Growing up in poverty, Sunny never expected anything good from life. However, even he did not anticipate being chosen by the Nightmare Spell and becoming one of the Awakened - an elite group of people gifted with supernatural powers. Transported into a ruined magical world, he found himself facing against terrible monsters - and other Awakened - in a deadly battle of survival. What's worse, the shadow powers he received happened to possess a small, but potentially fatal side effect...
"And, intoxicated by the taste of her... Sunny finally felt complete."
This book makes up for the ending of the last book. I was very uncomfortable with how volume 7 concluded. I was afraid the story was going in the wrong direction... But it was I who was wrong! We finally got the romance we deserved. I've never read a single romance novel / book before, but I thoroughly enjoyed this, partly because it was built up over 1700 chapters and partly because the characters feel so real, despite being in an unfathomable setting. Great writing.
PS: I never hated Cassie, but this "redemption arc" has been great. Best wingman of all time.

More world building and character progression! The writing is as engaging as always. A good respite after the action heavy last book and for whats ahead. I’m also really enjoying the POV changes. The women are written very well!
That's quite a change of pace, not that I'm complaining. But seriously though, it can be jarring. I think starting from around book 4, the author started to use more than one perspective, but he used it sparingly. Then, as the story progressed, we get more perspectives from some of the more important side characters that received less screen-time, but still, it wasn't very prevalent. This book, however, make heavily uses of it, and I'm here for it. But again, it can be jarring because this might be the first time we actually get to see Nephis's inner thought in depth.
