The Three Sisters is the third and final short story in a gripping tale from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger, "an accomplished pro" (Kirkus Reviews).

When Eloise's granddaughter, twenty-year-old Finley, comes to live with her, Eloise's abilities start to change--things seem to be getting easier. Her load is lighter, and rather than chasing down people she needs, they are coming to her. She teams up with detective Jones Cooper to help a desperate father bring his daughter's killer to justice. Meanwhile, Finley, who is developing gifts of her own, has bigger problems than she's willing to admit. Will Eloise help Finley and others see the difference between justice and revenge, or will things spiral out of control first?

It's nearly 30 years after the tragedy from book 1 and about 16 years after book 2.

Eloise's 20 year old granddaughter, Finlay, is living with her and has the same psychic abilities. I thought this would bring some more excitement to the series, but it didn't end up providing too much of it. I do like how they could bond over it and Eloise helped her understand some things.

All in all, this is a good, quick series that can be binged in one day.

Series notes:
I've just found out that this is a spin off series. We first met Eloise in Fragile, which I read ages ago so obviously I don't recall much about how she was involved in the plot. The detective from that book makes a cameo here. A good idea to read this series in order.

Narration notes:
A well seasoned narrator so A-okay, however Eloise is probably now around 70, so I wish she sounded a little older.

The final part of the trilogy and it didn’t disappoint.

When her granddaughter Finley stays with her, Elouise notices her psychic abilities start to change.

I’ve really enjoyed this series, it’s been a nice introduction to Unger.
It’s certainly made me want to read one of her full length novels!

3.5 The last and my favorite of the three installments of this series. Eloise's grand-daughter is now living with her, she has powers of her own, and Eloise is trying to help her channel what she is seeing and feeling in a constructive matter. Concerns three sisters that were burned as witches in the 1600's and a grieving father in the present.

A good and entertaining series and as Eloise and I share the same views on cell phones, a big thumb up from me.

I loved this series and am sorry that I have no more to read. My thoughts on this third in the trilogy are similar to other readers here, I thought the story and the characters could have been a bit more developed. It felt a bit rushed, as if being the final installment made it somehow less worthy.
I would love to see these characters in an ongoing series of full length books as I think Lisa Unger has a good "handle" on the concept of psychic communication and portrays it really well, without being patronising or degrading in the process.

These books were a pleasure to read, please give us more of this Lisa Unger!

I gave this one 4*s only because I wanted more and felt it had the potential.

A highly recommended 4*s

How sad that it is over! I cannot say it enough, I wish The Hollows series were full length novels, with no end in site! I cannot say enough about these Short Stories.

In The Three Sisters Eloise has her granddaughter Finley living with her. Finley also has the gift, as she eluded to in the first book. What I have enjoyed about the series, and believe it was very smart of Unger, is each book is set years and years later. So we have got to see Eloise grow, along with her family.

I won't give away the premise but as you can probably guess, Eloise is has a few mysteries to solve before the ghosts that are haunting her will find peace.

Lisa Unger is just one of those authors that has never failed, in my opinion.

A special thank you to Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lisa Unger returns for the finale in the gripping and spellbinding, The Whispers Series, with three short captivating novellas. Eloise and her family learns to deal with their special psychic abilities, covering a span of thirty years ending with THE THREE SISTERS.

If you have not read this series, would recommend reading them in order, to learn about the history of Eloise and her struggles, as we anxiously await the upcoming CRAZY LOVE YOU (preview included), coming Feb 10, 2015. Hoping I can get my hands on an ARC as not sure I can wait, as dying to know find out about Priss and Fatboy—patience is not one of my strong virtues.

Whispers #1 THE WHISPERS Eloise Montgomery discovers her amazing gift in the wake of tragedy, an accident taking the lives of her husband and oldest daughter. She and her younger daughter try to move forward, as she learns to deal with this complex gift, using it to help save lost women and girls.

Whispers #2 THE BURNING GIRL Ten years after Eloise discovers psychic abilities, she is a full-fledged working psychic, with a partner and a business. She discovers some disturbing things: secrets about her genealogy that are, perhaps, best left in the past and not all her visitors want to be helped.

Whispers #3 THE THREE SISTERS At the end of The Burning Girl, Eloise discovers her granddaughter, Finley has powers. Presently, twenty-year old Finley comes to live with Eloise. (Much to Eloise’s daughter Amanda’s controlling displeasure).

