Arrogant bosshole with some dirty secrets. Sounds tempting, right?
Wrong. Kirill Zaitsev is anything but tempting.
Sure, he’s tall and broad and muscular in all the right places. And sure, he’s richer than several small countries. And yes, fine, his eyes do make me feel loopy, and he does smell like mint and musk, and there’s also the way his jaw clenches when he…
Sorry, where was I? Oh yeah. Bosshole. Dirty secrets.
Anyway, all those things sound fine and dandy. For a little while, I thought so, too. Then I learned who Kirill really is—a killer, a tycoon, a mafia don.
He’s got things hidden on his mansion’s third floor that no one is supposed to know about. I’ve got no business snooping around. I’m a maid, not a private detective. But I just can’t help myself. So I go where I shouldn’t go and see what I shouldn’t see…
Then, of course, Kirill catches me in the act. In most stories, that would be the end. Butt meets curb, drop the curtain, roll the credits. But in this story, that’s just the beginning. Because something strange happens when Kirill looks at me…
Sparks fly. And when he’s the one lighting them… Well, safe to say I’m down to get burned.
Ruby Malice is book one of the Zaitsev Bratva duet. Kirill and Rayne’s story continues in book two, Ruby Mercy.
This book was trash. It was written and edited well, but these characters are horrendous. Kirill is an entitled, selfish, p o s that uses and abuses the main character, Rayne. He’s TRASH. Then there’s Rayne. You think you’ve read doormats before? Hooboy, buckle yourself in because this is a bumpy ride. Rayne has the personality of a piece of chalk. Not even colorful chalk. Just white, boring chalk. What are her interests? She has none. What are her hobbies? She has none of those either. What does she do in her spare time? Couldn’t tell you. Who are her friends? She has none. There’s no depth to Rayne, other than her soul-deep need to wallow in misery and allow herself to be treated like crap by everyone, on a daily basis. Everyone talks crap about her. To her face and behind her back. Her sisters, their husbands, Kirill, German, Sonya…everyone. And she runs after everyone begging them incessantly for scraps and morsels of attention that they never give her. She’s a dog in heat, crawling after Kirill, begging him for love with big puppy eyes and tears, even after he tells her repeatedly he wants nothing to do with her, that she’s just “the help,” that she’ll never be his priority, that she’s a mistake, etc.
I H A T E D Rayne. At every chapter, I thought, “Surely she’ll grow a backbone now?” But nope. She does not. And then the next chapter is even more pathetic and desperate, and I’d think, “Surely NOW? Who in their right minds would take this a b use?!” But nope. No dignity. No strength. No self-respect was ever found. Even in the final chapter, after having been screamed at and blamed for everything that was never her fault, she STILL ran back to his front door begging, crying, and pleading for him.
Ughh. This book was terrible. The only character I liked was Ilya, and look how that turned out. If you’re into pathetic, desperate doormats that like being verbally a bus ed on a daily basis and who never stand up for themselves, then this book might be for you.
I enjoyed the book. However, Rayne was annoying to the say the least. I get that’s what attracted him to her but eveytime she couldn’t keep her mouth closed. She was weak to everyone else around her except him. I wanted to see her vulnerable side to him but she refused and so did he. I hope the 2nd book is worth it because it was a cliffhanger
All the while I thought I was reading Nicole fox and boy, I judged her harshly. This was pathetic, the characters, the plot, the repetitive scenes😐....these writers just drag one by the nipples with these elaborate stories that end up being really unrealistic and unsatisfactory
Ruby Malice was recommended by a friend as an intriguing take on mafia romance with character development at the forefront. I switched between reading the ebook and listening to the audiobook, both of which I purchased because I was really in the mood for dark mafia. Things started out interesting and kept my attention, but there were aspects of the plot and audiobook narration that became this book’s downfall.
I’ll start off with the good. Ruby Malice is heavily character driven and dialogue oriented. Character interaction and dialogue is constantly on page, even with side character interactions. It’s all showing and minimal telling. The plot isn’t necessarily ground breaking. You have a down on her luck FMC in Rayne who is living in her sister’s pool house in LA and taking any work gigs she can get. Life takes a turn when she meets the mysterious Kyrill Zaitsev and lo and behold he turns out to be her new boss when she begins working as a maid. From there the other woman drama, mystery behind the “don’t go to the third floor,” and push pull tension between I can’t stand you and I can’t stay away from you unfolds.
