This is an absurd book. Just absurd. It lures you in with the idea that a CIA agent turned Journalist has become an investigative reporter for an international magazine and conspiracy theory expert. But that isn't the Absurd part.

The author has an agenda. Politicians are corrupt and the military has bad people who turn 10 year old boys into suicide bombers.

The Protagonist flips from being a guy who can't tell whether or not an Archivist likes him and gets tongue tied trying to compliment her at dinner to James Bond who banged a Hot CIA Operative in the field.

Don't be fooled by the beginning chapters centering on the Kennedy assassination and remarkable unearthed evidence.. this plot line will wither as James Flynn ends up single-handedly battling a Russian communist terrorist group.

Here the author is completely out of his depth. The ex-CIA operative turned investigative reporter is apparently a bus riding super hero. He kicks ass like Rambo on Steroids.

The writing is awful and the dialogue is laughable.

Excerpts for your enjoyment
'He causally(sic) walked up the steps'
'an agenda that Sanford openly braced(sic)'
'the guise of night'
'Away from the auspices of the Press'

James Flynn, former CIA operative and now a journalist, has rubbed a few people the wrong way over his career. Revealing evidence that Ronald Reagan had used his resources to spy on his Presidential opponent, a report his CIA bosses would have rather kept buried, has made him a celebrity with the Conspiracy Theory crowds and he's often called on to comment on stories that fall into that category.
When new evidence begins coming his way about the JFK assassination, it's just too good to pass up, even though he's been warned to stay off that particular road.
When his first source is murdered after speaking to him, Flynn knows he must be on to something good!

There are several overlapping plots with the CIA, the President and Vice-President as well as a Communist group, and Mr. Patterson, kept me pinging back and forth and still not knowing who to trust and whose motives were going to win out. Will this be another JFK type assassination or will we be at war with Russia?

I especially enjoyed this one, because it really was about Flynn and his thoughts and actions even though each character has their own agenda, Flynn's is about the truth.

If you like fast paced thrillers, this is your book. I think it's a safe be that we all know the government and the CIA lie to us a lot, so this plot is very believable.
My favorite line in the book tells us quite a bit about Flynn. " Just understanding the level of dishonesty in the world was enough to make any man cynical". And while Flynn may be cynical, it feels like he hasn't lost all hope quite yet.

Mr. Patterson is someone I hope we will be hearing a lot more from!

The title suggests that this book is about the Kennedy Assassination. While it starts off in that direction the book veers in a very different direction. James Flynn, ex-CIA, is now an investigative reporter. As the story opens he is intrigued by some leads about who really killed JFK including video footage which shows another shooter at the grassy knoll. But the real question is:who organized the killing and why? Here the author begins to stretch the bounds of credulity. He stumbles on leads which seem to implicate a secret Russian terrorist group operating outside the strictures of the Russian government. This group is planning to assassinate the current President and has the means to blackmail the Vice-President to launch missiles at Russia once he assumes office. Flynn partially stymies the assassination attempt but the President ends up in a coma; it is not clear whether he will live or die. The Vice-President is named acting President and is ready to launch the missiles. Flynn parachutes into the Urals and saves the day.

Not quite believable and the writing would benefit from a good editor.

Another great "who really did it" thriller

A beautiful puzzle of events, from beginning to the end. With Flynn getting a document of a cover up about JFK assassination. Then a deathbed confession, as the investigation unravels a more sinister plot. Can Flynn stop it, and you're wanting him to succeed. The love interest with Natalie was a nice touch
Great strong plot, and can be enjoyed by all.

I recommend this book to people who love to read. My e-copy was free.

For readability, the book is worthy of four stars. The poor editing ate one star, but I liked the characters and the storyline. Tom Clancy might have made the book longer, but I thought the book length was just right. I did not like the gender neutral names of the characters, but the author spared the reader a man named 'Sue.' The author gave me a good sense of my surroundings from the Ural Mountains to the USA and points between the two.

I started this read thinking I would pick up another aspect of the JFK assassination conspiracy. The lone gunman' theory makes no sense, but the author did not linger on the assassination at all. I was a little disappointed in that regard. Readers may recall the film footage of Mrs. Kennedy crawling on the trunk of the presidential limousine after the shots were fired. 'JACKIE CRAWLS FOR HELP' said LOOK or LIFE Magazine, I forget which one. Some people say she was crawling away from the intended target in an effort to save her own life. Did Mrs. Connelly(sp) duck and cover or crawl?

