Would winning his heart replace the bitterness in mine? High school was hell. My peers spent their waking hours tormenting me. My accent, my weight, my lack of social skills, and looks only a mother could love, made me a perpetual target. Years later, fed up with being the underdog, I took matters into my own hands. My transformation was epic, dare I say, supernatural, and I returned to that town armed with perfect looks, a fat bank account, and enough charm to steal world secrets, but my heart hadn’t changed at all, and it was hungry for revenge. I craved the destruction of my enemies more than the blood I now needed to survive. And then Eli returned. My first crush, despite the fact he was straight. Eli was the one person who stood up for me in high school. He was a true friend, but I loved him with the ardent focus of a teenager, and once I saw his face again, I knew that love hadn’t died out at all. Suddenly revenge took a backseat to wooing Eli. Now I could be the man he deserved on his arm, but Eli saw past the new me to the person I still was deep inside. Could he want me if he knew what I had become? Would he love me if he saw me Unmasked? Unmasked is an MM friends to lovers, spicy tale of revenge, involving a man willing to sell his soul to get what he wants, an awakening that leads another man returning home, bullies getting what they finally deserve, and a vampire doing very vampire-y things. It is NOT a bully romance. It is a standalone.

I want to put it out there that I really tried to like this, there are a lot of great reviews so I kept pushing through hoping it would get better but it’s so bad I can’t 😫

With all the talk recently about AI written books, this has me curious if the author may use that as a writing assist. This just read so cold, the characters had no build up or development same with the plot, it just felt so dry and unnatural

Look, I’m going to be honest here. Did I have some issues with the book? Yes. Like Eli’s easy acceptance of not only vampires, but DEMONS. Like Michel being turned, never being taught much about being a vampire but knowing how to unalive people without being caught. Like Garrett still bullying adults and never being taken down a notch by anyone else.

HOWEVER. This book was just plain fun. Anyone who has been bullied has had fantasies of going back and making things even. And being able to live vicariously through Michel was fantastic. Even though he had selfish desires for being turned, he also used his newfound power for good. Helping the helpless and making things right for others. Not to mention bringing his childhood town back to life.

Michel and Eli fit together like perfect puzzle pieces. They really did appear to be destined to be together. Their chemistry was off the charts and the love between then was genuine. Even with my little issues, I still really enjoyed this book. There were so many lovely moments between Michel and Eli and I loved every one.

Michel & Eli

I enjoyed reading Eli and Michel's story almost as much as the connected Immortal Assassins universe. Michel had his plan for revenge and I was hooked for all it. It felt good that he got the guy also.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Release day review - Unmasked by Mia monroe

4 ⭐️

From the beginning I really empathised with Michel. being bullied at school ,it brought those feelings back. You really never forget those that did you wrong young or not. These bullies should have been stopped but no one did. While I wouldn't personally choose murder as my revenge, I can see why Michel does. When Eli comes back to their home town you really see some of the old sweet Michel that Eli loved and still loves. They have some really cute moments which isn't a surprise when it's Mia that is telling their story. I loved that we see a little more of Yves and his brothers. I loved how Yves kind of takes Michel and Eli under his wing as Michel’s maker did not stay around after he was turned.
I love how easy Michel and Eli’s relationship is although i thought he may have been a little more shocked with the whole surprise im a vampire thing. But I think that's just them, they would do anything and support each other no matter what. Their connection is really hard to miss. Then Mia added kittens and I was a goner. Eli and kitty’s? The cutest thing ever.

There was a couple of bits missing and not tied in a bow for me but that being said i found this to be a cute and fun read.

I received a copy in return for my honest review

I love a possessive vampire, I love even more when the human mate is equally possessive. Michel and Eli were adorable as they found their way back to each other and exacted vengeance in the best possible way. I enjoyed reading this book and I loved seeing the men from New Oynx.

STILL don't know what to read, but I need a change of pace; so...I decided to get a head start on some Beat the Backlog books. This one was leftover from my October reads last year. It's Mia Monroe's "Unmasked."
["Would winning his heart replace the bitterness in mine?

The dual POV in this book almost killed me. Between the mutual pining and the mutual attraction and the mutual mutal-ness of it all?! D: It was a slow burn of the best kind of torture.

Part of me disliked how Michel had to change himself so that he would like himself, but people do that every day with plastic surgery. Eli didn't mind past Michel, but he certainly doesn't mind present Michel. ;)

This book reminded me of how sweet and snappy and spicy Mia Monroe books can be. Perfection.