What bothered me from a plot perspective was how the author chose to play out the narrative involving Kyrill’s younger brother Ilya. *I am intentionally not hiding this under a spoiler tag because you should know what you’re getting into in terms of problematic content* It’s one thing to have a character with a disability, in this case a traumatic brain injury, and feature them as a side character…and it’s another to use them as a prop to push the overarching plot forward. I get that it’s intended to showcase Kyrill’s softer side as a caregiver, while also drawing a parallel between Rayne’s own past experience as a caretaker for her terminally ill mother. But, it comes at the expense of this disabled character. To make matters worse, Rayne eventually becomes Ilya’s temporary caregiver, but she has absolutely no experience or study of how to deal with a person with this sort of TBI. You know, she’s just going on VIBES. WTH. And to top it all off, in order to drive both physical and emotional distance between the two MCs, Ilya gets killed off because he doesn’t listen to Rayne’s direction and ends up drowning. How this disabled character was treated left a bad taste in my mouth. Lastly, the audiobook narration missed the mark. I like Angelina Rocca’s voice, but in this case it was just too breathy and monotonous between characters. Alexander Cendese was a new to me narrator, and his reading was way too fast and clipped. While I normally listen to audiobooks between 1.2-1.5x speed, I had to slow his sections down to 1.0 because of how fast he read.
Please note that this book ends on a cliffhanger and with a pregnancy…setting it up for secret baby in book 2. I’ll be passing on any further installments
This book had the potential to be so much better...if Rayne stood up for herself some more!
Honestly, she annoyed me so much and the push-and-pull between her and Kirill was played out until almost the end. I don't mind some slow-burn but in my mafia reads, I expect alpha-holes to be a little more forward.
I almost cried when a certain character died! He made the book for me, I just couldn't believe it when he died.
I will read the second part to the duo because the cliffhanger at the end made me want to see how it all ends...but I'm definitely in no rush to do so.
Ruby Malice is book one of the Zaitsev Bratva duet. Kirill and Rayne’s story continues in Book 2, RUBY MERCY. The story ends on a cliffhanger. It's a brilliantly crafted story with complex characters and great storyline that grabs your attention from the first chapter and keeps you hooked and turning pages. It's a employer/employee story, opposite attracts, forced proximity, loss, grief, pain, dark mafia romance filled with secrets, steam, danger, violence, lies, lust, fear, suspense, mystery, anger, revenge, passion, revelations, retaliation, humor, witty, action, surprises, unexpected twists and turn, tragedy, mayhem and so much more. For years Rayne has been the only caregiver for her mom and she died recently. She's now working at as a waitress for a catering company. An incident occurred at the event and Kirill Zaitsev of the Bratva Zaitsev stepped in and saved her life. She didn't know who he was. He offered her a job as is maid. Kirill is a tycoon, a killer, and a mafia don. He's tall, dark and handsome with muscles in all the right places. He's cold-blooded, cruel, and ruthless and as many dirty secrets. He's got a lot of things hidden on the third floor of his mansion's that he doesn't want anyone to know about. Rayne thinks that her boss is an arrogant bosshole. Although she knows who her boss is and the repercussion that could come from her snooping she just can't help herself and decides to go and check out the third floor. She was caught in the act by Kirill, normally in most cases people would get a bullet to the head. But her case when he looked at her sparks fly between them. The chemistry between was scorching hot and pant-melting. There were so many back and forth banter. She was yin to yen. Great story I can hardly wait for Ruby Mercy.

