The Untouchable 8 #1

Toxic Obsession

Rate this book
I live in a town that eats, sleeps, and bleeds football.

I hate football, and so does my best friend, Alyssa.

The Untouchable 8 run this town, and when they force Alyssa into their Rally Girl initiation, I made a deal with him to save her, or so I thought. Turns out nothing is as it seemed, and when the football God of this town decided I was his there was no escaping the Untouchable 8.

Update: it tried to be 'Untouchable' so bad in the first couple of chapters, but then it went in a completely different direction, which I'm glad about 💪

Safety warning⚠️⚠️⚠️: there's a few sharing scenes of various intensity, the one results in the heroine giving some OM a blowjob.

This was not a perfect book by any means, but lightyears better than her first one, so i kind of have to compliment her on that 👉👈

I will say though, both her books start out really rushed, feels like the hero already knows the heroine and is obsessed with her BEFORE the start of the book, which is NOT the case. So i was confused a lot at the start whether or not i missed something 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

WOW!

First a summary – then all the important information about what I loved and hated and triggers.

Sadie (virgin, college student) and her crappy BFF, Alyssa, are the only two people in this Texas college town who hate football. Not only that, she hates everything they represent. Jayden De Luca (star quarterback, anti-hero) and his team are known as the Untouchable 8. They run that town (as a Texan, I can vouch that this happens) and even choose Rally Girls at the beginning of each season. A RG is initiated by being gang banged by the team, then used as a sex toy for the rest of the season. Unfortunately for Sadie, not only is her house right next door to the football frat house, but her BFF actually wants to be a RG (unbeknownst to Sadie). When Sadie shows up at the house, she thinks her friend is being raped so she begs Jayden to make his friends release her. Jayden will only agree if Sadie agrees to give him a blowjob. When his friends release Alyssa, she’s super pissed because she was actually auditioning to be a Rally Girl!! Alyssa then dumps Sadie as her BFF. Jayden loved the BJ so much, he now wants Sadie to be his Rally Girl.

Now the story gets crazy. Both Sadie and Jayden have complicated backstories. Sadie is living on her own because her dad killed everyone in their family (except for her mother). Sadie has also blocked out everything that happened the night of the murders. This is mentioned pretty early in the book so I don’t consider it a spoiler. Jayden is He has a drug addict sister who is constantly in rehab, but when she gets out for the third time, he takes her in to help her stay clean.

SEX and Triggers! There’s a lot of sex in this book. Most of it is really HOT. 😛 There is dubcon, noncon, sharing, and very rough sex. There’s also an attempted rape and pseudo cheating.

ISSUES – there is A LOT going on in this book. I wish the author had picked a backstory to focus on instead of having both Jayden and Sadie having complicated issues. There was a twist at the end – which I sort of expected – and I thought it was pretty good. I just wish it had been more explosive. We don’t get to hear about the hero saving the day and I felt like that was a rip off. There’s also an issue with Sadie’s mom that went unresolved. Now that was really a rip off because the story went into the epilogue with no resolution. Sophie also has a side issue, trigger but it only happens once. Why even put it in the story? I’m glad it wasn’t a focal point but it made things feel like the author was just trying to throw crap in there for shock factor. Jayden has a

SADIE I thought she was bad ass for the most part. She wasn’t really a door mat and she kicked his ass most of the time. She also rarely got her feelings hurt and she stood up for herself a majority of the time. She didn’t take shit from anyone. I didn’t hate her. JAYDEN was a real alpha-hole. He didn’t want to admit he was in love with her until the very end. He said a lot of very hurtful things to Sadie and I wanted to kick his ass.

KJ, Ethan, and Carter are the other main Untouchables who are prominent in the book. Pretty sure they will all get their own books. More goes on with her BFF, the Rally Girls, Jayden’s sister, Bri, and the Untouchable 8 – but I don’t want to tell you everything.

Overall…. I really liked this book. I thought it was fun and I loved all the sex. I’m just sad that I have to wait to get the rest of it.

WARNING You should know that this was just released, so the rest of the series isn’t published yet. Had I realized that, I never would have started it. That being said – I def didn’t put this down until I finished reading. I thought it was a short novella – again – I should have checked into that before starting 🤷

There was a cheesiness to the writing that kept pulling me out of the story but I didn’t hate the book overall. It sort of just was. This is another one that I’m pretty sure was a kindle Vella book first. There’s not much to say about it, it’s just one those books that you read to kill time and be entertained but you’re not really expecting anything out of. There were things I liked and didn’t like and the things I didn’t like did sort of outweigh the things I did like. I found myself curling my lip a decent amount while reading but I also wasn’t super invested so it didn’t bother me enough to be a rage read.

Honestly, this one was a bit disappointing for me. It was a big shock to me that it was rated so high. I wasn’t drawn into the story at all. I found myself bored and trying not to skim the pages just to get to the end of the book. I found the bully/possessive/dark trope lacking, the characters brought out no feeling from me at all and I was ready to be done less than half way through.

Jayden and sadie

Ugh this book has me on the edge of my seat and had me actually anxious through the whole book.

