As her eyes scanned the newspaper article from 1925, she is shocked to read about the theft of two priceless necklaces from her family’s home. When Cate recognizes one of the stolen necklaces from when she traveled back in time to the year 1856 to solve a murder mystery, Cate knows there’s only one thing left for her to do. Despite the hectic holiday season approaching, complete with two grand holiday events, Cate must travel to 1925 and unravel the mystery surrounding the jewelry theft.
However, things take an unexpected turn when she arrives. As Cate discovers more unanswered questions, she starts to wonder if there’s a piece to the puzzle she has yet to uncover.
While Cate and estate manager, Jack, try to unravel the puzzle in the past, another mystery brews in the present for Cate. Strange and eerie nightmares centered around a bookcase in Dunhaven Castle’s library disrupt Cate’s sleep, rattling her mind even during her waking hours. She wonders if these are connected to the jewelry theft or if something darker lurks in Dunhaven’s halls.
Can Cate solve the mysterious theft of her family’s jewelry? Will the bookcase hold the secrets to the past? If it does, will Cate be able to decipher the clues on its shelves? Or is there something more sinister at work in Dunhaven Castle?
Find out if Cate has what it takes to solve the newest mysteries at Dunhaven Castle in Holiday Heist at Dunhaven Castle, book three of the riveting cozy mystery series Cate Kensie Mysteries.
Nellie H. Steele lives in the South Hills of Pittsburgh with her family and her many fur-babies. When she isn't writing, she enjoys teaching Statistics at a local university or watching her dogs and cats play in the yard.
Nellie is the author of the Cate Kensie Mystery Series, a cozy mystery series following the adventures of Dr. Catherine Kensie, a history professor turned Scottish Countess, and her beloved dog, Riley, as they navigate their new lives in their quirky Scottish highlands castle, solving mysteries along the way! She is the creator of the Shadow Slayers series, a suspenseful series with a supernatural twist! Follow the Shadow Slayers through time as they fight to banish darkness from the world. Nellie also writes an adventure series, Maggie Edwards Adventures. Follow Maggie Edwards as she travels the world solving mysteries and finding unique treasures!
The 3rd book in the Dunhaven series where Cate lears of a jewelry theft that happened in 1925 so her and Jack Time Travel to the roaring 20s and meet Rory and Anne and many more relatives. Cate is determined to find out who took the heirloom jewelry it had to be a family member or staff member and at the same time Cate his nightmares from a bookcase in the library. Nellie keeps you guessing until the end I enjoy her books.
The continuation of the Cate Kensie Family saga draws the reader into a narrative that is not only mysterious but familiar and satisfying. Cate, an American disgruntled university professor, inherits a Scottish Castle and the title that goes along with it. The castle holds a secret that Cate discovers and leads her onto adventures she never believed could exist. Cate, as Lady Catherine of Dunhaven Castle, soon learns she also has customary duties that go along with the traditions of the castle and the duties to her heritage. Cate discovers that beloved heirloom jewelry, which she was intimately familiar with, had been stolen from her ancestor in the year 1925 and is determined to retrieve the jewels and apprehend the culprit. Cate and her supporting characters take up the challenge and begin the quest. Also, Cate begins experiencing strange and distributing nightmares that are directly associated with a bookcase in the castle's library, causing her distress and anxiety while dealing with her other mystery. The story is clever, fun, a twist of violent danger, with some surprising twist to add to the reader's enjoyment. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to escape into a good mystery.
I really like the introduction to the plot, the setting in a Scottish castle and the warm atmosphere, the really nice and jovial characters... unfortunately the narrative drags on continuously and nothing ever happens. I'm 25% of the way through the book and nothing interesting has happened so far... too bad, I'd like to keep reading, but I'm bored and I need to read something that engages me. Perhaps this book needs to be revised and cut in repetitive points that are not useful to the plot.
WOW oh WOW. I’ve read all three and can hardly wait for #4. These are great mysteries even though they’re a little unbelievable. I wish I could be Lady Cate. I’d love castle life and I myself have Scottish ancestors. Wish I could visit them.
Cate found out that back in 1925 there had been a jewelry heist involving the jewels in the MacKenzie family. She and her farm manager used her time piece to go back in time to try to solve where the jewelry went. Cate and her farm manager were getting good with time traveling.
Cate had a lot going on with Holiday season and events but decide to go back to 1925 to help solve the mystery of what happened to the family jewels. She encountered a lot of mysterious things going on there. Interesting how the mysteries were uncovered.
As Cate and Jack had their hand full with the stolen jewelry when they got back to the present time she had nightmares about a bookcase in the Library. Now is she was unraveling a new mystery???
I love this series! I read book one in lighting speed. I couldn’t put it down and didn’t want it to end. Even though it didn’t have a lot of referencing to Scottish things the series is so well written and involve you from the get go. Second book was the same. I’m so happy there is another book in this series to continue the adventure. LOVE LOVE LOVE this series
Holiday Heist at Dunhaven Castle: A Cate Kensie Mystery (Cate Kensie Mysteries Book 3) by Nellie H. Steele is an amazing story to read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I have loved reading. I highly recommend this story to everyone.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
I've read all three books and am looking forward to the next one! Knowledgeable Cate and skeptical Jack make a good pair. I even suspect a bit of romance, especially on Jack's side. This mystery took awhile to solve but Cate was up to the challenge and Jack is getting into the swing of time travel. What a fortunate Event to meet and get to know your ancestors!