This is the start to the Zaitsev Bratva series buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, so gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love (ALL THINGS TO EXPECT FROM THE MAFIA WORLD). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter! CAN’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED!!!!! Kirill sexy as all get out bratva boss you do not want to be on his bad side, he is not just sexy but ruthless, has no issues with killing who needs to be killed and he likes his privacy so when he finds someone snooping that is usually automatic death. Rayne intelligent just needing a break after losing her mom but also taking care of her before she passed so working as a maid for the bratva boss with strict instruction to not go on the third floor of the mansion, but as they say curiosity killed the cat and, in her case, the big bad mafia guy because he catches her mid snoop he will be taking it out on her. The moment he catches her the air shifts the attraction is instant, it is intense, and the magnetic pull between them can’t be ignored especially with a man who has so much control or in her case all the control but what the plans will she walk away with her life because lest be honest he has killed a many of men for less, will she get him to open up about the secrets that plaque him and where are they headed considering this leaves off on a cliffhanger?.

I ended up reading and honestly, I wish I hadn’t but seriously glad I didn’t waste a credit on it. The FMC was so ditsy and frustrating. She was stumbling through life and mad about it, when she hears it said out loud? It was laughable. She did the dumbest things, didn’t think before acting and her whole “appeal” was being pretty because she had zero personality. Like, no wit, no charm, just her having conversations with herself in her head and the only thing she had going was being “beautiful” 🙄
Basically, her only accomplishment was attracting the rich dude—and even that was messy. She tried to be all coy and played the whole “I’m quitting” game over and over like it was cute. It wasn’t. The MMC? Too broken from the past. He’s got trauma, trying to be there for his brother without professional help, and instead of focusing on that, he gets distracted by this pretty, hot mess. Their entire dynamic was push and pull, back and forth, almost the whole effin book…over and over and so annoying!
She never listened to her “boss” pretending to be helpful… she sort of was but it was all to gain love…
I struggled to enjoy the book and honestly, I think my eyes almost got stuck from how much I was rolling them. And don’t get me started on how she was supposedly close to Elia but couldn’t give two sh*ts about the niece and nephew was it because she was getting paid more and had a chance to nag the hot boss? Just... ugh. The self-delusion was the most exhausting part.
Bratva boss Don Kirill Zaitsev is used to getting his way, in anything and everything including the little server at the gala. Rayne begins to see who Kirill really is when he saves her life and she goes to work for him, he’s a killer, a billionaire and Bratva Don. He has secrets on the third floor of his home as its restricted and off limits, is he holding someone captive up there? What kind of man am I working for? I love how Rayne stands up to him, he becomes quite intrigued with her, but he knows he can’t lose his focus again. You see the instant chemistry between them, feel smoldering passion neither one can deny. Kirill is a bossy controlling man whom everyone listens to except Rayne who fights back every step of the way which drives him crazy. This a captivating and emotional story I was crying at the end when tragedy strikes, and everything is in shambles. I can’t wait for the second book in this amazing duet filled with passion, intrigue and romance as secrets are uncovered in the story. The plot of the book is what made me purchase it. The book sounded suspenseful, romantic, sexy, gave off he destroys the world for her vibes, and well everything you get in a maffia love story. However, the series (both Ruby Malice and Ruby Mercy) left me disappointed. The plot was well throughout, but the characters had some real flaws (and not in a way you want to cheer them on).
Rayne, the main female character, is someone you are rooting for in the beginning. But it goes away little by little with every thing she does (and the things doesn't). To be honest, her character portrayal in the second book is even worse than the first one. It was absolutely frustrating for me to see she cared so deeply about Kiril after he abandoned her. I felt that she had little to no character development. Kiril, Rayne’s love interest, was more strongly written. However, he was missing that spark that makes readers fall in love with them. They constantly argue over the same things, and the plot progression went in circles.
On a plus side, I did think the book was well written and it did hook me in the beginning.
An intense in depth look at the relationship between Don Kirill and a working girl Rayne. A very complicated relationship which involves four people. I felt that Rayne was too haughty and self-righteous in the beginning. She saw things black and white, right or wrong. There was no room for grey or extenuating circumstances. As the story progressed it showed a more loving and tender side to her. Kirill put up with Rayne because he saw a diamond in the rough. Even with her sharp edges he was extremely attracted to her and she to him. Even though she tried to deny it at every turn.
I really loved this story. As complex as it was it was a romance. I anxiously look forward to the next installment.
A must read. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend it.

