Amy Harmon is a Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and New York Times Bestselling author. Amy knew at an early age that writing was something she wanted to do, and she divided her time between writing songs and stories as she grew. Having grown up in the middle of wheat fields without a television, with only her books and her siblings to entertain her, she developed a strong sense of what made a good story. Her books are now being published in two dozen languages, truly a dream come true for a little country girl.
Amy Harmon has written eighteen novels including the USA Today Bestsellers, Making Faces and Running Barefoot, as well as The Law of Moses, Infinity + One and the New York Times Bestseller, A Different Blue. Her fantasy novel, The Bird and the Sword, was a Goodreads Book of the Year finalist. Her newest release, What the Wind Knows, is an Amazon charts and Wall Street Journal bestseller. I couldn’t believe it when I saw this collection pop up for sale. Usually these collections can be a little disappointing with maybe one or two good ones. Not in this case, I enjoyed each of these stories. I actually already owned them and still had to buy the collection (killer deal at only .99 for pre-order). This collection contains the works of some of my favorite authors and I hope they come out with more collections in the future.
The Reluctant Bachelorette by Rachael Anderson I loved this one! It’s one of my favorite romantic comedies and one I’ve read a few times. Anderson’s books are charming and always give you a happily ever after.
She Owns the Knight by Diane Darcy Who doesn’t love a Knight? I’m a sucker for a medieval setting and loved this story. It’s a story that pops into my head from time to time.
Pride and Precipitation by Heather Horrocks Horrock’s books are full of fun. Great if you’re looking for a lighthearted romance.
Heart of the Ocean by Heather Moore Moore is a great storyteller. Her books always draw you in. I love a good mystery and a ghost story that isn’t too spooky. Combine that with a little romance and you have a winner.
My Own Mr. Darcy by Karey White Who doesn’t love a good Pride and Prejudice retelling? This was a lot of fun and had endearing characters.
Masquerade by Janette Rallison You can’t read a Rallison book without smiling! I loved this one and have re-read it a few times. I enjoy her YA books, but especially love her grown up books!
Running Barefoot by Amy Harmon I haven’t read this one yet, but I’ve heard great things about the author and look forward to reading this when the collection is released in February.
If you haven’t bought this yet, what are you waiting for? I think the pre-order price of .99 is just until it is released, so hurry!
All of these books are awesome! They're clean, fun, and completely romantic. I had read a few of them before, but reread them in order in this set and loved them even more the 2nd time.
Masquerade follows recently divorced Clarissa as she takes a job as a nanny to single dad Hollywood star Slade. He takes her and her daughter to Hawaii for a week to watch his 4 year old daughter while he tries to land an agent. The character blunders and wit as they get tangled up in chaotic scenes was great.
Running Barefoot was even more the 2nd time I read it. I love all the musical lessons about composers and the literature reveals that Amy Harmon is known for. Her Navajo stories are amazing. I love Samuel and Josie—they are my best friends after reading about them. The way they fall down, get up, fall down again, and still keep picking themselves up is inspirational.
The Reluctant Bachelorette is a cute, funny story where the main character gets tricked into being in her local Bachelorette show. The worst is that the man she's loved for over a decade comes back to town and she volunteers him for the show (before she knows she's the main star). Hilarious clear to the end.
My Own Mr. Darcy gives Elizabeth the dream she's always wanted when she meets her own Mr. Darcy. But she feels confused when she keeps finding herself thinking about her friend, Chad, instead of her dream. She must decide whether to go after her dream...or change it.
She owns the Knight was an awesome story. Gillian is magically transported back through time to 1205 A.D. and finds herself in the possession of a knight who has demanded a new wife after his first wife tried to murder him. When he sees her ring with the Corbett family crest on it, he believes she has been sent to satisfy his demands. Gillian wonders if she’s walked into a Candid Camera set up or some Medieval play gone awry. She plays along with the handsome knight, but soon feels her heart twisted as love begins to bloom. Such a great book. I couldn’t put it down.
Heart of the Ocean is a great story with a little ghostly intervention thrown in that makes it spooky at times, and darn right thrilling at others. I really like Eliza and Jon's story and the mystery of the ghostly voice that haunts them.
All of these books were great. This is a collection worth having. When I purchased this boxed set I had read most of the books but the couple I hadn't read yet were worth reading! Clean romance. :)
I am on the second book and loving this! Loved The Masquerade, and Running Barefoot. Time to start the 3rd one. Just finished the seventh one and loved them all. Well done, to all the authors. I reviewed each book as a stand alone. Good purchase.
Giving 5 stars for the book Running Barefoot...love it. A fav. And, She Owns the Knight. Two I've read repeatedly. The rest...fine, entertaining, 3-4 stars each.
I read all of these at separate times, so I'm just going to paste my review for each book into my review for this boxed set.
