Robby
I'm not about to let the strikes against me keep me from winning back the woman I love. Circumstances put Carina into my path again and I'll be damned if I don't prove to her I'm not the boy she left four years ago, but the man who can give her everything she wants and deserves. All I need is a chance and it looks like the universe is giving it to me.

Carina
Leaving Robby was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Now, I have to rely on him to help me win a grant that will make my dream come true. I couldn't count on him all those years ago. Can things have changed? The way he makes me feel certainly hasn't. Those blue eyes and sexy smirks may remind me of the boy I once loved, but giving him another chance may be my undoing.

Behind in the Count, is a sports romance that follows a professional baseball player recovering from a setback and trying to win the college sweetheart he neglected after getting drafted. This light hearted rom-com is full of witty banter, heartfelt displays of love, and plenty of spice. This second chance romance is the first in the Nashville Songbirds Series and part of the Nashverse interconnected universe to come. It is a full length, 18+ open door contemporary romcom with a guaranteed HEA!

I don’t always like 2nd chance romance, but this was really well done and you could really see the growth of the characters and how they worked hard to give their relationship a chance. Carina and Robert were so cute together. The nicknames and banter was so fun!

'Behind in the Count' is a second chance romance between Robby, a major league baseball pitcher and Carina, a non-profit programs director. It is simple, easy to follow story, but the leads lack chemistry for this type of story to ring successful. Perhaps this is attuned to the animated like cover picture and character personalities and development leaving me wanting more. Or that the author has Robby "coo" too many times. Guys don't coo. Nonetheless, I more or less enjoyed it on a surface level.

Robert. Roberto. Robby. Bobert. Rob. Carina. Tini-Rini. Care bear. Care. Bambolina. Enough already!

I have never heard/read the phrase "I'm gonna hot the head" before. I had to look it up. It's weird. And I am confident to say, uncommon.

How can someone who works outside of your organization (for the sponsoring organization no less) be a part of your team? Each team needs to comprise of employees of the same organization. And it is a conflict of interest to include someone from the sponsoring organization on any team.

Ballerini or Francelli? Both last names are used for Carina's family. So, which is it? Later, both are used together, but their uses are inconsistent.

Don't say 'boner.' This is not a cartoon or a story of stoned high schoolers. Use the more adult term, 'erection' instead.

Carina turns 25 midway through the book. She and Robby had a class together in college. She had a year remaining after he left to play professional baseball. Therefore, he is, it would appear, a year older. After college, he spent two years in the minors, and has been played in the major leagues for four years. This would make him, likely, 28. The age timeline seems a little wonky to me.

Quotes that do not make sense to me:
(1) "Not that I want to win her back...I may not know what I want to do...if I ever have the chance to call her mine again...no way in hell I’d let her go." You don't want to, you don't know, if you could, you'd never let her go. Once again, which is it?
(2) "On the drive home, we blessedly change the subject to work stuff. As we get back to the office..." On a Thursday, after lunch, one does not drive home as is initially said, but rather, goes back to the office, which was conversely confirmed in the following sentence.
(3) "“Strike one,” I hear the umpire yell." I have never heard an umpire yell the strike number aloud.
(4) "It will have to wait until we’re, though, because..." Is the word 'alone' missing?
(5) " I am going to melt into a puddle of tension..." Isn't tension bad? And this sentence describes more of a puddle of goo situation.
(6) "Continue you on then.” Huh? I think you should be eliminated.
(7) "I love...the life we have, but I wasn’t the one I had planned." The second 'I' should be 'it.'
(8) "...I only fit her into my life when it’s convenient for her.” Convenient for you [me], not her. If it was convenient for her, you would not have a problem.

This was the cutest second chance romance I’ve read in a while.

Meet Carina, our spicy Italian FMC, the most loyal, supportive and genuine person you could have in your corner. She works for a non profit organization that focuses on feeding those less fortunate. Mother Teresa anyone? She has spent the last 4 years getting over a breakup that left her in pieces. With the help of her besties, she has finally found her place in the world and is focusing on her and what she wants. When an opportunity presents itself to finally get the funds she needs to start her mobile food truck to reach even more needy families in her city, she doesn’t hesitate and with that decision she finds herself face to face with the heartache that has plagued her all these years.
Enter Robby “Dirty Mouth” Becker, MLB pitcher, heartthrob and Carina’s kryptonite. Did he spend the last 4 years since their breakup focusing on becoming not just one of the top pitchers in the league BUT, also the man he should have been for Carina? Yes, yes he has. Did he ever imagine he would get a second chance at proving where his priorities are with Carina? No, no he did not. Did he surpass expectations and in the process ruin my…ermmm Carina’s panties? Yasssss he did! If you’re a praise girly, like myself, then you need Mr. Becker in your life.