I was very emotional reading this book, this story was so heart felt and also intense where you end up gripping the edge of your seat and these characters Kirill and Rayne was fantastic. Rayne lives with one of her sisters she use to be a waitress and now she is a maid, always inquisitive and argumentative. Kirill Zaitsev is a rich Mafia Don he can be a killer but also have a heart. The arguments they have as if it is a love hate relationship he is her boss so a line should never be crossed. She is living with her sister in there guest house and when her other sister came to visit, her two brother-in-laws were talking about her when she herd them so she grabbed a car and took off now feeling lost, unwanted, and unloved she feels lost. Can Kirill help her deal with her problems or is he going to keep his distance.

Alluring and Heartwarming!! Wow…this book is PHENOMENAL. From the very first chapter, I was hooked and enthralled with this story. Kirill and Rayne’s story is highly intense, gripping and enticing. The family dynamics surrounding these characters are so very interesting and engaging. Kirill’s unconditional love for IIya is so heartwarming and the beautiful friendship the develope’s between Rayne and IIya is so touching. Both of these characters are dealing with family traumas and finding their way to love. Their road is not easy and a great loss will have your heart bleeding for them. This book is truly heartbreaking and heart-gripping. We do not want it end. A stunning and addictive read. I am looking forward to reading Ruby Mercy and getter lost in Kirill and Rayne’s REMARKABLE love story. Congratulations Naomi this book is positively AMAZING ❤️🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Wow this is a great Bratva book the characters are all perfect and the storyline keeps you on your toes from beginning to end. Kirill Zaitsev Don of the Zaitsev Bratva killed his own father for what he did to his younger brother Ilya who is now badly brain damaged and is kept locked in the third floor of his mansion and only Kirill can control his rages. Raise a simple waitress bursts into Kirills life and complicates things she becomes one of his maids and drives him crazy she doesn't ever take his crap and stands up to him she also comes across his brother and helps him. Things don't end up well and go from bad to worse how can things ever end up right between these two only times will tell. Can't wait to read the next episode this one has been filled with so much emotion it makes you dizzy and my tissue box empty.
Ruby Malice by Naomi West is the story of Kirill and Rayne. He’s a Bratva Don…powerful, piercing, and ruthless. She’s hired as a maid in his household. Wildly entertaining story that had me gasping, shocked, horrified, crying, laughing, and every emotion in-between1!! Don is immovable as stone, but has a tiny soft spot, many hidden secrets, and seems to be two completely different people!!!
Rayne knows no limits, can’t help but involve herself in everything…including things she shouldn’t, and can’t keep quiet to save her life!!
Tumultuous, aggravating, intense, moving, and steamy read!!! Ends in a major cliffhanger!
I am volunteering to leave a review for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I do love Bratva stories. And I love a duet. I’ll definitely read the second book, as the cliffhanger here was delicious (not unexpected, but delicious just the same). Heartless Bratva don. Conniving promised bride. Slimy Bratva associates. But he’s not so heartless after all. Karill’s care of his damaged younger brother is admirable. He truly loves him. He doesn’t want to, but Karill falls in love (first lust) with Rayne. She’s a waitress. Then a maid in his household. Very annoyingly outspoken. Continuously outspoken. Often wrong. It’s a wonder one of the other mafia/ Bratva men don’t off her. Their back and forth goes on much too long. Then a tragedy happens. And that cliffhanger that leads to book 2.
This story has every element that you could imagine or dream about the perfect mafia book combined. It has depth, passion, a protectiveness and love that will take you on an enthralling literary adventure. Kirill and Rayne's life journey will take you on an unbelievable ride through life, love, hurt, pain......... and whatnot redemption, rebirth.
They soon find themselves going through issues, emotions, situations that will threaten their future together but most importantly themselves personally, their identity as human beings.
Ruby Malice will pull at your heartstrings. You better have your tissues on hand because you might even shed a tear or two.

Rayne has taken care of her dying mother and since her death she is loss so she moves into her sisters guest house and takes a job waitressing. When she meets Kirill she does not know he is the head of the Brava and they end up having a hot fling not knowing that he has a arranged engagement with Viktoria the daughter of another powerful Brava man. There are so many twist in this story that is both captivating and fascinating until there is a tragedy that breaks them apart. Loved book one and can not wait for book two.