Trigger Warnings: really mean bullies in the past tense, including physical violence and homophobic slurs. lots of current day bloodiness and murder. he isa vampire, after all.

It was difficult to finish this book. I started reading 2 months ago, I stopped at chapter 6, I read several others, but I couldn't read this one. Always passing a throw in front or a series. But yesterday I decided to eliminate it from my list and read it again. I'm on the second day of reading a book that I would finish in one day, easy, easy. That says a lot.

I read the books in the Immortal Assassins series by the same author. It's not the best book of its kind I've ever seen, but I liked the 3 that have been released so far. This book takes place in the same universe as the Immortal Assassins series, with the participation of characters from the series and everything. But it doesn't seem like it. Damn, it's so 5th grade, it hurts.

I understand Michel's motivation, the pain he went through and everything. But his lines are so clueless, so childish.

A mistake, a big mistake.

Nothing that happens in this book will have relevance in the Immortal Assassins series, which was the reason to continue reading. So, whoever is reading the series and doesn't want to take a risk with this salt-free, sugar-free couple. You don't need to die of boredom. Skip this house.

""Michael, moved from France to the USA with his parents, because of his father's job. From the beginning he was persecuted, abused and suffered a lot at the hands of his persecutors, idiotic, idle teenagers. Mainly because I'm a queer teenager. His only friend and defender is Eli, who did everything he could to defend him and with whom Michael is completely in love.
Time jump, Michael makes a pact with a demon, turns into a vampire and returns to the city to transform it into a model city and get revenge on his tormentors. Eli also returns to the city and despite all the signs of Michael's psychological problems, he supports and encourages the vengeful vampire to strike terror into evildoers.
In this environment we also have kittens, murder, blood, half-assed sex, ostentation and Eli's accidental transformation into a vampire, even though Michael said he wouldn't do that. Okay I believe.
End.""

3 charity stars, which I'm very generous.

Michel and Ben were the most adorable couple!

I love the premise of this book. I was bullied as a kid and whilst I do not have any murderous intent towards the people who bullied me (though I didn’t face anything near what Michel did) the desire to show people who treated you like dirt that you are worth something and that they are insignificant resonates. Michel suffered in a way that should be illegal (or, to the point, it’s illegal but often goes unpunished because of all sort of awful reason) and while he has certainly changed and become blood thirsty and a little mercenary at times, he honestly was still a sweet, caring and kind man. That’s what I love about Mia’s vampires in the world. They are bloodthirsty and vicious and they don’t question killing awful people but they are still kind and good at their core. They don’t want to hurt innocents and they work to keep the vulnerable safe. I felt for Eli too. Sure, he didn’t suffer like Michel did but honestly, that fear and insecurity is its own torture. I’m so glad he stayed true to himself even when things went wrong in his adult life. He retained a sweetness that I think matched Michel’s well. The story arc was awesome. Lots of blood and vengeance and satisfying retribution. Plus we got to see some old friends (I swear as much as I love Yves and Sun, Thorn holds a special place in my heart). The great thing about Mia’s books is no matter how excited I am to read them I am never disappointed and never feel like I expected too much. They are always just as good or even better than I hoped for.

The more of Mia's paranormal stories I read, the more I enjoy them. I'm not sure if it's the stories and writing are just getting better, or I'm enjoying them more because of the continued world building, or some sort of combination, but I find myself looking forward to her new releases more and more.

For the main character being a murdering vampire, this story was surprisingly sweet. It helps the Michel only goes after the truly bad guys, but we also get to see a completely different side of him with Eli (and the kittens). There are things that are definitely not believable, like how the town let Garrett get away with all his shit and Eli's easy acceptance of Michel's nature, but I didn't really care about those details in the moment. I was too immersed in the story and hoping Michel got his revenge and love. There are some graphic scenes, but triggers are clearly stating in the content warnings at the beginning of the book. We also get daily life, extravagant balls, and plenty of heat. The story is set in the same world as Mia's Immortal Assassins series, and there are some cross over characters. This could easily be read as a stand alone though

This was a super quick read for me. I found it surprisingly light based on the content warnings. While it wasn't exactly what I expected, I really enjoyed it and finished the book in a day

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

Michel was horrifically bullied in high school after transferring to the US from France. Bullied for his weight, his accent, being gay - everyone bullied him for something except for Eli who quickly became his best friend, and helped him fight off the bullies. Michel always vowed he would return to town and get his revenge on those who hurt him, and more than 10 years after leaving he is finally ready to set his plan in motion.

