Two years ago I made her my final girl. Perhaps I’m a little obsessed. The shrine covering my bedroom wall would certainly agree. I've even played out a few scenarios that end with her taking my knife in much more creative ways than usual.
Today is the day I finally take her life.
I’m ramping up the carnage and tying up loose ends in bloody bows. There’s another serial killer in Umbra Valley and the Massacre Maniac won’t be outdone. However, our local femme fatale isn’t waiting around for me to kill my obsession. Appears she hates me as much as I hate her.
"Meet at midnight", that's what the letter says. Cute.
Don't tango with the devil, sweetheart. You’re about to learn that he doesn't play fair…

"Don't tango with the devil, sweetheart. You're about to learn that he doesn't play fair…"
Two years ago Zoe's life changed. She met "The Massacre Maniac". And she has not been able to stop thinking about him since. He gave her inspiration. He helped create her. And now she will be the one to destroy him. No matter what she might feel.
"Everything changed for me two years ago. The taste of death breathed new life into me."
"The Femme Fatale" has been haunting Jack for the past 2 years. He's supposed to be the only serial killer in Umbra. And now he has to end her. It helps that she hates me as much as I hate her. So when she sends a note to "meet at midnight" he knows what he has to do. His final girl, his obsession, will have to wait because he has to finish this. And he cannot wait to end everything.
"She taunts me by being out there, alive and uncaught.""
I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
"Two years ago she possessed me, and has lived inside my head ever since."
Zoe has not been able to stop thinking about "The Massacre Maniac". He hasn't been able to get her off his mind. He wants her to be his final girl. But what happens when Jack realized something that will change everything he thought he knew?
"Every killer needs a final girl, doesn't he, baby?"
This book was IT!!!! Thank the Halloween Gods and Lux Oleander for this masterpiece honestly because it was everything. If this is a gift to the Halloween gods I will happily be a sacrifice.
"He's like a boogeyman I can't help being scared of in the dark of night."
First we have Jack who is legit INSANE but we love that for us. I mean who wanted a masked psycho killer and didn't get any??? Because Jack is that serial killer. Insane and loving it. And he is OBSESSED and we love that too. He wants Zoe as his final girl and he will make sure that she will be.
"I'm never denying myself Zoe ever again. She's more perfect than memory allowed me to know."
Zoe is legit badass. I would let her run me over at the amusement park. It's a vibe. She gave me hardcore Harley Quinn vibes and I was here for it!! Badass Female Serial Killer? I support Woman's rights but most importantly I support women's wrongs. 💅💅
"Come on Maniac, come and fucking get me."
This playlist is giving Halloween, Creepy, Sexy and we love to see it:
“I’ll massacre this entire crumbling city one person at a time if I have to. You’re mine, Zoe. Only mine. I won’t have anyone else ripping you from my hands. I won’t have anyone else stealing your last breath from me.”
“I’m yours?”
“Until the last star burns out. I’ll never let you go.”
: ̗̀➛Pre-Review: I was intrigued and I'm reading this for Dovy🕊️ and I promise after this I'm solely focusing on contemporary romances and Fantasy 😭
A fun, dark, slasher romance between two rival serial killers.
It was exactly what I wanted it to be. It was unhinged and kind of funny. And also a mindless, quick, and easy read. Only about 200 pages. It gave my brain a chance to relax after reading so many 450 page books.
I also loved the nod to The Nightmare Before a Christmas by having Jack, the MMC, wear a skeleton mask and skeleton face paint.
The creepy, abandoned carnival atmosphere was also a cool element. The carnival felt like a character itself.
I’d recommend if you’re into goofy, but dark, romance books.
This baby was pretty good. I enjoyed how these two serial killers really did do some damage to one another, lol.
Jack met Zoe for the first time, and well, he picked her up to be his finale girl, leaving her alive. Little did he know Zoe had plans of her own and her first kill that night. Now, years later, both are obessed over one another even with how much time passed.. but for different reasons. Jack is obessed because she's his finale girl and hates his rival killer. Zoe is his rival killer and finds out he hates her, which turns her love to hate. 🤣🤣🤣 Talk about miscommunication, lol.