There is much drama and suspense in Hollows in this fast-paced, action filled e-short story:

FINLEY:Eloise’s granddaughter is now living with her. A pre-med student planning to go on for her doctorate in psychiatry, attending Sacred Heart College, a small private university on the outskirts of Hollows. She is a troubled girl and quite rebellious, with her tattoos, motorcycle, and stubborn streak. Eloise wants to protect her as she realizes her psychic gift can be dangerous, if not controlled, and at the moment, she feels Finley is out of control (she is also quite sassy and witty). Finley likes the motorcycle as a way to drown out all the voices and whispers. However, tight controls do not always work with Finley. Amanda had worked hard to keep Finley away from the Hollows, as well as trying to keep her distance from Eloise’s situation.

THE THREE SISTERS: Sarah, Abigail, and Patience Good- Eloise’s distant relatives on her mother’s side. Each had their own personalities and used their gifts different. They were taught to hide their powers. They were the daughters of the Reverend Good, and they lived in The Hollows in the late 1600s and three witches burned at the stake. How are they connected to the present?

A WOMAN IN BLACK: After seeing a mysterious woman in black appearing in her house, about the same time as Finley’s arrival. Eloise wonders if there is a connection with the woman and the Three Sisters. After seeing their photograph at the historical society, they appear to have a dark and powerful energy, and something is familiar about the woman in black in her house. Are they connected and how?

A DEAD GIRL: Eloise sees a dead girl on her porch - a beautiful girl with a half heart locket. How did she die? She teams up with detective Jones Cooper to help a desperate father bring his daughter’s killer to justice. However, was this a suicide or a murder? Her modeling career, her family, her boyfriend?

THE THREE SISTERS is my favorite of the three; a multi-layered story with gripping narrative, where all three elements fit together for an explosive finale of control, revenge, love, and forgiveness.

No one can control this life and each character learns there are only two choices: to act out of fear, seeking justice or revenue for the wrongs you perceive—or act out of love. Love is wonderful and painful at the same time. The relation to the garden weeds with life, was a beautiful analogy, what is to say that every unwanted thing left to its own devices reveals itself as something valuable?

You root for Eloise, a complex, and unforgettable heroine, as she struggles to manage her psychic abilities and use it to help other women. This series happened to be first of Lisa Unger and looking forward to many more. Impressive writing style (what a vivid imagination), and dying to read CRAZY LOVE YOU!

In CRAZY LOVE YOU, Unger will take us back to The Hollows, a creepy town about 100 miles from New York City, for a tale of love gone awry where we hear more from Ian Paine and his comic series: Fatboy and Priss – the nerdy outcast and his gorgeous red-haired avenger; however, now that he has fallen in love with Megan, and the editor tells him it is time to kill off the characters, will Priss stand for this? Is she real or a manifestation of a young man trying to hide his dark family secrets?

OK, guys take this time to buy and read this extraordinary thriller suspense series, while you get geared up for her next winner! By the way, I also purchased the audiobook, as was traveling, narrated by January LaVoy, delivering an outstanding performance.

I better stop writing as will be accused of writing a review longer than the novella!

"The Three Sisters" is the third and final instalment of an e-novella in three parts, which follows the life of psychic Eloise Montgomery, one of the pivotal characters in the "Jones Cooper" Series ("Fragile" and "Darkness, My Old Friend").

The story once again picks up roughly another ten years after the end of the previous chapter, "The Burning Girl".
Eloise grand-daughter, Finley, is now twenty-years old and living with her; a stern entity, a woman in black, is visiting them.
Ray is no longer around the Hollows and Eloise now works with a local private detective, Jones Cooper, who is investigating the case of a drowned girl.

It is clear from this latest offering that the focus of this series is not the supernatural entities, that Eloise deals with, and their stories. The Burning Girl is mentioned only once in passing, hence if you were looking for answers about her, like I was, on this occasion you will be disappointed - however, don't give up yet!
The purpose of the series seems to be in introducing us to Eloise, to the Hollows, to the Whispers; to make us understand these characters, their gifts - or curse - and their ordeals coming to terms with their situation.

Lisa Unger does this sensitively, slowly putting together the pieces of the puzzle that is the Hollows. However, we are left feeling that there is a lot more to be discovered about the Hollows and its whispers... maybe this novella is not the end, but just the beginning...

