Why play nice when you can be naughty? Jessica Bauer is aces when it comes to security, but the PR side? Not so much. Now she has a chance to take over Knight Securities--if she plays nice with the next client. Unfortunately, that client happens to be Declan McCabe. And it's too bad someone wants him dead, because after he broke her heart ten years ago, Jessica would have cheerfully murdered him herself. Declan has taken his dad's not-so-reputable company and turned it around, and in the process, he's attracted the attention of some vicious killers. The only perk is being reunited with Jessica, who Declan still wants so much he can barely see straight. But Jessica has a plan of her own. She'll protect Declan. She'll have unbelievably hot sex with him. And when the job is finished, she'll move on. Except that this time, Declan isn't so willing to walk away . . . Contains mature themes.

Growing up in the cold, wet, north of England, Nina Croft spent a lot of time dreaming of faraway sunnier places and ponies. When she discovered both, along with a whole load of other things, could be found between the covers of a book, her life changed forever.

Later, she headed south, picked up the perfect husband along the way, and together they volunteered to work in Africa. There they discovered a love of exotic places and a dislike of 9-5 work. Afterward they spent a number of years travelling (whenever possible) intermingled with working (whenever necessary.) Eventually they stumbled upon a remote area in the mountains of southern Spain and the small almond farm they now call home.

Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies—sunshine and ponies. She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough.

Nina's writing mixes romance with elements of the paranormal and science fiction

You know I hate you, Declan. I've hated you for a long time. Too long."
He swiped his tongue across his lower lip. "Baby girl, I love the way you hate."

Oh man, there is nothing I love more than a lovers reunited trope....unless you make them jilted lovers. Then, I will gobble that right up like Thanksgiving turkey.

Now truth be said, lately the mere mention of a 'millionaire' or 'billionaire' in my books make my eye twitch. I'm burned out a little on that particular thing, but something about this series and Nina Croft's writing just works for me. I absolutely love it. While I wasn't too enthusiastic about Out of Control, this one made up for it in spades. The best book in the series so far.
She was unfinished business. And he meant to finish it. And enjoy the process. And she would, too.

Declan McCabe is in trouble; someone is trying to kill him. After taking over his father's business and turning it legitimate, he's turned in some very damning evidence on his father's old "acquaintances" and they're anything but happy about it. When he gets shot, his father doesn't take no for an answer and hires protection from Knight Security. Unfortunately for Declan, his personal bodyguard is also the blast from the past that he never got over and least of all ever expected to see again; Jessica Bauer.
I'll never forgive you, but I want to forget you.
His lips tightened for a second, and then he shrugged. "Fair enough."

Jess is exactly the type of spitfire heroine I love to read about. She's tough as nails, sharp-witted, and has a take no prisoners attitude. She's never forgiven Declan for walking out on her ten years ago. So while she may have to protect his body, that's all she'll be doing...until the passion that used to run between them comes right back with a vengeance.
She'd forgotten what desire felt like. A craving in the blood. A deep need to sink into sensation and never come up for air.

The chemistry between Jess and Declan is absolutely sizzling. I couldn't get enough of it. Declan is a dirty talking god, and Jess is a snark lovers dream. It was perfection. I read this book in one sitting and didn't want it to end.
She thought they were getting each other out of their systems. She was wrong. He just had to work out the right time and place to explain that to her.

While characters from the previous books make an appearance in this one, you can easily read this one as a standalone. To be honest, I barely remember what happened in the previous 2 and I had no issues.

I really hope that Declan's tatted up and bad boy brother will be getting his turn at love next because that's definitely going to make for one interesting read.

4.5 - "I love the way you hate." Stars!

Taking Control is the third installment in the Babysitting the Billionaire series. Not quite as good as book one, but just as enjoyable as book two. I like that each one has focused on one particular couple whose relevance to Knight Security varies.

She was a bitch. He liked it

This book’s is Jess’s story, being second in command to Jake Knight, she has always managed to stay behind the scenes and with her no-shit-take-no-prisoners attitude, it has worked well. Jake is now looking to step down and concentrate more on family life, so it is up to Jess to prove that she can alter her attitude to encompass the open, friendly outgoing persona that being a company figurehead would require, or risk the job going to someone else in the company.

She was unfinished business. And he meant to finish it.

