Ramesh Pradan (ரமேஷ் பிரேதன்)
(27 October 1964 – 27 September 2025)

Born in Puducherry to Marudhamuthu and Balasundarambal, with roots in Tiruchirappalli, Ramesh Pradhan was a distinguished Tamil writer, critic, and translator. His education took him from local middle and high schools in Puducherry and Trichy, through Kallve College, and onwards to a Diploma in French Linguistics from Alliance Française and a Master’s degree in History at Annamalai University.

Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked in various roles: as a teacher in the Gandhian movement Aseeba, as branch manager at New Century Book House, as archival/documentation staff in Chennai, and as librarian at Auroville Central Library.

In 1993, his literary career began in partnership with Prem; their first publication together was "Pudaikkappatta Prathigalum Ezhuthappatta Manithargalum", released under the joint name Ramesh Prem. Over the years, Ramesh co-authored 21 books with Prem, and later authored several books on his own after the partnership ended.

His output spanned poetry, novels, short stories, plays, and literary criticism. He was celebrated for bringing postmodern sensibilities to Tamil literature—fragmentary narrative, emotional restraint, challenging conventions. His works earned multiple honors including the Kamban Pugazh Literary Award (twice: for poetry and for novel), Sujatha Poetry Award, Kalampudithu Poetry Award, Ki. Ra. Karisal Award, Prabanjan Award, and in 2025, the Vishnupuram Literary Award.

Despite health challenges, he remained committed to writing up until the end. Ramesh Pradhan passed away in Puducherry on 27 September 2025 due to illness. His literary voice continues to be remembered among readers and peers in Tamil literature.