This item also contains a preview of Crazy Love You, which will be released after this title. Crazy Love You is set in New York and in the Hollows (just like the Whispers Trilogy), and it will feature Eloise Montgomery and Jones Cooper, along side the two protagonists Ian and Priss.
Will this novel bring us some answers and more insights?
I cannot wait to find out!

Three Sisters by Lisa Unger is the third novella in the Whispers Trilogy.

Twenty plus years have elapsed since the close of the last story. Eloise's granddaughter, Finley, comes to live with her in The Hollows. Finley is also a psychic. They are visited by Three Sisters, who Eloise says are distant relatives. The Three Sisters - Sarah, Abigail, and Patience, were girls that couldn't control their "powers" which led to their death in the 1600s.

The purpose of the series seems to be in introducing us to Eloise, to the Hollows, to the Whispers; to make us understand these characters, their gifts...or curse.

However, we are left feeling that there is a lot more to be discovered about the Hollows and its whispers... maybe this novella is not the end, but just the beginning... We need answers to so many unresolved questions.

The final novella in The Whispers trilogy. The entire trilogy covers a timeframe of about 30 years. I really liked the characters, the writing and the plotlines, but at the end of it, I feel I'm missing a large chunk somewhere. This is set in The Hollows as are several other books by Lisa Unger. I would really love to know if there is some sort of order they should be read in? I just can't work it out. For now, going to move on to Ink and Bone which features the main characters from this trilogy, Eloise and her grand-daughter Finley.
This was another 5-star narration by January LaVoy btw.

The Three Sisters is the final Whispers novella by Lisa Unger and one I enjoyed despite wanting more, more, more. Mysterious apparitions, souls in need and time spent getting to know Finley, Eloise’s granddaughter was fun, and I easily consumed this.

The Three Sisters themselves were fascinating, and affected both Finley and Eloise. I gobbled up any tidbits that were offered about them. It was interesting to see Eloise piece things together about a woman dressed in black stomping about her hallways. Another case involving a  girl who drowned was interesting as well. There are time gaps between books, but we see tremendous growth in the character and see hints of the timeline she shares with detective, Jones Cooper.

While The Three Sisters and the Whispers trilogy left me wishing, they were fully developed books I did find a new author and I am super curious to know if the Burning Girl appears in the series that inspired this trilogy. I will be adding more to my pile.

This was a pretty good read but it was just lacking in something. I didn't really feel like it was a full story even with all three books in this little series. I just wish there was more to it. I wouldn't mind reading another book with these same characters and a different ending.

The Whispers #3

Genre: Fantasy > Paranormal; Mystery, Short Stories, Thriller > Mystery Thriller; Novella, Suspense

Featuring: Adult Grandchildren, 12 Years Later, Psychics

Rating as a movie: PG-13 for adult content and off-camera violence

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⅓👻

My thoughts: I felt there were still some unanswered questions from the previous story. Over this one was better but still just okay.

Recommend to others?: Maybe. This series is far from spectacular but the kickoff is pretty good.

A real nice ending to an interesting series. Knowing when to stop a series is a real gift. Lisa Unger knows how to do that well.
I love her writing style. Not a lot of fluff, so that makes it short, sweet interesting & just easy to keep track of the story, which is poignant with a bit of historical references.

I did the audio book & the performer did a real nice job.

This is the third in this trilogy of novellas about a woman, who after losing her husband and daughter in a horrible car accident, suddenly has psychic abilities. This trilogy follows Eloise from the time she is a woman in her thirties(I think)until she is an old woman with a grown granddaughter named, Finley.

Finley now lives with Eloise and admits to having the same abilities that Eloise has. Her mother, Amanda, is devastated that her daughter has these abilities, and that she has moved to live with her grandmother. Eloise is happy to have the company after so many years of being alone. Except she is rarely alone, because she is visited pretty regularly by ghosts. This time she is being visited by the ghost of a beautiful young woman, and a woman from the 1600’s. The biggest problem seems to be with the lady from the 1600’s, because she’s clearly very unhappy, and stomps around the house. It’s up to Eloise to figure out what the lady wants. It’s also up to her, and a detective named Jones Cooper, to find out what happened to the beautiful young woman. Was it murder or suicide?

I’ve always enjoyed Eloise as a character in all of these novellas, and this time Finley has come into her own as a good character as well. She has spent a good part of her life being haunted by The Three Sisters, as they are known at the historical society of Eloise’s town. Who are The Three Sisters, and is there a relationship to the woman that stomps around Eloise’s house? Just another question to be answered by Eloise.

