What was Tony thinking?

Control? Acquisition? Domination? Love? Behind His Eyes - Consequences explores significant scenes as well as behind-the-scenes moments from the first book of the Consequences series.

Not a total re-write, this companion explores the mind of the man who thought he set the rules and delivered the consequences.

From the beginning.

Anthony Rawlings has the perfect world: money, influence, and power. Everything in his life is and has always been planned, executed, and predicted... until Claire. How long can he deny what is right before him? Experience the rare opportunity to see this esteemed man’s world change, from behind his eyes.

It is always darkest before the light.

Through significant scenes, experience the dark journey into the mind of the man who believes that he controls everything yet controls nothing. Share his thoughts as glitches are overcome and accidents are survived.

For the avid reader of the Consequences series, it is recommended that this companion be read after Consequences, Truth, Convicted, and Revealed for more insight into the man who:

“Once upon a time, she signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule. He forgot to read the fine print. This is an ABSOLUTE MUST READ for the fans of the series!

Being inside Tony's head was just as I imagined ... a little bit disturbing yet super sad at the same time. The constant struggle that goes on in his mind between his feelings and what he thinks is the right thing to do ... it was very emotional, to say the least. I don't remember 'Consequences' drawing these kinds of feelings out of me but reading about Claire's reactions to some of the things Tony does to her when told from his POV made me cry several times.

'Truth' is my favorite book in this trilogy so to say I can't wait for the next book would be an understatement!

Till then ... xo

***No plot spoilers for the series... This review is my feelings about the man that is, Tony Rawlings, and my thoughts about Behind His Eyes.

"Behaviors have consequences."
*Goosebumps*

Once upon a time, a man signed a napkin, that he knew was a contract.....

For Tony lovers out there, and I know there are many, this book is a dream, an absolute MUST READ. RIGHT NOW!!! So that’s what I did….. Good grief… Tony????

"What were her limits?"
"Could she be broken?"

Behind his eyes should be read only after you've read and enjoyed the ENTIRE Consequences series..... It's a, 'dark journey into the mind,' of Tony Rawlings and it's not always pretty, but going into this read, reading the opening intro, the author gave me goose bumps.... That's her genius. If you've not experienced this series... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

I’m one of those people who loved Tony from the start. His charisma, charm, and power. The way he spoke, the way I thought he felt….????? I didn’t always like what he did, sometimes it was abhorrent but I think, personally, I was always looking for the good in his actions, for reasons why??? Some things, of course, could not be explained but Tony had worked his way into my book heart, good and proper… I wanted him to come through as the person I believed him deep down to be.

"He no longer wanted to dominate but satisfy."

Who suffered consequences? Even he can’t control everything!!!
I love a book that emotes such strong feelings.

Reading this book opened my eyes once again and reminded me of a few things.... Tony is a controlling delusional bastard but I can't help but give love, love, love and show him understanding???

Behind His Eyes, his point of view, is at times, tough to read… Dark... Uncomfortable... Gave me that sinking feeling of dread. It shows Tony's true inner thoughts, and inner thoughts cannot be prettied up, they are what they are. Tony showed me exactly how controlling, devious, manipulative and how down right ruthless he is…..... I also still saw the vulnerable side… I swear it’s there, the side that cannot believe someone can love him as he is..… He just needs to listen to, and believe in the right people.

There are scenes that are especially difficult, you know them, if you've read the series….. Knowing the outcome, the conclusions of this complex story makes everything somehow more poignant and, sometimes, more agonising .To be honest, rather than angry they made me so desperately sad and stomach churning. This is their journey and we need to experience it all.

The brilliance of the Aleatha Romig.
She's created a world with a web so amazingly spun it's truly awe inspiring; her mind is amazing... This series has so much more depth and story to it than I could have imagined when I began the Consequences reading journey. For me, this series will continue to be a MUST READ RIGHT NOW!!! ♥ And I urge all Tony lovers to do the same and not miss out on a single, enlightening moment ♥

"You have been dismissed."

