With war on the horizon, Dmitri, liege vampire to the bear clan, offers safe haven to Vorlyk and his new clan. Having another vampire in his territory is difficult but a certain young she-cat makes life impossible. The stalking feline has her eyes set on Dmitri even when his eyes stray elsewhere.
The enemy proves that none of the North American clans is safe and it’s time to fight back. Battle plans are drawn, a traitor continues to wreak havoc, and Dmitri hides a secret that could destroy them all.
Can one she-cat change the deadly tide of war and will Dmitri’s curse keep him from taking a chance on love?
Dmitri is book V in the Fang Chronicles series and should be read in order.
I’m a writer, author, word warrior! I owned an independent bookstore for many years in my 20’s and 30’s. So it should be obvious, I LOVE BOOKS. Fiction or non-fiction it doesn’t matter. I hated self-help but then found Og Mandino. I hated French history and the game of chess and then discovered The Eight by Katherine Neville. I’ve stopped limiting myself to what I think I like.
That brings me to paranormal fiction. It’s a passion of mine. Vampires, werewolves, ghosts, zombies, angels and demons, I read them all. I’ve wanted to write a vampire/werewolf novel for a long time. Taking a break from another series (aka Suzie Ivy The Bad Luck Detective), I decided to write the story screaming inside my head. The Fang Chronicles Book I almost wrote itself. No research or trying to remember a specific conversation, all I needed to do was keep the names straight.
I was so curious about which she-cat would be Dmitri's mate and so happy to see I was right on :) Talya's involvement was unexpected and quite maddening but it added some spice and incentive for Dmitri and Nikka to acknowledge and act on their feeling. This 5th book reunited all characters and put an end to the war, pushing a few couples together and seeing new babies come to life.
I truly enjoyed it. We all have our favorite (Zenya and Nicholas personally) and was very happy to see all of them get their happy ending.
The last few lines and revelation were definitely shocking!! I am very curious to see what will come out of it. Even if I feel it's a bit early for Ivan to get another mate so soon after he lost Alba, specially when we know they live for centuries. But I reserve my judgment and am looking forward to reading it.
I enjoyed this book and the romance between Nikka and Dimitri. I was really excited to get over with the cats and Amelia storyline because it had been drawn out for so long. I wouldn’t say it was the most satisfying ending to the war but I appreciated that it was over and done. I’m excited to reread Ivan’s story because I barely remember it
Oh how the mighty fall. Dmitri has the least hold on his dangerous side of all the vamps. His history is astounding and the world should rightfully fear him. If they knew he existed. One quiet cat brings his reality crashing down around him and just might save the day.
I love this series, and feel it is one of the better indie series that I have read. It’s just more proof for me that indie writers should not be ignored by the reading public. Some of my very favorite authors either are still indie, or started as indie, and I count myself lucky to have found these authors.
Dimitri is the vampire liege for the bear clan. This means as long as the bear clan has him to feed off of them, the enzyme in his bite will keep them healthy and immortal. A win win for both. Full on war between the cats from South America, and the wolves and bears is imminent. To that end, Nicholas’s beastkind, which includes both wolves, and cats that were rescued from South America, have come to stay with the bears. Two of the cats, Nikka and Talya, are immediately attracted to Dmitri, although Dmitri only has eyes for Nikka. Talya is a eighteen, extremely immature, and only has one arm, after being tortured by the male cats in South America. Nikka is older than Talya, and is mute, due also to being tortured in the past. It isn’t a love triangle, because Dmitri doesn’t want to have anything to do with Talya, but she sure doesn’t take the hint. Of course a lot of problems ensue due entirely to Talya and her antics.
Over and above all that however, this book is about the war with the cats(mountain lions) of South America. It’s not pretty, by any means, and the author doesn’t have a problem with killing off characters, but then it is war after all. In this world building, the male cats are cruel, and treat their women as slaves and/or sexual objects. The female cats know nothing good of the world. So this is also a story about the rescued females learning to live in a much better world. But first the cats must be defeated.
The different dynamics between all the different beastkind, and the vampires they live with, was also a big part of the world building. Adding the bears to this ongoing story, brought a whole different dimension to the world of these shifters. Each different shifter race has it’s own customs and ceremonies. Pretty fascinating stuff, I must say.
I enjoyed Dmitri and Nikka’s romance, and their overcoming obstacles that include Talya, and the fact that Nikka is mute. Of course I didn’t enjoy the war, but we finally get to see what happens with all of that. The author wraps up a lot of things from the previous books, and had I not had the next book ready to read for review, I would have thought the series was over with this one. However, the author does have one more story to tell in this series, and I will be reading that one very soon.
