The bodies just keep on piling up!

These stories just keep getting better and better. Has the ghost of Fanny Baxter finally been laid to rest? With the family bloodline seemingly expired who will inherit what remains of Hadlow House? Just how many ghosts still inhabit the Hadlow ruin and how will they react to a new owner? This is one of the better series to grace the pen of Amy Cross and I for one cannot wait until the next instalment.

Another very dark episode of the series. Three children are exploring Hadlow House. Will they be able to leave unharmed? What about Patience and her daughter Anne. Oh, what about the role of Anne's husband? Will they sell the house in the end? What about her daughter Charlotte? Is there a showdown between Patience and her arch enemy Fanny Baxter at the end? The series has a great volume here, fully of eerie moments and nasty family business. I am looking forward to the fifth book now. Highly recommended stuff!

The fourth entry into Cross's The Haunting of Hadlow House was a solid installment of this series. It isn't perfect; there are some misplaced names and errors, but I try to look past that. It does have a creepy vibe, but not as much as the prior three. At first I thought this one was just sort of filler or a set up for the next one, but well... this one has a pretty interesting end that blows the series into a different course.

I'm enjoying this series. Amy Cross has some delightful storytelling, and the progression of the characters and how everything links together... It's been brutal, touching, and heart wrenching. I sometimes get pulled out from the story because this series could *really* use a good proofread for consistency, trimming out repetitive conversations, and typos. (Pleeeease. I would gladly beta read these and do line edits!) But again, I've overlooked that because the story has me hooked.

But this particular volume has a distinct plot hole that drove me NUTS through the entire story and really dragged it down for me.

The explosives. They seriously LEFT a TON OF EXPLOSIVES in the house for years?? WHY?! They were able and willing to remove all the bodies that had been left, so why in the hell wouldn't they have taken the boxes of explosives to dispose of them??

I can't think of a good reason why they would have been left there except to be used as a plot device. Maybe if they'd hidden the boxes in a cellar and no one knew where they were or something, I could kinda see that. But the way that it was laid out was just...a really glaring error to me that took away enjoyment from Patience and Fanny's final showdown.

Still... I'll keep reading. Because it's a damn good storyline.

Not my favourite, but a fitting end to Patience’s arc. I’m curious where the story will go to next and I’m sure I was supposed to recognise the man who found the deed but I didn’t.

This is the final book about the Butler family. Patience finally goes to confront Fanny and it is exciting. Fanny has taken all of the people that Patience loved and has killed them in various ways just to torment her through the years. The next book will be about another family that will be going out there. I don't think Patience succeeds in doing what she wanted to do because this series goes on. It will be interesting to see what happens and who will be haunted next. If you love a good ghost story, then you should read this series it will not disappoint you.

After the last three Hadlow House books following three generations of the same family, including Patience and, later, her daughter Anne being tormented by resident ghost baddie Fanny Baxter, I am pleased to say, we are moving onto a new plot line in book 5! Until then, some thoughts on book 4:

While I still really enjoy the overall premise of the Hadlow House series, I feel very stifled by the 1700 books, especially as the powers of Baxter lack internal logic making her threatening persona more cartoonish vs horrific, which is similarly how I felt about Anne’s husband. A few good haunting/ horror scenes fighting against characters I really don’t care for. Regardless, on to 1837!

💥 Dynamite book! While there is clear evidence of this book being published way to fast (spelling errors, characters being called the wrong names, odd plot lines..) I still give it a solid 4 stars. Amy Cross never disappoints with Hadlow House and muthin f**kin Fanny Baxter. A few characters you are just shown to hate from the start and it doesn’t change.

Will Patience exact revenge? Read away. But know this isn’t the end.. looks like 1837 is waiting in the wings in August.

Another instalment about Hadlow House and its evil presence. It also showed how weakness, selfishness and cowardice made for easy prey.

There aren't many characters to like in this series and as with Shakespean tragedies, nobody seems to learn.

The writing style was good and fast-paced, however, there were a couple of errors (no need for a capital 's' for 'sir' in that context and the wrong name was used once). Some expected gruesome scenes and spooky a atmosphere.

This is a fun horror filled series! This particular one had more domestic horror than others and was more brutal from that perspective than the others, and the ghostly horror is such a menacing read. This one dives into how children are affected by their parents. I’m really enjoying this series, it’s a fun short read that packs a punch.

Poor Patience. Losing Daniel, the love of her life, seems to have addled her brain. Her granddaughter's husband Horace, is a real piece of work who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Will the return of Patience to Hadlow House put an end to Fannie's evil influence, or will Fannie prevail?

The dark and sinister story of Hadlow House continues Ian 1800, where we see familiar faces battling it out for survival.

As with previous installments, this is a surprisingly dark story, with this one diving seeping into the violence to push the story forward.

This continues to be a fun and darkly entertaining series that spans centuries. We’ll see if Cross can keep up the pace.

I’ve read all up through this one. I am interested in the story but find the writing is not quite “on”. I almost feel like it’s AI writing it- maybe that’s how the author is so prolific. I’ve found several missteps in the continuity and some of it feels like no one is editing it. The idea of the story keeps drawing me back for now. Not sure if I’ll get through them all.

Definitely my least favorite out of the series so far. The story itself wasn’t bad but parts of the plot just seemed sloppy to keep book going. Fanny being the main ghost when there’s so many others has gotten boring. Also, I did not like what happened to the kids at all. It wasn’t a horrible book but also weakest of first 4.

I've really tried with this series but the lack of editing of this book was ridiculous - typos, grammatical errors, even incorrect words. The final straw was a mix up with the characters at one point. I won't be continuing this series

Reading the entire series..

I’ve got caught up in the story of Harlow House and have to know how it all ends. I started with the second book but I suggest you start from the beginning. Love this series

Such an improvement from the last books!

I really liked this one, it might be my favorite entry so far. The characters here seemed much more authentic and interesting, to the point that this was my favorite version of our main heroine Patience.

These are short books and easy to read, this is book 4 of the series and each books keeps you guessing what's going to happen, which is a really good way that Amy cross writes, I enjoy reading her books

So the story of the house and the owners and family members continues. This is one of the books that tells this story. On to reading the next in the series.