The power of Tony

4 I STILL heart Tony stars!

description

This was not designed as a retell of the entire novel CONSEQUENCES from Anthony Rawlings’ perspective and as such, will not make sense on it’s own. It was meant to share significant scenes and behind-the-scenes information.

A warning from the author- Basically, if you haven’t read the Consequences series, you should not read this book until you first read the original series! How many of us hated Tony after Consequences? I grew to love Tony more and more after reading each book. I am proudly Team Tony, but after reading the first book, my feelings were mixed. I hated him a lot of this book and wondered WTF he was thinking. I did grow to love him in Truth, and even more in Convicted. Well, now I know WTF he was thinking in some parts at least. This isn’t a total rehashing of Consequences, but we get many of the key scenes from Tony’s perspective.

It was a basic psychology: operant conditioning- positive consequences for positive behavior, negative consequences fro negative behavior.

I don’t really want to summarize this book. If you’ve read Consequences, you won’t need a summary. If you haven’t, you have to read it before even touching this. I’ll instead tell you how I felt about it. For the most part, I enjoyed reading this. There were a few parts that felt a little slow for me. This happens occasionally when I’m reading a companion novel. I miss the element of surprise, not knowing where the story it going. It was nice to get some new info, but I feel like we got a lot of the same as well. But, hey- getting more Tony is never a bad thing. It was still a good read for me. I loved getting more from Tony, and knowing what was going on with Catherine was even better. I’m really looking forward to see even more from Tony in Behind the Eyes: Truth!

5 "Back to Despising Tony" Stars (But a must read anyways)
 photo Pgbrf_zps752b4a31.gif

What can I say. I knew that reading this book would take me back the place when I was disturbed by reading Consequences (#1). I had to contact Aleatha about this evil man she created and then I had to read a happy book after reading Consequences because I was so upset. Then I went and read Truth and damn if Aleatha didn't turn my opinion of Tony around 360. Then she went and wrote Convicted and well.....Team Tony Forever.

I was leery about getting into Tony's head.

I love him now but I knew that I would go back to hating him too. I know that he had issues and was so messed up by his family but still, reading it through his eyes, brought me back to that place that I wanted to rip Tony apart and make him have his very own "accident". Reading how manipulative he was and how cold and callus he was brought back all those emotions of how much I loathed Tony Rawlings.

I do not like him,

All I can say is that I can't wait for BHE-Truth. I have said this once and I will say it again. Aleatha Romig is a fantastic author who wrote an AMAZING, CONVOLUTED, DIABOLICALLY WICKED, "LOVE" STORY.
Tony Rawlings, a man you hated and then learned to love and Claire Nichols, a woman who was so very strong even when at her weakest, a couple that will forever be one of my favorite couples.

Welcome to the Dark Side - Part 1

The tragic or the humorous is a matter of perspective (Arnold Beisser)

Definitely, true.

Maybe that it is why I caught myself smiling when I was reading this book. Guiltily smiling of course, but still I was smiling.

“The sun was setting and I was home.”
…..
“He didn’t respond. The silence grew. He wanted her. He wanted to tell her he was sorry –he overreacted- but that wasn’t him. He couldn’t.”

Anyhow, this is not a standalone book. It complements the book “Consequences”, the first book of the series.
So you know what you are getting: An invitation to the dark zone, inside the mind of Tony.
Still when I was reading the events of the “accident”, I freaked out once more.

But when I finished the book, I realized that I liked the combination:

Tony Rawlings=Sadist/Monster + Misguided/Fool and
Claire Nichols=Masochist/Martyr + Perceptive/Survivor

Subsequently this game of spirits calmed me, because I knew that Tony will realize in the end that KARMA IS A BITCH.

CONSEQUENCES FANS!!! This is Tony's POV!!

