Please Don't Go, Girl

Rate this book
I’m no one’s knight in shining armor. My weapons of choice are my drumsticks and my di—Yeah, you get what I’m saying.

Yet, here I am, riding to the rescue to save Lena Graves from an ugly confrontation with her a-hole ex. It’s not like I’ve given the little secretary, who happens to be the friend of my best friend’s girl, much thought. But I’m not going to stand by and let her be disrespected either. And when she thanks me by sinking to her knees in the club bathroom? Well, I don’t stop her.

I did mention I’m no one’s hero, right?

Now, my mother is demanding I return home for my parents’ anniversary party, and I might be the drummer of the world’s hottest rock band, but I can’t say no to her. But damn if I’m showing up alone—especially when my brother will be there with the woman I was supposed to marry once upon a time.

It’s Lena’s turn to do me a solid, and when she grudgingly agrees to come with me, problem is solved. Though we shared a nuclear hot encounter that is permanently branded on my mind, she’s the perfect woman to be my fake girlfriend. Lena knows this is pretend and won’t expect anything more at the end of this.

But being in such close proximity to her…sharing her space…breathing in her sweet scent…touching her thick, curvy body… This ruse requires me to act as if I’m gone over this woman. But this pretense is stirring something all too real inside me. And at the end, we’re going our separate ways. Or maybe it’ll be me begging her to please, don’t go…

I enjoyed this read - it's not a complicated one and I like that

Lena is just out of a relationship in which her boyfriend broke up with her via letter and found a new girlfriend super fast after her.
Kade's brother married his ex after they cheated while he was with her - he hasn't been home in a long time to avoid the drama and now he needs a date for his parent's anniversary celebration and party

The mess was the perfect amount. I loved Lena and Kade and the spicy scene - this is for sure an easy fun read between those bigger books.

I think a story like this is needed every once and a while - I will be reading the other in this series

Naima Simone takes us to a sizzling hot and deeply emotional journey in Please Don't Go,Girl. This title is so unique and it caught my attention immediately. And from the first page, I was thrown into this fast paced world of passion, angst and heartache. The author captured so many raw emotions in just few chapters! Kade and Lena are like fireworks together..they will either destroy each other or burn down the demons of their past together to start happily ever after. You have to read to know how they found healing all consuming love..

Bloody Sunday's drummer Kade posed as a fake boyfriend ans saved Lena, best friend of his best friend's girlfriend in a club where her Dbag ex confronted her. And they have a scorching hot night together. This gave him an idea. He has to visit his parents after 4 years, for their 38th anniversary. And he has to face his brother and sister in law who was his fiance and who cheated on him with his brother. He asks Lena to be his fake girlfriend. But fake things often turn terrifyingly real.

Lena is a firecracker. She made some bad choices in men who left her feeling less than deserving but her sass hasn't died at all. She saw straight through Kade's armor. Kade and Lena didn't have much interaction before that sinful Night club but they had a magnetic attraction always. Kade saved her and soothed her pain at a particularly vulnerable moment. She wants to trust him..trust the man behind the glamour and fame. Kade showed her the broken pieces. But it was hard for him. Being back to the home he avoided for years, made some old wounds resurface. The anger. The shame. The hurt. It was supposed to be an arrangement but Lena pushed inside with her sweet and feisty heart and for the first time, he felt something real and raw. And what does our possessive alpha heroes do in face of feels? They shut down. But Lena had enough and she won't let him run. It's his turn to chase her! So comes the grand gesture! Kade is all alpha with his larger than life presence, strong possessiveness and caring sides! And the chemistry? Is gonna burn your kindle down!

Quick contemporary, rockstar romance, dual POV

The chemistry was smoking and spicy scenes were solidly sexy. I loved the moments when Kade and Lena were either lusting after each other or in the moment of passion.