Running Barefoot: I really liked this book. The only thing I really didn't like was the amount of swearing. I liked the emotional pull of the story and the depth of emotion portrayed. I felt I could relate with Josie. I am in some ways similar to her and in many ways different. But both drew me to her. The similarities because they rang true to me, and the differences because I wanted to gain a better understanding of people from those things that were unlike me.
I loved the theme of music and books. I want to go back and listen to all the music mentioned in the book. I liked that the chapter headings were musical terms.
The different cultures portrayed in the book also drew me in. I love the Navajo culture, though I don’t know a lot about it, and liked how I learned a little bit more about it from this book. I also was intrigued by the culture of a town even smaller than the ones I've lived in and seeing my religion lived in a different way.
I learned from the characters in this book. From their actions, their thoughts, their insights, etc. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Rating: 4.5 Content: strong language (around 15-20 swear words), some passionate kissing
Masquerade: I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved the main characters. I felt like they were easy to relate to and the kids were cute. And the book made me laugh. It was a fun read.
I think a big part of what I didn't like was the theme of infidelity. While it was portrayed as something bad, I still didn't like how pervasive a theme it was. I do think the Hollywood atmosphere was portrayed in a tactful way, keeping it clean (at least for an older audience).
Overall, it’s a good book.
Rating: 3.5 stars Content: some sensuality, mentions of promiscuity and infidelity, social drinking
The Reluctant Bachelorette: I loved this book. A fun and enjoyable read. A book I struggled to put down for sleep and food.
Rating: 5 Stars Content: Clean
Pride and Precipitation: I really liked the characters and their unique quirks. The story really drew me in. But, the ending came quicker than I expected. I know it is a novella, but the ending caught me off guard. I expected more. But other than that, I really liked the book. It was also less like Pride and Prejudice than I expected, which isn’t a bad thing. I look forward to reading the other books in the Chick Flick Clique, because I really liked the characters in this book. They had a lot to depth to them, and I look forward to getting to better know some of the other characters that show up in this book.
Content: some mild innuendo Source: Purchased as part of the Romance Through the Ages box set.
My Own Mr. Darcy: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and loved the Pride and Prejudice tie-ins. It was a cute story that plucked at my emotions and made me think at times. The characters were well done. Lizzie was fun and quirky. The decision she had between the two guys kept me guessing, though I know who I was rooting for. I liked how some of the characters gave some really good advice. There were a few proofreading errors, and I considered docking half a star for that, but in the end decided that all the things I loved about the book outweighed the few proofreading errors. This book was a wonderful read!
Rating: 5 stars Content: Clean
She Owns the Knight: This was a fun read. I liked the time travel aspect and how things worked out in the end. I liked the main characters and the overall plot of this story. I thought there was too much of a focus on the physical attraction, but there were other aspects that drew them together.
Rating: 3 stars Content: lots of innuendo, some violence
Heart of the Ocean: It's been awhile since I read this book, but I found some notes I'd written about it, so I decided to write a short review from those notes. This book had a good story and good characters. I found it somewhat compelling. It did deal with some more mature themes.
Rating: 3 stars Content: about a dozen swear words, talk of premarital sex, abuse, and rape
I actually have read some of these books before, but had to get them at the amazing price they were offering on my kindle. I reviewed each book separately if you want more info on them. overall ratings: Language: clean, heat level: mild
Running Barefoot is the story of a small town girl and a Native American boy, the ties that bind them to their homes and families, and the love that brings them together. Cute story.
Masquerade is about a woman hired to be handsome Slade Jacobson's nanny. In between handling his whirlwind four-year-old daughter and dealing with a whole cast of Hollywood personalities, Clarissa has to keep a tight hold on her heart. A sweet romance I could read over and over.
The Reluctant Bachelorette tells of a woman who gets cast as the bachelorette in her town's charity event. When she discovers her old teenage crush, Luke Carney, is one of the bachelors and it's up to the viewers--not her--to decide which bachelors stay or go. Cute, but predictable. It was a fun read.
Pride and Precipitation is about Breezy Jones, a fun loving local television station's meteorologist. The new general manager, Noah Drake, who is determined to repackage everything--including Breezy's down-home delivery. Cute story.
My Own Mr. Darcy is about Lizzie who falls hard for Matthew Macfadyen's Mr. Darcy character and makes a promise to herself that she will settle for nothing less than her own Mr. Darcy. When she meets two men, Chad--a science teacher, and Matt Dawson--who looks and acts like Mr. Darcy, she's forced to re-evaluate what it was she loved about Mr. Darcy in the first place. Enjoyed it a lot-especially watching her struggle to find what she really wanted.
She Owns the Knight is a time travel romance. Why does Gillian Corbett have to travel seven hundred years through time to find a decent guy?... Why can't Sir Kellen Marshall find a lady who is obedient, submissive... or at least not trying to kill him? LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this one! My favorite of the whole set.