You’ve experienced the CONSEQUENCES, you’ve learned the TRUTH, now you know who was CONVICTED...the time has come to see it from TONY’S point of view!

Each novella will be a collection of significant scenes, from each book, of the CONSEQUENCES Series. These will not be full length novels and won’t retell the entire series—only significant scenes, and because you asked for it...Behind His Eyes will also contain timelines and family trees.

It has been said that to truly understand a person, one must walk a mile in their shoes. BEHIND HIS EYES will be the rare opportunity to step into Anthony Rawlings’ Gucci loafers and experience the Consequences from his perspective.

And here is the story told from Behind His Eyes...

Once upon a time, he signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule....he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn't an acquisition to own another person as he'd previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul.

Tony had been observing Claire from afar....and she was just another name on his list.... just a name...not a person. But she was different and he found himself drawn to her, wanting to know more...Claire was something of a fantasy....but then he remembered the promise he made to his grandfather....

"Not just them--hell no. They took away my world. They took my family. Their damn kids, their kids, and their kids' kids....they'll all face the consequences of their actions!"

The vendetta has become so consuming, and filled so much of him....it wasn't debatable; Tony's grandfathers wish would be fulfilled. Without fulfilling his wish, Anthony Rawlings would be incomplete.

love and hate quotes photo: Love, Hate 561.gif

"To know the rules of the game, you have to be educated."

"Failure is no more a permanent condition than success! For even if you succeed, there's still another test."

"For every promise, there is a price to pay."

"There is no such thing as an accident; it is fate misnamed."

"In nature there are neither rewards nor punishments; there are consequences."

"If a relationship is to evolve, it must go through a series of endings."

"Consequence are unpitying."

And how i felt by the middle of the book....

anger gifs photo: punch tumblr_kqf9r7MHP11qzxzwwo1_400.gif

Twenty-two months ago, when HE brought Claire to his home, Tony didn't KNOW what to expect. he never in a million years planned to HAVE feelings for her--she WAS the enemy, a Nichols. He fought those feelings with all he had. He'd NEVER admit it to anyone, but in a significant way, Claire was HIS biggest success and his biggest failure. He'd brought her to Iowa to PAY the penance of her family's sins, but during her sentence she'd him over. He'd CHANGED her, but SHE'D changed him, too.

One day her little reprieve would be over, and she'd be free--free from the state of Iowa, that was, but NEVER from him.
Tony could promise that!
Above anything else, Anthony Rawlings was a man of his word.

This is the Consequences story told from Tony's POV....so if you haven't read this book series yet, I highly recommend it. You will experience every emotion from reading this.....hate, love, shock, anger, sadness, hope....you name it! Tony can have you loving him one minute and then wanting to rip his face off the next....but i really really enjoyed this roller coaster and can't wait for more in the next 2 books. Thank you Aleatha for giving us more TONY! xo

3.5 ★'s

*Warning - before reading this book, make sure that you have read the first three books of the series as this book is full of spoilers!*

So, obviously, this is Tony's POV for Consequences. As is mentioned, it's not really a full book but a companion. If you were to read this book, you would be confused. Especially because it's told in coordinating chapters and not all the chapters are included.

I'm also not doing a "regular" review. If you want that, you can check the reviews for Consequences. I'm just going to highlight a few points.

There are a few new things but the same basic story. The main point is getting to know the real Tony. I knew this book would be tough...I just was not prepared for how cruel Tony really is.

One of the problems is that by reading the three prior books, you get to see the changes and if you're not Team Tony, well, you've probably soften a bit. I know that's my case.

description

Let's face it...Tony is effed up. I would really love a book about what happened to him. I know we get some flash backs and of course, he has his vendetta but he is really messed up beyond that. It really makes me question how it was possible for him to really change.

My heart still went out for Claire even more so than it did before. To read about her hope and then to read all Tony's machinations was really depressing!

And let's not even get started with Catherine! I think the one thing that was a little surprising was how much she played Tony. He really had no idea.