Although I started and stopped this book ten times before reading it straight through, I did find it entertaining.
Be careful not to confuse 'Jack' with 'James.'

Thank you, Mr. Patterson, for a good read.

This is an enjoyable thriller with the JFK assassination in the background as a modern day conspiracy leads the world to the brink of war. The characters are quite realistic, and the interactions clarify the problems of politics, espionage, and the post cold war period. The writing is straight-forward and makes for an easy read. I was able to complete the book in one sitting, which was good because it is very difficult to put down.

The beginning of the book really had my attention with the new footage of the Kennedy assassination and possibly knowing once and for all who really did kill get Kennedy. When it started going more towards the Russians and never really did come back to the Kennedy assassination I lost interest. It felt more like a political thriller which really doesn't excite me too much and the James Flynn character felt a little too good to be true.

Good writing but not a very strong story plot. At the outset the book was good and I was hooked but when the hero began getting untied and his sense of aim improved despite being out of the CIA for a number of years, it took a rapid decline and sank to the bottom! I think that this story deserves 2-and-a-half stars but I gave it three stars anyway . . . consider it a miraculous escape!

Disappointed.

At the beginning had potential, never cleared who was the man at the grassy knoll. Scenes, actions, fights ending was unbelievable. No character development, plots was unbelievable, fake. Many things happened, chapters ending without any explanation. Kept asking "how could that happen"?

Conspiracy readers enjoy

Another take on JFK who done it. But the more current cold war tale was entertaining. Facts a cornucopia for political truth. Politics a game of power and self advancement dictates the truth of the hour.

An Excellent Benchmark!

Patterson raises spy, international mystery and intrigue to a new level with "The Warren Omissions." Lots of action, emotion and surprises worth reading. Just a fun, enjoyable read.

If you like Cussler, you should like this

A decent fast paced thriller. The title was not what I expected. It did not deal with as much about the assassination as I thought. It was more of a Cussler novel.

The Warren Omissions

The Warren Omissions is a James Flynn story. Although it had a lot of potential, it just didn't engage me. It seemed very shallow, developing neither plot nor characters very deeply. Disappointing.

Very enjoyable

Great story line, great characters. Interesting spin on political corruption. A little longing left at the end to know what happens with certain characters. Will read more of this author's work.

I loved this book. It is an excellent read. I would recommend this book to anyone interesting in political thrillers.

I liked the entire book . It was well written and the other contained just enough suspense. I wish the author success in his writing efforts.

As I usually do, I'm going to critique as I read.

I'm about a third of the way through the book, and so far so good as far as overall plot goes. It's a little eerie that I am reading this now with all the political upheaval occurring in the US currently (I'm going to refrain from entering into any political debates, however, since this is neither the time not the place for them).

My first beef could be considered a continuity error of sorts, and is something that I just let slide until now (it wasn't big enough to mention if it was going to be the only thing that bothered me in the book, but since I ran into something else, I'll bring it up). It concerns an offhand comment made when Flynn was traveling to Texas to get the video, where he says that he doesn't routinely travel across the country to go to strange people's homes for 'proof' of any number of conspiracy theories. Yet just a few chapters before he was more than willing to travel to get the letter from the lady? (Sorry, details are sketchy in my head since it was read over a month ago and flipping back to find it is a little less easy when reading this as an ebook.) Maybe because the first person was female makes it okay and the second person was male makes it not? I don't know...

My second beef comes a little later in the book and stopped me dead when I read it. We have the Vice President finding out his daughter that he thought had died 16 years previously could be alive still based on a photo. But apparently the bigger meaning for him in finding out the authenticity of the photo directs his thoughts to his relationship with the president and his own job and not what most parents would be thinking (which would be something along the lines of 'oh my god, oh my god, my daughter is ALIVE'). SMH. Opportunity lost to make the VP just a teeny bit human.

Another beef is with the so called secret phone calls and secret emails that the vice president recieved. I'm sorry, there is no way they wouldn't be able to trace then back to him. ESPECIALLY since he's receiving and sending them FROM THE WHITE HOUSE. We live in an era where if you DON'T assume that everything you say and do is recorded in some fashion you're a fool. Doubly so if you're in some sort of position of power. Whether it's the good guys or the bad guys, someone is watching/listening.

