The Unbearable Poems and Practices for Being Alive is a collection of poetry and prose for when you are no longer trying to hide from the life within you. It is an excavation of the ground we find beneath ourselves when we are living in a way that is half-alive. It is a love letter to the invisible forces that keep us going.
This collection will take you through a journey–from confronting how we have learned to disconnect from ourselves and each other to feeling the beauty that comes from embracing this continuously evolving human experience. You will confront themes of loss and learning and face stories of seeking and surrender. The practices will challenge you, the poems will hold you. Along the way, you will find that you are never alone.
In a world that so often demands us to be someone else, The Unbearable Beauty is a story of rebellion. Reading it is choosing to cross a bridge to the truth of what it means to fully be here, fully ourselves.
Normally the repetition in this would annoy me but I appreciate how it exists to give symmetry and cohesiveness to this collection. It really does feel tight and spends just enough space reminding readers the painful truths about being alive while also guiding them to reframe their approach to the pain. There are hard truths to face in life but this author's words give you no choice but to carry on with a sense of hope and trust that everything is somehow going to be okay.
The book was alright. Nothing really new or original. I wish the author started using capital letters when she started “the beautiful” portion of her book. I also wish she got creative with font sizes and sentence art.
This was a nice little read, though a lot of redundancy. I loved the thought behind it, and I think I would have enjoyed this more when I first started reading poetry. I’d say it’s a beginner poetry book. Still lovely to read though
This book made the most hidden corners of my soul feel seen. The title serves it well, as all pieces of writing are unbearably beautiful. I can’t wait to read what else this author has to offer.
I'm studying to become a yoga teacher, and I found this book helpful for little snippets of inspiration. I will read many of the passages in my future classes.
