For the Gods' Sake is a fake dating, reluctant allies fantasy romance novel. It is the third book in the Tempt the Gods series and can be read as a standalone, but it is recommended to read the recap at the beginning of the book.
A god and a princess. Working together.
The Greek and Roman gods have co-existed for over two thousand years until the unthinkable happens. Adrian Zeus Jupiter was born from the unexpected, scandalous love affair between his mother, Lady Zeus, and his father, Lord Jupiter. Now, close to three decades later, his birth has forced the gods to combine into one system. While most have accepted the change, there has been a conspiracy brewing—one that threatens Adrian's rule and life.
To save his line, Adrian turns to the one person who could eclipse his fame—Reyna Romulus. As the people's princess and the heir to the most powerful business in the Mediterranean, Reyna is the balm to Adrian's reputation he desperately needs to smooth things over while he dismantles the conspiracy. Little does he know, Reyna needs him just as badly.
As the threat against the gods mounts and their lives are threatened, Adrian and Reyna's arranged relationship will be tested, along with their promise to not fall in love with each other.
Tropes: - Fake Dating - “Who did this to you?” - Fated Mates - “control” (iykyk) - Angst
- Thoughts: This is my first book by Rory Scott & i will definitely be going back & reading the first two in this series.
This follows Adrian Zeus Jupiter the King of Gods & Reyna Romulus a human “princess” in a fake relationship that may help each of them get what they want.
First things first, I ADORE anything Greek mythology related, & when i realized this was a romance based on Greek & Roman deities i couldn’t say no, i really enjoyed the authors take on the deities & world building & how she brought the two myths together.
From the first few pages I fell in love with the setting & the bits & pieces we got about the characters & their powers & personalities, & the pacing was done beautifully, even if i wanted more of them by the end. 🤭
Adrian is my first favorite of 2024 & Reyna is a Queen! (Also, I’m very excited for Persy’s story.🤭)
You should absolutely check this book out, especially if you’re a fan of the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert, you will NOT be disappointed!!✨💕
An eARC was provided by the Author for an honest review.
A huge thank you to Rory for sending me an ARC of For The Gods’ Sake 🙏
Since starting this series I KNEW that Adrian’s book would be one that I would end up loving and LOVING is what I did indeed 👏
Everything about this book was AMAZING, Rory is a literal mastermind planning every nook and crook from the start of the series till this very recent book and I absolutely LOVE IT 🫶🏼
The fake dating of this book COOKED 👩🍳💋
Adrian and Reyna are INCREDIBLE, PHENOMENAL and OUT OF THIS WORLD.
They’re that one couple that gives me INSANE Bi-Panic and that radiate powerful couple energy 🤩
If I could devout myself to Adrian, besties trust me I WOULD 😮💨
This book is the perfect concoction of angst, romance, fantasy, chemistry and endless amount of sexual tension. I must IMPLORE all my Romantasy loving friends to pick this series up, I literally BEG YOU 🧎🏻♀️
This series deserves so much attention and hype, it has everything any romantasy reader could want and more. I cannot wait for you guys to read this book!! Because let me once again tell u all that LIVES WERE CHANGED.
I literally read this book in an entire day, that’s how excited I was for it!!! 🙌
For the Gods' Sake is a delicious mythology inspired fake dating romance. This is the third installment of Tempt the Gods, and it follows Adrian Zeus Jupiter, the king of the Gods, and Reyna Romulus, "princess" of Rome, as they work together to boost Adrian's reputation and get Reyna's father to compromise on terms of his business.
I am definitely going to step back and read the first 2 books in this series in time for the 4th book coming out in the spring! This was what I wanted from Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series: modern Gods, conspiracies, and some steamy romance. This is 100% a better option to that series!!
The banter between Adrian and Reyna was delightful, and the tension was definitely there too. I seriously adored this... sweet??? portrayal of Zeus. I tend towards hating Zeus because, you know, he was the biggest prick of all the Olympians... but our Adrian is trying SO HARD to take care of the world and we love him for it.
Also... the romance? Chef's kiss. I love a good fake dating trope with jealousy, a dominating man, sassy woman, and sexy sexy tension! I can always use more spice in books, but honestly their relationship outside the bedroom was steamy enough that I didn't even find myself missing the spice too much.
Keep an eye on Rory L Scott, because this was fantastic!
Note: An eARC was provided by Rory Scott to write this advance review of For the Gods' Sake.
For the Gods' Sake is the third book in the Tempt the Gods series. I recommend you read this in order because the plot is on going but every romance is between different couples. This one is about Adrian, A.K.A. Lord Jupiter, and Reyna, a well known wealthy socialite. This is a fake dating, greek mythology, fantasy romance.
ya'll this book!!! *internally screaming* ugh, i loved this book so much! this book and this series in general is so addicting. this book gave everything it needed to give and more. i ate this book up! i really loved Adrian and seeing how he essentially has the whole world on his shoulders, being a god and all, and how he struggles with that but doesn't let anything sway him. he is a master of control except when it comes to Reyna. Reyna was so easy to love and that may be because she is literally me if i was a book character haha. she is so strong and confident. she has this power to her even though she is just a human that is magnetic!