Gosh I cried. I gasped. I yelled “I knew it” and other words not appropriate for a review. Haha. It had so many emotions coming though. The book stats off quick it doesn’t give you a backstory or a prologue and truth be told I wasn’t sad about it. I honestly couldn’t put this down.

Jayden and Sadie gave me so many feelings and I was so torn between loving and hating him. Jayden is this ott jock who takes what he wants and doesn’t settle for anything. He knows how to hide his emotions and during some parts you just wanna tell him he’s an idiot lol. Sadie is this feisty girl who is truthfully the kind of girl you want on your side. She cares too much and it’s her biggest downfall. Together they were toxic as heck but it was beautiful.

There were seriously dark parts in this book. I recommend going in blind if you don’t have any triggers but if you do pls read them because there are several. It’s so deliciously dark and I couldn’t get enough. I still wanna know who was in the dark room but hopefully more gets exposed in the rest of the series.

Also I love kjs relationship with both of them and how he was the only one brave enough to be there for Sadie and call Jayden out on his crap. Hope we get his book next cause I need it.

The beginning was a little jumpy and had some holes. Almost like a different writer. But it kept improving as you went along. Very steamy times and a good story. Enjoyed both characters and side characters.

Toxic Obsession is a dark, college, sports romance. DO NOT go in blind, please read Trigger Warnings. This story starts out with no back story and soon thereafter goes in multiple directions. The MMC is a complete jerk who gets slightly better towards the end and he falls first and the FMC is a feisty virgin who stands up for herself but should've walked away a lot sooner than she did. Awesome chemistry with explicit scenes especially, the dark room, a little mafia like, some good friendships, great suspense but would love to know just how a specific someone died, ending was done quickly but you still get a HEA. This book has me interested enough that I would like to read the other 7 Untouchables.
TW: consensual/non-consensual scenes, gangbangs, open door acts, sharing, bully, violence, death of family members, attempted rape, non protected sex and pseudo cheating.

Jayden De Luca is the star quarterback and runs the town and school in Texas along with 7 of his friends, they are called the Untouchable 8. The Rally Girl initiation is taking place at the ballers house and Sadie has just shown up to rescue her best friend, Alyssa.

Sadie Prescott doesn't like people, is a loner and hates football and the players. She's come to the ballers house to save her best friend from being raped and becoming a RG. In return she must give Jay a BJ but it turns out her friend wants to be there.

Jay starts to pursue Sadie because she is a challenge. He always gets what he wants no matter what so, he issues threats and bribes. As it turns out he actually likes Sadie and becomes obsessed with her and names her as his girlfriend but they will be over when the season ends. His future is already planned and Sadie isn't included.

Sadie didn't want any of what her life has become so them having a deadline works for her. But when she finds out that Jayden already has a fiance will they be done before the end of the season and without feelings?

This book is so similar in ways to this authors first book that I copied my first review paragraph from it:

I liked this book. It held my attention. Christian Jaden is a rich, jaded college football player (the football stuff is all nonsense), student/manwhore when the book begins. It doesn't take long for Harper Sadie to capture his attention. The problem is that there isn't a really good reason or transition from MW to monogamous obsessive boyfriend. One minute he is blackmailing her into being his maid "Rally girl" and the next, he is all about her.

This book came so close to the flame of actual sexual assault vs consensual non consent that I think for sure the pages are ash. The first scene Sadie sees at the Players house, regarding the girl being shared seemed super suspect. Sadie is given no chance to consent or agree or have any kind of adult conversation about any of the situations that Jayden extorts her into. When they break into her house and assault her, I really felt like this spilled into traumatizing non consent that was brushed over because eventually she liked it. Later, she seems to make a lot of decisions that are based more on keeping Jayden, especially the dark room, then on her actually wanting to do them.

Finally, the whole rope thing was a big WUT? Just the scene before it she had been handcuffed and assaulted, actually she is handcuffed and blindfolded many times throughout the book and never flinches, but get a rope near her and she has a panic attack --- that is never explained and it took me out of the story every time restraints came up after that.

‘Omigod’ This book needs work

Toxic Obsession review
2.5/5 ⭐️

Tropes:
Virgin FMC
Touch her and ☠️
Sharing

I swear, if I read the word ‘Omigod’ ever again I’m just going to DNF right on the spot.

I started this book because I saw a snip of a steamy scene on a bookstagram post and it was 🥵 HOWEVER, it was such a let down.

The FMC is super annoying and her relationship with her ‘best friend’ was honestly more toxic than her relationship with the ‘football’ star, which was pretty toxic, but at least he was upfront about that 😅

This is dual POV, but with zero indication of when those swaps happen, which was really confusing to me. The writing style was pretty juvenile, to the point where I was constantly forgetting that it was supposed to be a college story.

The MMC is supposed to be a football star, but football is rarely mentioned. So, I definitely wouldn’t call this a football romance.

The author tried to throw plot in and honestly, it was so poorly done that I wish she would’ve just let this book be what it really is: a smut filled disaster.

