I was planning on writing a review a few months from now (I figured that would be enough time to see whether or not this stuff actually works), but I’ve seen enough.

I’m 24, and have loved running ever since middle school. However, every time I’ve started to ramp up my miles, I’ve had to quit due to debilitating knee and hip pain. About a month ago I started this cycle again, and ended up finding this book while looking for a solution. In just ~3 weeks, I feel completely different while running. My stride is more efficient, I’m no longer in pain, and I can feel myself using muscles that I’d never used before while running (proprioception is real).

Lastly, here are a few notes that you may find helpful:

1) I was a bit confused while reading in the beginning. It is very clear and concise, but I just wasn’t sure HOW Dicharry intended for us to use it. Here’s the conclusion I’ve come to:

Read the whole thing. It may get a bit dull sometimes, but there are some super helpful nuggets that will help you big time. You’ll learn a bunch.

While you’re reading through the book, I don’t think it’s necessary to stop and do the exercises (though I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt if you did). He revisits all of them at the end in about 15 different workout routines that you can cycle through to strengthen different components needed for running. So don’t feel overwhelmed while you’re working your way through!

2) Dicharry has posted videos on YouTube for some of the exercises, so if you are unsure how to perform some of them correctly that may be worth checking out.

3) As others have pointed out, the workouts usually take significantly longer to complete than he claims. For this reason, you should block out extra time. But DON’T LET THIS STOP YOU! It is so worth it!

Sorry for the novel.

I was a skeptic, but I am 100% sold. Give this a try.

I’ve been working on fixing my form to help reduce related injuries, and this book has immensely helped in my endeavor. You need to get the actual book, because it has pictures and exercises that probably won’t transfer to audio or on a kindle. It’s very scientific and makes sense for both recreational runners and pros alike.

A lot of good research and explanation but when you only give examples/sample plans for new runners, HS runners, Masters Runners and Elite runners, you miss a HUGE audience. Luckily with my athletic training and running background I will be able to incorporate and create a sample plan that matches where I fit as a runner.

The exercises and programs seem to all “make sense” and I am looking forward to incorporating them into these next 11 weeks with my training cycle for my next half marathon.

Running Rewired is a practical guide for runners seeking to structure and optimize their strength routines. It is a program with practical tips and exercises, written for those looking to put in the work. It is not written nor formatted for Kindle readers. The photographs are unclear and it is difficult to go back and forth and cross reference on a Kindle. I recommend this book in physical form for those looking for a how-to guide on runner specific strength training.

I definitely need to buy a copy of this one for my home library. Wish I had this book back when I was a high school XC runner and getting back into endurance running post college. This book would have saved me a lot of time, money, & tears from avoidable injuries! Excited to try some of the strength workouts recommended in this one. Loved all the research included!

The author, Jay Dicharry, does a terrific job of explaining how the body works while running, what you can do to optimize your mechanical efficiency through effective drills and strength exercises. He explains it all in easy to understand and implementable way.

A video companion would take this book from great to next level, as photos can only do so much. But all in all still a phenomenal resource for any coach or athlete wanting to complement their running with strength and mobility.

Still one of the best books for well composed and clearly explained exercises and workouts for runners.
I am not particularly into the buddy writing style, but it serves the cause of filling the pages and making it a mostly easy and digestible read.