Unfortunately, if there wasn’t a spicy scene or flirtation between Kade and Lena, it was a short book to do a lot of the emotional lifting with that was setup. This book tried to tackle family dynamics, awful exes but they all felt a bit rushed. For example, I found Kade’s ex a bit too much of a caricature of an evil villain.

It is also hard for me to buy into an insta love story, considering Lena and Kade had been around each other for a week or so? It feels insincere to tell the other person they love them after a week together.

If you like a fast paced steamy contemporary music band romance this is for you.

Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for this ARC. Review is voluntarily provided and are my own thoughts/opinions.

Loved it!

This was a great novella; of course things moved a little fast, but the storyline covered the important aspects so the book made sense. This was some Jerry Springer type stuff that made me laugh throughout the book. The romance was hot, and all but one of the characters were likable.

this is on sexy sweet book!

I loved it! The passion is on every page. There’s nothing like two people damaged by love finding each other. The push and pull of falling in love is intoxicating.

A sexy drumming Viking. Who doesn’t want that? A comfort leading to some stellar sex where “ Tell me what you want from me? He growls the demand. “And use verbs.”
If that doesn’t hit you down low, I’m not sure what will.
Overall this is a low angst, very sexy book.

Confession, the title, and the cover lured me in, but I was already there because of the author, I love it when a book has my attention before word one. A book that pulled me in and did not let go; a quick read but satisfying. All of my emotions were on high alert as I was pulled under. I loved Kade and Lena, they have the fireworks and the angst, but can they let go of their pasts?

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Quick Summary: An all or nothing with a rocker romance

My Review: Please Don't Go, Girl by Naima Simone is associated with her Love on the Radio series. It spotlights the band Bloody Sunday. This installment is specifically about the group's drummer, Kane, and his lady love, Lena.

About the Book: Coming in like a knight in shining armor, Kane Gibson had no problem checking Lena Graves' ex. She was extremely grateful and had no problem communicating her appreciation. When Lena became aware of a unique predicament that Kane finds himself in, she opts to help him. Soon, they both get carried away by what's happening. How will their story play out?

About the Characters: Kade was a sexy pirate with a wicked tongue. He was unafraid to speak up, step up, and show himself to be all man. He also had a vulnerable side that stemmed from a past event. Lena was solid yet insecure. She had a fire that powered her up, but she also had scars from being burned in the past. Together, this couple was smoking. They had an explosive insta romance.

About the Fav: This title immediately called to mind the lyrics of old from NKOTB. The club confession scene at the end perfectly communicated that message. I was totally fangirling Kade's words and actions. Salute!

My Final Say: This is the second Naima Simone Bloody Sunday title I've read, and I must say that it was hawt. Overall, the thing I loved the most about this book, as well as about the other book - Don't You Forget About Me - was the fact that they were both written from a multicultural love angle. Readers who enjoy colorblind romances and romances with rockers will jive with this one.

This is a novella that clocks in at around 110 pages and 9 chapters, and Naima once again managed to bring out all the greatest hits: As I have said many a time, I love an immediate proposition and these two get to it by the second chapter after Lena is confronted by her ex and Kade (who, btw, is biiiiig and blooond) steps in and pretends to be her boyfriend, emasculates the ex, and has him kicked out of the club within three minutes (or something like that). Obviously, Lena needs a little comfort after this episode, and I do appreciate that Kade isn't honorable enough to reject her by citing "emotions" or something. It takes a special man to began making out with her, then hold her while she cries in a delayed reaction to the ex, and then smoothly continue to have sex with her. What a winner.

Anyway, in a true romance hero galaxy brain moment, Kade decides that a woman he hooked up with *once* is the perfect person for him to take home and introduce as his girlfriend to keep an ex away. Cue fake-relationship shenanigans that quickly turn into something all too real as Lena and Kade both grapple with ghosts of past relationships and try to see themselves of deserving a second chance.