Adrian offers this mutually beneficial fake dating relationship to Reyna and he pulls out all the stops. the angst was there, the tension!! the "is this real?" was driving this book! something that the author does amazingly well is the chemistry between the characters. its the small things yall and they are so monumental to the story. the small touches, the hand placements, the gifts! ugh so many things about this book that i loved. the dates, the jealousy scenes, the banter, omg you guys! so good i could die!! something we dont see often is a jealous heroine and we definitely get this in this one but dont get it twisted! Adrian is still jealous, possessive, protective, and a gorgeous gorgeous man! *sighs dreamily*
again, the plot is on going so i wont talk to much about it since i dont want to spoil but i was thoroughly entertained. the little twist there at the end had me gagged but then i caught on to what the author was doing and i was HERE FOR IT.
overall, i will be thinking about this book for the whole year and i can't wait to re-read this already! definitely recommend and worth the read!
I love these books so much! I’ve been very impatiently waiting for Adrian’s book since I finished the second one in August. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT 🥵
A fake relationship between a human Princess and the KING OF GODS, need I say more? As always, the tension was painful in the best way and the romance/spice was 10/10. You will fall in love with Adrian & Reyna and melt along the way 🫠
The Roman/Greek Gods & mythology is sprinkled in nicely in a way that doesn’t make it confusing or overwhelming. I would say these books are more on the contemporary romance side with fantasy elements - definitely don’t have to suffer through so much world building, but there’s still political intrigue and magical elements present.
We definitely get some more answers in the conspiracy we’ve been trying to figure out through the last 2 books. Rory loves to give us a heart attack and keep us on the edge of our seats while fearing for our lives but IT’S FUN 😅
These books are just such a good time. I don’t have to think, and there’s no boring lead up - it’s just genuinely enjoyable from page one. I fly through them every time. Can’t wait for more!
I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I will say I haven’t read any of the other Tempt the Gods books but I don’t think it’s 100% necessary to enjoy this book.
Adrian is the King of the Gods, aka Jupiter/Zeus and needs to keep his reputation and image perfect. Learning there is talk of him not being worthy of his title, what’s a man to do, except ask the one woman he’s ignored for years, to be his girlfriend.
Reyna, is a mortal, set to inherit her father’s company, but he has stipulations that she doesn’t completely agree with. Knowing her father isn’t the biggest fan of Adrian, she agrees to date him, if only so her father will change the stipulations.
While overall I enjoyed the story, the beginning felt slightly dragged out, whereas the ending was rushed to me. There is a chart of names at the front of the book, but I had to keep going back to it to keep everyone straight, but adding first names made it even harder to remember who was who.
The spice was a solid 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 as they were tame in the details. As if it was an open door scene, but with a slightly sheer curtain draped across it.
Im slowly finishing up this series!! And I think this by far is my favorite one. I absolutely loved this book, for the very first chapter it had me hooked. Something about the flirty banter just did it for me. The entire time I was giggling and kicking my feet.
This book was so well written with like less than 2 smut chapters it was so refreshing to read about a book that doesn’t use sex to replace actual plot. And since there was only like 2 sex scenes we got so much more relationship building. I loved it. This book is technically a marriage of convenience, even though it stays that for like a chapter before they are in love with each other. But in this instance it’s okay because they are fated 🤭 This book also plays into this whole the MMC had alway liked the FMC type of trope and I was ALL for it.
I didn’t expect to love Adrian as much as I did but I loved his character to much and learning about all he goes through as Lord Jupiter especially since we got to see how much hate he got throughout the other 2 books. I’m glad he got his happy ending, because he deserved it.
Note: I loved seeing him have “feeling” it was so funny to read

Perfection on the page! My sincerest thank you to my dear friend Rory for crafting this book and bestowing me the honor of reading this book early - and for allowing me to flood her with all of my reactions.
Where to begin? Adrian and Reyna were chef's kiss. The tension of their fake dating, the vulnerability behind the pretending, the adoration they had for each other - I just fell in love with it all. As Kimberly and I proclaimed over and over again, we would gladly devout ourselves to them. When I say romantasy is my favorite genre, I'm pointing to this perfect mix of greek mythology, sexual tension, and captivating plot.
Woven into their story is the culmination of a suspenseful plot that finally reveals Rory's best-kept secret! I cannot wait for others to unravel this.
And lastly, I need to shout out the hilariously heartwarming friendships displayed. Rose, Dominic, Daphne, Lukas, Reyna, and Adrian are all my babies!
This series deserves all the love and praise. Thank you again Rory! Scotties forever!
I am screaming!! When I tell you I have been craving a fake dating romance like this! Oh my looord 🥰 I truly did not think anyone could top my love for Dominic, but yall… Adrian is ✨him✨ Seriously, I am beyond smitten for this man! I swear I sported a pair of giant red cartoon heart eyes the entire book 😍
For the Gods' Sake is a fantasy romance with a unique take on Greek/Roman mythology that will keep you glued to the edge of your seat. There’s angst and tension, hot hot hot spice, and character growth so sweet and pure, your heart will surely melt by the story's end. Please note that this is the third installment in Rory L. Scott’s Tempt the Gods series and I would highly suggest starting with book 1, For the Love of the Gods, for the best reading experience!