But when Jack finds out who his little killer really is, he's changed. He's going to make her his and show her they can kill together ❤️. It has a lot of banter and back and forth between the two. We also get a sneak of a new story near the end.
Safety squad during the Seperation Zoe said she fked her victims but after awhile she didn't enjoy it. It was told never shown
No ow/om drama, no cheating (when together),Drama, no virgins (Zoe did fuck her victims Jack didnt)

Meet at Midnight by Lux Oleander 🎪💀🎢 I loved this book! A dark slasher romance about two serial unalivers (the MMC and FMC) that has an obsessive stalker masked MMC and a crazy serial unaliver FMC.
This is a dark romance so check the triggers but this was way more fun and less traumatic than a lot of dark romances. I loved both characters in this and the dual pov they have in this book. I look forward to reading more from @lux_oleander after this! Definitely recommend. I gave this 5/5⭐️ and 3/5🌶️ there are detailed spicy scenes but it has way more plot than smut.
⋆.˚🦋༘⋆ Rival serial killers gunning for each other? Not only that though but she's also his final girl he left alive two years ago. Not knowing she is the one who is killing people in his town as well, he begins to hate her... but when he finds out Zoe, his obsession and final girl, is also the femme fatale the news station has been talking about, things get more complicated for these two.
I really really like this one! It was super entertaining and fun ngl. Meet at Midnight is a dark romance about two serial killers so be cautious about it. It's very gory, intense, bloody as heck, violent and so much more. Still, I definitely enjoyed it a lot... I mean I read half of it in a few hours and I couldn't stop reading about Zoe and Jack! Their story was interesting and intriguing, I especially adore the part where Zoe is a little bit insane and also loves a good killing, something Jack never thought possible. So, when he finds out she is also a serial killer, his surprise is so good to see and I love that he wants her so bad.
Even though the author doesn't go into their past very deeply, you kinda get a sense of it throughout the book with little details here and there. It's clear they both have no one in their lives and it has been like that for many years. You always love reading characters that find someone who can be there for them, that they can lean on, and you can see this in this book. Zoe and Jack realize that they are no longer alone in this world and with their... intense activities... they can be a team from now on.
My only wish is for them to have had maybe another or two scenes more after that final chapter. The epilogue was hilarious but it makes me want to have more of them. We don't really get them as a couple during the whole story so I wanted to see their life after they realize they can be together, you know? I don't know if there are some bonus scenes or chapters out there maybe the author released after publication? If so, omg do let me know!
I'm sorry but I do love when he's not the only one who's obsessed and a little bit crazy about the girl but she's also like that too, about him. They constantly stabbed each other and every time I screamed lmao!!! I loved their back-and-forth, it was so entertaining and I'm glad we had both POVs so we could see inside their heads.
Highly recommend checking out the trigger warnings before starting the book!
This one definitely had me questioning my morals lol dark, twisted, hot, and kind of funny at times. Minus one point for the brain/wound fingering... didn't like that lol
This was a perfect little slasher romance with healthy doses of chaotic insanity. I laughed out loud numerous times at the characters' individual quirks, as well as their interactions that had ended in "fails".
Zoe (FMC),was the gothic goddess I miss seeing in books. Not saying that there's any one particular color of hair, or any attribute for that matter, that makes a character loved over another. But, I was glad to have a gothic fmc with dark locks. Everything about her just oozed this one-of-a-kind existence. I loved her so very much.
Jack (MMC), was a sexy mashup of Michael Myers & Jason. He was this larger than life psychopath that won me over quite quickly.
This was probably the one I was looking forward to reading for Halloween. A slasher vs slasher, going back to the final girl classics. The blurb makes the story sound more mysteries, more secret identity type thing. It really wasn't. From the get go, Jack is who he is and Zoe is the same after the opening chapter. One likes guns, and one likes knives. I learnt a new term reading this one, Piquerism. Jack gets off making holes with his knife.