I wasn't naive, I knew it would be hard to read but I still wanted to and I'm glad I did. But I'm REALLY glad it's over though and I'm looking forward to the next books.

I don't know how to put my feelings into words here! There were too many emotions, too many thoughts running through my head while reading this!

Anthony Rawlings was a total psycho! Reading this book reminded me of how much I hated him in Consequences. I can still remember how Claire was feeling, hopeless and helpless. Even though this is his POV, I couldn't be sure and felt a little confused on whether he really loved her or not. Of course, I know he said he loved her but seemed like he had always had some plans to test and prove her obedience. Would she be happy with this kind of love? I didn’t know. I wasn't even sure if this 'affection' came from his true feelings for her or it was just because he used to her. I felt so sad for Claire.

He’d brought her to Iowa to pay the penance of her family’s sins, but during her sentence she’d won him over. Oh, he’d changed her, but she’d changed him, too. He was no longer her warden but her husband. In essence, she’d derailed his plans.

The ending was great. Thankfully Claire wasn’t completely brainwashed!

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!!
ugh I thought book one was painful enough to read but reading it in Tony's POV was grittier and edgier even if its only taken parts from book one. Especially the "accident" and the "coffee" scenes, his actions or rather I say reactions after the consequences was made both were a test of his feelings towards Claire. And damn as much as reliving it all over again "behind his eyes" and finding out what he was really thinking, was hard to swallow.
The deceit, the manipulation, the domination together with those emotions he felt towards Claire (*is there a point that he really did felt love towards Claire? oh I was blinded with rage grrr I don't know, well maybe on some point!*)as he fight his wills not to fall for her and let his revenge take over and fulfill his promise.
I'm excited for the next book. Can't wait what he thinks over Claire's new found freedom and love? yep definitely wanted to see him jealous over the other men with Claire:)

*4.5 "Tony's a naughty boy" stars*

bhe2

Well, where do I begin? BHE is a companion to Consequences, the first book in the Consequences series. Told exclusively in his POV and certain scenes, Tony is a man to be feared. Despite knowing many of the outcomes that took place in Consequences, re-reading these scenes through his perspective was titillating and terrifying.

bhe

One moment Tony was a monster...
"That scream told Anthony that she understood her behavior was unacceptable. He wanted more."

and the next he was a charmer...
It was as he handed Claire a glass of champagne that his anxiety began to wane. He saw in her eyes-those green eyes-her unfulfilled need for his approval. This time, he smiled and whispered in her ear, "You are truly lovely tonight."

Behind His Eyes brought me right back to the pain, anger, and absolute hate I felt for Tony in the beginning of this series. I was captivated. Terrified. And highly entertained.

Behind His Eyes- Consequences, what can I say but I loved it... Ms. Romig did an amazing job giving us Tony's POV. Are Tony's action right and justifiable? Absolutely not, but Ms. Romig allows readers to get a better understanding of Tony and how his childhood had shaped and molded him into thinking the way he did. Yes, Tony was meticulous and filled with vengeance... Hate him, Love him, Pity him...either way Tony never said he was perfect. He was raw, honest, vengeful, filled with hate and anger, and with Claire we got to see how Claire slowly invaded his heart and mind. For all you Consequences fans, Behind his Eyes is a must companion novel...loved that we were able to read Tony's thoughts and get his perspective. I can't wait for Behind His Eyes-Truth where readers can finally see Tony's loving and caring side that Claire brings out.

Well, this book had me pulling my hair out and screaming like a crazy person. I'm really shocked that my Kindle survived. I'm surprised at how strongly this book effected me, seeing as how, I have read Consequences three times and knew all that was going to happen. Tony's mind is a crazy, complicated place. It was interesting to get a glimpse inside his head, to see his POV, and to understand the emotions behind the outrageous actions a little better. I liked how this reading companion didn't retell the entire story, but touched on the major parts of Consequences. This book was written very well and I cannot wait for the next two books to be released. This is an interesting read, to say the least.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS!!!!