Adrian Zeus Jupiter is a control man 😏 As the king of the gods, he exudes confidence and authority at all times. When Reyna Romulus, princess of the people, storms into his life and agrees to partake in a fake dating scheme, things quickly turn chaotic. Yet despite a steady stream of challenges, Adrian and Reyna have an electric connection that left me swooning page after page. As his grip on his magic falters and a conspiracy threatens to shake everything up, tensions rise between our main couple and it is delicious.
Rory’s writing is so refreshing. She is descriptive and thorough, eloquent and intentional, all without being overly wordy. She writes internal conflict in a way that creates the most relatable cast. The pacing is spot on. The character arcs are realistic and engaging. I am genuinely so impressed and hungry for more!
For the Gods' Sake is a must read for any fantasy romance lover. Check out these tropes! - Roman/Greek Gods and Mythology - Fake Dating - Slow Burn - Who Did This To You? - Fated Mates - Angst and Tension
Big thanks to Rory for providing an ARC! These are my honest thoughts. 🖤
I felt like this was a random book I happened to read but I absolutely loved the series. I thought it was well written, the men were dark and fantastic like any would be but with the plot and the gods aspect to it it really brought it all together and really worked! The spice was 10/10 and the tension was perfect in this book specifically but all of them as well
What to say except that I loved it?! The story is rich, the characters are well-written and the world-building is amazing.
Not one line doesn't serve a purpose and I read it so easily that I realized I was close to the end before being ready for it. 🥲💔
This book is sweet & angsty, it's clearly a romance first and a fantasy second but the plot is still dense and adds a lot to the story. I would have loved to have even more of it because it kept me on edge and so curious about how it'll end. 🤭
NB: Don't be like me, this is not a standalone and you will be spoiled of the previous books if you read this first 🥲
~ ROMANCE & MAIN CHARACTERS 💖 ~
Nothing screams "Dominant Gentleman" like Adrian, and I'm there for it. How can he be so everything all at once baffled me, but there he was. From beginning to end, not one misstep to be found. He's perfect 😮💨❤️🔥
Did I love Reyna? No. Am I obsessed with her? Yes, absolutely.
She's kind, funny, has a competitive side I can very much relate to, and she has a backbone made of steel! Definitely my kind of FMC. 🥰
Dominic, Rose, Daphne & Luka are all secondary characters in this book but I loved them too. "For The God's Sake" is the first book of the series I read, but I'm definitely going to backpedal and read their stories too!! 🤩
~ SPICE 🌶️ ~
Well, the build-up to the spice is INSANE, and they're both obsessed with each other & are competitive about it 🔥🔥🔥
This book is a slow burn to the explicit scenes but they're intense. A little munch of D/s dynamic with an MMC that likes to take control and an FMC that trusts him to do just so... 😉
----------------------— This is an arc review. Thanks to the author for the advanced ebook copy 🙏💖 ----------------------—
CW: some references to mental health issues, spice, mild violence
This book could hit me over the head with a brick and I would say thank you. That’s how good it is.
The old gods have left their posts to their descendants, and the Greek and Roman pantheons have merged. When the son of Jupiter and Zeus’s lines uncovers a brewing rebellion, he’ll need the daughter of the Romulus line to help him uncover the perpetrators. But fake dating never goes according to plan, and the two discover a chemistry that they never expected.
First of all, a huge thank you to the author for allowing me to be a part of the ARC team! “For the Gods’ Sake” releases January 4, 2024, which means you have time to read the first two books in the Tempt the Gods series! This book can be read as a standalone, which is how I read it as I haven’t (yet) gotten the first 2, but it does have characters from the other books and may reveal some spoilers for their stories.
Do you like the fake dating trope? How about smoldering chemistry and epic tension? Moments that will literally make you laugh out loud? Mysterious forces working against one party as a second plot line? Yes? Then you’re going to love this book. When I tell you that I could hardly put it down, I’m not exaggerating. It was crystal clear from chapter 1 that I was going to adore this story, and I did.
The characters? Delightful. Our MMC and FMC were absolutely amazing, their banter was easily some of the most entertaining I’ve read, and that tension?! Ridiculous and quite frankly uncalled for (in the best way).
The setting: While the story was mostly focused around our characters and their feelings for each other, we do get glimpses of multiple locations and settings. It’s varied enough that the story doesn’t feel stagnated in any one spot, and the locations we see have a definitive feeling and look to them, but there isn’t so much extra world building that it distracts from the story. While I’m all for a well-described world, this felt like just the right amount for the book.
The plot itself: while heavily focused on the relationship and its development, we do also get a nice little secondary plot (really I’d characterize it as a second main plot) full of unknown enemies and their shenanigans. I haven’t read the other two books in the series, but it feels like this was a reveal a long time coming, and it was really entertaining. And that relationship development I mentioned? Fantastic. Glorious. Perfection. 10/10, loved every second of it.