Its the usual thing with the blurred lines, knife handle penetration, seeming blade penetration (wtf?) but not really, stabbing, a whole lot of murder and a really strange rollercoaster scene. I'm curious how long they expect to stay alive/uncaught after their last stunt.
I am curious about Anthony. After reading this one I may give Cute but Psycho another go. I need to start varying what I read, otherwise they start to feel the same. It was alright but it males me want to give Butcher & Blackbird a higher rating. Will defo be reading the next one though. 3.5 stars.

“This is bad. I want Jack. He’s dangerous and thrilling. He’s madness and chaos.”
...Jack also underestimates Zoe and I love that for her, so much depth to them both. If you love slasher romances, this one was KILLER! I giggled, I gasped and I cried, an absolute great read.
Thank you Lux Oleander for this ARC, I had the best time. <3
I loved this book, so much fun and with insane characters, spicy chemistry and a heroine just as mad as the hero. Loved the concept and plot just as well as the romance. A perfect slasher romance and I definitely has to read more of these kinds.
Brutal masked slasher meets calculating femme fatale in Meet At Midnight, a deliciously dark and bloody romance from author Lux Oleander. Admitting this was one of my most anticipated reads would be the understatement of the year— as soon as I saw this baby revealed, I knew I needed to get my hands on it. And let me tell you, Lux absolutely killed it. All the puns intended.
This story starts off with a bang as a group of friends is decimated by the infamous Massacre Maniac at an abandoned theme park. Upon cornering the last of his victims, he can’t find it in himself to take her life, dubbing her his final girl. His actions that night cause some pretty intense ripples, leaving him obsessed and her craving more. And so another monster is born.
Jack and Zoe…what can I say other than I am completely in love with them both. A match made in hell, this duo is everything I could’ve asked for. Rivals unbeknownst to each other, both off-their-rockers delusional with a desire to inflict maximum damage in imaginative ways, you can’t help but fall for these two psychopaths.
Jack, while heartless, cherishes his final girl, but wants to use her to secure his place as best killer in Umbra Valley. Zoe just wants to impress her maker, and give herself to him in all the ways he needs to satisfy his stabby cravings. What ensues when they come together is just wicked and horrifically steamy…it’s glorious.
Umbra Valley is a living beast in itself as well. Existing in a state of total decay with abandoned parks, buildings and homes, this once thriving town is now home to all sorts of nefarious characters. Atmospheric in the best ways, this town set the tone for the whole story, all while immersing readers in the rot and viscera.
Also, I LOVED the Frankie references that were initially introduced in Frankie’s Funhouse by Beatrix Hollow (Lux’s alter ego). You should check this out, as it may answer some lingering questions that may arise.
I couldn’t be happier with this book, it’s everything I was expecting and so much more. What Lux delivered between these covers was as perfect as a story could possibly be, and leaves so much room to return in the future. All you dark/slasher romance fans out there, you MUST read this…you won’t regret it.
If you are vanilla. Close this review and walk away.
Zoe came face to face with the Massacre Maniac two years ago. Now she is his final girl.
Jack is annoyed. He is the Massacre Maniac but some new serial killer is in town and taking his spot light.
This is a 5⭐️ for me. I love a good dark romance with two completely unhinged characters.
I did not know how these two were going to end either a HEA or killing each other. I was on my toes the whole entire time and it wasn’t because of the plot. This spice in this book is top notch spice.
This book is so addicting. I can’t wait to see the rest of the series.

