a learned girl like her know that? Tbh it didn't feel like she ever loved him, it kinda felt like she kept him in her life during school days to get better in studies, like her brother Gaurav suggested. I couldn't digest the fact that she remained mum during the final showdown between Vanika and Vicky and only started speaking after Vanika took control of the situation. Why? She could have discussed her situation with Vanika and they could have come up with a solution to get rid of him. But no, she kept playing victim and let others do her work. She even spoke kindly towards Vicky during the showdown, like WTF is wrong with her? I started liking her less after this. She herself started becoming a red flag during this toxic relationship. She made some serious error in judgement with identifying good people in her life. And why was she so obsessed with talking about d1cks? Ew.

Now coming to our hero. Daksh seemed like a really mellow charming guy and he maintained that till the end. His relationships with every character in the book, except Aanchal, was so wholesome! But with Aanchal, he behaved like a Majnu. He was so self centred that he couldn't even fathom why Aanchal didn't want to get pregnant. He said she only had to give 9 months, but dude, do you have ANY idea what havoc those 9 months wreck on a woman's body? And it's HER body that will bear everything, which might effect her future and career plans and being a career oriented girl, obviously she didn't feel ready to be a mother at that point. If Daksh really loved her, he would have understood that. And if Aanchal really loved him, she should have communicated properly with him. No, after finishing the book, I am quite sure that what they had wasn't love. It was a mixture of crush, lust and obsession. When it's love, you WANT TO do the compromise and your selfcenteredness disappears, instead of multiple rounds of breaking up and patching up. Omg I suddenly understand today's dating era relationships so much better 😲!

In my opinion, Daksh and Aanchal were red flags to each other in the end. If they were real people, I would have suggested them to move on and forget the whole thing. But the author has other plans 🤭. I am really excited to see how the characters grow in the sequel 🤩!

Huge shout out to the secondary characters, especially Gaurav and Vanika. They were my favourite characters in the book. 🙌

In conclusion, I liked reading the story development and pace, though the second half got very toxic and triggering for me. My lesson from this book is something I already follow myself: unfiltered communication is important in ANY relationship. Be it romantic one or friendship or with parents. Most of the time we develop an idea of the other people in our mind, which is quite different from the real person. And we set our expectations acc to our idealistic version of the person. So, it's best not to assume things about the other person and straightforwardly ask them the questions whose answers you NEED to know. That way, both parties are always on the same page. I realise after reading this book, my appetite for human complexity and toxicity is very low. No wonder I prefer books over people IRL 🙈.

First thing first the story is realistic. I have seen people both male and female and heard different different stories which is included in this book as a whole story.

Now I personally didn't like any of the main lead both are narcissistic.

After this it's *****Spoiler Alert*****

I think I would not like anyone with same traits as Avani or Daksh.

Let's first comes to Avni.

She is ambitious which I like. She is selfish and thinks about herself it's not bad to be honest specially when you don't even like the other person that much and that person is actually harassing you.

What I felt bad is she didn't have any empathy.
In the first part Daksh tells her about sameeksha and how serious he was which is enough to tell he is someone with deep emotions and if it was not enough after seeing the tatto of Rabbani birth date should have done the trick and tough her that he is a serious in relationship kind of guy who prioritize family ofcourse he has a good childhood without any burden bt yess.

Then in 2nd part Daksh friends warns her to not lead him yet she still leads him on. Even after she broke up with Vicky she decided to not be in relationship and enjoy her freedom yet that very same day she leads on Daksh and get intimate knowing too well he is serious when he proposed.

Then when she was in relationship and get pregnant I get it she didn't wanted kid. But she should have convinced Daksh and tried to talk it out and be on same page before doing it that too with the help of a guy with who you had intimate relations once too bad. No one would have forgiven that. She actually disrespected and disregarded Daksh and the fact that he has a part in that baby too.

That being said I think getting abortion was the practical thing she just needed to make him see her pov or she should have trusted him a little more.

