Collier's Creek #2

Mandatory Repairs

Rate this book
He's never been to the Cowboy State before, but he's already made an enemy. Max Stone is a glass-is-always-full kind of guy and he strongly believes in doing the right thing.
In this case, doing the right thing means traveling to Collier's Creek, Wyoming to meet the half-sister he’s never known and help save her family ranch.

He feels slightly aimless after selling his software company and retiring. He’s only forty-two after all, and after a lifetime of working hard, there's a bucket list of things he’d like to check off. One of them is meeting someone who likes him for who he is, not his bank account. He has a good feeling about Collier's Creek--he’s always had a secret cowboy fantasy.

Nash Vigil isn’t rolling out the welcome mat for Max Stone. Stone wants something, and Nash is going to figure out what it is. Then he’s going to make sure he doesn’t get it. No doubt Max is just like his cheating, lying father.

After another day fighting a losing battle at the ranch, Nash ends up helping a sexy newcomer who didn't realize that alcohol and high altitude don’t mix. Not when you’re a newbie. And damn that had been hard to walk away from. As much as he’d wanted to accept the invitation for a hot night in the sheets, he’d tucked the man in and left.

Just Nash’s luck, he's the one man Nash cannot be attracted to. Just Max's luck, someone has him in their sights and he may need a sexy cowboy to ride to his rescue. Six couples, six low-angst romances, six reasons to fall in love…

Mandatory Repairs is the second book in the multi-author Collier's Creek series. Each book is stand-alone, but if you enjoy swoon-worthy romance set in a small town, then stay a while. You’ll be sure to fall in love with the men of Collier’s Creek.

Mandatory Repairs is the second book in the Collier’s Creek series. This is a six book multi author series and this book is by Elle Keaton. I loved the first book, Best Kind of Awkward by Becca Seymour and have had this on my Kindle for quite awhile waiting for me to get to it. I really enjoyed it and was so surprised that not only was it sexy and sweet and even humorous, it was really suspenseful! I couldn’t put it down. This is my first book by Elle.

Nash Vigil has lived and worked on the Twisted Pine Ranch in Collier’s Creek, Wyoming since he was a kid. He is more or less the ranch manager but the owner is more like his family. I’m not sure of his exact age but I think he might be in his low thirties?

Max Stone is forty two years old. Max made his millions in technology in California. After selling his company, he’s trying to figure out what he wants to do next. He and his twin brother, Xavier, have recently discovered they have a half sister they never even knew about in Wyoming. Xavier is completely against it but Max is determined to travel to Collier’s Creek and meet his sister.

“Was it possible to fall in love at first sight with a landscape?”

Max and Nash have a bit of a meet cute. The only problem is, after a few drinks, Max doesn’t remember it the next day. So the next time they meet, things don’t go well!! Max has always been s city boy. His plan is just to stay long enough to get to know his new sister, then head to Washington to be nearer his brother. But the beauty of Twisted Pine takes his breath away. And, there is always the sexy cowboy he just can’t seem to stop thinking about.

Max and Nash become close quickly, enjoying the time they have together not knowing if or when their time will come to an end. But then danger comes to Collier’s Creek and to Twisted Pine Ranch. Are they after Max, or could it be Nash or one of the other hands on the ranch? Will Max even live long enough to figure out what this could be with Nash?

I really did love this book. I loved the connection between Nash and Max. My only complaint is that a few of the questions are answered but the majority of whatever is going on causing the danger is left unanswered. Perhaps it will show up in the other books in the series? I really hope so. I do plan to continue the series. The next book will be Sheriff of the Creek by Sue Brown who is another new to me author. I can’t wait to read it. One other side note is that Max’s twin brother, Xavier, also has a book. It’s book one in the Reclaimed Hearts series, Adverse Conditions. It sounds really good!

Mandatory Repairs is the second book in the multi-author Collier's Creek series. Each book is stand-alone, and has a small town setting.