Declan McCabe knows Jess, he was her first and he has never forgotten her, even though things ended on a sour note. Their second-chance-at-love story isn’t unusual in its themes, but it is well written, sexy and I really liked the push and pull between them as a pair. Declan is protective, whilst Jess is meant to be his protector.

They are both looking to be the dominant force, but after past experience Jess is not looking to get her emotions tangled with anything more than a little sex on the side.

”I’ll never forgive you, but I want to forget you.”

Another great book by Nina Croft, an author who has given me nothing but pure reading pleasure in 2014! I hope that we will possibly get a more in depth look at Declan’s brother Logan in 2015, a guy with tattoos, a bad attitude and a dirty past is most definitely hiding a story I would want to read about.

4 Declan is a.. stars

The third book in this Babysitting the Billionaire series introduces us to Jessica Bauer, the potential future head of Knight Securities.

We had met Jake in the first story, the founder of the firm, who is contemplating taking a step back from his role for more time with his family. He considers Jess an ideal candidate in every way, except her bedside manner. The remit for her next job is to attempt honing her smalltalk; her pleasantry; her manner. Something brusque Jess would have to work really, REALLY hard at.

Declan McCabe is a successful and considered CEO of a once floundering and disreputable company. After taking over from his father, he had grown the business considerably, ensuring it’s practices fell easily on the right side of the law.

Declan’s father, Rory, had approached Knight securities because an attempt had been made on Declan’s life. Had he known that Jess worked there? Because they were not strangers, in fact Declan had broken Jess’s heart 10 years ago, and her promise to Jake to change her ways with the next client, was surely going to be broken at the very first meeting.

I love a badass bird, and Jess had it in bucket loads. Her army training had ensured her physical ability to protect any client, but did she have the strength to protect her heart? Her acerbic tongue was put to great use during her immediate skirmishes with Declan. She had years worth of hate to vent after all.

Declan was cool and calm on the outside, with slow burning lust bubbling close to the surface. Nina’s ability to define these characters so well meant that I gained an immediate connection to them and their fiery rendezvous. Coupled with a great storyline ensured I was slap bang in the middle of it, keeping my eyes peeled! An engaging story, with some unique lines and humorous moments.

“You know I hate you, Declan. I’ve hated you for a long time. Too long.”
“Baby girl, I love the way you hate.”

Taking Control is another good addition to Nina Crofts Babysitting a Billionaire. I love how she has turned this series on its head with the heroine being the protector and Jessica Bauer is one of those heroines you'll never forget.

description

Sassy, stubborn and sarcastic, she's in line for taking over the running of Knight Security - as long as she proves her nice side with her next client. Not so easy when her charge is the man who left her broken hearted ten years ago and she's not the only one that wants to kill sexy CEO Declan McCabe, but if he gets his way there'd be no sweeter way to go...

description

In comparison to the previous books in the series, it took a little warming up, but when it got going it got going I did enjoy it. Jess and Declan have the chemistry that only a couple with a history can generate, their shenanigans are filled with heat and with the whodunnit playing in the background the storyline had momentum. The epilogue did fall a little flat for me; I don't know if this is the end of the series, if it is I'd have liked a little bit more, but if it's not I'll certainly be reading whatever comes. I love the British-ness of Nina Croft's writing and the perfect balance of heat and humour she always injects. 3.5 stars.

By far, this is my favorite of the Babysitting A Billionaire series, and it's got way more feminine badassery than the first two books, and it's much intense and much
sexier, and it features one of the best friends in the previous series, Jess Bauer and an old fling.

Jess Bauer is a total bitch. But when she's in line for a promotion to be the head of the company, sometimes, nice is a main requirement. How can she play nice when sarcasm and bitchiness is already stuck to her like second skin? She's brash, ice cold, and a total badass who can beat up anyone's ass.

Meeting Jess in the first two books, I know I was going to love her. Her personality was just sweetly evil, and doesn't give a single crap about anyone. She's definitely got the "Touch me, and I'll cut you" attitude going on.

A total workaholic and the CEO of a major company, Declan McCabe is literally a VIP, and someone's out to get him. He's already been close to dying twice in a row: a gunshot and a bomb blow up. When his father declares he needs bodyguards, hence, hiring the agency Jess works for without his knowledge, he wasn't expecting Jess to walk into his office, looking all powerful and flawless, except for that one scar on her face that made her look like a total badass queen with a gun under her coat.