A wonderful story. Intrigue, mystery, and another adventure to solve! Time travel, friendship, family history amongst hidden passages make for a great read. This is the third book I have enjoyed by Kellie H. Steele and am SO looking forward to more castle adventures!
I loved all three books in this series. A good who-done-it in a Scottish castle is downright genius ! Note to author: Jack and Cate must get married!!!
Another adventure for Cate and Jack! This time its to solve who stole two necklaces that had belonged to Victoria, Randolph's wife. So they travel back to 1925. Mayhem, and crazy stuff happen. The police officer in this one has the brains of a donkey. Lol. I had so much fun figuring out the truth and who done it. I was right about the who but not the why. I can't wait to read the next book!
Wow! Good fun, great mystery and more family matters revealed. Only drawback was adjusting to a different narrator. Looking forward to listening to the next audiobook in the series.
Every mystery I’ve read by Nellie H. Steele has been very well written with compelling characters and mysteries. I love reading about time travel and with these, Cate and Jack meeting their previous ancestors. Their largest concern is that whatever they do or say will not drastically change history. The audiobook was narrated by Liz Gentle. Liz is new to my listening repertoire, but is absolutely fantastic! Easy to recommend this author, this series, and this narrator. It’s a very well done series! 😍
Holiday Heist at Dunhaven Castle is Book 3 of a series titled “Cate Kinsie Mysteries”. Rarely, or better said, almost never, do I go back in a series to read books I might have missed. However, I think this is a time that I’ll break my rule. This enjoyable cozy kept my interest all the way through. Age makes no difference in thinking it fascinating to inherit a Scottish castle. When you dangle a castle, a dog, AND a mystery in front of me, I’m hooked.
I really like Memoir Steeles writing. She draws you right into the mystery. If you like solving mysteries you'll love this continuing of Cate Kensie's story. Be sure to read them in order.
Great series about a time-traveling Countess. Clever plotline and enjoyable characters, and without graphic violence or inappropriate language, makes this book and the rest, a pleasant escape into unreality! I can't wait for more!
Such a fun book. I enjoy books written with a Christmas holiday theme. Love Christmas and everything about it-so this book caught my attention. I already had read the first two books in the Cate Kensie Cozy Mystery series, and enjoyed them both very much. In this book, Cate and Jack (her estate manager), continue their time traveling adventures to solve a heist mystery that occurred in her family’s past. In 1925, to be exact. The mystery is fast paced and fun, but I really enjoyed Cate’s relationships with her family, friends, and employees-past and present. The author, Nellie H. Steele, is good at making the reader feel involved and invested in the story. Which makes for an enjoyable and quick read back in time in book three of this series. You will enjoy it.
I have really tried to like this series, but absolutely will not read another book. The writing is just plodding. There isn’t quick enough plot development to keep the reader well engaged. This particular book had a second small mysterious subplot, if you could even call it that, than lended no development at all. Characters lack development, with the exception of Lady Cate, which is mostly limited to her constant over analyzing. Chapters are very repetitive; same thing in every chapter, with very little traction moving story forward. Conversations are irrevelavent, repetitive. Blah blah blah. Lots of unreached potential……
I like the idea, and it forms well into a mystery from the past. At the same time I think they left the opportunity for the small changes in the past to more fully develope into a happier "now" story at the end.
Additionally, as the host parties in the present time, they are failing to put anything in to expect future visitors traveling back to the now time. There should be an open invitation and/or some "distant relatives" visiting during this party and they could notice the clothes aren't quite right.

This was a fun sequel, although I found the nightmare sequences were a bit much. I like the way the relationship between Cate and Jack continues to unfold and am looking forward to more mysteries in the castle. I can't help but wonder, however, if they encounter someone who is aware of who they are in each era they travel, how much of a secret can it be? What will happen if someone in the past comes forward with them and doesn't want to return, or learns just enough to make altering the past possible?
Held my interest pretty well, but it was pretty much the same as the last book. Cate keeps getting into trouble running off on her own -- you'd think she'd learn eventually! The ruby and sapphire necklaces that they saw in the 1890s have been stolen in the 1920s. When they discover a note that appears to blame a relative, Cate fears that it is her great-grandfather (?) who is the culprit, and decides they have to solve it.
I found this book very entertaining. Cate and Jack are working together to solve a 1925 mystery of stolen jewels. I liked both well written characters and their friendly relationship. This standalone book is part of a highly recommended fun series. The Scottish castle setting adds more mystery and there are a delightful set of supporting characters.
I honestly cannot say anything negative about this series. It's a clean, well written series that has kept me interested the whole time. I would recommend this series to anyone who loves to read a good mystery book.
Holiday Heist at Dun haven Castle :A Cozy Time Travel Mystery book 3
Back to 1925 to solve a great theft and Back has to use his "lawyer expertise" Lady Cate has nightmares over a bookcase in the library. Lots of theories and great mystery.
This one just did not hold my attention. And it was entirely too easy to solve. I am really not sure how any mystery solving is accomplished between eating endless meals and endless walkies for the dogs.
