Eugeena Patterson-Jones and her husband, Amos Jones, finally head out for their long-awaited honeymoon in Music City. As part of a surprise, Eugeena is treated to a concert starring one of her favorite singers. Cinnamon Waters, also a childhood friend, invites Eugeena and Amos backstage. Behind the glitz and music, tension brews and Eugeena finds out someone wants to harm Cinnamon.
When one mishap after the other keeps happening, the couple’s romantic getaway takes a backseat to trying to save her friend’s life.

I’m happy to say my vacation read was yet again another excellent read by Moody. Eugeena just seems to beckon crime wherever she is but this book was one that dealt with friendships and family dynamics in a way the other books hadn’t. I totally enjoyed this book and will be watching out for more with Eugeena and Amos.
Eugenia Patterson just keeps stumbling into the best half baked crimes of any mystery. I couldn't rest until Amos threw his weight in with Eugenia to crack another murder surrounding a long lost childhood friend. Cinnamon is a singer now that has a lot of frienemies in Nashville including an ex. Gripping with murder and suspects from Chapter 2. Five stars
I'm usually a fan of the series and the characters but I chose to listen to the audio version this time and just didn't care for the narrator. Her tone of voice and style of reading made it difficult for me to stay focused on listening. I'm definitely sticking with the written version of the series going forward.
I always enjoy this series! A gentle mystery with sweet interaction between the characters, it's a quick and easy read. If you're looking for a cozy mystery with characters of retirement age with no graphic violence or sex, this might be your cup of tea.
This review is in regards to the audiobook and narration ONLY.
I started out being interested by the description. A more mature couple on their honeymoon and the possibility of investigating a murder. My first issue was the couple sounded like they were in their 80's instead of their 60's. I could only think, my parents don't sound like they are that old. Maybe the narrator was trying to do an older person voice or something.
I think this may have been a good book had there been a different narrator. This narrator completely distracted me from the flow of the story. She would be reading the dialogue with some emotion, and suddenly start reading a...word...at...a...time. It sounded like a kid who lacked confidence reading out loud in class for the first time.
In addition to being distracted, it was frustrating. I had to keep rewinding because I was missing details while thinking about why she was reading the book in that manner. I spent too much time trying to make the actual content of the book feel in sync with the narration.
This is the first book I have read from this author. Based on the narrator, it would be the last. I honestly can't say if it was a good book or not. I may try the first book and read it.
I don't want to dissuade anyone from listening to the audiobook if that is a reader's preference. I can only say the narrator was not for me and I will probably avoid anything she narrators. The preview did not provide a good enough sample of the overall narration imho. I would recommend you listen and judge for yourself
Okay so this was definitely NOT the honeymoon these characters were hoping for, lol. But let's be real - would it ever be a peaceful paradise getaway if Eugeena & Amos are involved? Nope! With those two around, things are gonna get mysteriously impossible real quick.
I gotta say, I was pretty impressed with how Tyora switched things up this time. She starts us off thinking someone's been murdered by like, chapter 3? That's a cool new twist compared to her other books.
I usually pride myself on figuring out who's gonna get murdered in these kinds of stories, but Tyora totally got me good this time! I was over here guessing 2-3 different people and all my guesses were completely wrong until the actual reveal happened.
And don't even get me started on the suspects! The twists and turns in this story had me literally bouncing between like 5 different people in half an hour, haha! One minute I'm convinced it's this person, then suddenly I'm like "wait, maybe it's THAT person!" Total rollercoaster.
Tyora definitely knows how to keep her readers on their toes. This newest Eugeena and Amos adventure is just as addictive as the rest!
There's no honeymoon for the sleuths! Why did they even try? I missed the usual side characters, and I wish our honeymooners had gotten to see and report on a bit more of Nashville's tourist spots, but I still liked the mystery. It was interesting learning more bout Eugeena's childhood. I hope we see more of Cinnamon in a future book.
The story line was good..but the the story was tight...meaning it felt like the story took place in 4 block town..there didnt feel like there was any expantion of the area to visualize as I was reading
Not a big fan of this one. I went back and reread my reviews of other books in the series and I loved them so not sure what happened. I struggled my way through this one. It felt like a cheap dimestore throwaway. I was glad when it was done. 🤷🏻
Excellent read, I loved the characters and storyline. Eugeena and Amos honeymoon trip turned into an adventure. She always stubbles upon a murder mystery to solve, which is always funny and entertaining.
I love, love, love the Eugeena Patterson Mysteries series! And this installment did not disappoint! Eugeena is an amature crime solver, but with her husband, Amos, they unlock another one. I just knew I knew who the killer was, but I was wrong again. Keep 'em coming, Tyora!
This is an impressive addition to the (Eugeena Patterson mysteries). The author writes well and the tales created are interesting, she has made me a fan of her mysteries. Sit back and enjoy!
Loved the story as usual. Tyora Moody as usual did an excellent job of keeping the interest and having you figuring out who was the guilty person. Excellent storyline great characters. 🦶🏾👩🏽🦱🦋
Eugenea and Amos worked great together on their honeymoon. I liked the twists and turn trying to figure out who did it. I’ve loved all Eugeena’s stories:
My favorite busybody, Ms. Eugeena finds herself wrapped up in another murder mystery surrounding her childhood friend, Cinnamon while on her honeymoon in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, Amos. Ms. Eugeena just can’t seem to mind her retired business which always leads to trouble for her. I love this series. Looking forward to reading the next one.
A fast and easy read!! Good flow, really enjoyed Eugeena and the other characters. The plot had enough twists and turns to keep you interested. Will read others.
A Spicy Predicament is the sixth book in the Eugeena Patterson mystery series by Tyora Moody. Eugeena Patterson-Jones did not intend to spend her retirement years as an amateur sleuth. But here we are! Perhaps being a schoolteacher for thirty years made her interested in learning little-known facts about people. It appears to be her mission.
Eugeena and Amos are finally heading to their honeymoon. As part of a surprise, Eugeena is treated to a concert starring one of her favorite singers, also a childhood friend. Cinnamon invites the newlywed couple backstage after the show. The fun reunion quickly turns into a murder scene. Now the planned romantic getaway takes a backseat to saving her old friend's life.
I love culinary cozy mysteries! And right now, Tyora Moody is my preferred author since I'm binge-reading most of her books. Super easy reading with the right touch of whodunit, not so obvious clues and characters that make you smile. I even took a liking to the suspects which made the mystery a wee bit harder to solve. Eugeena and Amos may be a long way from home but their investigative skills are sharp as ever.
I immediately started reading the next book so that tells you how much I enjoy this cozy mystery series. I recommend for light reading, Bookhearts! ~Literary Marie