This was a little strange and not the serial killers falling in love part. At times it felt like it was urban contemporary like then it seemed to start leaning more paranormal, it’s not a consistent back and forth but enough to be odd. Then there wasn’t any background on Jack, there is plenty to be inferred but mostly it’s just open ended. Things happen with no explanation as to how they’re possible. The communication between the mains is sort of choppy and ineffective. The reader knows how they feel but I didn’t like how they finally discussed them. There were also times where I had trouble staying engaged with the story. The love is twisted and obsessive and dark, and I enjoyed the inner monologues, especially from Jack but the ending really throws things off for me. Also the ending from Anthony’s pov seems to hint at the start of another story but end’s really abruptly. So basically I liked the beginning, pushed through the middle, and didn’t enjoy the end.
The thing that stood out to me the most in this book was the absolute perfection that was the description of Frankie’s Fun World. It sets the tone for the book brilliantly, immediately immersing you into the dark decaying and abandoned town of Umbra Valley.
The story is a chaotic back and forth battle to see who is the better serial killer. It’s amusing, dark, disturbing and perfectly fitting for the spooky season. Jack and Zoe are the perfect match and the way each of them come to that realisation is psychotic and oddly sweet. The spice and Jack’s dirty mouth will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about yourself. The words “what a good f✨king girl” should not be so hot in reference to someone being strangled to death…
This was crazy… two serial unalivers falling in love under the craziest of conditions is not at all what I expected but it was as intriguing as ever. I was enveloped in the story and the MCs journey… I wasn’t sure how it would end up and what consequences if any would be had for the two but I was very excited for it all!
4.75 stars! I would have rated it 5 if it had actually been a bit longer...I didn't want the freak show to end!
I absolutely loved this book! It is short and twisted but the pace was perfect. Our two main characters are serial killers that inevitably fall for each other. Their interactions are VERY twisted and dark. Their kinks are VERY unique and honestly, the way the author described some of those scenes had even my interest piqued. Violence and blood are two themes that turn these sickos on.
I really enjoyed how there was actual plot to this story and not just smut. Our killers had intention to destroy one another and let's just say it doesn't go as planned for either one. Our MMC was a massive, sexy beast obsessed with his "final girl" and our FMC was not this timid, dull girl afraid of her own shadow. They truly were perfect for each other.
If you want a quick, dark, fun, twisted, violent read this is your book!
Meet Me at Midnight started off getting right into the story, but I found it hard to keep interest in it. The ending is also very abrupt and leaves room so that maybe the story can continue...?
If you were (are) as obsessed with the Scream movies as I was, this will speak to your little 90’s heart.
I loved the gritty dark world of Umbra Valley. The setting was set masterfully. The suspense thick and the tension made my heart palpitate. I loved every single word and couldn’t wait to see what happened. Lux toys with our hearts the whole ride!
They really are a cute couple, actually. Minus all the murder, if that sort of thing bothers you. ARC Review~
This book is insane and I mean that in the best way possible!
Rival serial killers with a final girl twist - Jack doesn’t realise the two most important women in his life are one in the same. This is fast paced, action packed, steamy, and bloody. Jack and Zoe can’t help but be drawn to each other but they’re both confident killers so it was never going to be easy. Torn between fighting and fucking they do a bit of both all while dodging the cops and keeping up their kill count.
The ending was SHOCKING! And Jack fully personified the kind of nearly unstoppable serial killer found in the movies 😍😈 The set up for the rest of the series has me desperate for more! A fantastic debut from Lux 🖤
How does one court a serial killer? I really thought the murder video was a slam dunk. Show her I care by imagining her as one of my victims.
Meet at Midnight at its core is about two serial killers falling in love with each other and seeing how it impacts both of them individually. The story takes place at Umbra Valley and begins at the amusement Park where Jack and Zoe first meet when he arrives and massacres her friends leaving her as his final girl and this starts their whole relationship. You have Jack the 'The Massacre Maniac' serial killer who uses knifes to end his victims and Zoe 'The Lovers Murderer' who was his final girl but is now a serial killer who uses guns to end hers. For both of them it was obsession at first sight but the story shows how they slowly began to care for each other which actually made then a cute couple and it was sweet seeing Jack grow to care and love her in his own way while she already cared for him from the beginning after their inital meeting.