All three of these novellas are extremely well written, as is everything I have ever read by Ms. Unger. I have enjoyed getting to know Eloise, first through her heartbreak, and then to her helping of so many ghosts along the way to the end of this story.

I would recommend this book to all mystery lovers, particularly those that like a paranormal element. I received this from Net Galley In exchange for a fair and honest review. (PureTextuality.com)

This third and final short story in the Whispers trilogy is a winding down and a passing on of sorts. It's been thirty years since the accident that killed Eloise's husband and older daughter and, for the most part, she has come to terms with the psychic abilities she gained afterwards. Her daughter, Amanda, never reconciled with it and has chosen to maintain a physical and emotional distance but her own daughter, Finley, has much in common with her grandmother.

Finley is on the cusp of understanding her own psychic abilities and this is the impetus for Eloise to learn more about the Three Sisters, ghosts from the 1600's who have been hanging about. Looking into town records, Eloise is reminded that the sisters---Abigail, Sarah and Patience Good---were ancestors of hers on her mother's side but who is the older woman in similar dress that she's been seeing lately and what does she want?

In the midst of her personal search for answers, Eloise is helping a private investigator named Jones Cooper discover what happened to a modern girl named Michelle Asher, recently found dead and currently "visiting" Eloise. At the same time, she's trying to help Finley find her way in this strange world. The Three Sisters have meddled in Finley's life many times before and they may be about to do so again.

Each of the three short stories have been less dramatic in turn but The Three Sisters has been no less engaging because of that. While very different from Lisa Unger's usual work, this is still a good example of her authorial talents.

I am not sure what the purpose of this book was. Designated as the third part of an e-novella, Lisa Unger finishes off a very lackluster installment in the life of psychic sensitive Eloise Montgomery.

There is a very superficial story of three sisters that are somehow related to her and her grand-daughter Finley. The sisters were burned at the stake as witches and their mother is making a ghostly appearance at Eloise’s home in an attempt to warn her to protect Finley since two of the three witch sisters wants to bring evil to her.

All the while, Eloise is stepping over a soggy girl, in spirit form, that has taken up residence on Eloise’s porch. Apparently, this beautiful yet sad girl has committed suicide yet her father wants to blame an ex-lover for his daughter’s death.

This is just a ridiculous novella series that started out well in the first installment and proceeded to deteriorate with the last two. Other than trying to sell her latest book, you see, the end of each novella release is a large advertisement and sample; there was no purpose to the Whisper’s trilogy.

The finale to the Whispers short story trilogy. I enjoyed this story of Eloise and her granddaughter, Finley, who comes to stay with Eloise to learn more about her gift and how to control it. This third installment also provided more information on where the gift comes from and how it has effected Finley. A good trilogy of short stories if the reader doesn't mind a bit of supernatural and this reader definitely does not.

I listened to all 3 of the novellas in this series in on day. They all are good. The second was my least favorite. January LaVoy did a excellent job narrating the books. She adds a lot to the characters. Each book is a chapter in the life of Eloise. I hate to have the last book end. Lisa Unger could still write a few more books in this series. Hope she does. Eloise is a psychic and finds out her grand daughter Finley also has the same abilities. Finley moves in with Eloise and this makes her happy. Eloise is able to see her husband who had been killed along with her daughter. He encourages her to go forward with her life and to have a relationship with someone.

Again January LaVoy gave strength and compassion to third short story of psychic Eloise Montgomery and her experiences with helping others. Now her granddaughter Finley, also psychic, is in college nearby Eloise and lives with her. I hope Ms. Unger eventually fleshes out the lives in these three stories as her writing is evocative and graceful bestowing sorrow and relief alike in the face of tragedies.

These books could be so much better if they were longer. Listened to all 3 in one day. Had to give 2 stars to all 3 of them because they are entirely too short. Great story plot for sure but not executed well at all. :( There is so much more that could have been told in this series. Left way too much out.

At last a story. Unlike the two preceding eBooks in this trilogy, there is a story line instead of the development of characters. Presented in a typical Lisa Unger style, but with a much more concise range of characters. Namely Louise and Finley.

This one fell flat a bit for me. I loved all the characters and the story line over all through the 3 books but I think it would have been better as a full novel rather than 3 short stories and we could have gotten more from it.