Excellent story, from the characters to their story This is the first part of the relationship between Kirill and Rayne. I really liked these characters, especially that we meet Rayne when she decides to rebel (temporarily against her condition and not to be pushed around). He's everything Rayne hates and she doesn't want to make the same choices as her sisters and be supported by a husband. The story has a little tenderness, but above all a lot of emotions, all in roller coaster, sometimes with passages as hard to read as the character of Kirill The cliffhanger is very well placed on an unforeseeable event. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Ruby Malice by Naomi West is a mafia Bosshole romance. Naomi West is a new to me author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but WOW I absolutely loved it. I devoured this book in one sitting and let me tell you it has been a great journey so far.
Kirill Zaitsev is a Bratva Don and is a Bosshole with secrets. Rayne Garner is a waitress who is struggling with a recent loss. I loved Rayne, she had lost so ,I h and even though she struggled to stand up for herself she didn’t have that problem with her new boss. I loved their banter.
This book end s on a cliff hanger and I can not wait for the next book. I would recommend this book. Great story. Great writing. Great characters.
This is the first in a new dark bratva series, and this is Kirill and Rayne’s story. Rayne was a caregiver for her mom who has recently passed and is now working as a waitress at catered events. Kirill is wealthy and dangerous, and after coming to Rayne’s aid at an event, he offers her a job. This is a well written story which is filled with loss, revelations, humor, witty banter, danger, suspense, intrigue, violence, action, twists, tragedy, mystery, lies, revenge, and emotions, which leads to a riveting and addictive page turner. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ruby Malice is the first book in the Zaitsev Bratva duet and be warned that it does end with a cliffhanger which is then continued in Ruby Mercy. The story is about Rayne and Kirill with a dark mafia story-line that also has banter, romance and in the end love. Sure things start off more than a little rocky but this couple makes for a great read. There is also more than a little mystery and suspense, along with some heartbreak and more. I was immersed in this book and went right onto picking up Ruby Mercy to see just what happens next.
What a powerful, angry, heart-wrenching story. Kirill is a Mafia Don and Rayne was a waitress. She was asked to serve his table at a prestige gathering. She has a real distaste for the rich and clocks the snobby date hanging off a handsome VIP. Unfortunately she accidentally spills the drinks and ends up verbally abusing the clients. She isn't worried as that would be her last night working there as she was due to start a new job the following day. Little did she know who she would be working for. Rayne is very gobby and should really keep her opinions to herself but she can't help herself when it comes to him! 🔥read.
So many things I didn’t like about this one, some that I did. Rayne is a waitress that starts a new job as a maid. Who should her boss be? It’s the same one she was eyeballing the night before when she caused some drama at the table.
I like how smart and feisty Rayne is but boy when she starts her new job and thinks she can walk in and do whatever the hell she likes you think yep this one is no match for our fearless leader. Of course he loves her and lets her get away with anything. I don’t know I find myself doing a lot of eye-rolling right along with our characters. I wonder though does she know any other comebacks other than “you’re an arsehole”. It got a little boring.
I so did not want to finish this book. The plot is very bad. Rayne is too know it all without any knowledge. Kirill is a bratva boss but doesn’t do anything about it. There is no exiting things going on. Also people would probably prefer to work at a cafe, or as secretary not directly a maid.
She doesn’t seem to have any dreams, doesn’t want to better her life and judges her sisters when they want to help. It seems like the author wanted to write a maid-boss story and didn’t care about anything else. She could have been trying to save money to go to college or get her own place. She is a maid but is dropped with a ferrari, why her b-i-law is rich.
The first book in the series brings Kirill and Rayna's story. The author does a fantastic job bringing strong characters and weaves an action packed story filled with secrets and danger as as well as a fun banter and steamy chemistry. It's well written, moves fluidly and is a wonderful story that kept me reading right to the end. I'm looking forward to the next book as this one does end in a cliffhanger. Loved it!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This was a great start to this series and is about a girl who has a sassy mouth and a DON who finds this sassy mouth girl appealing who ends up being his maid and then you have the clingy fiancé who he hates and then you have this brother who was injured when he was younger and the ending was just heart wrenching and he just left her there and we find out she had a surprise of her own can’t wait for book 2 to find out if things work out.