Now here's a little niggle that bothered me enough to mention. When Flynn gets captured (which is just stupid IMHO... why the hell didn't the assassin just, oh I don't know... KILL HIM TOO?! But no, let's just leave a witness alive...) and he and Natalie are evesdropping on their captors, the author felt the need to add dialog in Russian (Cyrillic). Why? Is the book in Russian? No. Does the PoV character at the moment speak Russian? No (although why he doesn't is baffling considering he's ex CIA, and probably should... oh wait, we find out a few chapters later that lo and behold he DOES speak Russian.... FFS, make up your mind.). This is something that even a mediocre editor should have flagged to delete, or to change to paraphrase, or have Natalie give an English translation. As it is, it just looks like the author is an amateur trying to impress someone. And speaking of Natalie and her Russian fluency... a person who can listen in another language sure as shit would be able to speak it (to the extent that they understand it spoken to them). The general notion is people are verbal-fluent but not necessarily written-fluent.

I know I said I wasn't going to get into a political discussion, but I guess at this point in the story I have to - at least a little bit. All I'm going to say is this... if you're going to write a political thriller, then you'd better bone up on the politics part. Every time an aspect of politics arises in the book the writing sounds like the author went to the wiki page du jour on the subject and started pasting parts of it into the book without actually taking the time to understand what he was writing about. I'm not even American and I think I know more about the American political system than the author comes across as knowing. I'm guessing though that a lot of that is due to the media coverage outside of the US dissecting the US political system since the clown became president and made the US the laughing stock of the world (sorry, end of political rant...).

Ok... I'm now about 3/4 through this book and what started out as a kinda sorta palusible plot has devolved into a complete laughable farce. I don't even know where to start it's so ridiculous.

First off, there is ABSOLUTLY no way he would have been sent on an off the books mission, yet still use CIA resources. Why? Because then it would no longer be off the books. DUH.

Secondly, Ivan would have had to choose the identity he was going to use BEFORE getting to the airport because everyone carries around a dozen different costumes with them... plus, last time I checked dreads are a Carribean thing not Nigerian...

Now let's look at the little issue with the whole conspiracy to make everyone think Briggs isn't in a coma... please... you can't honestly believe that there isn't a single orderly or nurse or some other disgruntled hospital worker who wouldn't roll over given enough money to foil that plot...

There are half a dozen more absurdities I was going to comment on, but now that I'm finished this train-wreck of a book, I'll just wash my hands of it and be done. It's bad... REALLY bad. The ending does absolutely nothing to clear up what the write up of the book promised. And further to that, the ending is so fraught with inaccuracies and unrealistitic actions that I'm amazed I stuck with it till the end.

I will concede that the whole point of writing fiction is to make stuff up... but I'll also counter that when writing THIS kind of fiction, you actually do need to have a clue about the base topics you are writing about... and it became very obvious that this author just didn't have a clue...

The Warren Omissions. Jack Patterson

As the title suggests, omissions by the Warren Commission regarding the assassination of President Kennedy. A terrorist group "Kuklovod" unknown to most intelligence agencies. Now they plan to assassinate POTUS and start WWIII. There goal, to instill and promote true communism. Which I'm sure you know, has never existed. Enter James Flynn ex CIA operative. Now investigative reporter. His former handler has pulled him into the fray. This is an action filled action thriller. I enjoyed tremendously

I really enjoy the book, even though most reviews told me to expect to hate it.

I agree it’s very fast paced and in some parts pretty unrealistic but that’s what fiction is about right? I also don’t think the main character was built up enough.

I really enjoy this type of story though (political thriller maybe?). I enjoyed that it was full of action, I enjoyed the fast paced events later on. So yeah, give it a read if you are into this kind of book=(Aka, presidents, politics, war). Tip don’t take it seriously, it’s fiction.

Flynn is a former CIA agent who now writes exposes on topics such as "Who really was behind JFK's assassination?" In the process of doing his second career, Flynn is drawn back into CIA workings...and, in the process, manages to save the world from nuclear war. (Not bad for a day's work! )

While somewhat predictable, this is a good read to escape with on a long plane ride, or to while away a rainy day. The first of a series.

An easy-read thriller that was too improbable to be enjoyable. The protagonist is one of the most ridiculous and dislikable characters I've read. I ended up skimming the last third just to see if it got better, but the twists got even more extreme, they left me shaking my head. Gave this the second star because the writing style is very good. Unfortunately the plot and characters just aren't. I rarely read a book where I thoroughly dislike every single character so this did stand out for that.

A new and fascinating character

It takes me awhile to get acquainted with a new character but with Flynn it didn't take long. Another fast moving realistic thriller. Gets his tough points across without profanity which i appreciate. I do not like to miss any sleep ever but I stayed up to midnight to finish this great nail biter!!