This was book was fast paced and easy to read. I enjoyed getting to know Nash and Max throughout their journey. These two had some insta-love going on, even if once Nash learned his true identity, tried to fight it. I really enjoyed the suspense revolving around Max and his half sister Robin. This really gave the book some extra depth.

I received this ARC from Gay Romance Reviews for my honest opinion.

Not really sure what it was about this book in general, but I didn't like it from the start. I don't think I've read anything from this author before, and I can't say I want to read anything else either. The whole book just felt off to me, I can't really put my finger on what exactly it was, but it was my stubbornness that kept me reading.

It somehow managed to make the town feel like a completely different place to the depiction of it in the first book, which was jarring considering it's supposed to be the same place. It's also only book two and I'm already getting frustrated at the use of the same names for completely different characters in a connected series. I've already had to try and figure out who's being referred to three times, which I don't think is a good sign for a collaborative effort.

The plot was also really strange and didn't have any real resolution. There was a theory of maybe what was going on, which was frustrating because if you're going to have a crime mystery alongside the romance, I want the conclusion of that plot line too, not just how the romance turns out! It also starts out that the future of the ranch is in peril, yet the entire resolution is summed up in two sentences in the epilogue. I'm never a fan of using an epilogue to tie up loose ends. For me an epilogue should be looking back on the story from a point in the future once everything has been resolved, or looking forwards to future events, otherwise it's just another chapter in the book so call it that. Why make such a fuss about the ranch and saving it, and then just forget about it until it pops up in the epilogue like an afterthought? It would have made more sense to focus on how to save the ranch and how the main characters get together, rather than adding in the weird crime that dominated so much of the book and didn't even get solved.

I also didn't believe these guys even liked each other, let alone loved each other. On page there was a lot of animosity until suddenly there wasn't. It seems like all of the time they spent getting to know each other and building a relationship was actually off page, which is something I don't like because you lose any emotional investment in the characters and their relationships.

So overall the crime element went unsolved and the romance was pretty much all off page. I'm not entirely sure this even fits the genre of either a romance or a crime mystery, which just gave me a headache!

This is the first time I've read a book by this author (I'm trying to find some more contemporary m/m romance authors to read)- and maybe, being a book in a shared series, it wasn't the best place to start, but it certainly hasn't given me any enthusiasm for reading another one.

I did know Mandatory Repairs was the second book in a series, and it's mostly fine as a standalone EXCEPT that the author has set up a mystery that isn't solved by the end! There's no warning in the blurb for a cliffhanger or that the mystery is ongoing, and I'm not sure I'd have picked the book up had I known that.

Otherwise, it's pretty average. The plot had potential, but isn't fully developed and the romance is insta; Nash, a ranch manager, meets a hot guy one night in a bar, but the guy is wasted, so Nash is the perfect gentleman and sees him safely to a hotel. The next day, he finds out Drunk Guy is actually Max Stone, half-brother of the ranch owner, and for reasons that were non-existent, decided he hated him. Then, Nash decides they might as well bang and that Max isn't a bad guy after all, just because he's made a lot of money in Silicon Valley. Everything happens too quickly with random plotty things thrown in at random - there's a bit of suspense near the end which works quite well - and the romance happens way too fast. Not for me.

There was so much good material that could have been developed and taken this story from 'okay' to incredible - but it seemed to be ignored.
Instead, we ended up with a mediocre instant love story. The characters are partially developed and are, frankly, boring. The plot has a few moments, but for the most part, it feels like this whole other story was happening just out of the reader's reach and this just happened to be an aside that got tossed in.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. The MCs were great in their roles and the setting was beautiful.
Max and Nash, the MCs meet one night at the local bar of Collier's Creek, a small town in Wyoming. Max has left everything behind, selling his business and house, to meet his half-sister. Nash works at the ranch of Max's half sister. They don't know who the other is when they first meet, when eventually they do they can't help the attraction they feel towards the other man.
I loved both MCs, but I especially liked Max. He was older than Nash, but he seemed the most vulnerable. He had such a good heart and was actually feeling quite lost, then Nash was so self-confident and he just wanted to protect the ranch because it was his life. Nash tried to hate Max, but it was impossible, the pull he felt towards the older guy was undeniable.
The book wasn't long and I liked that they got together rather fast, so I could enjoy them becoming a couple. Then there was a mystery to be resolved that I didn't expect and that got me hooked even more on the story.
I loved the story, the MCs and also the secondary characters. The suspense was interesting, the ranch was perfectly described and the life of a little town accurately depicted. This was a great read and I'd love to read about the stories of the other characters that appear in this book.