Being able to go back into certain sections of Consequences and seeing everything from Tony’s POV truly is Intense. We do not get the whole book again, what Aleatha has done is given us the truly important sections out of Consequences through Tony’s eye’s. It was great to get some answers to some of my questions I had and wondered what Tony was thinking when he did that.

I hated him in Consequences, began to love him in Truth and was rooting for him in Convicted. Now I am back to hating him again. Is that even possible? Damn right it is. Tony is one sly evil man. He is manipulative, he is stealthy, he is downright all for himself in this book. I read it firsthand now. We all know by the end of all of this I will love him again, but right now I strongly dislike him.

You know what to expect with each scene because we have read Consequences, but seeing it again through Tony’s eyes makes it a little bit more terrifying. I definitely felt everything all over again while reading this companion book.

The intensity with seeing how much he enjoyed the fact that he OWNED Claire, truly was creepy. He enjoyed taunting her, pushing limits with her.

“Anthony Rawlings did not fail… He would teach Claire that there were consequences.”

Claire, we all felt for her in Consequences. Going through these scenes again with Claire, brought back all my heartfelt worry for her. She did not know which way to go, what was going to happen next at any one moment in time. You feel the intensity of Tony with her throughout the whole story all over again.

Was she truly that strong? What were her limits? Could she be broken?

Seeing the parts that Catherine played in this one also answered some questions I had as well. You get to see exactly what Catherine thinks and more about the whole situation with Tony kidnapping Claire. Throughout the whole story you know she is truly only out for one thing and there is not changing Catherine.

"Months ago, he's taken a strong woman and refined her. Tony supposed it was like the process with gold, where excessive heat removed impurities. In his process, he'd taken Claire into the fire and come away with the perfect companion - wife? Without planning to do so, he and Catherine had created the perfect Mrs. Rawlings."

I cannot wait for the next one to get in touch with Tony some more. Coming soon Behind His Eyes - Truth and Behind His Eyes - Convicted

Let me say that I LOVE this series, so the comments below should be taken for what they are, knowing that I still loved this book and cannot wait for the next one.

With that being said, I was surprised that Tony didn't reveal a more human side. Even though he clearly has some BIG psychological issues, which are made apparent right from the start of the series, it didn't expect him to be quite so diabolical. I expected more empathy and internal conflict, I guess. I wanted to see that deep down he had more love for Claire, even if he did these terrible things. The book went into that very little, and I wanted more. After all, it was the belief that he was torn apart inside that made him likable despite his actions all throughout this series. I expected to like him more, but instead ended up liking him less and am now questioning his sincerity and remorse in Truth and Convicted. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I also would have liked to heard more about what was going on during a few important parts that were not elaborated on. I was dying to read what was going through his mind while Claire was unconscious following her "accident". I also wanted to know what was going on in his mind during her recovery period, when it was questionable whether or not he had broken her spirit. His thoughts during and after Simon's funeral were also skimmed over.

Overall, I would definitely read this book...but like the series addict that I am, I want more! I am hoping that some of these May be expanded upon further in the next two books. Until then, I'll be anxiously awaiting the next book. I hate to love this guy!

I'm so glad I read this one before the next book. I literally HATED both Claire and Tony at the end of Consequences. This book made me look at Tony differently.

I'm convinced he's a product of years of manipulation and/or grooming by his grandfather. I won't say who else so I don't spoil it for some. But it's clear with this book, that he's doing what he's been told to do his whole life.

I think there are some fractures in Tony's thoughts and he truly does care for Claire. I think he does a lot of things with her that he doesn't even realize. Like marrying her. He keeps saying that now her name is Claire Rawlings and Claire Rawlings wasn't on the list. This means Claire Nichols is gone. However, the person that shall not be named, doesn't agree with this thought process. I think this person will continue to cause issues as the books go on.