One year after Michel moved back to town to enact his revenge plot, Eli returns home with his tail between his legs and is very excited to hear that Michel is back too. They haven’t spoken in more than a decade but they rekindle their friendship immediately although Eli is intrigued by the much more reserved, slower to smile Michel and the other vast differences he can’t quite put a finger on.

This story is pretty low angst considering it involves a blood thirsty vampire determined to seek revenge on all those who wronged him. I enjoyed how Michel wholeheartedly relished his vampire side, feeling no remorse for his plans and enjoying himself. There was a certain deliciousness about it. I found Eli’s easy acceptance of everything Michel discloses a little unrealistic but glad he was willing to accept Michel for who he now is. I loved the shared world nature of this story as well despite it being a total standalone from Monroe’s ‘Immortal Assassins’ series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Unmasked by Mia Monroe is a sweet story of revenge, vampire vigilante style.

Michel is a high school kid who is transplanted to the US when his dad gets transferred. He is the new kid and unfortunately he is also overweight and nerdy. He is bullied mercilessly. His one bright spot that helps get him through is the one person who stood up for Michel and tried to protect him, Eli.

After graduation, Michel moves away for college and to escape his tormentors. Ten years have passed and after he makes a deal with the devil he returns to his hometown. He is now super model gorgeous, extremely wealthy, and has a thirst for blood. Literally and figuratively. He has returned to revitalize the town and rid it of all the bullies who made his high school life hell.

Eli returns also having burnt out on his high powered sales career. He reunites with Michel and their friendship is stronger than ever. There is a powerful bond between the two. Michel has always been in love with Eli and he sees this as his opportunity to woo him and hope that Eli will not freak out and leave him when he learns the secret Michel is keeping.

Oh! I love Mia Monroe. She is such a sweet writer with a punch. Her men are hot, strong, and bring the heat. Eli and Michel are so right for each other and their “ending” is perfect.

I honestly didn't know what to expect when I went in to read this, I didn't know anything about it and it was just so much fun. It wasn't perfect, if I wanted to be pedantic I could pick holes in it but I choose to just enjoy things for the most part unless there's something glaring that throws me out of the story, and that didn't happen here. For a paranormal story, it's low angst, sweet and uncomplicated fun.

I loved the tale of Michel getting revenge on all his high school tormentors, really anyone who was ever bullied has surely dreamed of going back to their home town as a success years later and rubbing it in those people's faces - just perhaps not to the extent that Michel took it 😂. Still it's a more than satisfying tale of revenge, with a dash of a second chance love story added in. I liked Eli and Michel together so much, but if anything the romance kind of felt second to the revenge story - that's not a criticism. This runs parallel to the Immortal Assassins series and it was great to see those boys there in their element, and taking Michel under their wing, so to speak.

This is fun, low angst, romantic and very bloody. The perfect paranormal read.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Is it possible to describe a vampire revenge story as sweet? It is when Mia Monroe writes it.

Michel suffers a number of humiliations and bullying when the young boy finds himself at a new school. He only has one person who shows him any kindness, Eli. Except they lose touch after they graduate.

When Michel is ready to enact his revenge plan on his childhood tormentors, he moves back to the small town. Now he’s rich, powerful and with a glow-up only a vampire could get. He also has plans to rescue the town and help it become a destination.

Let's be honest, it’s hard not to want to cheer him on.

Coincidentally Eli finds himself needing to move back to his roots, looking for a reset. Only to find the one boy he hasn’t been able to forget.

I love these two reuniting. Michel finds a little bit of peace, kindness, and joy when Eli is around. And Eli finds acceptance and a new lease on life. Together they find a really sweet and wonderful HEA.

We also get some fun Orpheus vamp cameos.

I had a good time with this one. I think everyone has had a thought of how they would love to come back to High School as their best selves and put all the nay-sayers in their place. Michel gets to do this in the best way possible and you are right there with him.

Eli was Michel's bright light in a swampland of negativity. Eli coming back to town and getting back in contact was the best thing. Seeing Michel's reaction to him was perfect. I love how easily these two get back into a groove together and then take things to a level they have never been before. I loved how these two just exist for each other and their connection. The pure love and acceptance is wonderful.