This book was a beautiful addition to the Collier's Creek series and I enjoyed it so much. This book is about Nash & Max with a grumpy x sunshine trope, which is my favourite trope and the added suspense in this book (not a lot just a little murder) kept me intrigued by this story.

Nash is a cowboy who works and stays at the Twisted Pine Ranch and Max is the half-brother of Robin (who owns the ranch, Nash's cousin). Their chemistry was amazing from the start even when they didn't know each other, I liked how Nash felt protectiveness over a stranger (Max) and also wanted to claim him. Once they started hooking up, I liked how we got to see other sides of them and also their banter was amazing.

The plot in the story revolves around some murder scenes and the suspense (not a lot of it but it kept me intrigued), I loved how we got to see how much the characters cared about each other, a little glimpse of other characters was also beautifully written. I loved Nash & Max so much hoping to see them in other books as a cameo appearance.

We get to meet some characters in this book who will have their own story in the upcoming books, I am mainly looking forward to Sheriff's story as he is next and I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have. Also, check out this series if you are looking forward to some small-town romance recs because this series is quite refreshing and amazing as well.

I really enjoyed this engaging low angst small town romance. Max comes to Collier’s Creek to meet his half sister who owns a ranch. Nash is a snarky and grumpy cowboy who believes Max has ulterior motives for coming onto the ranch. These two likeable characters are the ying to the others yang and there’s undeniable chemistry between them which turns heated once they give in to their mutual attraction. The plot line involving the actions of Max and his sister’s dead beat father held my interest and whilst it provided a bit of angst for Max and Nash, it is perfectly balanced with the romance element of the story. Their HEA made me smile and I look forward to more in this multi author series.

Uhhh… okay?

I was under the impression that these were interconnected standalones, but the loose plot of this book ended on a cliffhanger.

And a lot of detail and information wasn’t there. I’m not entirely sure *why* it wasn’t there, because there were plenty of places for it, but I guess a choice was made. It was definitely a ~choice~.

The need for editing was mighty, but I handled that way better than feeling like I was getting 1/3 of the story. And sometimes the cuts between scenes weren’t denoted, and it took me going back and making sure I hadn’t turned too many pages to understand that, no, I hadn’t missed anything, because there wasn’t anything to miss.

Again, it was for sure a choice. I’m just not sure it was necessarily a good choice.

3/5. I didn’t connect with this installment at all, nor could I really feel the connection all that well between the MCs. So much was left out that things just kind of smushed together and there’s the book. And now I’m sitting here wondering how these books are meant to be standalones if the plot continues into the next book to find a resolution/conclusion, and if it doesn’t, what was the point of leaving it open ended? I’m not a mind reader, and there wasn’t even enough to lead me to read between the lines. I didn’t even get many fluffy moments😭☹️

This delightful tale is part of a new Collier's Creek, multi-author series and can be read as a standalone. This specific book relates loosely to Adverse Conditions as Max, one of the MCs is the twin brother of Xavier from that series.

Max has sold up his company and decides (against his brother's advice) to go and find the half sister their deadbeat father left behind before he started Max and Xavier's family. His sister, Robin, owns a struggling farm in Wyoming and Nash Vigil is a friend and employee of the farm, trying hard to keep it going. And he does NOT want Max coming along and interfering in their business.

