Alice Crane, a bookish young woman living in Toronto introduces us to the world of Celdora through a quixotic dream. Through her dreamers' eyes we experience the unique Celdoran custom of the Centurion and Union Ceremony of the Key Master and Door Maker.

In her waking life, Alice inherits her grandmother's modest home on Indian Road. It’s here that vivid dreams of a world beyond her subconscious, lead Alice to discover her Grandmother's secret lover and a passage to this hidden world through a swollen closet door.

Alice is lured deeper into Celdora; a malleable dreamscape land, by a seductive Celdoran native called Embry, who keeps his past and parentage secret from her. In her waking life, Alice’s concerned friends attempt to draw her back to reality by introducing her to a talented young musician called Luke. With his mother battling mental illness and delusions of her past, Luke is alone in caring for his kid sister and begins to rely on Alice for mental and emotional support.

When Alice uncovers her heritage, she must decide whether to take her place as a Suitor and save Celdora from the fate of the unstoppable Centurion, or turn her back on her new friends and settle for the life she’s created in the waking world. Little does she know, the choice will be made for her.

Fresh new point of view

I really enjoyed the world building of Celdora. I must be jaded, because I really expected for one of the leading males to become a lover to enemy. I cannot wait for there to be a book 2, because that ending is a cliffhanger.

Lucid was such an engaging read. The story was so captivating and creative. Such an unexpected twist. I felt like I knew the characters and could not wait to find out what happened next. It was hard to put down. I hope a sequel comes out so that we can find out if history repeats itself.