And ofcourse in 3rd part when she thinks he moved on and seeing someone else with the soft gaze and playing like a happy family with someone else she realized she wanted Daksh.

Also her love for Daksh feels superficial it feels more like lust than love and same goes for Daksh.

Now comes to Daksh charater.

I didn't like him in first part. As someone who doesn't believe in love at first sight. Daksh charater feels like he only cares for looks.
He had a rift with his That time GF sameeksha and within a day he started liking Anchal because she was super beautiful like any other parameter doesn't matter but at the age of 18 I didn't expect anything.

In 2nd part when in jis birthday speech he turn to anchal he tells her how beautiful she is and she is the most beautiful girl she ever met. Daksh stalked her LinkedIn profile for 3 years how he fulfilled all her dreams yet beauty was the only thing that describes Anchal for Daksh.

When he proposed Anchal and she refused he rushed her to be in relationship knowing too well that it's not been 24 hours that she has broken up with her abusive boyfriend and might need time.

What Anchal did was wrong but what about him.
Anchal didn't like kids he knew that and he also knew that for Anchal her career is so important and everyone knows that in workplace women don't get treated equally as men so a 9 months break in the start of her career is a big deal specially when he has to take care of her sister too. But he refused to listen to her logical points. She did told him she wanted abortion and wanted him to be her support but because he thinks what he thinks is right he refused to understand her because he wanted his idea of love what he wants not what the love of his love wants. I think even after Anchal would have given birth they would have broken up at some point if they were real charaters.

And in the third part in hospital through video camera he still thinks how much he loves Anchal but feel the need to be with someone like a family so he proposed Amruta like he doesn't even have same feeling for her which is so so so wrong. I think if you are marring someone you should love them fully 100% not because you want a family they they seem right even when you are in love with someone else.

I think both Daksh and Anchal does not love each other it was just lust because when you love someone his/her happiness is everything. But in their case both of them were chasing their own idea of love without trying to understand other person or reading to sacrifice their own idea of love and future for other person. They just want to sleep with each other which is not exactly love.

This book was interesting from initial chapters cause the whole vacation scene and the way they had won it was nostalgic as during those time we used to find such offers in Big Bazaar.

The storyline surely makes you curious as what will happen next but it won't hide the fact that there's so many things wrong with this book.

Firstly the usage of abusive words that too in full form sometimes translated most time used. I don't like this cause i feel books are a way to enhance vocabulary not learn abusive words. Also i am reading another book of this author and guess what it contains the same thing. Such things are disturbing for readers like me and honestly make it difficult to read the book.

Secondly the s** scenes and Obsession. I don't get why such authors are so obsessed with these talks and think its the only way people live trust me i have seen decent and mature people too i understand its a part of life or whatsoever but the way the author emphasis in it scares me cause i feel its his inner thought speaking which is obscene and weird like hell. There's a way to write or describe intimate scenes and most of Indian authors lacks that they made it seem something wrong and dirty. Litreally hate this aspect of the book.

Thirdly objectifying women in the whole book and made it seem like its only the societies thinking but i feel its the writer's thinking too.

Storyline :-

Its story about Aanchal - an ambitious girl who can litreally do anything for her career and her family's happiness.
Daksh - a carefree guy who had to bear the burden of responsibility suddenly leaving him depressed and lost at the same time.
An accident change his life leaving him to care for his younger sister and father who lost a leg and will power to live.

These two meet on a vacation and the girl thinks the guy is her lucky charm.
They formed a bond in the vacation but despite exchanging contact number never connected for 4 years.

There's this scene where Aanchal in order to persue her boyfriend Vicky to talk to her (he was not talking to her cause she gets more % than him) send him her obscene photos. Here its something which happens a lot and girls in order to save relationship do such thing leading to what happens ahead in the story.

Cut to 4 years now both of the main characters life has took a drastic change Aanchal has fulfilled her dream and now her family is no more poor they live in 3 BHK on the other hand Daksh is living a life of struggle.