All in all, this was an amazing book. I’m so glad I got the chance to read it before release date, and I’m already planning to go back for the first two in the series. It made me laugh, it kept me engaged, and I never felt like I needed to throw the book at the wall because the characters were making poor choices. It was a wonderful story, and I’m already trying to decide when I should reread it.
This is the third book in Rory’s series (can be read as a stand alone, BUT YOU SHOULD READ THE FIRST TWO). She did not miss.
Adrien and Reyna have found themselves in a mutual beneficial fake relationship. (Fake dating trope god bless) except they are the WORST at fake dating lmao. It was flirty, there was so much sass, and so much that was finally revealed after two books!
Adrien has a lot of internal pressure to work through that I think was dealt with really well. It didn’t seem repetitive or easily solved. He was doing his best to shoulder his responsibilities and figure out how to solve them in a healthy way (mostly). He’s very in tune with himself and his confidence never felt cocky. He’s hot and a god, like hello that could go so very wrong, but it works so well for him.
Reyna had a lot of external conflicts at hand. Most to do with her father and their business, but also with other power players coming into the mix. She wasn’t easily deterred and thank the lord this girl knew how to communicate. She was never scared and had a lot of courage that most female characters lack these days. I can’t get behind a stupid/naive main character anymore so god bless Rory Scott for never writing a weak lead.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun reading Rory’s books are. They soothe a part of me that is so deeply obsessed with Greek/Roman mythology and lore. Her spin on connecting both worlds is also really refreshing. It’s not the same lores re-drawn out. Don’t get me wrong I love a Hades and Persephone re-telling, but these??? These are the BEST!
Rory never ceases to amaze me. Her books are really great for pulling you out of your world and into another. They’re quick, full of knowledge that’s easy to follow, while still giving you action and suspense.
The baddie who turned out to be the baddie was not at all what I was expecting. I could either be the dumbest dummy ever or just really gullible, but it was not the twist I thought was to come. Pleasantly surprised as always!
Genre: Fantasy, Greek and Roman Mythology, Romance
Summary: A dual POV story that flips between Adrian, Lord Jupiter, and Reyna Romulus, next in line for the infamous Romulus business. Nobody opposes the gods quite like the Romulus' do. Adrian has managed to avoid Reyna for most of his life, but at their mutual friend's wedding, they meet and a plan is put into place that is mutually beneficial for them both. The only catch is that they need to pretend to be a couple to convince Reyna's father they are together so she can use this relationship to bargain her way out of taking over his business. Adrian is trying to improve his reputation and believes being seen going steady with a well-known woman will do just the trick. He also believes there is no way he could have feelings for another person, let alone a human woman. Will they be able to keep up the ruse or fall miserably in love and face new challenges?
Review: I thought this book was okay. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it.
Here are the positives: I read through this 400+ page book in a matter of 2 days so it was well-paced and had shorter chapters to help you breeze through. There is tons of banter and snark and arrogance which I enjoyed. This is a slow-burn romance with angst and plenty of build-up. Adrian and Reyna are extremely jealous people and are not above acting out on impulses. They also have this competitiveness which causes them to constantly try and one-up each other in who can be the better fake partner. The crumbling of Reyna and Adrian's guarded hearts was also well done.
What I didn't like: It was too long for the development we did get. The ending was squished and the beginning was drawn out. I have not thought about this book once since putting it down. The predictability of this book was above average, nothing happened that wasn't clearly going to happen. The relationship between Reyna and her family is rather confusing and not fleshed out enough.
Overall I would recommend this book to someone who wants a quick read with multiple POVs, a little spice, and lots of angst.
I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book and so am choosing to leave this honest and voluntary review.
📚✨ ARC Book Review ✨📚
Title: For The Gods' Sake Author: Rory L. Scott Series: Tempt the Gods #3
🌶 Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶, 4/5 ⭐ Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, 5/5
"It was always you."
For The Gods' Sake is the third installment of the Tempt the Gods series. It is a standalone novel, so you do not need to read the books prior. However, some characters mentioned in this read are characters from books one and two.
I'm honestly such a nerd, that during my high school years I was studious in my passionate research of Ancient Histories and Ancient Civilizations: all things Ancient Greek and Ancient Rome, (and other cultures too).
For The Gods' Sake is a smutty retelling of such epic love stories found in these classical texts - though Rory is able to personify the powers of these gods and goddesses, and make them entirely their own. I absolutely loved reading the plot and storyline whilst keeping an honorable homage to which it was inspired from.
It's modern, relatable and very well written.
Also, who doesn't enjoy the "fake-dating" trope? Cause dang nothing gets me in cahoots faster than a coupling that say they're only gonna do so and so but end up falling for one another, (despite their own grievances lol) and then they do all of this and then it nearly all blows up in their faces only to be - ha! Got ya- read it yourself trust me you'd like it.
I will say that I'm excited for the next story in this series! Which is aptly named 'The Gods Forbid' - and if you read For The Gods' Sake to the end, we are gifted an excerpt of Chapter 1. It is a villain-redemption-arc, reverse Hades and Persophone retelling starring Persy and Sebastian. Yay!