He's down to rekindle old flames, especially with Jess since he's never real gotten over her... But seeing this meeting as a second chance at their love life that went crashing downhill previously, he's definitely ready to get her back.

They say, when you play with fire, you get burned... or you melt. Either way, they both don't sound positive. Jess's ice cold nature is bound to melt under the heat of Declan's desire for her. And Jess knows she's bound to get hurt, but she wouldn't be able to resist a little bit of sexy play luring her in. Their relationship just equals pure hotness, like instantly flaming gasoline that can set a whole warehouse on fire. Her hatred towards him just fuels up so much desire, which basically makes their whole love life a grenade ready to explode.
"You know I hate you, Declan. I've hated you for a long time. Too long."

He swiped his tongue across his lower lip. "Baby girl, I love the way you hate."
Not only did I enjoy their chemistry as a couple, but I also enjoyed them as separate individuals, most especially Jess. She's literally the queen of badassery, and among all the books I've read with badass female characters, I'd say she's part of the top ten. And don't let me get started on Declan, who could literally kick away Christian Grey in a heartbeat, because he is just the bomb.

Nina Croft continues on what she's insanely good in; steamy scenes and the right amount of romance and drama, all mashed in one book. And with the second chance romance trope as a favorite, but not many authors are able to pull off a non-cliche story flow, I'd say this book nailed the trope and even gave me more than I expected. This book definitely hails as my favorite of the whole series, and I'll be damned if this would be the last installment of the series because I'm excited for another Nina Croft creation and another member of badass bitches.

If you're looking for a quick read, featuring flawlessly imperfect heroines with shoulder holsters, and over the top steamy scenes, this book is definitely one you should pick up.

Advanced Readers Copy of this book Courtesy of Entangled Publishing...:)

I absolutely adored the story of Jessica and Declan. This is really shaping up to be a great series with both strong and likeable characters....

We have met Jess in the previous books as she is best friend with the leading heroines in those books. Jess works for Knight Security with Jake where she is the number 2 in charge. Jake is retiring from the business and Jess wants his job. Only problem is she needs to be "nice" to the clients and she is not sure she is up for that task. After all she hates being "nice" When Jake approaches her with their latest client, she tells him she will play nice and prove to him that she is perfect for the job. Only problem is, she did not expect that client to be Declan McCabe the man that broke her heart 10 years ago.

Declan is all work and no play. He has put McCabe Industries number 1 for as long as he can remember. When he gets shot, due to testifying in a court case against money launderers, his father hires security guards to protect him. When his ex girlfriend walks into his office, he cant believe that he is finally getting a second chance to rectify what he messed up all those years ago. Now all he has to do is convince Jess that he is a changed person and that he wont walk out on her again....should be easy, right?

This is really a great story about second chance love, which just happens to be one of my favourite types of stories. The sex steams are insanely hot and this is one read you definitely want on your kindle this Christmas to warm you up....:)

ARC received from: Publisher

Rating: 4*

Cover: Yay

Trope: Reconciliation romance

Chemistry: Simmering

POV: 3rd Person

One-Sentence Summary: Two lovers are reunited after 10 years when Jess is employed to be Declan's bodyguard

Positives: Past lovers reunited, decent plot to accompany the romance, roles reversal with the woman being the kickass bodyguard

Negatives: I can't decide how I feel about the mix of Americanisms and British language. Whilst the characters talk about 'pricks' and 'shagging', typically British, the next minute the writer talks about going to the "ER". I suppose this is because the books are written mainly for an American audience but the author is British and the book set in Britain .....

My Review
3.5 stars

*ARC provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for honest review*
I liked the first two books, but this one wasn’t as good as the first two.

What I like about this series is that it’s the woman protecting the man. Usually it’s the other way around. I really liked that.
However, I did like Jessica. I liked that she was bossy, didn’t take any shit and she was in the Army.

Declan, I did like him too. But he was a lot like all the other men out there.

So one of my problems with the books was not much of anything happened through the book. Something happens at the beginning, then nothing in the middle, and a very easy resolved ending. I like books where things happen all through it.

Overall: I can only say that I liked it. Didn’t love it nor did I hate it. Just liked it.
Recommended: Yes, if you have read the two previous books then yes, I would read this.

