What a fun and unusual historic romance this was! Debra Glass put two characters together that had several difficulties to overcome as they worked their way through the story laced with murderous intent, dominant tendencies and several racy scenes.
Set in Victorian England, Glass managed to build the world with appropriate societal expectations, and provide a solid reason for Primrose to seek out her estranged husband and return him to the family. The two have a solid connection, fraught with their own insecurities and Adam’s deep secrets: while he believes his wife to be one of the several American heiresses seeking a title, she is consumed with romantic dreams and hopes of a loving marriage.
With the relationship redefining itself on Adam’s terms, noting the easy arousal of his wife when he tests out his more dominant side, the story takes a sensual twist that is free from the angst surrounding the old Earl’s health and his desire for Adam and Primrose to produce an heir. With help from an unexpected source, a cousin who would have been Primrose’s husband had her father had his say, the plot to remove Adam from his inheritance is unearthed with deadly intention.
Glass manages to craft all of the characters with depth, using conversations and interior points of view to display their connections and emotional turmoil. While several secrets are revealed, the strongest sense of togetherness comes from Primrose’s acceptance and love for Adam, and his reactions to the trust she shows in her wholehearted acceptance in her submission to him. Secondary characters are defined with input from Primrose, her innocent approach to life works as a red herring to hide the nefarious intention just below the surface of those who would seek to have her marriage fail. I really enjoyed this story and hope that Glass continues to pen her own sensual and sexy versions of historical romance.

I generally enjoy Glass - this story is another overall good way to spend two hours. There were a few unique ideas and ways around the obvious (the ill father, the cousins, why does he hate me, let's go to the sex club, etc.) But. What kept it from moving to the really good or even great level was:
First and foremost - Book was way too short. It needed about 25% more to flesh out the overall tale (and I don't mean it needed more sex).
Second the other guy - there's another alpha in the crowd, Benedict, and he seemed more of the 'man' than the H, Adam. When another character is a bit more...enticing than the main guy (and the main guy wasn't bad, he was alpha...though he started out as a drug adict and got over 5 years of opium addiction in what read as one night) then I think we have a bit of a problem with this reader.

I'm a sucker for historical erotic romance that is spicy and sweet and this book delivered on both. A wonderfully easy, fun read.

Primrose was too much lol I loved her! Great book!

Lots of erotic scenes in this book (light BDSM). I liked the characters and the story and thought it was well written. I look forward to reading more from this author.