Despite showing Aanchal as smart independent woman the fact that she gave up in front of Vicky's threat of leaking her photos was hard to digest it does not make sense as she had the power to file a complaint against him.
In order to show an abusive relationship the author did not use his mind.
At the end Vanita a friend of Aanchal help her to get out of that toxic relationship and the end convo was absurd.

After 3 years

Aanchal's brother is a succesful YouTuber all with the help of Daksh . We got to know that both A & D were in 43 days relationship and in between A aborted the child cause she did not want to become a mother at the age of 23 which gave Daksh all the right to degrade her. This point had been used as a suspense and twist of the book which seems absurd as young age pregnancy is not something everyone wants its her body and choice so making a big deal out of it seems stupidity.

Daksh found a potential partner and had feelings too so the author should had ended it then and there still he extend it and had released part 2.
Instead of focusing on showing the abuse part if he had wrote something related to character and story development then it would had been better.

Conclusion:-

What you shouldn't expect :-

Good story, good description or story and character development

What it contains :-

Abusive words, cliche story, cliff hanger and lots of mistakes i have even highlighted it.

Overall the authors fan can go for it as at this point you might be used to his writings and those who are new readers like me there's not much to see you don't necessarily have to read this..

I honestly don't know where to begin. This book has no substance. No sense of maturity between the characters. Like hello ?? Sitting down and having a meaningful conversation is also an option ??
But no all they do it yell at each other and cuss their entire family lineages out.

Having a toxic relationship is understandable. But how maturely a person deals with it and what beautiful lesson they take away from such a crappy thing in their lives is what makes or breaks a person.
And that arc of character development is severely lacking in this book.

The Vicky dude was disrespectful, yes. But what's more pathetic is Aanchal who legit put up with it for years brushing it off every single time with a sad excuse of him blackmailing her.

Not to mention the fact that he calls her and her bestfriend a whore and a slut every chance he gets. And yet she still never says a word and calls him Jaan. Her bestfriend even gets assaulted by one of his friends and yet our FMC dosent give stand up to him. He blackmails her with her nudes and she still stays silent.
The dudes mother calls her a slut and holds all the reins in her life and still Aanchal lives by the same pathetic life without fighting against it.

Her breaking free of all these societal norms and shackles and finding her true colors could have been the best thing that should have happened in the book but NOPE. nothingggg of that sort happens.

She cusses them out. She shit talks about them while being puppetted around by them. And then decides cheating is the better idea.

This book set back feminism by atleast 50 years

. Aanchals situation couldve been the perfect portayal of women empowerment if she stood up for herself and her dreams and broke all of societies norms about toxic masculinity. She had a weak weak weak character where she gave in to Vicky and his bullshit every single time. It was embarrassing to even read honestly.

And when it comes to our main character Daksh he is portrayed as a sweet charming mature person all along and then suddenly there's a time jump and he starts acting like a dick Outta nowhere. Yelling in her face and calling her selfish for wanting to abort an accidental pregnancy when she KEEPS SAYING OVER AND OVER that she isn't mentally or physically or even financially ready for it.
Not to mention the fact that she just had a horrible breakup not even a month ago. But no he dosent give a fuck and berates her for it for a week not listening to her pov. And then proceeds to hate her for years afterwards when she finally gives up and takes the pill.

The Charming prince suddenly has a personality transplant to An utter disgusting piece of shit.

The writing is below average at best. No Character development.
The plot had so muchhhh potential but honestly it was so badly done. The inner monologue got so boring after a while.

She's too ambitious and isn't capable of emotional maturity.
He's too stuck in the past to ever forsee the possibility of a better future.
Both of them aren't capable of sitting down and talking shit out. Actually no one in the book is.
They all believe in yelling and talking shit like toddlers while turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to whatever the other person is saying.
This book has been the most dissapointing one I've read so far this year. I truly expected a joyride when I first began reading it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Meet Aanchal, an eighteen year old girl from Delhi who's only aim is to take admission in a reputed college of Commerce which will ensure her the best placement in coming future. A middle class girl who has everything planned for her journey towards success. On the other hand, Daksh is what most people would call - a spoiled brat, who lives with his parents in Dubai and is pursuing engineering - basically rich! They both happen to meet at a resort in the Andamans, and sparks start flying between them. It's mostly Daksh for the time being, and Aanchal, scared of betraying her boyfriend, Vicky, back in Delhi, makes herself believe that Daksh's more of a lucky charm, totally undermining the warm feelings developing roots deep inside her. This meet is short-lived and they both part ways soon just to realize that their lives will be turned upside down.