The sex:

Here is what I'll always adore about Naima Simone: she's SO GOOD at writing sex in a way that's dirty and joyful and unapologetically celebrates bodies of all sizes and skin colors. There are two solid full-length sex scenes that don't skimp on description or dirty talk, and both occur during high-tension moments so the emotion shines through as well.

Overall:

Look, Naima Simone is my favorite author and for good reason. So I'd absolutely recommend this novella anyone looking for a short read that manages to fit in the perfect amount of plot, emotional development, and sex.

Thank you to Oliver Heber Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.

Listen, I love Naima Simone and her style of storytelling a lot but this one just did not work for me. I don't think 140 pages was enough to properly convey the two MCs falling in love what with the level of drama that was involved in the story, specifically with Kade's backstory. Kade, a drummer for a well known rock band is rich and famous and hot. His best friend and Lena's best friend are the main couple in the prior book and from the way the book starts, they barely know each other, couldn't even be considered friends. Within the first couple of chapters, they've hooked up at the club they're all hanging out at after Kade helps extricate Lena from an awkward situation with her ex and his new gf. Cut to 2 weeks later and Kade is begging Lena to pose as his fake gf when he returns home for the first time in 4 years to see his whole family. The reason for the facade is that 4 years ago, he caught his fiancé in bed with his brother and turns out they had eloped. AWKWARD. So obviously there is drama interspersed with Kade and Lena getting down and dirty but none of this makes time for them actually getting to know each other and falling in love. In fact, when Lena admits she's in love with Kade, my initial reaction is "girl, HOW and WHEN?!?" The story just feels so rushed and fast paced, it needed at least 50 more pages to give us some clue that there were actual feelings involved and how those feelings grew. They are basically strangers at the beginning of the book and within the span of a few days with his family in Boston, there are feelings and it feels very, very quick and implausible to me. This wasn't my favorite. It had potential but just didn't quite get here.

This was a really quick read, only 9 chapters but, it had a lot of story.

This is my second book by Naima Simone and I can't believe I haven't read her work before.

Please Don't Go, Girl is such a sweet, heartstrings puller, steamy and spicy with such delicious sexual tension, and enough comedic relief that it felt like a full-length novel. And yet, I still wish it had been longer because I wasn't ready to be done with Lina or Kade.

This book was book 3 in Naima's Love on the Radio series and I have to say it read like a standalone.

I loved the instant chemistry between Lina and Kade. The way the author showed it to me the reader. And though at first, I wasn't convinced because these two made-for-each-other idiots hadn't said much to each other, the tension and vibes were there quickly.

I wish we had delved a little bit more into the characters as individuals, more so Lina than Kade, because while the ending was wonderful it also felt unfinished for me. After all, there is still so much of Lina that is left unanswered for me. We saw where Kade comes from, what his past was, and what the conflict's beginning was. However, with Lina I don't feel like we got to the core of who she was we stayed barely below the surface and for that, this book is a 4.25 read. It was a great read but it could have given me more, I feel like I became invested in a character that I didn't get to know wholly.

I hope an extended epilogue is given because I want more of these two.

Lena is a school secretary who is very happy with her life. She has had her heart broken so she is pretty sure she doesn't want to take a chance on romance anytime soon. Kade plays drums in one of the biggest bands in the world. He has no intention of getting into a serious relationship with anyone maybe forever. Lena has been attracted to Kade since she first met him. Kade comes to her rescue one night at a bar. Once they are alone together, they realize that their attraction might be too big to fight. Will they find lasting love or more heartbreak?

Lena and Kade both have really good reasons to avoid relationships. The author introduces both small and large facts that help to develop the reasons for their aversions. I was concerned that the author might try to make the reasons over the top but instead the readers get simple bits of information that flow seamlessly in the story. There are lots of interesting side characters. All of the parts work together to create a tight story with plenty of emotion. I'm not going to share lots of details because the author allows it slowly build and unroll so I don't want to give any of it away.