Sparks fly between the two after a near miss ONS on Max's first night but the two grow close and despite Nash's hesitation, they eventually fall into be together. Repeatedly. There is a mystery afoot and the book is relatively fast-paced. As with all books Elle Keaton, this was a great read and I'm looking forward to trying some of the rest of the series.

Story lacked substamce

1/3 of the book consisted of the two main characters carrying on like a couple of high school girls wondering "does he like me, or not?", 1/3 of the story was sex scenes between the two main characters ( yes, I guess they do like each other!), and the other 1/3 was a weak storyline about a mistaken identity, multiple murders, with no real resolution as to why there were murders. The characters lacked substance and seemingly didn't really give a hoot about the conflict surrounding them. And, neither did I.

I enjoyed the beginning of this book, even though the writing was a bit choppy in places. I liked the characters and where I thought the story was going. Then there was a sudden suspense aspect with a fairly violent scene that I wasn't expecting and felt wasn't necessary. It took me out of the main romance, and I felt a big disconnect from then on out. Overall, it was good.

I love ranch based stories, because they just have a romantic feel and this story was on the romantic side, I particularly loved reading about the scenery of Wyoming. We watch Max and Nash fall in love, which does happen quickly. There is a sinister mystery to the story which takes over the narrative. I liked the characters but wasn't overly convinced about them falling in love so quickly; this would have been more believable if the intimate scenes were steamier. There are lots of secondary characters who hopefully will get stories. The epilogue provided the start of a HEA and tied the loose ends up. This is a good story and I have rounded up from 3.5 stars. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you to Neon Rainbow and Elle Keaton for my eARC in exchange for my honest review. Mandatory Repairs is the 2nd book set in Collier Creek. Written with Dual POV & an epilogue my favourite style for this genre.

We have insta last until Nash finds out who Max... this book contains crime, steam and a HEA. Mandatory Repairs left me wanting more.

I will definitely read more books by Elle Keaton. Review to follow

"Mandatory Repairs" is a great addition to the Collier's Creek series. Nash and Max's grumpy x sunshine dynamic hooked me, and the suspense with a sprinkle of murder added to the intrigue. Their chemistry was off the charts, and the banter was a highlight. The plot, with its murder mystery, showcased the characters' caring nature beautifully.

This small-town romance series is a must-read, and "Mandatory Repairs" is a gem. Get ready to be charmed by the men of Collier's Creek!

It’s OK

The storyline is thin, with minimal development. There are some decent plot elements which, if developed, would create a rich storyline but unfortunately that did not happen. Instead, we have a quick insta-luv style meet-and-greet, with plot elements inserted at random points to move the story along. Overall, this book is less than expected, less than it could have been.

Max and Nash ❤️

4 Stars ⭐️

After reading the first chapter of this book, I knew it was going to be good and I wasn't wrong. I mean, a city guy meets gruff cowboy with an untrusting scowl sign me up. I adored this relationship development. It had such a sweet yet sexy vibe, throw in a mystery and murder that led these men to their sweet HEA.....SWOON ❤️. I am loving this multi author series Collier's Creek, I cannot wait for more. I recommend this read.

Well the characters were likeable enough. The plot however had some harsh transitions - so confusing that I had to reread portions to figure out what had happened. Also there was some interesting twists to the plot but it seemed that it was wrapped up without really explaining what had happened. The plot was left unfinished in my mind and will remain that way.

Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is the second book in the Collier's Creek series, but it can be read as a stand alone. Nash pops up in book one, Best Kind of Awkward, but I don't think Colton nor Will pop up here (from that book)

Nash meets Max after a really bad day, but Max is drunk and Nash, ever the gentleman, sees him safe. When they meet again, though, Max doesn't remember Nash but Nash? Oh he knows who Max is: the older brother of the ranch owner where Nash lives. Their dad is a nasty piece of work and Nash tars Max with the same brush. Fate, though, will get what she wants, and she wants Max and Nash together.