They meet yet again four years later, though coincidentally - Daksh who has now moved to Mumbai and is living as a run-down, and Aanchal who is in an abusive relationship has come to Mumbai for a conference. What happened to Daksh and his family? How did Aanchal end up in an abusive relationship? Will the sparks that flew four years back fly again? Will anything at all happen? Grab a copy to read this story about family values, careers, relationships (esp. the toxic ones), love, and freedom.

World’s Worst Best Girlfriend is my first Durjoy Datta's book. Having heard of praises about Datta's romance works, I picked this book up. And I must say, the praises are well-deserved. His storytelling skills are commendable. How our protagonists fiercely fight their way back to a life they aspired for has been very well described. The characters are well developed and are relatable.

Even though the plot is predictable at many instances, the well reaserched and smooth flowing writing format keeps the reader glued to the pages. The author's efforts in delivering the best narration is very well evident owing to the fact that everything circles back at appropriate times and starts making sense, not letting even the minutest of the detail mentioned in the text go unattended. It's a short story, can be finished in one sitting.

One last thing. No doubt that the author's writing skills are top-notch, however a wiser take on the use of expletives and obscenities was expected from his part, especially when his readers are mostly teens or young adults.

From freeloader in Andman's most luxurious hotel to deserving executive job, Aanchal Madan is an ambitious young lady who manages to find a way to fall in love despite the walls she builds around her. Despite being perfect in every way, Daksh could never comprehend one simple truth: love cannot conquer everything. The story runs deep when you read it, it takes you to places like Andaman and Dubai, teaches you so much about vacation love and practicalities of our lives, as well as how one moment of distress can change everything and how indecisiveness can break you down slowly. This book doesn't tell the story you don't know, but it takes you on a journey to self-realisation of what really matters. Despite the fact that there is still one more part to follow, the book gives you a good idea what to expect in the next book. Durjoy's specialty is twists and turns and unpredictability of characters and situations, and he has done it again this time.
Let’s look at some rapid fire questions to review this book completely
1. Did this book seem realistic?
Yes very much in fact you can relate to it completely.

2. How well do you think the author built the world in the book?
Loved the way it is described. The characters are typical youth of our time and their emotions are real and authentic.

3. Did the characters seem believable to you?
Yes all characters and natural and believable.

4. Did the book’s pace seem too fast/too slow/just right?
The book is too fast I think. Some part can be elaborated for long but considering the fact that there is one more part of this book it seems fair to finish this one in 243 pages.

5. What did you like best about this book?
The way writer Durjoy Datta build up the story and maintained the interest of readers till the end. He captured the emotions very well and portrayed it with ease.

6. What did you like least about this book?
Well nothing much but somewhere in between it felt like depth is missing in story telling. Conversations could be elaborated to establish type of relations between characters.

7. Which characters in the book did you like best?
I like Daksh off course for his perfection and Aanchal for her honesty.

8. Which characters did you like least?
Vicky for obvious reasons but he too played his part to move forward the story.

In the past few years, I’ve gravitated more towards Historical Fiction and Period genres, but when I picked up World's Best Girlfriend by Durjoy Datta, I realized how much I missed reading Romance Fiction. After finishing this book, I became even more certain that Bengali authors, especially Durjoy Datta, have a unique way of capturing the essence of romance in India.

The story follows Aanchal Madan and Daksh Dey, two people who meet at a luxurious resort in the Andamans. Their connection is instant, but their lives and goals are vastly different. Aanchal is driven, determined to escape her lower-middle-class background and build a better future, while Daksh is more focused on living in the moment, with little direction. Unlike most love stories, Aanchal and Daksh’s relationship isn’t just about overcoming obstacles to live happily ever after; their pasts and dreams for the future constantly pull them in opposite directions, and that’s where the conflict lies.

