This is issue number 37 in the Gotham Adventures series! Based upon the Gotham Animated Series which many think is the best version of Batman on screen this graphic novel series features short stories of Batman and his team taking on criminals in a way that is fun and great for all ages to read.
This issue is called “Images” and the villains faced the Joker, the Penguin and ultimately as it is revealed, the Mad Hatter. I don’t want to give away the whole plot since there’s a twist in the end but we see Batman fighting his villains and also concurrently Nightwing and Robin is trying to figure out where Batman is at as he’s gone missing. I did enjoy this story which also speaks to the strength of Batman’s mind and willpower. A fun issue!

”Images” starts with Nightwing and Robin looking for Batman. He’s been missing since yesterday because he was supposed to meet. They are interviewing him Intensely. The guy was paid to lure Batman to the docks by someone who works for the Joker.

When they finds Georgie Fortune he swears he didn’t do it and doesn’t work for the Joker anymore. Mostly.

”He’s kind of a difficult man to say no to, now isn’t he?”

They head to the docks to search. They find the Mad Hatter. Who has Batman sleeping and connected to a machine mounted on his head.

Batman is having strange dreams.

”Where’s Robin? I’d never go someplace like this without him to watch my back.”

This was a very meta story but very cool. Looking at the way we’ve looked at Batman in the past and the way we look at him today. The art (Tim Levins and Terry Beatty) was excellent, using the different styles Batman has been drawn in.

Very enjoyable 5 stars