This latest entry in the Fang Chronicles was well written, with good characters, most of which readers already know from previous books. Lots of action, and hot sex scenes round out this story. I think paranormal romance fans will find a lot to like about this book, and the whole series.(4.25 stars)(RabidReads.com)
D'Elen you did it again....I loved it....I could not wait for this book and I was not disappointed. Dmitri is one powerful sexy vampire determined to claim his mate Nikka his kotika who just happens to be mute. Together with there family and friends they must end this war with the rogue cats and vampires without all of there family and friends dying in the process you see Dmitri has a special skill that only Nikka can help him control. I loved the fact that all of the characters were brought together in this book and we were able to get a glimpse at everyone and see what was going on in there lives. I cant tell you sad I am to see this series end with one more book left the end. This truly is one of my very favorite series. D'Elen is an awesome writer and her characters click and I cant wait to see where she is going to take me in the next series she writes....So If you have not read this series yet you are missing out. The first book is FREE. Im putting the link up here so you have no excuse for not at least checking the first book in this series out once you do I promise you will be hooked.
I'm realizing that with every review and update that I post on either Amazon or Goodreads, I am using a lot of the same words to express my love for ALL of the wonderful characters that are now a part of my life, just from reading these amazing books in such a exciting and wonderful series. I love seeing the main character in the story find his or her true mate and the love that have for one another, the friendships made throughout each clan and loyalty that all of these beastkind have each other and their liege. Just as I have said with every book that I read so far in the Fang Chronicles Series, I would absolutely recommend Dmitri's Story, as well as every single book in this series! I guarantee you that you NOT be disappointed!!
Fantastic! I have to say that the fight seemed really rushed and it was over before it really started. It's like the build of anticipation, getting ring side seats, dressing in your best to see two boxers go at it and then it's all over in the first minute of the fight. I really enjoyed reading about Dmitri and his beginning, it told a ton about his connection to Cheri. Even though I think for her to have such a strong reputation in the other books and this, she should've showed up and showed out in more of the battles. This wrapped up pretty much everything in the series and I sure hate to not have something else to read about them and see just how much more drama they dealt with.
This series has had its emotional ups and downs. I have cried though some and laughed through others; however, this was a great combination of both. I loved that the characters from all the books came together for the ending of the war while keeping this about Dmitri and Nikka. The reveal of the reason behind Dmitri's reluctance to get involved is well handled and really endeared him to me. Nikka and Dmitri's relationship progresses at a steady rate and does not get lost in the development of the rest of the story line. I loved how the other characters were all pulled into ending the war. Thanks D'Elen for a great series and a wonderful set-up for the last book in the series to come.
The beastwars are here and things get real in a hurry. Dmitri fights the red killing haze but seems to be losing the war. Only the Kodiak has the ability to calm him, but even that is not working like it did. Now he has Nicholas with his new vampire and clan of cats and wolves staying in his territory. Unfortunately, Talya has taken a interest in him. But Nikkia is the one he wants.
Can the vampire with the gift of death save them all or will finding his mate come too late?
love this series and Dmitri is no exception .Dmitri is the vampire liege to the bear clan.a war is brewing and another clan takes shelter at Dmitri's territory .among the newcomers is Nikka a mute cat who turns out to be Dmitri's mate. there is action, sex ,a great storyline and funny moments which i enjoy in a story.i loved the fact that Ms McClain updated us on past couples in the series.Sad to see only one book left in series but i can't wait to see how it all ends.
This was an amazing read, the manner in which D'Elen bring the characters together. Loved all the couples especially Mandy and Honey love a women who takes charge and goes for what she wants. Also loved Zenya and Nicholas, these couples are amazing....good job!!!!
Excellent satire! It was not as funny as the previous story, however it pulled on your heartstrings more. The glimpses of background on both characters caused tears and then I was cheering when seeing love conquerors all. Can't wait for Ivan story.
I know I've said it before but I'll say it again AMAZING , I really enjoyed reading this story and never wanted it to end , thank you for the amazing story's you share with is.
More exciting than the other books in the series. Loved how this book is so well put together though it has left me wanting more. Mc Clain I need more!
Dimtri likes the solitude, along with his bears! Nikka's clan ends up in bear territory for their own safety! The young Helion (Talya) is making everyone miserable and war is on the way! This book has some laughter, but war is never pretty. I Loved it