What I loved most about this book was how practical the story felt. Durjoy has beautifully blended love with the realities of professional life, showing how both can affect one another. The story spans years, with the characters evolving, and then fate bringing them together again. Despite the connection, their differences still pull them apart.

Aanchal’s character is so well-written—she’s both vulnerable and strong, ambitious yet yielding, always trying and sometimes giving up. Daksh, on the other hand, evolves from a carefree young man into a more responsible adult, and this transition feels so real. It’s something we all go through as we grow.

This isn’t just a love story—it’s about life, the challenges of adulting, and how love fits into it all. Durjoy Datta does an excellent job of portraying all these aspects. The end of Part 1 doesn’t have a cliffhanger, which I actually liked—it was wise and logical. But, of course, I’m still eagerly waiting for what happens next in Aanchal and Daksh’s journey.

The way their relationship unfolds feels so realistic, and the chemistry between them is palpable. Fate has brought them together, but what happens when they take control of their own destiny? It’s a story of love, life, and everything in between.

What will you do if fate has a different kind of love planned for you? Daksh and Aanchal keep meeting each other under different circumstances time after time. Aanchal is focused on her career and doesn't want to give relationships another chance while Daksh is burdened with taking care of his sick father and six year old sister with little time for anything else. But when fates make their paths cross this time they have decided to take matters into their hands.
The story of Daksh and Aanchal felt relatable to me in many ways. From Aanchal trying to break the shackles of her middle class existence to Daksh finding his purpose in life, it shows how much the author has worked on each aspect of the story to make it real for the reader. Each aspect from going on a family trip, to meeting new people there, getting attracted to them, feeling lost in your life, feeling out of place in a group full of people, getting your heart broken and not being able to get away from abusive and toxic relationship and expecting that red flag to turn green someday, the story covers many more such relatable aspects woven into an engaging story.

The writing style is lucid and helps you flow through the book real quick. I completed the book within 2 sittings. That's how engrossed I was in Daksh and Aanchal. I have all books by Durjoy except the last 2 books that came before this and I have always loved how I always find myself too wrapped in the story.

Daksh's character is one of the biggest green flag characters I have read about recently and what's not to love about this guy?
Aanchal on the other hand is a girl who many of us would relate to from trying to give better things to your parents to trying to get out of a toxic relationship but not being able to because it involves your parents. Both the characters are well thought and developed throughout the book. Not just the main characters but the side characters complement each other to give the reader a relatable experience.

The way the book has ended has left me really excited for the sequel. Waiting to read it and know if it does unfold as I'm guessing or not.

In the last few years, I shifted my reading toward Historical Fictions and Period genres, but when I picked this book by the author a few days back, I realized how much I missed reading Romance Fiction. After reading this book, I became even more sure why I liked Bengali Babu’s writing about Romance fiction in India the most.

Aanchal Madan and Daksh Dey, are two people who met on the posh resort of Andamans. A vibe between the two was instantly matched. The former is constantly trying to make big out of her lower-middle-class lifestyle & building a richer future and the latter is lost in his own world & living the present. Unlike most love stories, A & D didn’t just click together, overcome a few obstacles, and live happily after; rather they had a past and a dream for a future completely different from each other and that was the crack in the wall from where the biggest break happened.

I loved how practical this story is, Durjoy sir created a perfect combination of love life & professional life and how they affect each other. The story takes leaps of years and shows the characters doing different things in their life and then fate brings them together, again they feel a strong connection with each other and yet again their differences pulls them apart.

A’s character is beautifully portrayed, she is vulnerable and strong, ambitious and yielding, she is trying and giving up, and she is choosing between her and her love. D’s character is polite and loving, there’s a circumstantial shift between how that aimless boy turns into a responsible young man. And isn’t that what life does to all of us?

