This is issue number 39 in the Gotham Adventures series! I have done many reviews of issues in this series and if you have been following my reviews this long already you know this is from a comic series that is an adaptation from the Batman animated series which in my opinion is one of the best version of Batman in terms of television or movie. In reading this issue and writing this review I cannot believe this was from twenty four years ago and I was still in high school when this issue came out.
This story is called “Acts.” Batgirl and Nightwing is investigating a mysterious circumstance where there’s mishaps after mishaps during the production of a play for William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” It turns out criminals are not the only ones who are a superstitious lot! Theatre people are also superstitious! As the duo investigate Batman and also Alfred give their insight to help and soon the culprit turn out to be one of Batman’s villains who went “undercover.” Fun story!

Great cover!

”Acts” begins with Batgirl rescuing her friend Cindy from a loose electric wire at a theater.

Later Batgirl tells Nightwing and Alfred that the play Cindy is in has been extraordinarily troubled. Batgirl decides to keep an eye on the theater

Levins & Beatty are making noticeably fun art in this one.

Batgirl follows one the stage manager home and rescues him from being mugged by ‘old friends’ with guns. Paulie says he’s hasn’t had anything to do with them in five years.

Later Cindy explains to Barbara Gordon that Paulie turned his life around but the attack last night freaked him out and he took his family and disappeared. Cindy thinks the play is cursed.

Just then stage lights fall from above. Barbara rescues someone from being killed but lots of them are cut by the crashing glass.

Later Barbara tells Nightwing that he’s in the play and she is the new stage manager. At the theater they manage to put out a mysterious fire at the theater

Batman suggests they run background checks on all the participants. The only one who turns up anything is a guy who is playing Macbeth also works at the Arkham Institute.

That was really fun. Some nice playfulness between Nightwing and Batgirl and of course Batman spoiling at the fun. A clever twist that was truly a surprise. 5 stars