I do really hate the third person format. I'm so glad that it's not used as often now currently because ugh, this is rough reading it from this POV.

Finally!!! I was able to get inside Tony’s head.

This book is definitely a must-read!

This book made my heart palpitate and made me cringe. It reminded me of how much I despised Tony in Consequences.

It showed me how dark and twisted his mind is and the way he manipulated everything.

“Everyone can be manipulated. It’s most successful by people who are closest to you. – Aleatha Romig, Convicted”

At the same time this also revealed the way he struggled with each emotion and decision. How his emotions and his feelings for Claire affected him. Tony might think that Claire was a distraction or a diversion for him but in reality it was an obsession.

Reading the scene of the “accident” was really hard, especially Catherine was there being the major bitch that she is.

But it was well written and Aleatha Romig described it in a way of how an unsettled person will react to a perceived betrayal and pain, which he never experienced in his life.

“There is no such thing as accident; it is fate misnamed. – Napoleon Bonaparte”

I love that this book only showed his POV for the significant scenes in Consequences. And since I’ve grown fond of Tony in Truth, I definitely can’t wait till his POV for Truth comes out!!! Team Tony / Team Rawlings forevah! :D

This was my second time reading this book.
This was a great book and I love Tony but, in this book, I hate him, and I hate Catharine even more. I have to say Aleatha is a genius for coming up with this story. Reading Consequences from Tony's POV was grittier and edgier than reading it the first time especially the "accident" scene I wanted to go through my kindle. The intensity with seeing how much he enjoyed the fact that he owned Claire, truly was creepy. He enjoyed taunting her, pushing limits with her. Love him or hate him I found this was an amazing read. It was nice to see how Claire made her way into his heart, it was also interesting to see how he missed her when he was away and didn't even realize it. It was cute when he would be working and all he wanted to do was go home and be with her, but he couldn't really identify why he felt this way. To me Tony lived his life for so longer getting revenge for his grandfather that he didn't really enjoy his life until he took Claire. I can't wait to read the next book so I can fall in love with him again. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

Antes de leer Behind His Eyes- Consequences...

Después de leer Behind His Eyes- Consequences...

Imposible olvidar tanto odio y dolor.

Volver a leer pequeños pedazos de Consequences desde los ojos de Tony, lejos de ayudarme a "entenderlo" me hace odiar aún más el monstruo que fue.

¡Otro Bravo Aleatha! por hacerme sentir tanto con esta historia.

I can't put a review together for this book. It is virtually impossible to do.

But, what I will say is:

I hated Tony in Consequences...

I hated Tony in Truth...

I hated Tony in Convicted...
(Okay, maybe a little harsh. I did warm to him in Convicted more than the other two books.)

But, anyway... continuing on with our theme.

I hated Tony in Behind His Eyes...

I hated Tony in Behind His Eyes...

I HATED TONY IN BEHIND HIS EYES...

Crazy. Psycho. Bastard.

F%&k...F#&k...F#%king Hell!

I'm virtually pacing right now—in angry mode—tossing my hands in the air and voicing expletives left right and centre.
Son of a bitch!
If I thought I couldn't possibly hate that man anymore after reading Consequences, then I was wrong. SO WRONG!
What a manipulative, domineering, arsehole, prick to end all pricks. Not to mention DUMB! What the hell? Why he put Claire through her 'final test' was beyond me.
Okay, so it's not beyond me, because if he hadn't, then Truth and Convicted would not have eventuated. So yes, I get it. BUT OMG!
*Deep breaths...deep breaths...WOOOOSAAA*

Okay, moving on. Aleatha is brilliant. Nuff said.

Didn't we already know his sins? We did, so it wasn't really any shock to see it from Tony's POV, although a few more things got cleared.
Especially how really big was Catherine's part in all of this.
In the end she's got it worse than him, so it's a win-win.

