“Light is the foundation of growing it back” The definitive book on hair restoration - science and application! LET THERE BE LIGHT
California author Tamim Hamid earned his degrees in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer engineering, and served with NASA Kennedy Space Center as a scientist, contributing to the success of the Space Shuttle as well as implementing multiple laser and photonic systems. Using his plethora of skills, he focused his attention on a 1965 discovery by Hungarian physician Endre Mester that lasers could grow hair on mice, and subsequently invented and developed Theradome – a wearable regrowth helmet that applies that use of lasers to reduce hair loss and promote hair growth in humans. His mission in writing this book – ‘to provide the most complete resource on laser phototherapy ever created.’ And he has succeeded!
Rarely has a science-based book addressing a quotidian disorder such as hair thinning and loss due to aging and other unwelcome conditions been so readily accessible as GROW IT BACK. Hamid brings Laser PhotoTherapy (LPT) to the public’s attention, presenting all the medical breakthroughs and advancements in laser phototherapy in a manner that is accessible to all readers, creating a book that is as immersive as a novel and as educational as a college course delivered by a master teacher – whose wit and sense of humor enhance the pleasure of learning!
Hamid starts from the basics – light and what it means to us and can do for us: ‘Light is photons. Photons compose subatomic particles, and subatomic particles compose particles, and particles compose matter that composes you and me and everything we see and touch and smell and taste and even eat. So light really is everything. And everything is light…We can achieve (almost) anything we want with light.’ ‘Humankind has always worshiped light and craved the ability to harness its power.’ He offers a wondrous history of light and how it came to be used in healing – making the physics of ‘light’ completely understandable to all readers of all ages. Definitions abound, e.g. LASER – Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. All the scientific background for understanding Laser Phototherapy is here, making all the subsequent facts and aspects of this book accessible: his scholarly conversational tone invites understanding. ‘Cold lasers are incredibly safe and don’t cause any damage because they cannot cause harm.’ ‘For hair rejuvenation, a laser must be properly tuned to a specific wavelength (680 nanometers) to stimulate all parts of the hair follicle…’
Adding to the value of this excellent book, Hamid discusses the psychology of hair loss or thinning, the anatomy and physiology of hair as carefully explained as the physics of light and laser, including an excellent discussion on the causes of hair loss - the many factors rarely considered in both men and women such as hormonal, fungal, heat, stress, vitamin deficiency (especially D and biotin), the role of supplements (curcumin, saw palmetto, quercetin etc.), the advantages and disadvantages of weaves and extensions, scalp tattoos, the benefits and dangers of shampoos and conditioners, solid information about ‘hair growth meds,’ hair transplantations, and more. As he quotes Marie Curie, “The more you understand the reasons for things, the less you fear them.” He admixes his personal history with the development of his LPT Theradome invention, making the science and the visible results comprehensible, adding photographs of before and after Theradome treatments on both men and women (including the author!). He also updates information about the future possibilities of LPT- a fascinating discussion of all the possibilities of LPT uses in aging, cosmetology, brain functions, pain management, adding ‘LPT therapy offers tremendous health and quality-of-life benefits’
At book’s end is one of the finest Glossaries of terms we all need to know, beautifully defined – an adjunct that further establishes this fine book as the definitive volume on hair loss and regrowth, and the way to regrow with Theradome! Very highly recommended

‘Grow It Back: How Laser Phototherapy Stops Hair Loss and Regrows Your Hair’ is an extensive book filled with fantastic information and strategies for slowing hair loss and growing new hair. First thing that is needed is a healthy or healthier scalp, a required component for promoting growth and giving the tools used a better chance to work. Now the key part of this process, developed by Tamim Hamid, a laser expert who used to work for NASA, is Laser Phototherapy, referred to throughout this reference style book as LPT.
Everything is covered in ‘Grow It Back,’ from the nature of hair, the structure and how everyday life, genetics, stress, hormones, sunlight, heat and other factors play a role in hair loss and growth. Men and women have pattern baldness issues and they are explained carefully. His device, called the ‘Theradome’ and fitted with 80 powerful lasers, is a form fitting helmet that promotes hair growth.