Taking Control
The third installment in the series.
I liked it.
The plot was simple and to the point.
I really like how this author never beats around the bush and gets to the point of the story right from the get go.
Declan and Jess made a good pair and they worked together a hot romance for sure.
If nothing else, you'd get a lot of steamy scenes.
What I think the book lacked was the emotional connection between the two protagonists.
I mean, I love second chance romances. They're hot and full of angst.
But what the problem here was that the author mainly focused on the emotional connection that the two of them shared in the past.
Whatever they felt for each other in the present was not mentioned without the reference to past. It's not like that it's wrong. It's just that, it still left me feeling unsure about the present.
Also, I think the epilogue could've done in a better way.
Much better.
But the book was fun, no doubt.

I received an e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, didn't realise it was the third book in a series when I started it but everything still made sense. It's one of those series where the characters are from other books but the storylines don't follow on, so you don't have to have read one to understand the other. (Like Anna and the French Kiss) which I really liked.

It was funny and sexy and I loved the character development in this. The writing was really well done, making you feel really invested in the plot and the characters which can be difficult for an author to achieve.
Would definitely recommend picking this up!

This is a great, hot, sexy read!! Jessica Bauer can't believe after ten years and one broken heart, she is staring at Declan McCabe again. He needs a bodyguard and is demanding she is the only one that can do it. A huge promotion rides on this job so Jessica decides to play nice while extracting her revenge. It's definitely a good one! I highly recommend it.

Even though I wasn’t a fan of the first two books in the series, I was interested to know how Nina would develop Jess story. Her broken relationship had been mentioned several times in the previous two books so I thought Nina would take a different approach with the third book. Unfortunately, she doesn’t and out of all the book, I would say this one is the worst.

From the first two book, you always felt as though Jess was older than the other two female characters from the previous books and was more driven, but in this book she is pathetic.

At the start of the book Jess wants to be taken seriously to get the promotion, but she behaves like a child throughout the book as well as inappropriate, that even Dave calls her up on her behaviour.

As usually Nina focus is sex can cure anything, but by the fourth sex scene even that is repetitive.

From the previous books, you thought this was going to a deep relationship with an ex, but it turns out, it was just a summer fling, that they barely spent 6 months together. Apart from her getting pregnant and losing the baby there was no real depth to the relationship. As originally, Declan thought she was a tart and loss cannon and Jess seem more obsessed with him.

Similar to the previous stories there a number of flaws in the plot
• At one point Declan breaks up with Jess because she was out joyriding and then Jess says she was looking for him to tell him about the baby? Which was it? You can totally understand why Declan would want to breakup with her if she was out joyriding, especially if he didn’t want to get a criminal record. And if she was looking for him why was she steeling cars?

• Throughout the first two books Jess has always show she like the army and in the second book she is put in charge of the security knight, that why its difficult to understand why she wants to change her career after meeting with Declan again?

The whole her getting shot at the end was a bit of a cliché but clearly to Nina getting shot doesn’t really affect people physically. Not soon after Declan gets shot, he back in the office having sex with Jess up against the wall and even bungee jumping.

Overall I felt there was no substance to the book.

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

Taking Control is the third book in the Babysitting a Billionaire series by Nina Croft. Each book can be read as a standalone with interconnected characters. I was really excited to read this one because not only is it a second chance love story, but the heroine was a total badass. She was fun and feisty and wasn't afraid to say what was on her mind. This was a fun read, and it had some really great steamy moments as well.

Jessica Bauer has a bit of an attitude problem and isn't afraid to admit it. But when her friend Jake tells her that in order to get her promotion she needs to tone it down and be nicer, she vows to be so nice that her new client will be singing her praises. That is until he meets her new client and finds out that it is none other than Declan McCabe, the same man that left her and broke her heart ten years ago. Jess knows that she needs to make things work, so she sets out to be as professional as possible even though it about kills her. But as the passion reignites between them, she decides to explore the chemistry between them once again and get him out of her system for good. But just when it is looking like they will be able to finally put things to rest, she finds out that Declan isn't willing to let her go so easily this time.