This was such a fun, spicy, and romantic story. The beginning is a bit of a slow burn, but once Rob communicates his intentions to Carina, it’s on like Donkey Kong! 🙌🏼🤭 Robby and Carina as a couple are just the cutest, the way he has never forgotten all her favorite little things had me melting in a puddle of my own…well you know 😈. Carina stood her ground and demanded nothing less than what she deserved, to be Robby’s number 1 priority and not some obligation. 👏🏼👏🏼 YAS QUEEN!
I connected with every character I was introduced to and enjoyed the banter not just with our MCs, but our side characters too. I cannot wait to read about Lola’s story next, that poor girl definitely deserves a HEA!

I was blessed to be able to read and review Kat’s debut novel, Behind in the Count! It’s the first in The Nashville Songbirds series and is a second chance romance for baseball lovers.

I’m a huge sports romance reader and I typically have a more difficult time reading baseball books, but Behind in the Count was the perfect balance of baseball to romance for me!

Robby and Carina are endgame…until they’re not. Four years later, they find themselves working side by side, and in order for both of them to make their individual dreams come true, they have to find a way to work together.

Things I enjoyed about this book:
•good communication from the characters as adults
•FMC knows her worth and holds her own
•MMC is a simp for FMC
•supporting characters are cute and I will definitely read their stories when they arrive
•supporting theme in the book is philanthropy
•no third act break up (but things aren’t all roses and daisies 😉)

I will always be honest about my reviews, otherwise we’re totally missing the point! The only thing that I didn’t care for in the story was the use of the nickname Kitten. It’s not the nickname itself that bothered me, just that it was used a lot (but the FMC loves it, so I get it!). I feel this way in most books, and I know that others love that kind of thing, it’s just not my bag.

Overall, this was a great debut novel for Kat, and I’m excited to see how her writing evolves as she continues the series.

“I may have lost my way a bit, but you never left my heart. I’ve told you baby, you’re it for me.”

Book: Behind in the Count (Nashville Songbirds book1)
Author: Kat Summers

Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️

When Robby broke Carina's heart, she was set on never having to see him again. She moved on and had no plans to look back. But when her college sweetheart turned MLB star gets roped into coaching her charity softball league, these two are left with no choice but to be shoved back into each other's lives. For better or worse. But as we find out with these two, sometimes love is worth a second chance❤️

This second chance, forced proximity, baseball romance was absolutely adorable! The relationship between Robby and Carina was so heartwarming and I loved the redemption arc Robby had! He was dead set on winning his woman back and we love a man who isn’t afraid to grovel🙏🏻 and Carina is a strong, feisty, badass with a big ole heart! She was such a great FMC and I truly enjoyed her POV in this book. Not to mention, the spice was spicing in this one!😮‍💨🔥

I can’t believe this is Kat’s debut novel! The writing was immersive and the characters were well developed. The plot was captivating and I couldn’t wait to turn the page. I will say, there are a lot of side characters to keep track of that I did get a little lost at times but over all, this book was a very fun read! Can’t wait for more of the Nashville Songbirds🐦🎶

**ARC Review**

Move over Hockey, Baseball is coming in hot. 🔥

Not sure how this is Kat Summers first book, because she absolutely killed it. She just paved the way for a great series with the Nashville Songbirds. Not only she did create an enjoyable book, but she created characters that you instantly connect with and want more from. Her writing style proves that she can write a strong female lead thats sassy and lovable.

This is a top notch second chance romance. It’s a great story that switch from present to past, and keeps you engaged with the couple original break up, but keeps you rooting for them in the present. All while making it a believable reconnection for the characters and makes a statement that even thought you have great communication in your relationship, sometimes you need more.

If you are a sports romance lover… this book is for you.

If you are a second chance trope lover… this books is for you.

If you love sassy and witty characters… this book is for you.

If you love margarita’s and chips and guac… this book is definitely for you.

Behind in the Count is a great story of personal growth and character development. I highly recommend read it, so these characters can live rent free in your head like they do in mine! Can’t wait for this to be in people’s hands on August 15th.

This is book 1 in the Nashville Songbirds series. Each story is an interconnected standalone following a different couple and can be read in any order. This is Carina and Robby's story.

-Second Chance romance
-Sports romance
-Professional baseball player
-forced proximity
-He falls first

This second chance love story is such a fun summer read. Carina is passionate about feeding the hungry and is working towards a permanent career in that field. Robby is the pro baseball player who is on his way to the big leagues. One promise broken and all is over for the young lovers. Several years later Carina needs money for a current project and is saddled with finding a sponsor. It just so happens that Robby is in town rehabbing after an injury and their paths cross. Can they find their way back to each other and forget the past or will their fears destroy everything?

This is the perfect summer read to get you in the mood for summer. Flirty banter and angsty moments had me devouring this story wondering will they or won't they.... I enjoyed the slow burn and witty banter between our MMC's. If you love a good sports romance that will hit you int he feels, this book is for you. I am so excited to read the rest in the series.

Do you love sports romances? How about second chance? Spicy open door scenes? Cute drive-in movie dates? Characters that feel like you could be friends with them? If so, this is THE book for you!