I enjoyed all the comeuppance that happens in this story and how Michel rights the wrongs from the past and those happening currently. We also get a meeting with some of our New Onyx team and Michel learns some useful things about being a vampire.

I love this authors books and this one did not disappoint at all. Michel and his parents came over from France for his father’s job. Being the new kid at high school, he was bullied from some of the students. His only friend at that time was Eli, who he had a crush on. Fast forward 10 plus years, Michel is back in his small town, a newly turned vampire, to help build it up as it was falling apart. A year later, Eli is back in town as he suffered a burn out at his last job. When he heard Michel was there, he went and saw him. This started their reconnection as friends, to lovers and more. With the help of some unexpected vampires who came to town, Michel was able get revenge on his bullies. Loved the world building, great chemistry between the MCs and lots of steam. Cannot wait to read more by this author.

Wow...This book feels like a prologue for Immortal Assassin series 🤭
I Love Michel and Eli ❤️ they were the most beautiful and adorable couple 😍

The plot of the book was so good, it was the first time I've read a Deal with The Demon gone right 😁
What ever Michel wanted in his life come true because of the deal and Eli's easy acceptance of Michel's true nature....wow 😯 that was beautiful ❤️
How Eli was by Michel's side to take revenge by accepting his gift was the best part of the book.
Michel and Eli felt like two perfect Puzzle pieces coming together after being Lost for so long.

Also love the cameo of my Orpheus Brothers, they were the Cherry on the Cake 🍰

I just love this book. Mia is such an amazing writer 😁

I find myself agreeing exactly with the people who have reviewed this before me. Is the novel perfect? No(i.e. Garrett continuing to get away with his crap into adulthood, Eli’s perfect perfectness) but that’s the beauty of it. It’s a revenge fantasy, it’s escapism, it’s fun! I enjoyed it so much. Michel coming back, not just for a straight forward revenge plot, but a prolonged plan of suffering, involving him helping the town and his people, I loved that. He is going to succeed spectacularly at everything Garrett has failed at. Then, when the time is right, the real, more satisfying revenge will happen. I loved the tie in with the Eternal Assassins. And the added lovey-ness of the mama cat and her kitties. Just like with most Mia Monroe books, especially with her paranormal romances, I wasn’t disappointed.

I wasn't sure about this book after reading the description. Revenge stories aren't always my thing, especially when they involve bullying but man was this story so amazing! Without being depressing and nihilistic, Michel and Eli were able to not only find love together but also obliterate those people who made their lives terrible in high school. The added drama of Michel summoning a demon to become immortal was a wonderful touch! I loved seeing the dark side of Michel show up as he worked to exact his revenge on Garrett and his cronies! Eli was such a sweet character and it was so fun to see him fall in love with Michel after moving back to town. I also really loved the crossover with Mia's Immortal Assassins series and hope we will get to see Michel and Eli in those books in the future! Another dark and swoony paranormal romance from Mia!

★★★★★ STARS!!
Epic and devious. I love this story so much. A man on a mission for revenge and it's the sweetest tale I could've hoped for. Michel comes back to his childhood hometown with a goal. Like the badass he became, he executes his plans flawlessly and it's so delightful.

I loved everything about this story. This author showcases her creativity time and again by delivering unique, entertaining and engaging stories with characters you'll love and some you'll hate. While you're captivated in the story, she pulls you in even more with the compassion, chemistry and connection you feel between Michel and Eli.

This book was fun, devious, and sexy as hell. We also get some cameos from other vampires from another series and there involvement was the perfect addition to this book. What an absolutely amazing read.

I absolutely loved this story. One of my favorite things about it was that it was a a different take on a vampire story. Vampire stories usually feature a main character or time that is from a different time. Someone who has lived many lives over many years. Unmasked gives a modern feel to a vampire romance, and I absolutely loved it. The glow up and revenge plot is also top notch. Nothing like watching a wonderful character find their confidence and deal with their bullies. Eli and Michel are so sweet and I’m glad there wasn’t a lot of miscommunication before they got their happy ending. They were steadfast even after years apart like no time had passed at all. There are also some wonderful cameos 😉 I can’t tell you how much I love it when an author lets you see some of your favorite characters again in a different setting. Definitely recommend you pick up and read Unmasked!

Unmasked was unexpectedly beautiful. It's the kind of revenge story that I need more of in my life. This book connects to the Immortal Assassins series too which was great to see. I love a good vamp story.