I liked both Declan and Jessica. Declan was the buttoned up billionaire that had lived his life according to what his parents wanted. He always did the right thing and was exactly what was expected of him. But he had a bit of a wild streak underneath that seemed to only be brought to the surface with Jessica. When he was with Jess, you could see all the passion and fun that his life was otherwise missing. I loved seeing him loosen up, and I thought that he was so much better with Jess in his life. Jess was an awesome heroine, and I really liked her character. She wasn't into makeup and fashion, but rather was into guns and kicking ass. She was fun and feisty, and told it like it is. I liked that while she had never fully gotten over what happened with Declan, that she wasn't just sitting around pining for him either. She lived her life and became very successful at what she did. I did think that it was great to see her soften a tiny bit with Declan though. Not that she lost her edge, but just that she was able to have another side to her with him around. They had a ton of chemistry, and I enjoyed the back and forth between them. The tension was so thick, and I just knew that sooner or later there was bound to be an explosion.

Overall, Taking Control was my favorite that I have read from this series. These two were great, and I really enjoyed their story. They had both moved on with their lives, but it was clear that they weren't really living. They were going through the motions and trying to ignore the hole that the other had left behind. I enjoyed seeing the previous characters as well, and I thought that all the secondary characters added a lot to this story. I am looking forward to reading more from Nina Croft in the future, and I would love to see more of some of the others from Knight Securities.

What would you do if your first love walked into your office and was meant to be your bodyguard? And what would you change to get a second chance with that person?

With these two simple questions and a touch of danger you get a fantastic read from Nina Croft in this babysitting the billionaire novel. I loved the idea of two former lovers being forced together after a ten year absence. The fact that it’s under less than ideal circumstances only adds to the fun. Add in that the undeniable chemistry they share you get a hot read that will keep you turning the page.

When security specialist Jessica Bauer is given her next assignment, one that she has to play nice with or she can kiss goodbye to her much wanted promotion, she never expected to see the man who broke her young heart ten years ago. Yes she was a bit an of a loose cannon back then but people change. She sure has. But the hatred she feels towards this one man is still there, can she put a lid on it and play nice for the sake of her job?

Declan McCabe has managed to make some vicious enemies turning his father’s once illegal business legal and now someone has taken a shot at him. His father has hired some bodyguards to protect him, but he never expected Jessica to walk into his office. Or that the attraction he once had to her and walked away from to come roaring to the surface again. But that’s exactly what happens.

After initially turning down the offer of bodyguards, Declan has a change of mind when another attack happens. This puts him in close, personal proximity to Jess and they find themselves unable to keep their hands off each other. Much to the surprise of Jess’s workmates who call her the ice queen. Little do they know how quick she melts under Declan’s touch.

As they grow closer again, old hurts come to the surface. Yes they were young and probably would have ended up being miserable together but they never had the chance to find out due to Declan’s father, the very person pushing them together now. But can they find a way to be together as adults before someone truly hurts Declan or will the past be too much to overcome?

This book was a fantastic read, I loved Jess’s strength and she went through a lot to get to where she is. Declan is no slouch either. I loved how he changes over the course of the book into the true Declan. Plus we get to see characters from a previous book pop up and they may have had me laughing more than once. From the beginning to the end this book had me hooked.

But I have to say that my favourite part wasn’t even part of the book. The author’s acknowledgement had me tearing up. You sometimes forget that authors have real lives and struggles just like the rest of us. This made think, and reminded me to be grateful for the words they take the time to write, shape and share with us. Thank you, even if you never see this, thank you.

