Get to Know the Tango Pioneers, Volume 2: Celebration of Tango Argentino, 1910 to 1919

Rate this book
The book is packed with rare facts and images from primary sources, many of which have not been seen in any other tango publication, and gives the pioneer performers and promoters of tango the recognition and gratitude that they deserve.

The chapters include QR codes to take you directly to music and films on the linked YouTube Channel (Get To Know Tango) so that you can Read, Watch, and Listen. It is a tango multi-media experience.

This period (1910 to 1919) sees the arrival and proliferation in Buenos Aires of the tango record and film industry, cabaret dance halls that would become known as 'milongas', the orquestas típicas, and the appearance of the next generation of tango stars D'Arienzo, De Caro, Di Sari, D'Agostino, Fresedo, Gardel, and Lomuto.

David's academic research in to the history of Argentine tango began in about 2013, and continues today. His investigative methods draw on his professional background: for 30 years David worked for UK national investigation & intelligence agencies - in both operational and strategic roles. He now prefers to apply his skills (of securing multiple corroborative sources to identify people, their associates, and their activities) to the more cultural world of tango.

In 2021/22 David completed the diploma course (La Historia del Tango) with the Instituto Argentino del Tango, Buenos Aires and is pleased to have hosted its president (Marcelo Castelo) in the UK.

In 2022 David was elected as the Chairman of the UK Argentine Tango Association.

David presents seminars on Get To Know Twenty Tango Orchestras and Get To Know the Tango Pioneers, and is a tango DJ in the UK and Europe. He enjoys dancing tango and, with his wife Marion, organises milongas and tango classes.