This romance fiction is much more than a love story, the author brought out all the aspects of life that come with being in love, specifically adulting, in one story and how marvelously he did that. Part-1 didn’t actually end on a cliff, I honestly liked the end, it was wise and logical, but I am still waiting for what fate brings in the lives of Aanchal and Daksh

Durjoy Datta's "World's Best Girlfriend" is a compelling tale of love, destiny, and the complexities of modern relationships. The story revolves around Daksh and Aanchal, two individuals from contrasting backgrounds whose lives intertwine in unexpected ways.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Andamans, the novel initially portrays Aanchal's aspiration to break free from her lower middle-class upbringing and Daksh's uncertainty about his future. Their first encounter at a luxurious resort sparks an undeniable attraction, setting the stage for a love story filled with twists and turns.

Datta skillfully weaves their journeys over four years, during which Daksh's life is burdened by familial responsibilities, including caring for his ailing father and young sister. Despite the odds stacked against them, their connection deepens, highlighting the resilience of their love.

The author employs vivid descriptions and evocative prose to capture the emotional turmoil of his characters. Daksh's internal struggle between his responsibilities and his desire for Aanchal is particularly well-portrayed, creating a sense of empathy for the characters.

The novel's strength lies in its exploration of how fate and destiny can shape the course of our lives. As Daksh and Aanchal decide to take control of their destinies, readers are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Will they be able to shape their own future, or will external forces intervene?

While "World's Best Girlfriend" offers a gripping narrative, it also delves into the complexities of modern relationships and the sacrifices individuals are willing to make for love. Datta's writing style is engaging, and he successfully keeps readers invested in the outcome of Daksh and Aanchal's love story.

In a nutshell, Durjoy Datta's "World's Best Girlfriend" is a captivating romance novel that explores the enduring power of love in the face of adversity. With well-developed characters, a compelling plot, and beautiful prose, it is a must-read for fans of contemporary romance fiction.

The storyline of this book is perfect,Engaging novel that explores the complexities of relationships and the power of true love. how a person can be the strength for someone without even being present there. How it wretchs your heart even when you didn't want to fall for a person. A romance novel with a lot of twists, which has some spicness into it too , as an indian you'll relate to the native words which has been used, the rage, the pain everything you will be able to feel, which will keep you hooked to know what happens next!
DD did it again, his novels are such light reads and interesting that it can make a non-reader hooked to the habit of reading!
RIGHT PERSON WRONG TIME 🤐

There are two different story when two people drifted apart, the dumpee will tell the pain he/she had to go through, the dumper will try to prove you wrong, never judge a person without listening to others.

This book is written about the friendship, love, and relationships of Daksh and Aanchal. The story is beautifully woven, and every character is well placed. Aanchal is an ambitious girl who wants to achieve a lot at a very young age. She has a boyfriend named Vicky, and their relationship is toxic in some way, eventually, she meets Daksh on her lucky draw trip to Andaman, who is an upper-middle-class Dubai resident and is handsome and responsible, just like every girl wants. Their story begins from there. After 4 years of the trip, when they meet again, Daksh has changed a lot, but Aanchal comes back into his life. However, Aanchal, being an ambitious girl, chooses her career over love. Daksh, being Gaurav's business partner, couldn't be with her , but no one can deny the feelings right?? Three years later, when they meet again at Aanchal's friend Vinneta's wedding, the story takes a new turn. DD has ended the story in suspense, so we have to wait for the next part to know what happens. There is also a new character in this story, Amruta Thakur, who is Daksh's close friend in the end, or maybe something more

I'm eagerly waiting for the second part of this book 😭

Must Read!!

Like all his previous books I too liked this one. The story got me hooked from the first chapter itself. the characters are perfectly described, the chapter ends with the link to the next chapter, and tbh the book transferred me to a different realm.

The story is beautifully woven, and every character is well placed. Aanchal is an ambitious girl who wants to achieve a lot at a very young age. She has a boyfriend named Vicky, and their relationship is sometimes good and sometimes very bad.