Taking Control by Nina Croft is the third book in the Babysitting the Billionaire series. It can be read as a stand alone, but it would be great if you read the first two books in the series. I enjoyed this installment, but not as much as I did the previous installments. This is a hot and sizzling story about having a second chance at love. Taking Control is the story of Jessica Bauer and Declan McCabe. Jessica was introduced in the previous installments and I was glad to see her getting her own story and what a story it is. She is second in command to the CEO of Knight Security. Jessica is a bad-ass no nonsense female who has no interest in dating much to the chagrin of her male colleagues. However, under this tough exterior it is clear that she is vulnerable and is afraid to get emotionally involved. The reason for her apparent bad ass attitude became clear when Declan McCabe re-appeared in her life. Declan is the CEO of McCabe Industries. He became the target for assassins when he uncovered a money laundering scheme within the organisation. In a bid to protect his life, his father Rory McCabe hired Knight Securities to provide security for him. He did this with the knowledge that Jessica worked with the security company. Declan and Jessica have an explosive past. As teenagers, they were hot and raunchy and not in control of their hormones. Jessica was always getting into trouble and as a result Declan’s father had them separated as he felt that she was not a good influence on his son. Jessica was devastated when things ended between her and Declan. As mature adults, they are a far cry from what they were as teenagers, but the one thing that has not changed is their feelings for each other. Their reunion is even more explosive than their past. The interaction between Declan and Jessica is emotional and hot and readers are given insight to their fears and insecurities. This makes it easy to make a connection with them. Taking Control is a fast paced story that pulls its readers in and keeps them entertained to the end. It is an easy and enjoyable read that will make you keep turning the pages as you are eager to see the outcome. If you love second chance romance that sizzles and that keeps you entertained then Taking Control is the book for you. DISCLOSURE: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have a thing for guys named Declan. I don't know why but they always do it for me, and this one is no exception. This book has a little bit for everyone. Our Declancomes from a shady family with even shadier business dealings, and his attempt to clean up that business has left him in danger. Thanks to an annoying and overbearing anther, Declan is getting himself a brand new bodyguard to keep him safe.

Jessica is my kind of heroine. She is a complete badass! A broken heart from her wild child days left her reeling, but she pulled herself up by her bootstraps, joined the army, and now kicks ass as a bodyguard. Always in charge, and always in control, Jessica is thrown for a loop when she finds out her next job is going to be to protect Declan, the man who broke her heart years ago.

I love Jessica and Declan together! We get glimpses at their past, when they were young and wild without a care in the world. Well, Jessica was more of the wild one, and Declan was along for the ride. Full of passion but short lived, they both suffered when they were separated after a night when Jessica got just a little too crazy. Now that they are thrown back together, Jessica is determined not to let Declan take her closely held and hard earned control back. She wants to keep him at a distance and keep things professional, but more impoartantly keep her heart from being broken once again. Declan on the other hand, is working hard to reignite the spark that they once had.

I'd like to say that I really admire Declan's perseverance in winning ask Jessica. Really. He is a dirty, dirty boy who has no shame when it comes to location or timing as he sets about convincing Jessica that she needs to give him another chance... and he is convincing. I love his dirty mouth (and dirty everything else), and apparently so does Jessica because her protests die a quick death when he sets about doing ALL THE DIRTY THINGS!!

This is a great second chance romance, with suspense and mystery mixed in. We get a super hot alpha male who swiftly takes control in the bedroom (and wherever else they manage to get up to sexy times), going head to head with a strong female character who is not one to be pushed around. There's drama, action, and hot, hot sex. What more could you want in a book?

****A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for an honest review****

Jessica Bauer wants to prove to her boss, Jake, that she has what it took to get the job done; Now she has a chance to take over Knight Securities sadly for her, that means protecting the man who broke her heart years ago, Declan McCabe .

Declan has come to Jake’s company for help because someone has tried to kill him and he has come to Jake’s company for help. Jake decides Jessica will be Declan’s bodyguard. Jessica can’t believe it but decides she will do it, to prove she can handle anything thrown at her so she can run the company AND to get Declan back for how he treated her. 10 years ago Declan walked out of Jessica as she lay in a hospital bed and never looked back so Jessica has a lot of hurt and anger in her heart toward him now since Declan seems to think they can pick up where they left off.

I loved the idea of two former lovers being forced (albeit it is to save Declan’s life) together after a ten year absence. The fact that it’s less than ideal means only adds to the enjoyment.
As the story wove together, Declan and Jess grew closer, old hurts rose to the forefront. They argued about their being so young together and maybe their relationship years ago wouldn’t have last that long or they would be together but horribly unhappy but never would know due to Declan’s father who kept them apart but now has brought them back together. Has he only brought them back together to seem them burn up due to the instability of the past? Was everything too much to overcome –too much, too late?

This book was a great second chance at love story. I loved reading about each side of the story and about what Jessica went thru in her past to what made her to who she is today. Declan, wow! One hot alpha male. Loved reading about him and his back story, Fantastic Read !! This is a wonderful story , one to read over and over again.

My rating: 5 stars *****

A badass who hates to play nice, Jessica Bauer is aces when it comes to security but she’s been ordered to make nice on her newest assignment to protect Declan McCabe…the man she could cheerfully murder in this explosive contemporary romance.