If you want a spicy read, this is OK, but I’ve definitely read better. Don’t expect anything from the ‘plot’.

Good read!

A little bit spoilers. (Sorry, not too much)I actually like this way more than I expected to. I didn’t really care for her best friend I feel she betrayed her and just wanted to be in the “IN Crowd” the only reason I couldn’t give a five star is because I feel some things were left unfinished well i won’t say unfinished I just wanted to see the way certain events played out. but overall it kept me interested through the story. Another thing was not using protection. Like if they were in a relationship or even discussed it i guess but the fact he slept around and they didn’t discuss protection beforehand was yucky. I like the FMC I thought she wasn’t weak and even though she was trying to do something to help her friend she still didn’t let the MC run over her. I felt bad for the trauma she endured, and even though the MC was a douche at times he still was doing something to give his sister a better life. I will be checking out other books from this author.

A solid 4.5 Stars!!!

The ONLY reason it wasn’t 5 was due to not finding out about who dun it in the dark room…other than that? Pretty awesome read!
I love bully dark romances where choice is a grey area for our Anti-H (obviously not IRL, thus being a romance NOVEL). He has questionable morals and just doesn’t give a huh about consent. Just 😈!
Sadie, our h was no slouch herself! She gave as good as she got and made Jayden fight for every victory he won!
These two ended up being just what the other needed and a god thing too as the story twisted! Some unexpected things happened and a mystery was born.
All in all a good spïcy read that needed a full blown fan going to cool me down 🔥🥵 and there was no shortage of it. The book was chock full of it thank you very much. The ending wrapped up a little suddenly but nothing felt left out. Great read by Michaela Sawyer.

I liked this college bully/dark romance more than I’d anticipated, having been a bit apprehensive when reading the initial toxic ‘rally girl’ scenes.
The good: the spice, the angst, the unconventional way the MCs began their relationship and then how it twisted, turned and evolved into so much more… and that there was even a murder mystery subplot (albeit a little too convoluted for the attention it received).
However, the book had numerous issues, not least the very poor proofreading. I spotted so many errors in grammar, punctuation, duplicate words or poor word choice, etc., and in some parts I was finding a basic mistake on every second page. Argghhh!
Another issue was the hasty ending, with some loose ends still blowing in the wind. It had looked like this was to be the first in a series, but given the publication date and other works this author has since released, that no longer seems likely. It’s a shame, as I think KJ at least deserves his own story to be told.

Couldn't put it down!!!!

This is my second book from this author and she is starting to be one of my favorite... I really like her work, the story are very well written with plenty of detail that you can picture your self being right there in the story.... Sadie's background story is very interested, and to see Jayden looking more into it, involving his self and trying to fix it without her knowing.... I like how they started, but I think she deserves more than that friend, I felt like she should of stop talking to her, she wasn't a good friend.... Other then that the rest of the story was good.... I like this so much that I ended up buying it.... I really hope this author writes a story about Jayden sister and the rest of his friends, I hope this turns into a series....

So confusing. The h gave into everything so easily, it was boring.
Previous to the H, she was a virgin and this “invisible girl” who never goes to parties and isn’t interested in such things, and suddenly she has no problem when his friends are feeling her up. That’s 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

H is “obsessive-possessive” but takes his friends to feel her up and all the shit, just NO. And then I came to see some reviews saying she gives bjs to his friends too so yeah, I don’t wanna see that hence dropping it.
Not for me.

Honestly, I'm not sure which was more toxic: her relationship with her bff, her relationship with him, or her willingness to everything, but still complaining about it.

It was maddeningly confusing at times switching POVs, as it never stated when it had switched and you were left guessing who.

There was an attempt to create a plot, but the reader is left lacking. It's better described as a "smut-filled disaster" as described by another reviewer.

I had jumped at this after seeing a booktok reel, but I won't be continuing the series after reading this.

Good 📖 📕

Love the book sucks that Bri had to sacrifice herself for her brother and sadie to be happy but i get it she wanted them to be happy.
I was shocked to find out Sadie's neighbor was sleeping with her mother omg.
I wonder if alyssa stayed with taylor afterwards
I was hoping there will be a second book to find out if they catch Sadie's mother
And if KJ goes after Bri but afterwards it was a good book

Did I devour the book in one day? Yes. But I hated the sharing scene, WHY WAS IT IN THERE. Why do we always have a virgin FMC and then suddenly she’s being gangbanged and loving it ???? I mean she didn’t get gangbanged but she was definitely shared & then it was just swept under the rug. Just a lot of things going on at once that didn’t seem to make sense.

For those who love a protective, controlling g bad boy this book is for you! It’s very steamy and the innocent heroine isn’t as innocent as she portrays! While she is definitely good but she has some underlying issues herself. To find out what they are read this book!

I really enjoyed this story. The beginning was a bit rough, but the ending more than made up for it. Sadie and Jayden turned out to be the perfect couple, or as close as you can get. I look forward to reading book 2, which will be about Jayden's sister and his best friend, Briella and Kaden 'KJ'.