As i said, it is a story about how their relationship came to be and what a relationship it is. The push and pull between each other is thrilling to read and the way that they played Cat and Mouse with each other where as a reader you are always trying to work out who was the cat in the situation and who was the mouse which kept me on my toes throughout wanting me to read more to see where it would go. The push and pull between them lead to their chemistry being off the charts, something that gives me a Joker and Harley Quinn vibe except in this story they are more equals, so if you are looking for that vibe but done much more better you should definitely give Meet At Midnight a read.
I also really loved and appreciated the connection this story has to Frankie Funhouse, a short story featured in the Creepy Court anthology. You do not need to read Frankie Funhouse to understand and appreciate this story but for those that have read it, seeing the references in the story was a nice touch and I'm looking forward to reading more set within the universe.

For the readers who read Hunting Adeline and wished she would fight back twice as dirty, this book is for you. 5 ⭐️. Jack if you're out there: Please kill me, you’re just so hot I want the fucking privilege. 'Ah shit, she really wants to kill me now. I’d apologize for stabbing her, but that might imply it isn’t happening again. My little teddy bear (not really) of a serial killer, you're my new hottest fantasy.
Zoe is a damned icon. 'Causing me pain is one thing—one I’m not opposed to. But I have to stand my ground on murder. Maybe I’m picky, but I prefer being alive. My bad.' LIKE QUEEN??? you must have dropped your crown lemme get on my knees to get it for youuu!!! 'She didn’t respond how I expected. I expected fear and terror after locking her up. I expected begging and pleading. Not someone promising to finger fuck my skull while spitting in my face.' AGAIN??? FUCKING ICON. QUEEN.
With 2 clever, sneaky, and gruesome as shit main characters, this wasn't just the most insane rollercoaster ride I've ever been on, but also the yuckyest. I'm absolutely insanely obsessed and upset that I left this on my kindle shelf that long, THIS WAS AMAZING. My favourite moment that says more then I ever could in a review:
'“We need rules,” I say. His eyes drift away from my mouth. “Sounds annoying.” “No stabbing me,” I say, and Jack makes a choking sound of despair. “Okay,” he wheezes. “You can still stab others plenty.” My fingers twist a lock of his dark hair."
If you enjoy slasher romance, stalking, rough (and I mean it) play, 2 hot as hell main characters, and a creepy undertone, THIS IS FOR YOUUU!!!
Meet at Midnight is for all the final girlies who didn’t just think “I could survive better than them” or “I could fix him,” but “I would join him.”
Under her other pen name, Lux Oleander is the queen of making her readers Scaroused. Meet at Midnight embraces that level of unhinged that we have come to expect and love and increased it, more than you could anticipate. Content warnings should not be taken lightly, and only the bravest, most dedicated (or perhaps foolish) final girls should move forward into the depravity.
Let’s be real, you’re not here for the plot. You’re here for that thrill, the adrenaline of “will she survive this time” and the reward in the form of some of the hottest, pitch black romance spice you will ever scan your eyeballs over. I’m in love with the set up of this world, and if you haven’t checked it out you need to pick up Frankie’s Funhouse in the Creepy Court anthology which is in this same town. You know you saw another animated game/movie and looked at him a little different.
Everything my Ghostface loving, dark twisted heart loves was fulfilled tenfold. If you’ve ever fantasized about surviving and getting a second chance with the man in the mask, this is for you.
I imagine opening my mouth and asking him to kill me. Please kill me, Jack. You're just so hot I want the fucking privilege.

Where has this book been my entire life?! Two rival serial killers falling in love? Count me in! I completely lost my mind reading this, it was like nothing I'd read before and I was entrapped and could not escape. I'll admit, my morals are essentially non-existent because I decided I want my own Jack, and I enjoyed the events in this book to no avail. The twist at the end completely broke me and I thought I wasn't going to recover from it, and then the author threw another twist and I was fine again! I honestly cannot stop thinking about this book, it made me feel stuff that had me questioning my sanity, and I loved it so much!