It's a shame that we had to wait till the end so he could see past the vendetta but it was worth it.

A dark and twisted journey behind the eyes of a man who constantly craved control and who in efforts to dominate a girl began to lose the very thing he desired the most, as well as the thing he never considered losing … his heart. It was deeply disturbing and intense, insightful and unexpectedly emotional.

Um…. wow. How to process. I’m just exploding with emotions. It’s difficult to explain how a story… with which I am already familiar… somehow is able to take me back so fully to the brutal beginning and completely alter my perspective once again. This is the talent of Aleatha Romig. She give us this guy, whom we hate in Consequences and grow to love? care for? by Truth and then root for in Convicted, thoroughly convinced by the end that his love for Claire was good and meant to be, and now, upon completing this dark journey… this wild ride of a book, I’m back to simply hating his guts. Oh Tony Rawlings, you are an evil, manipulative man! I was frankly stunned at all the feelings this book once again evoked. I wanted to read through the narrow slits of my finger, covering my eyes through some of the more ruthless moments – the consequences – I experienced once more. My gut clenched, my heart broke and I wanted Claire to run far far away. I was bursting with renewed anxiety and trepidation, but also, as before, devouring this dark journey with an obsessive ferocity, cursing the day that Tony made a promise to his grandfather. A promise that would change the life of so many.

“They took away my world. They took my family. Their damn kids, their kids, and their kids’ kids … they’ll all face the consequences of their actions.”

It was really intriguing to see how top of mind his plan for retribution was. How thorough. Tony’s thoughts are calculated… always trying to achieve order. Always influencing. Always controlling. I felt like he was a man so twisted, so affected by his past, so driven to fulfill a promise long made, that he carried a deep fury ready to erupt at any moment. His cool and calm exterior was a deceptive allure in contrast to his raging emotions. His desire – his need- to control everything was more essential than his next breath. And when he acquired Claire, she was no different. She was an obsession. A means to an end. A thrilling test to prove that he could own her, train her and mold her as he see fit.

“Anthony Rawlings did not fail… He would teach Claire that there were consequences.”

It was horrifying to see how much he enjoyed seeing Claire suffer… or perhaps, really what he enjoyed is seeing just how much he owned her. The thrill was in the domination. I had hoped to see a sliver of mercy, a glimmer of regret in his earlier actions, but there was simply none. His persona exuded power and experiencing his point-of-view was an extension of this frightening man. He enjoyed her submission and he relished in his ability to prove the most important point of all… every action had a consequence. And since he owned her, she had to endure a sequestered life at his whim.

“There wasn’t anything he couldn’t or hadn’t taken from her. She belonged to him — all of her. They had a contract.”

This novel takes us through some of the more significant experiences of Consequences, chronicling the journey from total torment to a slightly more compliant Tony as he began to feel something deeper for Claire. Something more real and beyond domination.

“When did this happen? He no longer wanted to dominate but to satisfy.”

I have to say that I don’t think Tony truly loved Claire by the end of Consequences. He continued to operate as if a contract existed and I think it really took a lot more time for him to learn to be more selfless, learn what it is to truly love someone. This is apparent even at the end as he continues to test Claire’s love and obedience. Furthermore, I don’t think Claire really loved Tony either. I think they both needed to be free as equals, getting to really know each other as whole people, to truly fall in love. Their relationship was just too toxic, too unhealthy at this point. And Tony fails to see just how wrong he’s been all along.

Although as I mentioned above, we re-live only particular chapters from Consequences making the flow sometimes a bit bumpy since you move from scene to scene, as opposed to the continuous chapter to chapter. Regardless, it was really insightful to see it all unfold through Tony’s eyes and that certainly felt new. Fans of the series should most definitely read this book to truly understand Tony’s motivations. The next companion novel, Behind His Eyes – Truth, will be out in March.

“It’s your strength and determination that have infuriated me. That strength and resilience have also made me fall in love with you.”
