Stepbrother Series - Vol 1 . . .
Charlotte Scott is shy and never socializes. She spends her time after school in the library secretly writing what she thinks are steamy romance stories. But having no personal knowledge about what “steamy” is, her stories are not accurate and fall flat. When four loud bad-boy college football players come storming into the library while the volunteer is at lunch, she is very uncomfortable. They have not noticed her, so she moves quietly, tugging at her backpack but dropping it loudly on the floor. Everything falls out as one of the players strolls over and picks up her private notebook. The rest come over and read her words aloud, all of them laughing, mocking her, mortifying her. Three of them turn to head for practice while Hunter stays behind. He suggests they try a scene in her book, he says the words about how beautiful she is while he caresses her cheek and holds her. Then he says she couldn’t write the sex scene because she had no idea what to write and could not even look him in the eyes. She tried. But she could not, and so she began to cry. He took a clean towel from his gym bag and wiped her tears. And he apologized and suggested she write someone more like herself. Then he left her there.
The final upset to ruin her day was a text from her mother – she got married the weekend before and wants Charlotte to come to dinner and meet her new step-dad and step-brother. She didn’t even bother to respond.
This is the ongoing story of Charlotte Scott and Hunter Jackson, now step-siblings. They attend the same college. This is only the beginning, but the episodes will keep on coming as we see how their relationship adjusts. Charlotte is so terribly shy (the stutter used in the book to indicate that will drive the reader crazy). And Hunter is bold and confident, his teasing incessant, his smirk ever-present, and he is everything she is not.