One thing I found interesting was that it will only work if one is in the midst of hair loss, this because the scalp is still healthy, but if one’s hair loss has stopped, then the scalp structure will not support new hair growth. If hair transplant surgery was performed, then Hamid recommends LPT to enhance the new growth. Also, treatment with LPT is supplemented shampoos, conditioners, or other compounds like Vitamin D, Saw Palmetto, Curcumin and the like. Each chapter finishes with an ‘Actual Customer Success Story.’ Treatment is a long term process for success to be achieved.
Hamid also goes through the various FDA approved hair loss treatments like Minoxidil, going through how it works and the side effects and prospects for long term success. Hamid’s treatments focus on “restoring hair-cell health.” Future treatments, like Hair Cloning, are also looked at in a book that has a mountain of information worth learning about. There are also many cautionary tales in terms of buying into snake oil products that are a waste of time and money. More research is needed as other benefits, such as cognitive brain functions or repairing damaged skin, appear to be helped by LPT. The Appendix in Grow It Back is indeed impressively massive and detailed.
Grow it Back: How Laser Phototherapy Stops Hair Loss and Regrows Your Hair is an excellent resource for persons trying to halt hair loss, or regrow their hair. It is written by the author, Sayyid Tamim Hamid. In addition to being a former NASA scientist, and laser specialist, Tamim Hadid is the CEO and creator of Theradome, a revolutionary technology that can effectively treat or reduce hair loss. According to Tamim Hamid, the most effective and secure method for treating hair loss or hair regrowth is laser phototherapy (LPT).
In his book, Tamim Hadid describes how laser therapy can promote hair development in both men and women who have experienced hair loss due to intense treatments like chemotherapy, or persons impacted by hair loss illnesses like alopecia areata. This is actually very good news for me, because early hair loss and alopecia areata affects some members of my family. This book may very well be an ultimate game changer.
Additionally, Tamim Hadid uses his book to address the main factors that contribute to hair loss, such as hormones, stress, and heredity. He discusses other hair loss therapies in his writing and provides reasons why some of them aren't successful. He also suggests other solutions, such as shampoos, conditioners, and vitamins that promote successful hair restoration. These additional methods can be used in conjunction with laser treatment. The overall idea is to promote healthy hair growth and a healthy scalp as well. The book doesn't promise you an extremely long, luscious mane in under 24 hours. Rather, it encourages individuals to create a consistent scalp-care regimen (in addition to laser treatment) that promotes vibrant, healthy hair.
I rate this book 5- stars in total. I recommend it to persons who are considering this type of hair treatment for themselves, or for a loved one. All in all, the material in this book is quite simple to understand, because it is presented in a clear and straightforward manner. This book serves as an extensive (and very detailed) resource in battling hair loss. It doesn't make unrealistic promises, but rather, it educates readers about hair loss/hair care solutions that are results-based and backed by research.
It was initially intriguing to learn a book about hair growth was written by a NASA space engineer. My hair has been thinning for a while; therefore this laser phototherapy is a true curiosity – especially as we know about some other hair treatments which don’t work or require one to keep using the product for life. After trying chemicals and entertaining the idea of surgery to re-establish my mane, I wound up letting nature take its course. Grow It Back was more enlightening for me than I had expected. We all want to look our best to help us feel as such and hair is an important part of that. While author Tamim Hamid knows the desire to re-capture one’s hair can make people desperate to try almost anything, he does not treat the reader as if he or she were a mark. Instead, he speaks through his book to one as someone in need of real information from a proverbial straight-shooter with scientific knowledge under his belt. Grow It Back provides a real education into not only what Laser Phototherapy is, but also describes the problems with past treatments from the snake oils to those posing as laser phototherapy’s cousins. Throughout this informative book, Hamid seems to know many of his readers, like myself, may have been spurned before by failed treatments after high expectations. He walks the reader through the science behind laser phototherapy as well as the biological facts about hair loss. Hamid also dispels several myths surrounding hair re-growth and this process. The author is also honest about potential temporary side effects, but is also reassuring not with empty platitudes, but his expert and knowledgeable presentation. Losing one’s hair may seem trite to some, but to many it’s a very serious and sensitive issue – for both men and women. With Grow It Back, Tamim Hamid displays true understanding of that and offers honesty and real information instead of fluff and hyperbole. This book is an important read for anyone looking for real answers to their hair loss at any stage.