What I'm really REALLY loving about these books, and this is only book 2, with 3, 4 and 5 lined up, is the super SUPER low angst between the couples. I mean there is drama and danger here, but it revolves around Max' father more than anything, NOT between Max and Nash. And right now, I need that low angst, I really do, like NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED it.

And I loved this, I really did. I loved that Nash, once he knew who Max was, tried, bless him, he TRIED to hate him, like he hated Max' dad. But Max has a way about him, and gets under Nash's skin. Max getting shot at made him realise that maybe, just maybe, he didn't hate Max, he just hated his dad.

Max knew arriving in town might ruffle some feathers, but his intentions are all good. He just wants to get to know his older sister, the one he just learned about. And maybe help her out, in the background, now he really doesn't have a great deal on his plate. Selling his business has left him very well off, and he won't ever be able to spend it all. So, getting to know his sister and helping her, is all he is in town for and then he'll be gone. Until someone tries to kill him and he realises just how much the grumpy cowboy that is Nash has gotten into his heart.

In my review for Best Kind of Awkward, I said the epilogue held some information that I wish I had gotten to be privvy to. I get it here. I get the trip to the beach for the first time for Nash and what happens there is the perfect round up for this book!

Up next, the sheriff of Collier's Creek. We get a little bit of a clue; well, really, it's more of a slap upside the head clue, but JD is a bit oblivious; of Jd's love interest here. Reading the blurb makes me curious how they are gonna work it all out, while keeping the angst low. I don't care, I'm a-reading it!

This appears to be only the second book of Keaton's I've read. I need more!

Again, 5 full and shiny stars.

Mandatory Repairs by Elle Keaton is the 6th book in the Collier’s Creek series by various authors. Nash Vigil is one of the managers on the Twisted Pine Ranch just outside of Collier’s Creek, Wyoming. The ranch is owned by his cousin, Robin, who he has been with since he was in his teens. It is struggling to stay afloat because of a loan but they are trying to keep things going. Nash goes into town to get a beer and to get away from his problems when he sits next to Max Stone, who he doesn’t know and who has gotten drunk from too many beers and the high altitude. So he takes him to a hotel in town to sleep it off. Max is a man on a mission because his deadbeat dad is also Robin’s father, which they just found out about and he wanted to meet her. He is also a millionaire after he sold his software company and after researching what he could about Robin and the ranch thinks he may want to help them out. She greets him with open arms but Nash is not so welcoming as he thinks, knowing her family, that Max wants something from her. As time goes on he finds out differently and they become friends and then more. But Craig Stone, Max’s and Robin’s father is in trouble and that trouble comes back to plague them and the ranch. There is a shooting and a death and when the town sheriff and deputies get involved they find out more about what Craig has been up to. And that leads to something awful for Max and Nash does everything in his power to help him. After they get back to each other they declare their love and move on with their lives, more happy then they’ve ever been. I really enjoyed this story. The characters arere great with Nash being a true cowboy who loves the ranch and wants to save it and Max who doesn’t know anything about ranches or riding horses but is willing to jump in with both feet. They are both sincere and grateful to have each other. Robin is helpful as are the sheriff and his deputies and Xavier, Max’s twin brother, also plays an important part in the story. Once Nash and Max realize their feelings their love scenes are hot. And there is a lot of suspense and angst when Max gets in trouble. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like cowboy and ranch stories that include some interesting situations as well as some suspense that leads to an HEA. It does not disappoint.

What a great story! I loved the setting with all the majestic beauty of wide open spaces for cattle ranching in Wyoming. And I loved the setup: hookup gone wrong due to too much alcohol; then oops, this is the half-brother of my boss; love/hate based on who you are; and then discovery that the sexy silver fox is a really nice guy and the cranky foreman is just what he needs. Mandatory Repairs has great characters, both main and secondary, including the ranch hands and the few gay men we meet around town.