This is a contemporary romance that takes place in Pike's End and Boston. This is a super speed love story. I recommend this book to anyone that likes stories with smart characters and situations that feel like they could be real life. I will read more from this author in the future.

“Sneaky Love”
If you want a character who defines “holy hot rockstar with a filthy mouth and who knows how to use his big stick and berries,” look up Kade Gibson.
I’m a sucker for anything 80s. In Naima Simone’s Love On the Radio series, all of her books have an 80s song title, and they are packed with spice hot enough to set your loins on fire.

The latest installment, Please Don’t Go, Girl follows Lena Graves, the jazzy best friend of Lennon, a FMC from a previous book. On the outside, Lena presents a strong front. On the inside, woman is struggling. I love that she knows her self-worth and fights to preserve it.

When Lena meets Kade, the drummer of Bloody Sunday, let the colossal crushing begin! It isn’t until one fateful night at a club when the conscious coupling commences! Ooo weee, it’s explosive! I can’t even tell you how many times I reread the scene where he kissed her on her jaw! Her JAW, people! So. Damn. HAWT!🔥
And you mos def won’t be disappointed with the rest of the good-good. 😉

We have some forced proximity, old flames that need to be put down, and two MCs coming to grips with their pasts in order to move forward in the present.

PDGG is funny but also shines a light on how life-altering complicated relationships can be.

The ending felt a little abrupt. I also would’ve like to have seen more of Lena and Kade’s relationship once they stopped all of their shenanigans. But it was a super entertaining storyline and worth the read!

ALL the squeeing for Naima Simone’s PLEASE DON’T GO, GIRL!!

If a fake relationship with real emotional vulnerability and connection are your thing, RUN, do not walk to put this latest in her Love on the Radio series in front of your eyes. School admin Lena Graves and rockstar drummer Kade Gibson have friends in common. So when Lena’s wretched ex thinks to tear her down at a club, Kade doesn’t hold back in making sure Lena knows he has her back…. And when he needs a (fake) girlfriend for his parents’ anniversary party? Lena’s the one he calls.

So, Naima Simone works her magnificence with this story and its characters; their emotions truly reach out and grab readers and don’t let go. And it will be a surprise to none of her readers that the heat between Lena and Kade is absolutely scorching.

Lena is a heroine to girl-crush on—she ultimately stands up for herself with confidence and a great deal of compassion, and her willingness to speak the truth to Kade and others is courageous and inspiring. Kade too steps up to the plate. While he does have a few missteps along the way, it is quite satisfying to see him find himself again, and be willing to step up.

This one is going straight onto my keeper shelf.

Please Don’t Go, Girl is the third entry in Naima Simone’s series, Love on the Radio. Readers get to catch up with the two couples from the first books and we are allotted small snippets into their current situations. In Please Don’t Go, Girl, Kade, drummer extraordinaire and Lena find out that they share more than just mutual friends. Kade comes to Lena’s rescue when she is ridiculed by her insulting ex-boyfriend. Kade finds that he soon needs a favor from Lena. His parents are celebrating their wedding anniversary and he asks Lena to accompany him and to pretend to be his girlfriend as a buffer. Kade has not been back home for any length of time since he walked in on his brother and his fiancée. Ms. Simone ably uses the tropes of fake relationship and forced proximity to craft a sweetly sensual story. Kade and Lena are similar in that they both share emotional damage from past disappointments and wounded feelings. They differ in that Lena still has an open heart and is more than willing to take a chance on love again! Will Kade allow his past hurts blind him to the love that is standing in front of him? As always Ms. Simone gives readers stellar storytelling with angst, heart and heat.

I received an ARC of this and Okaaaaaay this was a quick steamy read. Lena and Kade had amazing chemistry from the first moment we get both of them on page together! But what I liked apart from that was how we get to see Kade's inner most vulnerable thoughts. His gf cheated on him with his whole brother, so that has made him be like yeah nah he not about this relationship life.