This was my first read of Rory's, so don't mind me as I go and read the first two and get myself all set up in time for the next!
• All hail the Greek Gods and Goddesses once again🛐! BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, LORD/KING JUPITER🔭! Ugh, the things I wanna do to that man🤧.
• For The Gods’ Sake follows the story of Lord Adrian Jupiter and Lady Reyna Romulus. Tropes within this book are fake dating, fantasy romance, Greek mythology, fated mates, forced proximity, reluctant allies, “who did this to you” , etc⛈️.
• My fated mate at this point, Ms. Aurora L. Scott🫶🏽, decided to bless me again, or concede to my harassment (the world may never know) with an ARC of ✨THE✨ Sky Daddy and I am beyond honored🌌 .
• We met Adrian all the way back in book 1 aka Rosey Posey and Daddy Dom’s book, For The Love Of The Gods, and in book 2, The Gods Only Know, but we only meet his Reyna girl for a hot minute in book 2 during Lukas and Daphne’s wedding💒.
• The book picks up right where book 2 left off but we get a glimpse into Adrian’s mind as he literally springs his idea into reality. His idea you ask? Forming an alliance with the people’s Princess aka Ms Reyna girl, in order to not only secure support from his people but also get to the bottom of whom is trying to take him down (don’t even get me started on that man because I love my Sun God —)☀️.
• Not to mention that while this is all happening, Adrian is literally having the most difficult time trying to reel in his powers. Like he got lightning coming out his fingers tips on a minute to minute basis⚡️. And not to mention that he literally creates STORMS, NATURAL DISASTERS, whenever he’s unnerved, or sad, or angry, or horny - which is like 99% of the time he’s with Reyna🤭.
• Anywhosies, Adrian runs the idea by Reyna and Ms girl is like … bffr. Like she wasn’t having it but was also intrigued and I couldn’t even blame her because like … the literal Sky Daddy and the King of THE GODS, is asking to fake date you… I’d be down bad too😝.
• But, with that being said, Reyna agrees to the idea/plan because it seems beneficial all around for the both of them. It didn’t really take that much convincing from either ends because these blind dumb lovestruck fools were already feening for each other, just from a far. The dramatics of these two🤭.
• And then we’re off to the races and it’s filled with angst, tension, power plays/struggles, so many “will they, won’t they” moments, stolen looks and soft caresses etc🥲. It honestly was EATING! Like I kept hitting Rory up being like “WHEN ARE THEY GONNA F—“… *cough cough*🤧. Moving right along.
• Reyna is definitely my second favorite female character in the series. Mama girl was sharp with her comebacks, competitive, strong willed, understanding, compassionate and so goddamn loyal🤍. She honestly fit Adrian so well and vise versa. They were literal halves to each other.
• Ms Rory girl was on something when she wrote this because the DRAMA and plot twists she was delivering?!? Oh, it ate down bad🤤! Well, I personally loved the plot twist and basically called it as I was reading it and I WAS NOT UPSET with it🤭. Let’s just say that I support men’s rights, but I also support men’s wrongs, more specifically Se—☀️🧠.
• Don’t mind me🥸. But all in all, I enjoyed this book so much. As always, Rory’s attention to detail, world building and characters depths never shock me. My girl can WRITE💅!! And although I know this technically isn’t the last book in the series, it was a good way to wrap up all the loose ends we the readers had since book 1👏. But the Gods know, I am SOOOOO ready for book 4 because the crumbs that Rory gave us in book 3 to set up in book 4?!?? Yeah, I was MUNCHING ON THOSE🍽️! I’m gonna end it with saying, I’m about to become a big fan of the arts and the sun all thanks to this new God in book 4☀️🎨🤭.

I recently delved into Rory L. Scott's "For The God's Sake," the third installment of the Tempt The Gods series, and I must say, it left me utterly hooked. From its release on January 4th, 2024, as an independently published work, this book held me captive within its world of scandal, conspiracy, and unexpected love.
The story revolves around Adrian Zeus Jupiter, whose scandalous parentage forces the gods to unite into one system after centuries of separate existence. Adrian faces threats from within, prompting him to seek an unlikely ally in Reyna Romulus, the people's princess and heir to a formidable business empire. Their arranged relationship becomes pivotal in thwarting the mounting threats against the gods, and their personal struggles and budding affection add depth to the tale.
As I immersed myself in the narrative, I found the growth of Adrian and Reyna to be exceptionally well-written. Adrian's protective instincts towards Reyna were evident from the start, intensifying the romance and adding an edge to their evolving connection. Rory L. Scott skillfully weaves themes of duty, sacrifice, and love, keeping me engrossed from beginning to end.
My enthusiasm for the novel knows no bounds. I was captivated by the characters and their intricate arcs, leaving me eager to explore the preceding installments. The inclusion of favorite quotes further solidified my admiration for the book, offering poignant glimpses into the intensity and passion that permeate the narrative.
Overall, "For The God's Sake" solidifies Rory L. Scott's position as a master storyteller in the realm of mythological fiction. This installment promises an enthralling journey that transcends genres, captivating readers with its well-crafted characters, engaging plot twists, and seamless blend of ancient lore with modern sensibilities. Whether you're a fan of romance, fantasy, or mythology, this book offers a spellbinding experience that will linger in your thoughts long after you turn the final page.
