The detective trio of Maggie, Owen, and of course, Pepper, are back on the case. When their former high-school teacher turned chef and restauranteur is discovered dead by his lover after opening night, accusations are thrown helter-skelter. At least they didn't find the body this time.
I found that although the book sagged a bit in the middle, the potential reunion and new discoveries kept me turning pages. I even cried a little, I must admit. Some very touching scenes. This installment would be greatly appreciated by both cat and dog lovers.
I was also able to guess correctly who the criminal was. Yay me! This third book was not my favourite of the set so far, but I did enjoy it. look forward to the next installment to see where the series goes.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Driftwood Deceptions: A Black Cat Cozy Mystery is book #3 in The Maggie and Pepper Mysteries series by Wendy Ledger.

There’s a new murder in Harmony Beach and Maggie and Owen plan to stay out of it. They need to find Salt, Pepper’s sister, that new was separated from as a kitten.

Poor Pepper. As a kitten, he knew he had to leave Salt to go with Maggie’s mom but he was filled with regret. I like Maggie and Owen as a couple. The town’s attitude towards Maggie sure has changed. They were there for her when she needed help. I love how it all wrapped up, both the murder mystery and for the pets.

Investing and fun read. I couldn't put it down.

The characters are fun and love the descriptions. I can easily picture the characters. If you enjoy a mystery that has unexpected twists and unusual characters. You'll find yourself not wanting to put it down.

Great cozy mystery!

The books in this series just keep getting better and better! The two mystery plot was executed well with the perfect amount of detail to each. I continue to enjoy following the trio of Maggie, Pepper and Owen. I can't wait to see what happens next!

As I had hoped we got to meet a very special character in this one tied to Pepper. Of course, tracking them down is its own adventure, together with investigating two interconnected murders. What a ride this one was. This installment had a larger page count, more complex plot and better writing/editing. It's my favorite of the series so far. The writing was so addictive that I flew through this. Not only do we get Maggie and Pepper, but we also get another sleuthing duo towards then end! The next book is the fourth and final (so far?) and I can't wait to read it.