In Heart of the Ocean Eliza Robinson escapes New York for her aunt's home in a small puritan community. Ghosts, murder and romance keep Eliza guessing who she can trust with her life and her heart. Great book. Well written historical story.
Great collection! I had already read some of the books in this collection. Here is what I think of the ones I hadn't read: She Owns the Knight I was afraid this book would be really cheesy and too far fetched. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the characters and the author pulled of a believable plot. Running Barefoot This was surprisingly my favorite! I really connected with the characters. I had a strong emotional connection to the story. I am trying to find more to read by this author. Pride and Precipitation Cute, fun, easy read. Made me smile a lot! Heart of the Ocean Very different read, but I liked it. Not too scary and good characters. My Own Mr. Darcy Wasn't sure what to make of the plot, but really liked this book! I like the journey the main character went on as she discovers what "real love" is. Too many don't understand that.
I enjoyed this fun collection of romance novels that were clean from inappropriate scenes and bad language. They each had an element of suspense and humor also. They were each different and set in different time periods since they were by individual authors. It gave me a chance to see the writing styles of the authors also. I particularly enjoyed Janette Rallison' "Masquerade" and Diane Darcy's "She Owns the Knight". After reading Karey White's "My Own Mr Darcy" I had to watch my DVD of 'Pride & Prejudice' with Keira Knightly & Matthew McFayden, since the main character really had a thing for Matthew, transposed into a guy she met. If you don't have a lot of time for reading at once, this is a good set.
I bought this series of books, not knowing what they would be like, because they were inexpensive and there was nothing on TV except th5e super bowl. What a prize! I laughed (bed shaking and woke my husband) and cried (deaths of characters that hit home to me) and one was a bit scary to me but it got resolved so I can sleep tonight. All of them were good and I'm going to look up other books by these authors. If you are looking for sex, there is none. I enjoyed that the characters got to know one another before marriage and left the rest to my imagination. A couple books took place in previous centuries, a couple were nowadays, and one was time travel.
I am mixed on this one. Some of the stories I loved and some I didn't.
Masquerade: It was just funny to me. Running Barefoot: I really loved this read and the how the characters learn, change, and develop. The Reluctant Bachelorette: Just fun. Pride and Precipitation: An enjoyable read. My own Mr. Darcy: Liked it and was glad the girl finally got it right. She Owns the Knight: Time travel, misunderstanding, and too much wanting to have sex for me. Heart of the Ocean: I liked part of it, but there were some really nasty characters in it.
If you want to spend a few pleasurable hours, and you like clean romance, then this set is perfect. There are seven novels included, and each is very unique. When I started reading the one by Amy Harmon I thought I was reading an "about the author" section and was completely pulled in by her descriptions of Levan, Utah. Her writing style was excellent and so different from other "romance" novels. Another story was a romance that began with time travel and I thought it was another unique approach. Fun set of novels.
Downloaded this boxed set on my tablet. The seven books are "Masquerade" by Janette Rallison, "Running Barefoot" by Amy Harmon, "The Reluctant Bachelorette" by Rachael Anderson, "Pride and Precipitation" by Heather Horrocks, "My Own Mister Darcy" by Karey White, "She Owns the Knight" by Diane Darcy, and "Heart of the Ocean" by Heather B. Moore.
I really enjoyed each book. Good, totally clean romances written by LDS Authors. I will look to read other books by these authors in the future.
I am so grateful to Heather Moore for recommending this great set! It was a great deal, and the stories were very satisfying and uplifting. They were all great, including She Owns The Knight. I especially enjoyed that one. I'm a sucker for mideval stories.
Anyway, I heartily recommend Romance through the AGes for anyone who enjoys clean, well written romances.
Great stories. Great value set. I loved every single one of them. Some authors I was already familiar with and it introduced me to a couple of new ones. Amy harmon in particular is a new find and new favourite.
There were only two books that I didn't care for in this boxed set. I couldn't even finish the book She owns the Knight. Overall I liked the other five books, and even chose to re-read some that I had already read.
THIS IS A MUST READ!!! I got this boxed set on Kindle. I loved each and every story and will read them again and again. Each book was well written and very enjoyable. It was hard to put the Kindle down. Purchasing this was probably one of the best buys I've ever made.
When it came out out it was only a buck. at that price, it is SOOO worth it. (today it's $10, not so sure at that price!) I basically liked every other book, so for 3 fun clean reads I'm happy I read them!
Loved the boxed set. I'd like to see them made into Hallmark movies. I loved She Owns the Knight! The heart of the ocean was great too!!! Some of these, I would like to read a continuation or sequel. It introduced me to new authors. I'm always looking for clean romance and period books.
What a great collection of stories!!!! I loved all of them!!!! I think my two favorites are "Running Barefoot" & The Reluctant batcheorlette" I highly recommend this collection!
