Language A Linguistic Hejira is a collection of poetry that invites the reader on a spiritual journey through poems about untranslatable words.

The book introduces the reader to 109 untranslatable words, mostly from languages other than English. Using poetry as a means to set out on a spiritual journey through life, these poems invite the reader to explore love, loss, sex, food, humor, and many other aspects of life that the book touches on. As poet and author Susan Wooldrige writes, this book takes us "deeper into the soul's, secret country" with poems to help us "follow that hidden thread into that other world."

About the author

David Holper has published one novel The Church of the Very Last Chance (Deeper Magic Press) and four collections of poetry, Bord för En (Swedish for “Table for One”) (Broken Tribe Press), Language Lessons: A Linguistic Hejira (Deeper Magic Press), The Bridge (Sequoia Song Publications) and 64 Questions (March Street Press). His poems and stories have appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies. He lives in Eureka, California, where he served as the City of Eureka’s inaugural poet laureate from August 2019-August 2021.