Max is the sexy silver fox who has come to town to meet his half-sister for the first time and hopefully help her out of financial difficulties with her ranch. He’s retired from his software company and though only in his early forties he’s made enough from the sale of the company to last a lifetime. He’s not a geek, or a stuck-up corporate type, just an all-around good guy with a heart of gold. Nash is the foreman of the ranch Max’s sister owns, also gay, also good-looking, but a tough nut to crack when it comes to trust. When the two initially meet at a bar, they never get to introductions before Max has too much to drink to complete their planned hookup. This sets the stage for animosity and resentment on Nash’s part when he learns the sexy guy is his boss’s brother.

Thankfully, the author keeps the story fast-paced and the men don’t stay enemies for too long, i.e., no wallowing in angst. They do build up sexual tension while Max is stranded at the ranch during a snowstorm, but Nash is still being protective of his boss and wants no part of Max. Eventually Nash apologizes for his rude behavior, and the two get together for a more intimate bedtime story, so to speak.

There’s also drama from a murder that occurs out on the ranch’s range and then from a kidnapping due to identity confusion. Nash realizes just how much he cares about Max when Max suddenly disappears. I enjoyed the fast pace and tension-filled moments told from both POVs. And, of course, I loved their sweet reunion and the HEA epilogue.

I’m looking forward to the books from the other authors in this Collier’s Creek setting.

What a great follow up to “Best Kind of Awkward” in the “Collier’s Creek” series. This story was a thriller which I expected from Elle Keaton. I have loved her thriller stories! This one did not disappoint me at all! It was a page turner because I had to find out who and why!!! That’s for you to pick up the book and read to find out what!!!!! Definitely 5 stars reading from me!

The story focuses on Max Stone, who had discovered he had an older half-sister. She ran a ranch in Collier’s Creek. He had been in touch with her through emails and he decided to come visit. He had developed some software which made him very rich. He came with the mindset to help her square out the ranch’s finances. When he came to town, he decided to stop at a bar. He sat next to this hot guy but got so drunk that the guy put him in a motel room. When he woke up, he did not know where he was because it wasn’t the room he had reserved at a different lodging. Then there happened to be a freak snowstorm which he was not prepared for and somehow got stuck in the snow after sliding off the road.

Nash Vigil was like the ranch foreman and was very protective of the ranch owner. He found out that Max Stone was coming and did not like that. He happened to go to a bar and sat next to this good looking guy. They started chatting but the guy got so drunk. He decided to take the guy to a motel and got a room for him so he could sleep it off. The next day, he was driving back to the ranch when a car in front of him didn’t know how to drive in the snow. The car skid off the road. He begrudgingly helped only to find out it was the drunk guy from the night before. He also found out it was Max Stone so an invisible wall went up. He tried his best to avoid Max since the ranch owner invited Max to spend the night because of the snowstorm. That was the start of something. I’m going to stop right there and have you pick up the book and read to find out what happened. Again, it’s a thriller story so you’ll need to find out what! An awesome reading!

I received a free advance copy for review purposes.

Nash decides to go to the local bar for a drink. On arrival he meets New Guy, who is drunk since he hadn’t taken into account the fact that alcohol affects one more quickly at altitude. Nash remains a gentleman and takes him to a nearby motel and puts him to bed. The next day, Max (aka New Guy) is heading out to the Twisted Pine ranch but gets caught in a snowstorm, almost losing his life when he loses control. It turns out that Max is the son of a man whom Nash hates because the father abandoned the owner of the ranch when she was a teenager. After leaving that family, he established a new one with Max’s mother before moving on from them when Max and his identical twin brother, Xavier, were very young. Robin, the ranch owner forces Nash to apologize to Max after he was rude to him the night before. Evidently, the apology was successful since we next see them in Max’s room at the B & B. From there, Nash convinces Max to move back to the ranch for the time he’ll be there. From there, they work their way to a happy ending, but someone shot at Max while he was riding, and they go through some suspense on the way.