Eventually, she meets Daksh on her lucky draw trip to Andaman, who is an upper-middle-class Dubai resident and is handsome and responsible, just like every girl wants. Their story begins from there. After 4 years of the trip, when they meet again, Daksh has changed a lot, but Aanchal comes back into his life.

However, Aanchal, being an ambitious girl, chooses her career over love. Daksh, being Gaurav's business partner, cannot completely sever their connection. Three years later, when they meet again at Aanchal's friend Vinneta's wedding, the story takes a new turn. Durjoy has ended the story in suspense, so we have to wait for the next part to know what happens. Durjoy did and amazing job characterising everybody in the book and made it feel real and so relatable.

I REALLY HOPE THE ENDING IS NOT THE END. Very beautifully written characters and very beautifull story. Can't wait for the second part.❤❤ Having heard of praises about Datta's romance works,So you Should picked this book up. And I must say, the praises are well-deserved. His storytelling skills are commendable. There’s something about Durjoy’s books that keep us glued together with the characters and going places with them.

This is one such book that dwells with the daily life and struggles of two individuals destined for each other. Although the book leaves us in a cliffhanger, I’m deeply enthralled to read further. If you like his other works, then go for it, you will not regret it. And if this is going to be his first book that you are going to read, then go for it.

World’s Best Girlfriend is the story of Aanchal Madan and Daksh Dey, from when they meet by chance at a luxurious resort, all the way to a time in their lives when both of them have grown and shoulder more responsibility. Told from the point of view of both Daksh and Aanchal, the book deals with the manner in which they try to find their way to each other, while also navigating many other aspects of their own life, like family and profession. The book is more than just your normal ‘boy meets girl, falls in love, faces many issues but still ends up with girl’ story and definitely not a cliché type of a romantic tale.

Books that fall in the romance genre is something I don’t reach for often, but have always been curious about. When it came to this book, while I may have been sceptical of it being just another cliché, my scepticism definitely vanished as I progressed further and further into it. It became very clear that it was not a love story that you could easily predict, but one with its own twists and turns, and ups and downs. While the characters are well crafted, it’s the character of Daksh I liked the most. He is lovable, practical and just plain ‘fictional boyfriend goals’. Despite the fact that the book deals with some heavier topics like toxic and abusive relationships, some really tragic family events, etc., it still remains an overall light read. I was definitely engrossed in the story and although there’s a very small portion of it which was smutty (which I personally don’t prefer), I found myself wanting to read more and more. The climax is something I liked and was also taken aback by, and it’s safe to say it did have the desired impact on me. The book is definitely different when you compare it to an average fairy tale of a romance and if you’re looking for a fast paced and a slightly unique type of romance book to pick up, this one’s for you!

"𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀. 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀."

"𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻. 𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁."

Oh Boy, this book was way different than what I expected. It took me on a rollercoaster, leaking out emotions of memories I have tried hard to tamp down and I really needed time to process this book.

The unnerving bit is, this doesn't feel like a romance at all. It's more about two individuals who are twisted due to their circumstances, how they process their trauma and how their relationship pans out due to their lives over ten years.

Aanchal and Daksh, I seriously don't know what to feel about them, not in a bad way though, more like I get where they come from, why they feel those feelings which are creating conflicts between them. See, them as individuals acing their traumas in their own way is superb, but when it comes to the relationship, I seriously dont know which side to pick as it feels like I need to pick a side, confusing right ?

Let me throw some light more, Anchal had to face bad luck in financial success, so she needed to push herself to keep growing so that it didn't happen again, whereas Daksh is love at his core. He is more focused on connections than success. So you get what I mean, hopefully.

I was immediately hooked to their connection than 'relationship' because it was a beautiful one before it got weird. I was flabbergasted with the ending. I really hope their story gets a proper closure.

To be honest, I have never felt invested in any romance like this for a while, so this says something.
Again, the author bowls me over with the reality concept because you know life is not a bed of roses.

I can go on and on, but I loved the book period.

Book Recommendation - Hell Yeah.

