Quentin Crisp, born Denis Charles Pratt, was an English writer, artist's model, actor and raconteur known for his memorable and insightful witticisms. He became a gay icon in the 1970s after publication of his memoir, The Naked Civil Servant, brought to the attention of the general public his defiant exhibitionism and longstanding refusal to remain in the closet.
I understand from reading his biographies that this is Mr.Crisp's milieu, or at least it was during his working life.....well, his life in London. But disappointingly, the plot and characters simply don't work. The former is thin and uninteresting and the latter sketchily described by his habit of addressing everyone as Mr and Mrs (or Miss).
"Other people", Quentin Crisp once stated "are a mistake!". He then proves this by writing a novel about other people and it's a mistake.