As with most of the books in the series, the plot develops in a linear fashion. However, this one contains elements of suspense not found in the others, at least the ones I’ve read. The MCs are cool. Nash is a grumpy one when he is hungry (which is frequently) and Max is mostly a ray of sunshine. There are some funny elements in the story. The book has a relatively small number of secondary characters who for the most part contribute to plot development. There are a few nasty ones, but we don’t see much of them.

I can happily recommend this book to all who enjoy MM romances.

This is another book in the Collier Creek shared world and is an offshoot from The Cooper Springs series since Max is Xavier's twin brother. This is a bit of an age gap and grumpy/sunshine book with a bit of mystery thrown in. Max is at loose ends after selling his software company for millions and decides to travel to Wyoming to meet his half sister, Robin, who his father abandoned just as he did Max and his brother. Nash Vigil has lived at the ranch since he was a pre-teen and is related to Robin thru marriage. He is a bit of a grump and thinks everyone has an angle. He has never met Max but thinks he must be after something. When Nash gets into Collier's Creek, he goes to a bar and not being used to the high altitude and not eating, he ends up quite drunk. Nash goes to the bar and meets a drunk and handsy newcomer and resists temptation and instead leaves him a a hotel. He runs into the newcomer the next day when he is stranded in a snowstorm. Nash is surprised to learn the newcomer is Robin's half brother and figures it is just his luck to be attracted to someone he can't have and doesn't trust. Max slowly wins Nash over and the two are irresistibly attracted to each other. However, it soon seems that someone is trying to kill Max and then his and Robin's father is found dead on the ranch. The danger to Max's life makes each man realize the depth of their feelings for each other. I love Elle Keaton books and her men and this book did not disappoint me. It can be read as a standalone or part of the series.

Mandatory Repairs is part of the Collier’s Creek shared world but it really can be read as a standalone. Fans of Elle Keaton’s Reclaimed Hearts series will enjoy the cameos from a couple of characters but you don’t need to be familiar with that series to read and enjoy Mandatory Repairs.

The story starts out with an enemies-to-lovers vibe but MC Max doesn’t have a clue as to why MC Nash doesn’t like him. Nash rescues Max after he drinks too much but he doesn’t know who he is then. When he finds out Max is the half-brother of his friend, and owner of the Twisted Pine Ranch, he’s not too keen on him. Nash thinks that Max is after the ranch. In reality, Max has come to Collier’s Creek to see the half-sister he’s never met and to help her out of her financial difficulties. He never expected to fall for the handsome cowboy that lives on the ranch.

I loved reading this book. It has all of the trademark elements of an Elle Keaton story: romance, a bit of conflict, and a mystery. The romance has an HEA and most of the mystery is solved but I’m wondering if that thread might continue in other books in the series. It’s no matter if it doesn’t because this story has a very satisfying HEA and a nice epilogue set several months in the future.

I almost forgot to mention that there is a humorous scene involving a discussion about goats and one of my favorite childhood movies: Heidi – the version I love is the one staring Shirley Temple.

MANDATORY REPAIRS is part of the multi-author Collier's Creek series. In this story, we meet Max and Nash. Nash lives and works on Twisted Pines Ranch. Max is the half-brother of the owner of Twisted Pines. They first meet when Max is drunk (beer, lack of food, and high altitude!) and doesn't remember Nash at all. Nash likes Max until he finds out who he is.

Although I enjoyed this story, it felt jerky and uneven with its pace. I would also have liked more character development. I mean, Nash doesn't like Max once he finds out who he is. But what are the exact reasons, because what we get told is rubbish. And then, Robin (the half-sister) tells him to apologise. He goes to the bar, and then they're in bed! This happens on a couple of occasions.

Saying that, I did love the scene in the bookshop, and also when Max is trying to get out of a sticky situation. He kept his head and did what he could, instead of whimpering and playing the poor princess.

I enjoyed this addition to the series and look forward to reading stories set in Collier's Creek.