This was one of the most anticipated romance books of 2023, World's (Worst) Best Girlfriend by Durjoy Dutta. This book surely takes readers on an emotional coaster journey where Achal (FMC) and Daksh (MMC) are teenagers and meet on the island of Andaman. Achal and Daksha are poles apart, Daksh comes from a wealthy family and resides in Dubai along with his parents and a younger sibling. Achal comes from a very middle-class family who has never been on a holiday. Her only aim is to crack a competitive exam secure a good placement for a better future and be financially independent. No matter how different their lifestyle or thinking is, they connected instantly. They ended up having a major crush on each other.
This book on the other side also shares an intriguing side of a toxic relationship that Achal shares with her boyfriend, Vicky.

Honestly, this is the most realistic romance book I have read this year, The Author has tried hard to keep Vicky and Achal's relationship real with the toxicity, gaslighting, swearing, and a clingy mother-in-law somewhere I felt over the course of time Achal turned a big red flag. I liked her in Part 1, she was likable, ambitious, and true to herself but in Parts 2 and Part 3, she was a toxic red flag. I started disliking her.

I would have enjoyed this book better if the plot wasn't so predictable & the thing that I absolutely dislike whether in books or in real life is cheating, whatever the reason is, it is a toxic partner or emotionally unavailable partner. I absolutely dislike it.

Overall, I am still excited about book 2 cause I want to know what happened between the two. I recommend this book to readers out there who love realistic romance books set in India and are okay with the trigger warnings.

3.5 I just finished the book. At first, I thought it would be a continuation of Dhruv and Aranya’s story, but it turned out to be a completely separate story.

As I started reading, it felt light and enjoyable—like those summer vacation love stories. Daksh and Aanchal come across as teenagers who make mistakes, which feels relatable because, honestly, not everyone has it all figured out by the time they’re 20. Their flaws make them more believable, even if I don’t exactly approve of all their choices.

Then came the second part of the story. I found myself starting to like Daksh more, but I really started to dislike Aanchal—even more than I expected. She’s beautiful, smart, successful, and independent, but unfortunately, she’s not a nice person. She seems to be one of those people who expects everything from everyone without wanting to give anything in return. If someone wants to live that way, I think they should stay fully independent and not involve others in their life. Honestly, I could go on, but I don’t want this review to turn into an essay about my frustration with Aanchal!

I won’t spoil the ending, but I found myself hoping it wouldn’t be a happy one for her. I’d love for Daksh to realize that there’s more to life than beauty and that kindness is far more important. After all, if someone can leave you once, they could do it again.

Overall, I liked the book, even if I’m left with a bit of a heavy feeling because of how much I ended up disliking Aanchal. The writing is accessible, though there are plenty of explicit scenes that might make you cringe at times. The story is well thought out, with a few parts that I genuinely hope never happen to anyone in real life.

"World's Worst Best Girlfriend" is a compelling tale of one of a kind love story of Aanchal and Daksh. It revolves around love, friendships, family and fate.

The book begins with a meet cute between Dakash and Aanchal, in the scenic land of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Aanchal has high aspirations and wants to break free of their current financial situation while Daksh has no idea about his future and just going with the flow. They have very different perspective of life.

The story is stretched in the course of 4 years. We go from seeing them teenagers to being adults and how that changes a lot around them. The author's writing is very comprehensive and he has crafted very realistic characters with emotional complexities. The author has conveyed his message that if you are meant to be together, then you will always find each other back. We see the characters' dilemma of choosing between love and their aspirations.

Life isn't always how it's supposed to be and Daksh and Aanchal surf through the diversities and complexities of life. This book was a roller coaster of emotions. At one point, you'd get their perspectives and one point you'd hate the characters for the choices they make. The book is in dual perspective so it makes it more interesting to read.

The ending left me hanging, it took a swift turn from the way I wanted it to end. I need the sequel ASAP.

I loved reading this book. The author has managed to good a great job at portraying the "want to hate you but can't" trope. Highly recommend this book, even if you're not a romance reader you should read it.
