This little book of haiku by Kelly Barnes Sargent is a showcase in the art of subtlety whilst dealing with the joys and wonders, and the sorrows and hardships of life. Preceded by a very personal and enlightening introduction of how Kelly and her twin sister experienced the world and shared their own language which has influenced her life ever since, the poems are oft-times delicate and tender, and at other times raw and running thick with emotion. Kelly is great at picking up the nuances of life, running them through her careful fingers, and placing them back down on the table beneath a new light for the reader to examine again. Here's a few of my favourite poems from the book:
moonlight
through the kitchen window...
sipping warm milk
mourning doves recalling our swan song
without
my consent
pond reflection