There is never a dull moment in this fast paced and smooth flowing plot full of action, suspense and passion and Nina croft brings her characters to vibrant life and captures the imagination. Sparks fly in every direction when Jessica is forced to protect the man who broke her heart in order to get her promotion and Declan who doesn’t want or need a babysitter reluctantly accepts Jess as his bodyguard. The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the passion of their relationship because there is so much of it as their attraction is combustible from the very beginning but so is the past as it causes some explosive encounters as well.

The well written scenes and details capture the imagination and have the reader’s feeling as if they are part of all the excitement. Spine tingling tension builds as the tension between Declan and Jess as emotions soar higher and from the danger to Declan. All the characters are strong and compelling, but I have to say that Jess and Declan make a very explosive couple that vibrates with lots of intense personality and the reader can’t help but be charmed and impressed with Jess’s badass with attitude.

I haven’t read the previous books in this series yet, but that’s not a problem because the story can be read as a stand-alone and I will be reading those previous books since I got to meet those characters and they invited me to do so and I got completely caught up in this story and couldn’t put it down until I had read every last word.

4 ½ STARS

I've loved this series since the first book and have since read everything Nina Croft has put out. One thing that I really like about Nina Croft is that she writes strong heroines. I would definitely call Jessica strong. She was a wild child who when she decided to change her ways she really changed. She's mentioned in the previous books but this can be read as a stand alone. Now that her boss wants to settle down and spend more time at home he's looking for a replacement. Jessica is at the very top of the list. Problem is she's not just tough, she's a wrecking ball. She has no filter. In an effort to show her boss she can be nice, she vows to wow the next client... Not knowing who it would be.

Declan hated his fathers shady business practices and has spent his adult life making over the company into a legitimate business. That doesn't always sit well with the crooks his dad used to do business with. It also doesn't help when you decide to testify against them either. When 1 "accident" turns into a shooting, his dad demands he get security to protect him. Wait till he sees who's running the security company. Z

I didn't love Declan right away. I hated the way he treated her when they were kids. He slowly won me over, but I still liked Jessica better. I especially liked when she started showing her different layers. I gotta say I was crying like a baby when I read all the things Jess has been thru. I really wasn't expecting her story next but am so glad I read it. I dunno who we'll read about next!

Jessica and Declan were teen lovers split up by Declan's father and Declan's desire to be a perfect son. They meet up again 10 years later when Declan needs a bodyguard after someone tries to kill him.

Jessica was really damaged by the breakup and bears the scars literally and figuratively. Declan has become a lifeless workaholic. When they meet again, their attraction comes back full bore. They decide to wear out their sexual attraction, then Jessica will just walk away, but Declan is in love for good and plans to keep her. Since this is a romance, I think you know what will happen.

I liked the fact that Jessica is the bodyguard this time instead of the male character. It's realistic considering her military background (but I thought the Olympic medal in sharp shooting was a bit over the top). I also liked the twist with why Declan was being targeted.

We did find out some back story about Jessica late in the book, why she may have been so wild as a teen and why she was so damaged by the breakup that may have been helped our understanding of her reactions/motivations if earlier in the book. I appreciated the book showing that the break up of the characters when teens was probably the right thing, if they had stayed together, they probably would have broken up for good in their early 20's. Both have changed and are a better fit for a permanent commitment.

While characters from the first two books pop in briefly, this stands alone fine.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first time I can remember reading this author when it wasn't a paranormal genre. When the author is able to write in several genres and keep a reader interested that shows a gift to me. I also like these kind of novels where they is lots of action and danger. In this one there is a agency that has to protect someone that the agent is very familiar with or was a few years ago. Jessica has to protect her one time romance Declan but they will each have there own agenda on how this will be done. Second chance novels can be nice or in this case have a punch with it. When the bad guys want business same as usual even though things have changed that is what has gotten Declan in the hot seat. Jessica isn't the type of sickly sweet female she is more the bust a ball kind of gal and if she wants to be boss when the current one steps down she has to be nice. The fun is reading how that happens or not. They also will have some fun of their own but each with a different outcome desired from it. This has all the ingredients of a very hot action romance that is guaranteed to rev anyone's engines. Delcan will also think he is being slick but actually he will be thanking his stars that she is serious when it comes to protecting him. Nice twist to who the villain is. This also will get wrapped up with reader satisfaction. received a arc for a honest review.