Lena is dealing with her own breakup with her douchy ex-bf (seriously Ben and Kade's annoying ex , Mina, could choke!!) so cue a lil sexy time with a hot rock star after a not so great encounter with douchy Ben. I meaaaaan girl was winning that night. Kade rocked her world mmmhmmm

but wait hello, toss in some fake dating (my catnip) and we got a lovely moment for some messy emotions to be thrown in. I loved every juicy minute of it. Kade was fighting those feeeeliiiiings hard but he was a goner for Lena from the beginning (poor guy lol)

So all this rambling is to say: Get it. Read it. Enjoy it! When it's out on Sep 26th ;)

I’ve a been a fan of Naima Simone since her Kimani Romance days. I love her writing style; her characters are so true to life and her plots are oh so good. Kade is a sexy drummer. Lena is a secretary and she is the friend of Kade’s best friend’s girl. When Lena’s ex-boyfriends comes on the scene with insulting remarks Kade comes to Lena’s rescue pretending to be her boyfriend. The two share a sizzling hot night between the sheets. Kade hasn’t been home in 4-years since walking in on his fiancée and his brother. Now that he is home for his parent’s 38th anniversary party he has no intention of showing up alone. So, Kade asks Lena to be his fake girlfriend and Lena agrees. Both Kade and Lena have loved and lost. With the two-spending time together their relationship goes from fake to the real deal. This an entertaining read with its share of drama, betrayal, and romance make for a very interesting read.

This is not the first book I've read from this author, so I was excited to read Kade and Lena's story. This was a good romance story although I thought I would love it more than I did. The characters were okay but for me there was nothing about them that made them memorable. Kade and Lena know each other from their friends, however, when it comes to them speaking it's little to no words exchanged until Lena's ex Ben makes an appearance. Kade comes to Lena's defense and from then on things get steamy and interesting between the too. Lines are crossed, feelings are developed and at some point, in the story everyone must face their truths. This story has jealousy, betrayal, forgiveness, steamy scenes and a sweet ending. Although this wasn't a five-star read for me, I would give other books from this author a try.

In Please Don’t Go, Girl, Kade helps Lena out with her ex-boyfriend so he asks her to be his fake girlfriend. Except, neither of them expects the situation to get so far out of hand.

Honest to goodness, this is your standard Fake Dating scenario but with more spice. It could have stood to be a little longer, but I appreciate Naima Simone’s decision to not add anything that was unnecessary.

Considering that this was the third book in a series, I didn’t have too much hope for it going in. I will say, however, that it does not require you to read the previous novels. Was I a little bit curious about them? Sure, but not so much that it took away from the story.

I would recommend this one to anyone who loves a quick-ish spicy read. If you like Fake Dating, Betrayal, and Forgiveness, then this is definitely for you.

This was a short steamy read with a lot of emotional angst packed in. I liked all the characters, even the secondary ones. I really enjoyed the multicultural aspect. But, as with most short romance stories, the relationship felt too rushed. While Lena and Kane certainly had a sexual attraction in their first meeting, I didn’t feel any emotional connection for their encounter to be more than a one night stand. Nor did I get much in character background to Lena. Meeting Kane’s family gave more insight into Kane himself but the author did not provide much for Lena. Still, for a quick, fog-your-glasses read, this book is the ticket!

This was a sexy insta love contemporary read. It is book three in the Love on the Radio series by author Naima Simone. It was well written with good characters and storyline. It's also a rockstar romance, which I loved. The chemistry between Kade and Lena was blazing hot and the spicy scenes were sexy. Since this was a short book there wasn't a deep emotional dive into Kade and Lena's pasts. This book tried to deal with varying aspects of their family dynamics but it felt a little bit rushed as if more could have been explored. I would have loved more details on both of their exes particularly Kade's ex. I know some people find insta love stories hard to get into, but I love them. Looking forward to reading from this author in the future.