If I had to describe "Grow it Back" in one word, it would be “thorough!” NASA scientist Tamim Hamid looks at every step of hair loss and growth in a way that is easy for anyone to understand, and it is backed up by science and real-life examples that create a compelling narrative.
In the first chapter, Tamim discusses the many uses and benefits of light, and how we have been able to harness it using lasers for a multitude of purposes. This includes basic health benefits, medicine, and laser phototherapy (LPT), which has become a key factor in solving hair loss. The next few chapters provide an in-depth look into human hair. From its growth, to the causes of hair loss, to how different products affect our hair, this explains everything you could possibly need to know about hair! Next, he dives into the current popular hair loss treatments, and why they work or don’t work. Finally, he discusses LPT, providing a thorough background of it, dispelling myths, and answering frequent questions. He has implemented LPT into a device to treat hair loss, Theradome, based on his profound knowledge. This book is the perfect introduction to such a product, as it explains not just what it is, but why it works.
Tamim has a way of writing that will get you hooked, even on such a scientific topic. Every page was brimming with knowledge, and his arguments were backed up by scientific studies and facts, all cited in an extensive appendix at the end of the book. He also includes photos alongside the case studies, as well as a handy glossary that keeps the information accessible to the average person. He makes it clear from the beginning of the book that this is not direct medical advice, but is simply to provide education and entertainment, which it succeeds at doing to the highest degree. I would highly recommend "Grow it Back" to anyone suffering from hair loss or even to those who just want a better understanding of their hair!
Laser phototherapy, a seasoned treatment for hair conditions, is demystified in Sayyid Tamim Hamid's Grow It Back: How Laser Phototherapy Stops Hair Loss and Regrows Your Hair. With a rich background in biomedical engineering and lasers, Hamid delves into the intricacies of laser phototherapy (LPT), elucidating its application, benefits, and effects. The book emerges as an authoritative guide, offering insights often obscured from public knowledge.
Hamid initiates the discussion with a pervasive inquiry: Can lasers genuinely restore hair? This foundational question sets the stage for a comprehensive exploration of LPT. The text is structured to address various vital topics, including the nature of hair loss, alternative treatments, the psychology behind hair, and laser phototherapy itself, along with its associated devices and prevailing myths. Particularly enlightening is the discourse on the psychological aspects of hair, prompting readers to appreciate hair's significance and the necessity of nurturing it. The book's strength lies in its accessibility and depth. Hamid's narrative is detailed and digestible, offering clear guidance complemented by a wealth of scientific evidence amassed through years of research. The section debunking common myths about laser phototherapy is notably engaging, clarifying misconceptions with a blend of light-heartedness and factual rigor.
Grow It Back is not solely for those grappling with hair loss or individuals curious about LPT; it is a comprehensive resource for anyone valuing hair health. Hamid persuasively encourages a deeper understanding of laser phototherapy and its potential benefits. This work stands out as both educational and reassuring, a significant contribution for those seeking knowledge and solace in their hair restoration journey.
This author is a biomedical engineer whose own hair stated thinning and wanted to find a way to restore his hair. He gives us a very detailed science lesson on how our bodies need light for all kinds of reasons, such as laser light to regrow hair, how we need natural light just to heal our bodies as they did during 1918 with the big flu outbreak. Red laser light or cold laser light is not harmful to us, it won’t burn our skin and won’t cause scarring. There are many ways to try and hide thinning areas in your scalp, wigs, hair extensions and one I’ve never heard of scalp tattoos. LPT or light phototherapy can work well on people, it just takes months before you see any results. Some cases, such as advanced loss are harder to treat if they can be treated at all. Women are more apt to seek treatment than men are. The usage of the LPT hat is 20 minutes, this seems to be the most useful amount of time to start hair restoration. Hats or helmets coming from another country come with warnings a they don’t regulate the amount of heat and that can be harmful. It is also a must to careful you don’t mix up LED light either LPT because LED light does not promote regrowth. So in conclusion make sure your helmet is made in the states, is not LED but cold laser light and wear for only 20 minutes for several months to get the outcome you desire.
Anyone suffering from hair loss must read this book! It answers all those lingering questions you have about hair loss treatments, surgeries, creams, potions, and gadgets. Incredibly enlightening, easy to read and it is written so that complex physics concepts about how lasers work are easily understood. I don't think I've ever read a book where every chapter has a "wow, I never knew that!" kind of moment. Highly recommend!!