MICHELLE'S REVIEW
I love this series from Nina Croft. Two books in a row have now given us bad ass females. Like:

In this case we have Jess- the badass bodyguard. When she finds out that the case that will determine if she takes over the company involves protecting the man who broke her heart a decade ago- she definitely has her work cut out for her.

This is an Entangled book so we know a few things are going to happen. For one- the sex will be awesome. I mean. Awesome.

But the other thing we know is that the man is going to have his work cut out for him. Declan certainly does in this book. He broke Jess and convincing her that he wants more than sex will be tough. Not only that but convincing Jess that it's worth loving him will be damn near impossible.

Throw in meddling family members and nosey co workers and you have a great book!

This is a fast read but a good one. I highly recommend it if you are looking for something light and sexy!

Declan and Jess fell in hot and heavy love as teenagers. But Jess was a little too wild for Declan, who was being groomed to take over the family business. Unknowingly, he left Jess when she needed him the most. She never forgave him.

Zoom forward 10 years, and Declan is a bored, corporate CEO. But someone is trying to kill him, which is kind of exciting. Jess is a security expert who wants a promotion. She's great at kicking butt, but not so good with making nice with clients. Declan's father arranges for Jess's agency to provide Declan's security.

Declan and Jess ignite in each other's company, even though Jess is still hurting. They agree to "get each other out of their systems" until the job ends. Lots of scorching sex ensues. Declan is HOT.

Declan wants more, but can Jess get over the past and follow her own heart?

***

I always enjoy Nina Croft's novels, and TAKING CONTROL is no exception. The characters are likable and draw you right into the story. Jess is sympathetic, even though she's rough around the edges. And did I mention that Declan is hot? Although the plot is a little predictable, the Epilogue is perfect.

Buy. Read. Enjoy.

Declan has had several attempts on his life after shutting down illegal activity happening at one of his affiliates. His father decides to hire security and specifically asks for Jessica. Jessica wants the top spot at the agency, but has some serious attitude issues. Her boss tells her that if she can play nice with the new client that he will give her the promotion. Then she finds out that it's Declan that needs protection. Years ago he broke her heart and she has never been the same. When she comes face to face with him Jessica realizes that those feelings for him haven't gone away, but she won't let him get close enough to hurt her again. Declan has been unhappy for awhile and after spending some time with Jessica realizes that she is part of the future he wants. Now he just has to convince her to open her heart again.

I so loved Declan. He's smoking hot and has a way with the naughty talk. I loved Jessica as well. She was bold and didn't take anyone's crap. Together they were white hot. I wanted more of them.

I give Taking Control 4 hearts!

Jessica Bauer works security and is very good at her job. Her problem is that she's not a people person. She needs to impress their new client, Declan McCabe. This is going to be hard. He walked out on her ten years ago and she's still not over it. When they meet, their attraction is off the charts. Where do they go from here? Jessica is a multilayered character. She acts tough but inside she's still hurting. She won't let this man into her life. I felt her anger and her desire. Declan is rich, powerful and bored. He still wants her but won't admit that he cares. I enjoyed seeing him realize that he loves Jessica and wants her in his life. Their battle of wills was amazing. The secondary characters are an interesting group especially Rory McCabe, Declan's father. He has meddled in his son's life for years and doesn't plan to stop. Nina Croft has done it again. Taking Control is a sizzling romance with a touch of suspense. The story is well plotted and fast paced. I wanted Jessica and Declan to forget the past and find their future together.

Taking Control is the second book I have read in this series. Young love gone wrong or maybe learning from the past so as not to make the same mistake a second time is at the heart of this story. I like the time lapse which gives these two characters time to have grown and reflected on their lives. I also liked the emotional conundrum Declan and Jessica are thrown into when they are reunited through her bodyguard work. Timing is clearly an important factor in this book. What wouldn’t have work ten years ago, just might be near perfect now.

Most of all, I like the strong independent is stubborn female lead in this story. Jessica is good at her job, has learned to rein the wildness in for the most part and can overcome the circumstances now. Wow, what a wonderful female lead. Declan has some lessons to learn now. I like that he is able to do that. Many times Alpha males are too one sided in stories. Declan is an impressive hero for Jessica to fall for all over again.

Taking Control is an entertaining contemporary read by Nina Croft.