Behind in the Count is Kat Summers’ debut novel that features a second chance, baseball romance. Robby and Carina were college sweethearts until they broke up for some very good reasons (lookin at you Robby 👀). Years later, they reconnect while Robby is recovering from a UCL injury in Memphis on the AAA baseball team. He is assigned to be one of the coaches for Carina’s team for a charity softball tournament. This forces both of them to see each other’s growth since they broke up, which in turn allows them to start with a newfound friendship.

I binged this book so fast. It was SO good, you’d think that this was 2-3 books into a series, but it’s a DEBUT. The friendships were solid and I really felt like I could feel the love between them. I’m so excited for the rest of this series and to see the stories that the “side” characters get!

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but Kat’s writing just doesn’t do it for me.

The premise of the story is fine, the characters are okay, but overall it’s just… bland. And boring.

It doesn’t bring up any emotions in me. It doesn’t make me laugh, doesn’t make me giggle, I’m not swooned and I’m not upset either at any point.
It just falls flat.

Ok, it did make me cringe once, when during the spicy scenes the mmc called some of her parts “velvety”. Yeah, no. No man would ever use that word in bed (I guess women wouldn’t either?) and it completely killed the mood the scene was trying to set for me.

In general - it’s not bad but it’s not good either. I think I’ll give it one more chance, since I already got the next book in the series, but I don’t think I’ll keep going with Kat Summers’ books beyond that.

This book is absolutely amazing!

Behind in the Count is the best second chance romance I have ever read. Carina and Robby’s relationship is just as heart melting as their past is heart breaking.
Kat Summers did an amazing jobs with these characters, and the development in them shown throughout the book! Carina is so strong and independent while also being generous and caring. Robby is hard working and loyal, but also incredibly sweet towards Karina. Carina and Robby balance one another out so beautifully! I love that you can just feel how much they love each other while reading this. 🤍

At first I wanted to hate Robby. I could stand his attitude and outlook on life and that he felt like he was most important. I wanted to yank him through the book and slap him around but instead I just kept reading. Carina deserved so much and she always put her heart and soul into helping others. So happy Robby happened to be dropped right where she was for a second chance! I thought I was going to be mad at Robby for a second time but thankfully he got his head on right! Nashville had a great thing coming when Robby and Carina came back stronger than ever!

KAT thank you so much for this amazing ARC!!!
I loved this story from the start. I loved Carina from the start. She’s so kind and selfless and you immediately see why Robert hasn’t moved on in the 4 years since he broke her heart. I love that Robert knows he messed up and is ready to prove carina he’s in it. I loved this wonderful 2nd chance romance!

I love good character development in books and both of them had it! 😍

A wonderful debut! I love a sports romance and a second chance so I really enjoyed this!

Robby neglected his college girlfriend, Carina, 4 years ago for his MLB career. Now, they’re back in the same city and he’s helping coach her charity softball team.

Once he decides he wants Carina back, he grovels! I always love a good grovel so that was fun! I didn’t love the conflict being very similar to the original conflict.

Otherwise, the story was fun and the spice was spicin’ 🌶🌶

I love a good sports romance and even more a second chance romance. Although I had my doubts about if Robbie deserved a second chance but he eventually won me (and Carina) over. Their story was sweet, and spicy and we stan a badass FMC. The character development was really well done; I enjoyed seeing their growth throughout the book.

Favorite things in the book:
Things I enjoyed about this book:
•good communication from the characters as adults
•FMC knows her worth and has a very much take-no-shit attitude
•FMC is focused on giving back to the community; a different type of boss babe
•Diverse Characters
•Baseball romance
•Great supporting characters

There were definitely some spelling/grammar issues that at times made it hard to focus on the story, but I understand that comes with an ARC. Hopefully, these are resolved in the final copy.

Thank you to Kat and The Author Agency for the advanced copy.

I was honored to be an ARC reader for this book and I am so glad. The story of two people finding each other again is a favorite and this book does not disappoint. I love a sassy gal who dish it out and a guy who takes it but gives it back. Carina and Robby are cute couple goals. Add in a dash of fun friends and baseball and it’s a winner.

📖BOOK REC📖

I have to thank the Jedi that @katsummerswrites has gifted us Robby Becker.

This is my first baseball romance and I am converted!! I cannot wait to read the other books.
I’m also a sucker for second chance romances and this one delivers!!! Robbie and Carina were college sweethearts until he chose his baseball career over his girl.

We all know I don’t do spoilers so you’ll have it read to find out what happens. BUT I will say this: Robby is going straight to the top of your book boyfriend list, and Carina, the sassy, stunning and charitable girl, is going to the top of your girl crush list.

I'm not a big fan of second-chance romances. However, I love baseball so I gave it a swing. This was an easy fun read. There is some spice but still has a storyline. I thought this was a great debut novel and Kat's writing will improve with each new story. I liked Robbie and who he became for Carina. I loved Lola and can't wait to read her story next.

But the story is relatable and the spicy parts were good lol.