*I received this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review*
For the God’s Sake is the third book in the Tempt the Gods series and it was just as fun as the first two. I have really enjoyed reading this series with each book being its own complete story within the overall plot/conflict.
Adrian and Reyna are the main couple for this book. The beginning of the book was a little slow for me due to their relationship starting as a “fake” relationship, but once they started actually talking and getting to know each other the pace picked up and of course so did their true feelings. I loved seeing both MCs learn more about each other which made this fake relationship more than it was intended to be. Adrian has so much weight on his shoulders and I loved how Reyna slowly showed him that he didn’t have to carry it all by himself. I also appreciated the mental health representation through Reyna, and how Adrian came in and was able to understand her struggles and not make her feel less than because of it. As always with this series, the tension was delicious and the payoff was very much worth the wait.
The plot of this story continues the overall issue of who is trying to bring down the gods, and the resolution to said plot was one I did not see coming. I had an idea of who the baddie was but honestly did not see it coming when we found out who was actually the baddie. Looking back on the previous 3 books it makes sense because we definitely got a lot of hints, but I think Scott did a fantastic job weaving the story to keep readers on their toes.
Overall, I think the balance between Adrian and Reyna’s story and the plot was well done. I also loved how we got a completion/continuation of the overall conflict so far but it has led beautifully into the next and final book in the series.
For The God’s Sake - Rory L.Scott (release date 04/01)
As a big fan of the fake dating trope, I was absolutely thrilled when Rory sent me the ARC for this book. Anyone who’s followed me for a while knows that mythology & romantasy are my two fav genres - so you can imagine that I built this book up very highly in my mind - and I’m so happy to say it has not left me disappointed in the slightest.
For The God’s Sake is the third book in the Tempt The Gods series, all of which can be read as standalone novels but are interconnected by a juicy conspiracy 👀
Although you won’t NEED to read the previous books to get what’s going on, you will definitely fall in love with the characters who are the focus of the previous books and want to delve into them (my plan for early Jan) because the character development is *chefs kiss*
For The God’s Sake focuses on the fake (wink wink) relationship of Adrian (king of the gods) and Reyna (the people’s princess) and is filled with all the tension, angst, and passion you could possibly want when reading romantasy - but also is written incredibly well that the reason they work so well together is tangible. Adrian and Reyna are two strong, independent characters determined to make the best out of the hands they were dealt and it FITS that they fell together. There were definitely moments where I was STRESSED though so don’t think this is going to be an easy ride 🤪 (worth it though!!!)
Also would like to thank Rory for actually giving us a well thought out plot instead of just straight up smut on a plate 😭
ALSO this is not canon but Reyna would absolutely love the Sabrina Carpenter Fruitcake EP 💅
It’s out on 4th Jan and will available on Kindle Unlimited as well which is always a plus!!
"Although there was never any doubt it was going to be you. It was always you."
For the Gods' Sake is the third book in the Tempt the Gods series, but it can be read as a standalone. This was a unique, modern, celebrity twist on Greek and Roman mythology, and I was captivated immediately. Amidst a growing conspiracy against the gods, the story begins with Adrian Zeus Jupiter orchestrating a plan to have a fake relationship with human Reyna Romulus. They become the textbook example of fake dating and soon the Mediterranean is buzzing over their sensational relationship. Adrian and Reyna have agreed that their arrangement will only last a few months, however the more time they spend together carefully crafting a public image of "true love," the harder it becomes to deny their true feelings and attraction.
Adrian is the most powerful of the gods, but struggles with control, specifically over his powers, and showing emotion. I loved that Reyna pushed boundaries and tested his limits in order to break down his meticulously constructed walls. Adrian is Reyna's perfect counterpart and anticipates her wants, needs, and accepts her as she is. He never shies away from her, and does not let even her darkest moments deter him. The tension was expertly crafted, and the things that Adrian says and does are hotter than the lightning he wields. There is a good amount of action and suspense in the final part of the book, and I could not have predicted the villain in this story or how it wrapped up.
I highly recommend reading this, especially if you like the following tropes: -Fake dating -Fated love -Who did this to you -Angst -Greek and Roman mythology -Tension and "control"
For the Gods’ Sake is book three in the Tempt the Gods series. I was looking forward to this one as Adrian had me NEEDING to know more about him since the first time he was mentioned. This book centers on the fake dating trope, which is a favorite of mine because there's always more feelings than there should be and I eat it up.
Adrian is the new king of the Gods and this book is more than just his relationship with Reyna. He's juggling not only a great deal of power but also a lot of guilt. Adrian seems cold and emotionless at first but there's so much more to him and I really love that it's Reyna who brings it out in him. The dynamic between these two is fantastic. I noticed that a lot of reviews didn't like that there was a bit of a slow start to the book, but I really liked being taken along on their dates and dinners with family. I feel like including this makes the relationship payoff so much more once it's not "fake".