Michel and Eli are unlikely friends. Michel is the guy everyone bullies and Eli is a jock who does all he can on his own to stop the attacks. After high school they go their separate ways. Both have changed so much but Michel changed in ways no one around him would ever expect.

Michel gets the best revenge possible on the town.. by improving it. By showing them that kindness is better than bullying any day.

The chemistry in this book is off the charts. Watching these men fall back into supporting and love each other was beautiful.

This is a HEA, second chance, vampy story with a lot of steam and low angst and a bit of suspense. I def recommend it.

"Unmasked" is more of the greatness that is Mia Monroe. I am loving her paranormal stories. This book is both a revenge and friends to lovers plot. I long ago learned not to start a book by Mia Monroe if I have to work the next day. "Unmasked" was no different than the others in that way. Once I started it, I did not want to stop until I had devoured every well written page. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, especially those who deserved it getting their just deserts. Experiencing Eli and Michel finding their way together and their HEA was fabulous. The unexpected bonus was a visit by some of my favorite assassins. I cannot wait for more PNR from Mia Monroe.

I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

'Unmasked' was a fun roller-coaster ride of revenge, rekindling a friendship and a HEA. Michel was bullied, and Eli was his 'hero'. They had parted ways because of their different paths in life. But Michel has plans for his former bullies and the town they live in. When Eli rolls into town because of occupational burnout, that's the cherry on Michel's revenge sundae. Because with Eli by his side, Michel has a friend, partner, and lover to rely on now.
There were a couple of things that were a tad problematic - Eli's easy acceptance of Demons and Vampires, and no one's willingness to stand up to Garrett, who was a weak little man.
The appearance of the Orpheus Vampires was a treat and I'm excited to see if Eli and Michel will make cameos in future 'Vampire Assassin' novels.

I recently finished reading a book that I really enjoyed. It was a sweet and romantic story, with a bit of angst and some darker, grittier moments. One of my favorite aspects of the book was the friends-to-lovers storyline, which felt very authentic and believable. Overall, I thought it was a great read, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance novels. The main character, Michel, had a difficult time in high school due to being gay and French, but he had a friend named Eli who always stood up for him. Michel vowed to get revenge on anyone who bullied him, and he certainly came back strong. It was inspiring to see his resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

Spun off from the Immortal Assassins and featuring a cameo of the vampires from New Onyx, Unmasked is a return to your roots revenge romp with a fated mates twist and vampire powers! It;s a chance for Michel to avenge his childhood and win the heart of his best friend, who also feels the pull to return to his hometown.

This is a true bully revenge story with a vampire who orchestrates the resurrection of his hometown through removing the bully obstacles.

The love story unfolds sweetly and has a slow burn element, as Michel and Eli figure out how to be with each other and overcome their own pasts and insecurities.

It was a lovely read and the cameo from the Immortal Assassins was a nice twist.

Michel is brutally bullied in high school and he gives up the ultimate to get his revenge and to help the town he spent as a teenager a model for other towns. Elli was Michel's best friend and the one he loved with his whole heart. This author takes us through a story of revenge against the bullies who harm people such as him. It's bloody, there is torture and there is love, blood lust, sex lust and redemtion for a town on it's way to nowhere. The torture is something I usually don't read as It is a trigger for me...for some reaseon but in this story you don't see the blood, you don't see the torture, you only see the revenge and it is oh so sweet. An HEA for us readers and the two men who get their revenge...Eli and Michel. Great story

Best friend to lovers, second-chance romance with a twist…a vampire twist. This is a standalone book, but the story is adjacent to Mia’s Immortal Assassins series and the Orpheus boys from New Onyx make an appearance. Michel transferred to Neubrook High School from France as a sophomore, and the bullying started immediately. The only person that stood by him and tried his best to protect him was Ben. The two boys became best friends, but upon graduation went their separate ways away from Neubrook. Michel focused on getting revenge on his tormentors, and the first step of that plan involved a demon. While he is executing his plan in Neubrook ten years later, Ben returns home. Michel and Ben have always been drawn to one another, but could Ben ever accept what Michel has become? Is it possible to get revenge on your bullies and obtain all you ever dreamed of, including the man of your dreams? With a little help from friends, Michel, Ben, and Neubrook, can look forward to a better future. Definitely love a good vampire novel with a HEA.