This book was hot! I love a dirty talking man who delivers on his promises!! Kade delivered y’all.

Kade asked Lena to be his fake girlfriend for his parents’ anniversary party. He did not expect to enjoy Lena’s company so much or for her to become so important to him. He’s a man who has been burned by love so he avoids emotional entanglements. He cannot avoid his feelings for Lena.

Lena has this connection to Kade. She wanted to ignore it because she too has not been successful at relationships. She allows herself to get caught up in Kade’s aura.

This couple just burned. I don’t know how they didn’t expect the fire they started not to just get bigger. I was happy they accepted their fate and just loved!!!

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and was happily entrenched in the scorching story of a bad-a$$ drummer and a small-town girl. What starts out as a one-and-done night stand has a lot more going on when Lena returns Kade’s heroic save from her ghastly ex. Sometimes you can’t fight fate.

They both have trust issues so you must read this book to see what happens. I loved Lena’s wit and her ability to put people in their place. Kade is a giant of a man with a protective side towards women. Now I’m on my way to reading books one and two of this series.

Book 3

This is book 3 in the Love on the Radio series and it’s another great story! All three books are standalone, although this book has recurring characters from book 2. Two sides characters from book 2 are the main characters of this book.

Again, the underlying connection of all three books is music. The MMCs in each title are musicians. The love interests I’m this book have both been heartbroken, betrayed before and each have to overcome their fears in order to love again. The characters are written with depth and thoughtfulness. There is good sex scenes and lots of funny inner dialogue.

ok (contains spoilers)

My main issue with the book is the length. Everything happened too fast. I would have like to see them interact more as a couple and with their friends. More background on Lena and her story with her father would have been nice too . What does she look like by the way?
Both Lena and Kade seemed nice but we don’t know enough about them to really know.
As for his brother, forgiveness sure but we would have never been close again. That level of betrayal cuts too deep.

Not for me. It was sexy and hot, sure, but the Gen Z slang did me in. I couldn’t reconcile the author using the words flagellation and prurient, but then saying bet and “it’s giving” a little later. It kind of felt like it was trying too hard. And I know it was short, but I always feel ripped off when reading novellas; the story is paced regularly for the first half, but then totally rushed for the second half. Either keep the pacing the same and do a full-length novel, or rush the whole thing. I received an advance review copy from NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

As Lena might say: “Well, Damn!”

I can’t recall if I’ve ever read one of Naima Simone’s novels, but I am definitely a fan now. This girl can write! She fully developed the characters in this story and had me falling in love with Lena and Kade like a boulder shoved off the Empire State Building. Strong emotions, clever wit and passion that that tried to set my iPhone on fire. Nice. I highly recommend Miss Simone (going on faith here) and this book. Off to read another one of her’s. A+++

Oh wow, the chemistry between these two simply sizzles! From the moment they appear on the page together, you feel the heat and attraction between them, and you also feel the understanding and caring as well. Determined to be a just that once, well, we all know how that goes, but the character growth and love that develops between them, that was the star of this story. Loved their journey, how they started, and where they ended up, and that they took that leap to be happy <3

Every time I read a book by Naima Simone I'm reminded of her talent in shaping characters.

This is the story of Lena and Kane, it starts dreamy, him protecting her from her toxic ex.
Things heat up super fast and than they are forced into a fake relationship.

Despite being a short book, it has everything: strong plot, feelings, all the feelings! And all the heat!

Both characters are complex, endearing, just round persons and Lena's insight into the whole situation is so full of heart. It's impossible not to get caught in the narrative with characters like these!

Loved Kade and Lena

I thoroughly enjoyed Lena and Kade's story. The chemistry from the beginning between the two was off the charts and didn't simmer at all. Lena was just getting out of a bad relationship and Kade avoided relationships until he met Lena. The two were so good together and the fake relationship proved that they had something real. Loved the HEA and everything else with their story.