This book ALSO gives us the big reveal on the conspiracy that has been escalating over the previous books. I have been trying to figure it out and I wasn't even close. I'm also now INCREDIBLY excited for the next book as I'm really curious how the "punishment" is going to go. Rory continues to be such an excellent storyteller and I adore these books.
I would be remiss if I didn't add that Sara Brodt did the audiobook. As with the past books, this one is just as well done. In this one characters from the previous books reappear and the way that Sara does their voices brings you right back to their books. You know who is speaking and you remember their story. She's truly a remarkable narrator.
This is the first book I have read of Rory’s, and I have to say it was a great introduction.
A fake-dating romance between the God of the Skies and a human Princess who is a descendant from one of the brothers who founded Rome – yes please. I love how the Greek and Roman mythology and god lines were tied together – it wasn’t too complicated or too simple – she found and cut out the perfect amount of both sides to forge her series with.
Adrian is incredibly kind and loves his people, but he quite literally has the weight of the world on his shoulders – I love this portrayal of Zeus. Reyna is intelligent, beautiful, sassy and on the verge of being handed over the reins of her family’s empire. When Adrian proposes a fake relationship to help Reyna and distract from his current predicament sparks are guaranteed to fly.
The spice I have to tell you was fire, don’t get me wrong I love having spice in books, but I feel it could have been left out and the story would stand on it’s own and I love that. The romance between Adrian and Reyna is delightfully decadent. Their banter and tension was – Chef’s kiss – add in our very handsome God of the Skies getting nervous around our lovely princess just added that extra little cherry on top of this engaging story. 😉
I will be reading the first 2 books in the series before the release of Book 4 next year.
Overall, this was a fun and easy read with plenty of surprises, steamy kisses and chemistry that was off the charts. 10/10 would recommend!
Phew! I didn’t think this series could get any hotter!
Just when I thought this series couldn’t possibly get any hotter, along came Adrian & Reyna. From the moment Adrian said “Entanglements are messy. I don’t do messy.” in book 2 I knew he’d be a goner as soon as it was time for his story. Surprisingly, I’ve never read a book with a fake-dating trope, but “For the Gods’ Sake” was a great introduction b/c, my god, did Rory deliver (as always) with just the right amount of slow burn tension. Incidentally, if you’re a fan of the “good girl” trope, do yourself a favor & read. this. book. now. Adrian & Reyna’s dynamic was electric & their competitive banter was so much fun to read. Something I really appreciated was the care that Rory took in portraying mental illness. She brilliantly intertwined how depression & anxiety can warp self-perception & project baseless fears onto how we believe our loved ones perceive us into the fabric of her beautifully crafted character development. I already knew that Rory’s grasp of emotional writing was masterful, but this representation truly hit home. It was very cathartic to read. If all of that wasn’t enough, the political intrigue & mystery heated to a fever pitch! I physically yelled at some of the twists, & I don’t think I’ve highlighted more lines in a single book, save for poetry, than I did in “For the Gods’ Sake!” The pacing was perfect, & I absolutely devoured this book. As in I read it under a day. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in the 4th book, “The Gods Forbid!”
I am so thankful to have received an ARC for this. I was very excited to hear it would be greek/Roman myth inspired and this book did not disappoint.
While this book is book three in her Tempt the Gods series, it can be read as a standalone - I haven't read the first two books, but I'm certainly going to now. The story was well paced and I didn't feel like I was missing out by not reading the first two books due to patches, the story was well detailed and descriptive that I was caught up with the knowledge of what I assume occurred in the first two books. So please don't be intimidated that it's the third book!
I absolutely love the main characters Reyna and Adrian. I do prefer Adrian's character arc more as I think he did evolve the most (trying to not give spoilers) but my god I loved how stubborn, protective and caring Reyna is, and the fact that she too had flaws and issues she was dealing with - these two characters were very well developed and nuanced that felt like I could see them being real people (yk besides the powers etc).
Absolutely loved the romance, the fake dating, the tension, it was everything... I loved that it was dual POV because hearing how Adrian felt, had me weak in the knees - what this man would do for her, gods help us.
Overall, this was an amazing book and perfect for anyone in love with greek/Roman myth inspired, fake-dating-trope-loving, romantasy fans!!
The perfect 3rd installment to the series, and I have to say by far my favorite. If your new here let me introduce you to this phenomenal series called “tempt the gods”. Each book takes place with a different couple in a urban fantasy setting about the Roman and Greek gods, whom many are taking in the roles of their predecessors. Example: Poseidon is not really the original Poseidon, but after the original passes on, the next one in the family takes his/her place. To say the least, if your a fan of ‘neon gods’ by katee robert this series should definitely be up ur ally.
THAT BEINB SAID BESTIES, the plot just keeps getting thicker and thicker and more juicer. Yes they take place with different couples but I HIGHLY you recommend you read it in order for the sake of the plot. In this book our main couple here end up putting themselves in a fake relationship (which u know where that will lead😉) I’m order to investigate a problem together. AND MY OH MY HOW THE TABLES HAVE TURNED. let’s just say book 4 if the villain arc- AND LETS JUST SAY U SHOULDN’T LOVE HIM BUT I DO.
