Author, lecturer and guide, John Anthony West delivered a seismic shock to archaeology in the early 1990's when he and Boston University geologist Robert Schoch revealed that the Great Sphinx of Giza, Egypt, showed evidence of rainfall erosion. Such erosion could only mean that the Sphinx was carved during or before the rains that marked the transition of northern Africa from the last Ice Age to the present interglacial epoch, a transition that occurred in the millennia from 10,000 to 5000 BC.
A great guide to symbolist Egypt. Quackademics and most "Egyptologists" would have you believe ancient peoples were barbaric and uncivilized.
They would also have you believe that civilization is only 6,000 years old. We are a species with amnesia, and there is so much more to discover about our past.
If you are looking for one good book on Egypt this would be it. It's a combination of traveler's guide - with tips on visiting various sites and areas and what to look for - and a brief guide to the civilization that was Ancient Egypt, including information on its history and religion. John Anthony West was involved in the controversy concerning the age of the Sphinx, but in this book he doesn't presume to know or give all the answers to some of the most puzzling mysteries that make up this ancient land; rather to his credit he presents the different arguments held by egyptologists and independent researchers alike. This is more a book you carry with you when visiting the different sites in Egypt, nonetheless I got a lot out of reading many of the chapters in it and refreshing my memory on many of the places I visited and hope to visit again.
I am using this as a placement or reference map. It is comprehensive and extremely useful, very detailed. Writer's... I would highly recommend to those of you writing about Egypt!
The Traveler's Key to Ancient Egypt: A Guide to the Sacred Places of Ancient Egypt by John Anthony West is an excellent classic by an alternative expert on Egypt and esotericism. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in exploring the deeper, spiritual dimensions of ancient Egypt. If you have the opportunity to find this book in a second-hand bookstore, it’s absolutely worth adding to your collection!