So really I’m telling you to read all these books to get to the fourth book when it comes out BECAUSE VILLAINS DO IT BETTER.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again - Rory never misses 😮💨 When I heard the tropes for the 3rd book in her Tempt The Gods series, I KNEW it was gonna be right up my alley. And boy oh boy was it 😩💗
Adrian, the man whose very birth changed the world of the gods is the King of the Gods who prides himself on what he deems as unrelenting control.
Reyna, the people’s princess is the unwilling heir to the most influential family in the Mediterranean and a woman who feels deeply while fighting for her future.
These two dummies thought that a fake dating contract to increase public opinion for Adrian while simultaneously dragging out the bad guy and helping Reyna make changes to her father’s company would sureeeely not end in love. All that “pretend” romance couldn’t possibly lead to love right? 😏
You give me an MMC that thinks feelings are a “weakness” and time and time again I will EAT. IT. UP. The pure devotion Adrian has for Reyna is so heart meltingly tender and Reyna’s willingness to sacrifice what she wants to protect those around her broke my heart.
The suspense, the who-done-it, the reveal of our villainous mastermind who has been plaguing the characters through this whole series? SO GOOD.
And our boy Adrian likes giving commands in the council and the bedroom 😋
Firstly, thank you for granting me the pleasure of delving into this advanced reader's copy. As an ardent enthuslast of romantic fantasy, I was captivated by the chance to explore the third installment of a series that effortlessly encompasses the perfect blend of angst, romance, fantasy, and compelling chemistry.
While this book can stand alone, I opted to immerse myself in the preceding two, a decision I'm exceedingly grateful for. From the very first page, this book held me spellbound. Reyna and Adrian's dynamic immediately ensnared my attention. Typically, I struggle to form connections with characters due to their lack of relatability and bland sense of self, however these characters have carved a permanent spot in my heart and I am eternally grateful for it. This series is laden with elements of fake dating, woven with the tapestry of Greek and Roman mythology. The narrative's twists and turns kept me guessing and wholly engaged until its climactic conclusion. I devoured this book in one sitting.
I cannot recommend the entirety of this trilogy enough! This series deserves an abundance of attention and acclaim, as it effortlessly delivers everything a romantic fantasy enthusiast could yearn for, and more.

Sound like a super fun story 👍 very relatable
I think the people who would enjoy this are the same people that enjoy TMZ, staying up to date on celebrity gossip, etc. I’m surprised the lowest rating beside mine is 3 stars. I’m the only 1 star as of today lmao
The narration was not great. I had the volume turned up to 38 because they liked to whisper when narrating the MCs portion. I usually only have it to MAX 17-18. It made it very hard to understand a lot of the dialogue when I’m driving, which is when I listen to these “books”.
I kept waiting for her to go “I….. am…… Bruce…..Wayne…..”.
Maybe I would’ve been more engaged if it was duo narrated. Or if it excluded the MCs portion entirely because I just didn’t like it anyways. Listening to the inner monologue of a guy losing a grip on his power then it being switched to a girl preparing flowers was a bit jarring. And completely laughable to be honest.
But nah, still would’ve hated it because the plot reeks of Privileged White Couple Socialite. 🤢
Edit - OMG nobody outside of Texas says “honey” this much. AND ITS SO FUCKING CRINGY.
Rory has, once again, done it. I love this series so much. Her characters always have such relatable inner monologue and feelings. And it was really fun to see the characters from the rest of the series from Adrian and Reyna's POV. The second Adrian said attachments are messy and he doesn't do messy in book two, I was like, babe... you are next. And with fake dating! It could not have been a better set up for our King of the Gods. These two were so fun. I really loved seeing Adrian lose control and Reyna being the one to help him with it. Considering they're both so prominent in the public eye and both so independent, it was so interesting to see their relationship come together and watch them both squirm about it all. AND THE TWIST! Rory had me bamboozled because I never saw that coming. And in normal Rory fashion, we got all the storm imagery with this one. I've always loved the way she incorporates their powers into the way she describes scenes, it just feels so natural for the story. Please, please, please, everyone needs to read this series. It truly is so underrated for how good it is.
Fake dating. Evil plots against the gods. Sexy, frustrated king of gods. I loved this book.
The plot was plottingggg and to keep things spoiler-free. I’m just gonna say I knew [REDACTED] was weird and needed jail time!
Adrien and Reyna are so dramatic and emotional that you can't help but love them and laugh at them. Adrien and his lighting bolt eyes proposed fake dating, and then the whole book he was like, but why fake date when we could just get married for real? These two are so bad at fake dating in the best way possible. They wonder why things feel so real and natural. I'm like 👀 I wonder why...
This book will not wrong you! But it WILL play with your emotions. One second, I was stressed thinking a situation would go one way, and then it immediately went the other way.
Adrien and Reyna are not letting each other go period. They were the perfect couple to wrap up our big three gods. I'm going to need an extended 200-page epilogue about these two, please.
I read the book on rainy days, wrote my review on a rainy day, and took pictures of the book on a rainy day. I was committed to the bit.
